Missiles Attack On U.S.-run Bagram Airfield In Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 14 (UPI) — Taliban militants fired at least a dozen missiles on the U.S. airfield in Bagram, Afghanistan, local authorities said.

Bagram’s district chief, Abdul Shakoor Qadusi, confirmed the report of the missiles fired on the base Sunday, noting there are no reports on the casualties or what damage was caused, Khaama Press reported Monday.

Qadusi said militants fired the 12 missiles from mountainous regions and no suspect has been arrested so far.

Contradicting Qadusi’s report, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed the fighters fired 20 missiles on the airfield, inflicting heavy casualties, Khaama said.

NATO’s International Security Assistance Force denied the Taliban claims of casualties on the air base.

Mujahid said the missiles landed in residential areas.

The Taliban spokesman also said U.S. war planes carried out airstrikes after the missile attack, but no Taliban fighters were killed.
