Most Effective Rape Preventative: Vomit, Urine Or Hot Lead?

Colorado State Representative Joe Salazar, a Democrat, caused a media stir after suggesting that women shouldn’t carry guns to protect themselves against sexual assault because they are liable to shoot somebody simply because they “feel like [they’re] going to be raped.”

The lawmaker was arguing in favor of State legislation that would ban the carry of concealed firearms in Colorado college campus buildings.

“It’s why we have call boxes. It’s why we have safe zones. That’s why we have the whistles, because you just don’t know who you’re going to be shooting at,” he said. “And you don’t know if you feel like you’re going to be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop… pop a round at somebody.”

After being criticized by conservatives and by women who do not indeed feel they are jittery, scared little things that would fire at random at anything that moved in the dark, Salazar issued an apology.

“We were having a public policy debate on whether or not guns make people safer on campus. I don’t believe they do. That was the point I was trying to make. If anyone thinks I’m not sensitive to the dangers women face, they’re wrong,” he said. “I am a husband and father of two beautiful girls, and I’ve spent the last decade defending women’s rights as a civil rights attorney.”

In the wake of Salazar’s remarks and apology, National Review Online dug up a list of “last resort” tips from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs for young women who are both unarmed and certain they will be raped:

  1. Be realistic about your ability to protect yourself.
  2. Your instinct may be to scream, go ahead! It may startle your attacker and give you an opportunity to run away.
  3. Kick off your shoes if you have time and can’t run in them.
  4. Don’t take time to look back; just get away.
  5. If your life is in danger, passive resistance may be your best defense.
  6. Tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating.
  7. Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.
  8. Yelling, hitting or biting may give you a chance to escape, do it!
  9. Understand that some actions on your part might lead to more harm.
  10. Remember, every emergency situation is different. Only you can decide which action is most appropriate.

The University has since removed the information from its site after being ridiculed online for the “assume the victim’s position” advice with the following message:

Update – February 19, 2013

  • The recent circulation of this web page containing information about rape prevention at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs was taken out of context on popular social media sites.
  • No policy was changed by the university and no advisories were sent to students.
  • This page is not related to the gun control discussions now taking place in the Colorado General Assembly.
  • This page was created in 2006 as supplemental material for women who had completed an internationally recognized Rape Aggression Defense course offered free of charge to UCCS students.
  • The 10 tips were considered last resort options when all other defense methods have been exhausted.
  • This site was intended as a reminder for graduates of the RAD program, an intensive self defense program, and part of a larger discussion of last-resort tactics.
  • As a response to recent interest in the page, the Department of Public Safety has updated this page to provide additional context and information about crime prevention and the opportunity to enroll in the RAD class.

According to the FBI’s statistics, there were an estimated 83,425 forcible rapes reported to law enforcement in 2011. Females age 16 to 24 have the highest likelihood of becoming the victim of rape — two to three times higher. And the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence reports only 14,675 people wounded by accidental shootings in the same year.

The FBI does not specify the number of rapes where the victim was subsequently murdered, but Brady contends that a little more than 600 accidental shootings were fatal.

Rape is a nasty, despicable and depraved act carried out by predatory individuals who have an obvious disregard for consequence. Teaching people to be better victims, many people would argue, is far less effective than being properly trained to carry and defend oneself with a firearm.

Where is the media outrage over such a dstatement? Oh, thats right a Democrat said it so it is ok.

    • http://yahoo bob peters

maybe a stray bullet will find that creep.

      • Hedgehog

Bob; why does it have to be a “stray” bullet? Anyone who advocates compromising the 2nd amendment to facilitate rape deserves better than a “stray”.

    • eddie47d

Shows you how little you know Buster. Its been in the paper and on the telly for the last couple of days. Maybe you should come out of the basement once in awhile so you can see and hear what is going on in the world! He apologized immediately if someone misinterpreted what he said and didn’t want women to overreact to any man walking down the street or in the school corridors. You know using common sense in observing those around you.

      • Buster the Anatolian

It might have made the news oin Colorado but it has not made it nationwide on the MSM that I am aware of. He did NOT appologize immediately he only did it after he was called out on his statement bu others.

      • Chester

Buster, actually, that comment DID make MSM, at least here in Missouri. NBC news, no less, carried that bit. Now, if YOU didn’t see or hear about it, that is on you.

      • Carol J, California

I didn’t see it here in Calif., but what can you expect. And since NBC is the only channel I can get right now that is what I was watching. They locals can pick and choose what they air.
As for the advice to vomit, it sure worked for me the one time I was threatened with rape.

People, please go to the link I provide and sign the petition to Congress to investigate of the Criminal-in-chief’s use of forged IDs. 35,648 Americans already signed it. Clock is ticking. Act now! Please pass it on to all your e-mail contacts. Thanks.

