MONTREAL, Aug. 7 (UPI) — Ville Marie Tunnel in Montreal was reopened to traffic Saturday after being shutdown for almost a week, officials say.

The tunnel reopened after a 27.5 ton section of the roof of the eastbound side collapsed, barely missing traffic, The (Montreal) Gazette reported. The 50-foot slab, meant to keep sunlight from blinding drivers, fell July 31.

Construction workers told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. that vibrations generated while work was being done may have caused the piece to fall.
