I have seen this clip before. It is one of the clearest, most logical and historically correct statements ever made. Friedman (God rest his soul) was one of those who could cut through the fog and subterfuge of liberal propaganda without resorting to much more than common sense, and in using easily understandable terms.

    • Vigilant

What I find amusing is that it’s been over 24 hours since this article was posted, and not one liberal has left his lair to challenge Dr. Friedman’s remarks.

C’mon jopa, denniso, Eric Bischoff, Rob Smith, absolutely amazed, et. al……cat got your tongue?

  • Birdog9999

why is Personal Liberty Digest running an advertisment for Obama Biden???

    • Vigilant

      Capitalism.

Doesn’t bother me if Obama wants to waste money running an ad on this site.

    • Millard Huff

IT’S CALLED MONEY THEY GET PAYED TO RUN ADDS FOR obama EVEN IF THEY DON’T LIKE HIM.IN OTHER WORDS MONEY TALKS BULLSH*T WALKS GET IT.

  • Bruce King

Milton Friedman’s books & TV shows should be manditory for all high school students to provide the other side to the liberal view they are getting today. He stood toe to toe with liberal leftists and calmly cut them off at the knees with logical answers and questions they could not even begin to answer. He once explained that his mother’s job in a sweat shop was not negatve but was a toe hold for her when she came to this country and the start she needed to move up from there. She did not look for a hand out or agency to tell her she was being taken advantage of by the business world but was thankful for the opportunity. He was truely a gentelman and a giant who could define any economic question and lay out the understanding which could only lead to one conclusion, the correct one. We miss you Milton.

I agree 100% Bruce. Why don’t we teach this common sense and logic and theory of economics to the younger generation – high school and college. Where is this generation’s Freedman? Oh that we had more speakers like him. Cry for the losses for our grandchildren.

      • Gordon

Fearfully I say Deborah, the answer to your question is very simple. The reason we don’t teach this common sense is because we have allowed the government to take the responsibility of education away from us. We need to step up and take back not only the educational system and its contents, but the country too.

I agree with you 100% too, but you wont get govt run schools showing any of Milton Freidman logical debates. He was interviwed in Australia several times during the 1970′s and 80′s if im getting my dates correct. When did he die?

      • Vigilant

        Milton Friedman (July 31, 1912 – November 16, 2006)

  • dan

wow…such gentle ,logical reasoning . Where would my life have gone had I been exposed to that type of teaching in my youth…..

Kudo’s to the previous comments! I had the honor of meeting Milton Friedman in person
many years ago, when he made a speech regarding our economic system and Capitalism.
After listening to his presentation, which he presented as somewhat of a “giant”, and as most of us know he was a ” giant” in his theory, but small in stature. I certainly agree that his ecomomic theory and it’s compliment to Capitalism should certainly be at a minimum required reading and study for today’s students. The students today are not taught or instilled with any kind of work ethic, but yet an expectation of I’m owed this and that, simply because I am an American. Anything accomplished and acquired in this world means nothing unless some effort is put forth for it. That is simply the reason Socialism and related systems never succeed, because the human mind and desire is to excell in something. There is a desire in all of us, all be it difficult in some cultures to uncover it, to leave a positive legacy of something whenever they leave this world. What positive thing has ever been left as a result of Socialism!!! Then in closing, answer the same question on the many legacies of Capitalism!!!

Once again, Donahue proves, without a scintilla of doubt, that liberals are not only stupid, they lack any historical erudition and there may well be some “wiring problem” in their cerebral cortexes. I have never had a conversation with a true liberal that doesn’t remind me that I’m talking to a juvenile, and which ultimately doesn’t end up with a tsunami of vitriol aimed at me. Although the latter may be deserved, because, after all, I would have just proven the above points to a possessor of these flaws.

  • http://LIbertyDigest Paul

Donahue has an IQ of a flea. He has also matched his “wits” with William Buckely. Capitalism took this idiot (Donahue)with no talent and absolutely no reasonable common sense and made him rich. He doesn’t even see the irony of his attacks on capitalism which he benefits.