P.S. The Supreme Court of the United States does not state whether the Orly Taitz case was granted or denied, no answer yet, NO TREASON YET by the justices of the Supreme Court. So let’s pray for their WISDOM.

Go to the Orly’s website and look for her Reports.

The last thing a rapist should see is, “the muzzle flash”.

    • Vicki

Agreed. This young lady states the case rather clearly.

    • ibcamn

      Bravo Jim,bravo….well said,…oh man,you should put that on a t-shirt!

    • alanleemillard

Rape doesn’t equate to murder, idiot! And who is to say he wasn’t someone she just wants to kill?

      • JimH

Alan, and who’s to say your not a rapist, who just doesn’t want to get shot?
Smile, look into the barrel and wait for the flash.
It seems that the next time you say “idiot” a mirror should be handy.

  • John

I’ve heard that if you bite the upper lip it can send him into shock.

    • ibcamn

Wow,never heard that one,i can guess it would sting like hell but put you into shock!
i gotta tell my lady not to bite real hard(there anyways),i would kinda like to be alert for the finish!

  • TheTruthHurts

Deplorable… ‘Safe zones’….?! Really? Is that an area where a rapist can’t rape? And those phones…. They just jump off the box into the hand of a woman being raped in case the attacker happens to drag her away…. ‘Tell the attacker you’re mensing or have a disease’? They probably wouldn’t care.

I would be willing to be a victim of a poorly placed shot if it meant preventing a rape or assault

  • Warrior

I wonder if the university has a policy on male sodomy. I’ll bet that will be just as enlightening.

  • jan

This guy is a complent ass.

  • rendarsmith

You can apply Salazar’s argument to just about anything. No one should carry guns then, because we might accidentally shoot someone who asks what time it is thinking we are being mugged. Police shouldn’t carry guns then because they may mistake someone asking for directions as someone who is about to assault them. Secret Service shouldn’t carry guns, because they mistake someone who wants Obama’s autograph as someone trying to assassinate him. The list goes on….

  • dan

Too late,’Saladzar’….your stupidity is already viral….blow your rape whistle out your other end
dimwitted politicians ….always ready to throw someone under a bus for their political correctness

  • Howard C

Let them make it illegal to carry a gun on campus!! Who cares… carry a gun anyway. It is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6! I am always armed I carry my 4.25″ Spyderco(knife) and a set of Knuckledusters. Armed doesn’t mean just guns.

  • Jeff

If any college allowed concealed carry weapon permit (CCWP) holders to carry on campus, it would be a powerful deterrent even if only a few availed themselves of the right.

The though of proving what law abiding gun owners claim is the very reason that campuses ban guns in the hands of CCWP holders. It would prove that all the gun control rhetoric is malarkey.

And by the way, guys, exercise some situational awareness of your own. If you see a female student in jeopardy; intervene and help her. The scumbags are relying on bystanders just walking by. Disappoint the hell out of them.

  • Dale Patterson

This old Marine says, pack a gun ladies and if you are in a dangerous situation, such as rape, shoot’em in a knee. If you hit’em they won’t be interested in raping you any more, and if you miss they will certainly think twice or put more effort into the attempt. And if they try harder then you’ll know they mean business and want you to try harder too. Just don’t listen to some dumb-ass politician that isn’t worried about getting raped because if that dumb-ass politician was worried about being raped they would be toting a full auto assault rifle not some little revolver.

  • Xmil-man

This for all you ladies out there. If per chance you do get attached and he has you down on the ground and he has his pants down just reach up between his legs if you can find his ball sack and the loose skin, use tour finger nails, gab hard and pull straight down they should rip loose with a hard jerk. My ex-wife did this to a guy that was trying to rape her,he went to the hospital and then to jail, that is after avery painful surgery. Works on all guys big or small. And just to add insult to injury she knee’d him there also!!

  • alanleemillard

It is a valid point brought up as to defend women carrying guns as protection or an excuse for women to get away with murder. I hate this line of thinking to even begin with due to its discriminatory mindset in the beginning. Rape on college campuses is very low, but as many in the know have covered before pertaining to this issue, it is a subject that is kept alive to continue the rape paranoia for women’s programs and other feminist political power/status.

  • Franklyn Molina

It seems clear to me, that not only is Joe Salazar anti-second amendment, he’s also anti-woman.

    • alanleemillard

No, he’s rationally-minded and not anti-male. Perhaps we should arm men who are sexually misled by women so they have an excuse to shoot them.

And yet I did see it on NBC, But then we do get different channels. You get the Sacramento one while I get the one here in the Bay Area. I also heard it on FoxNews. As far as the barfing goes, all I can say is WTG.
