  • The plot thickens: The Guardian is publishing in full two documents submitted to the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (known as the Fisa court), signed by Attorney General Eric Holder and stamped 29 July 2009. They detail the procedures the NSA is required to follow to target “non-US persons” under its foreign intelligence powers and what the agency does to minimize data collected on US citizens and residents in the course of that surveillance.   • Analyzing the White House Press Secretary: A Yahoo News analysis of the 444 briefings that Jay Carney has held since becoming White House press secretary has identified 13 distinct strains in the way he dodges a reporter’s question. The White House press secretary has dodged a question at least 9,486 times. Source: Yahoo News   

 

  • Voting by foot: Less than a week after Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed gun restrictions into law in April, gun manufacturer PTR Industries said it intended to leave the state to avoid the damage it expected to be inflicted on its business. The rifle manufacturer kept its promise Wednesday, announcing it will move to Aynor, S.C. Source: CBS Charlotte 

 

  • Viva la Nullification!: An Associated Press analysis found that about four-fifths of the states now have enacted local laws that directly reject or ignore federal laws on marijuana use, gun control, health insurance requirements and identification standards for driver’s licenses.   • Does Chelsea Clinton wish she were never born?: From the stage at the recent Women Deliver conference, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s daughter Chelsea lamented that her much-admired maternal grandmother was the child of unwed teenage parents who “did not have access to services that are so crucial that Planned Parenthood helps provide.” Source: Life News