    • Deborah

Thank you Paul; It always amazes and boggles the mind how the liberals blame everyone else for what they are and do and cannot see that THEY ARE DOING exactly what they are finding fault with- the bigotry, intolerance, the anti-government rhetoric, the racial agendas and attitudes, taking instead of creating or giving- and taking no responsibility for selves. How can you judge me for doing what you are doing?

    • Ken Trefaller

Donahue interviewed Ayn Rand and was like a fish out of water. He was clueless.

  • Fred Meyer

Friedman was a giant. His arguments are simple and concise which certainly are a requirement to help Liberals like Donahue understand that their thought processes are hopeless. Clearly the vitriol that spews out when they have no arguments left to justify their positions is standard procedure. Yes, every college student, Union Member & Teacher should read Friedman’s writing.

  • s c

If you feel inclined to see Friedman as an economics giant, I can live with that. However, if you want an even deeper understanding of that which Big Government hates and is trying to destroy [a health, vibrant economy and economic FREEDOM], read Murray Rothbard and Ludwig von Mises.
Rothbard is easy to read. Ludwig can be a difficult read, but he crushes socialistic and communistic ‘economics’ in a step-by-step approach. There is NO idea that Marx or Lenin ever produced that can’t be defeated and utterly crushed via Ludwig von Mises.
When you do some reading and you see what I mean, remember that these writers will NEVER have a place in American public education. That alone proves that public education is a government scam that produces non-thinkers and costs Americans billions and trillions in wasted money and resources.
Get your kids OUT of those damned Uncle Scam schools!

    • Jon

Like wise the works of John Lock and Adam Smith, still valid to as ever, as true logic always is.

  • Tom Browder

Note that, in the same vein as Professor Friedman, Professor Walter Williams continues to make Econ 101 easy for anyone who reads his columns.

  • jdangiel

The worst cases of “Haves” at the top and grinding poverty underneath haven’t been in free countries with free markets. They’ve been in third world dictatorships, so Friedman is on the money, and old Phil is operating in an ideological fog that has never been penetrated by the light of truth or facts.

    • GG

It takes a brain to understand the simplistic beauty of capitalism and free markets. People like Donahue are more interested in being praised for empathy, rather than logic. Liberals/leftists can’t hold a candle to the facts that are so evident with respect to failed socialistic policies…just look around the world…misery, poverty, disease, famine, civil wars…you don’t experience those conditions (en mass) in countries with free market enterprises. Socialism is dangerous and deadly to any society that looks to thrive on its own merits. That’s why Obama must be defeated because that’s exactly what he espouses.

      • Brian

Don’t forget Communism GG, Socialism is the “sister” if you will of Communism, and once Socialism is introduced, Communism is sure to follow on a far bigger scale. it is truly brilliant people like Mr Friedman that can step up against liberals with ACTUAL truths and facts rather than cooking up phoney ones just to make something sound official. Unfortunately the Liberals candy coat everything by saying they want to “give” everyone everything by taking away what was worked for by others. So simple it is, yet far too difficult to attain in the liberal mind thhis concept of common sense

  • Ken Trefaller

Freidman nails it. Where are the lib economists? Name one liberal program that has ever worked, and we want to turn over our medical program to govt that has failed at everything it has tried in the last 60 years.

  • Ken Trefaller

Public education has failed in this country. Privatize and issue scholarships to families that can’t afford the tuition. If we can go to the moon in ten years we cn figure this out.

  • Ken Trefaller

A is A . We will always have drugs. Do you want it with or without crime? Without crime and dispense them through doctors and the problems caused from free drugs can be addressed with the billions we will save on the war vs drugs

  • GG

Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams: GIANTS among fleas! Can you imagine sitting at the feet of these men and absorbing the mass intelligence that they would impart to you? Dr. Friedman has departed this world, but his awesome wisdom and clarity of economic issues will NEVER die. Those of us who “Get It” have an obligation of passing this information on to our children so that there is no confusion about the greatness of capitalism and the unique, successful experience we call the United States of America!

  • GG

Not only did Donahue sound foolish in this video, he LOOKS foolish! Liberals kill me with that open-mouthed “I’m so enthralled” expression, yet they don’t learn a damn thing. Please!

  • mdbonjr

I’m speechless! This is absolutely one of the best defenses of capitalism I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing.
