Memorial Day Message

May 31, 2010 by

Memorial Day Message

Today is the day we salute the veterans who laid their lives on the line and gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country—our country: The United States of America.

Memorial Day actually began in May, 1865, when newly freed slaves in Charleston, S.C., exhumed the bodies of Union soldiers from a mass grave at the Washington Race Course (today the location of Hampton Park) and gave them individual graves.

The following year, and each year thereafter on May 5, a Decoration Day observance was held in Waterloo, N.Y. To commemorate the occasion the graves of fallen soldiers were decorated with flags and flowers in cities and towns and battlefield graveyards across the nation.

In 1882 the alternative name of Memorial Day was used, though it did not become commonly used until Federal law declared the day in 1967. In 1968 the Uniform Holidays Bill set the date as the last Monday in May rather than the more traditional day of celebration, May 30.

Personal Liberty Digest is a site that promotes discussion from all sides of the spectrum on a variety of topics. Unfortunately, some of the discussions devolve from rational debate to name-calling exercises in futility.

Let’s set aside our partisan ideas and ideologies today and recognize those who have sacrificed for us. Remember too, their families, who gave their loved ones on the altar of freedom.

And don’t forget that we currently have members of our military fighting shooting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, patrolling the seas, standing at attention on the Korean Peninsula, guarding our Southern border and battling an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. There are others at bases around the world representing America’s interests.

Regardless of whether you support the wars in those places, the wars fought previously or the policies that require us to have troops stationed around the world, we must leave politics aside this day and remember those who chose to go where their Commander-In-Chief sent them, and who did all they could to see the mission through.

Many Americans receive the day off, and it’s not unusual for them to spend the day at picnics, barbecues, the lake or beach. As you enjoy this holiday, don’t forget the reason behind it.

Remember those who fell on the battlefields at Lexington, Concord and Valley Forge; at Ft. Meigs, Ft. George and Baltimore; at El Paso, Cerra Gordo and Mexico City; at Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and the Wilderness; at San Juan Hill, Santiago de Cuba and Silva Heights; at Rheims, the Marne and Argonne; at Pearl Harbor, North Africa, Normandy, Guadalcanal, Ardennes and Midway; at Inchon, Chosin and Seoul; at Saigon, Hue, Hamburger Hill and An Loc; at Kuwait City, and Southern Iraq; at Mazar-e-sharif, southeastern Afghanistan, Qandahar, Marjah and Pashmul; at Nasiriya, Baghdad and Al-Anbar; and all the battlefields in between.

Thank You to those who gave it all. And to all veterans who have served or are currently serving, Thank You and God Bless!

To all those who gave their lives as a sacrifice on the alter of freedom…there is no means by which I can measure the depth of my thanks except to earn every day what you gave all of us. I thank God for all our service People and for their families amd for young people like Claire, Dania and my others in the chicken Coop. I
am proud of my Brother who served in the U.S. Navy, in early days of radar. the youngest was in the U.S. Army de-activating mines and booby traps to protect our service people. And especially proud of my youngest uncle who was also Navy but doing an honorable job furnishing the Navy Hospital Radiation therapy unit at Bethesda Mayland, and a nephew Hoyt who worked also Bethesda Librarian over
Medics. I can’t tell them enough how grateful and proud we are of EVERY ONE, May God Bless everyone. We are thankful for our Service people; always on watch. God Bless our Services who Keep us strong

God grant that our leaders will someday deserve to be called leaders, learn what it really means to sacrifice, and know when it’s time to put our military heroes in harm’s way and when it’s time to bring them home.

Please do all keep in mind that they gave all so we could have this Freedom we enjoy today.

Bless then all for their service, May God let them all rest in peace.

God Bless our Troops in uniform and please keep them safe from harm.

I couldn’t have said it better.

We remember those who gave all, so we can comprehend the TRUE COST of the freedoms we take for granted (and frequently distort the intent). If we forget the COST, we loose the VALUE. We are truely blessed to have some who are willing to pay this cost so others can benefit. There is no, more selfless act. Continue to instill that ideal, because there are many who seek to take it away. The fight IS worth the cost. May we untimately find a way to reduce this expensive payment AND KEEP our precious liberties! Heaven help us if our leaders take away these reminders, in order to subjegate us, for we appear to be headed in that direction.

Thank you for the kind words,God bless all of you.I am a disabled vet,and I would love nothing more than to get back on the battlefield with my friends who are in harms way.Your thoughts and prayers stay with us everywhere we go,without knowing that we are loved as much as we are and are supported the way we are life would be unbearable.

Today,I would like to salute those who support the troops, those who go out of their way to say a kind word about us,those who comfort the families who have lost loved ones.Today I SALUTE YOU.Without you guys, our lives would be beyond unbearable.God bless each and every one of you.

I am truly grateful for all the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines & Airmen who served their country–AMERICA–from the 1770′s on up into 2010… And for all those WILL SERVE our great nation in the future to keep her going. Many have given their lives for us so that we could be FREE. Ironically, many died in battle so that others could be free to burn the flag in protest because they disagreed with their government’s policies at the time. While I do NOT agree with flag burning–which is tantamount to burning the symbol of our FREEDOM–at least we have a country where descent is because we have FREE SPEECH. Any other country, flag burners would be in jail. They should stop and think about that today & be grateful they have America. To see the freedom they do have & be grateful. Where on Earth can they be so free? I will leave you with my favorite Founding Fathers quote:

“…Rightful Liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the EQUAL RIGHTS of others. I do not add ‘within the limits of the Law’ because Law is often but a Tyrant’s will and always so when it violates the rights of the individual!”
    –Thomas Jefferson

Yes, it’s Individual Rights they fought for…AMERICA is Land of the Free BECAUSE of the BRAVE….Without our military we would NOT be a free America. Other nations would be free to over-run us and conquer us. War has been happening since the world began. That is why we must stand guard. That is the purpose of our military: to SERVE & PROTECT us.

My Dad was a WW2 Marine & my Mom an Army Nurse, so I am especially proud that they served their country.

Thank you, to my cousin (David Easley, USMC) for his ultimate sacrifice in Viet Nam…and to my cousin (Linda, USN and USA) for her service, to my extended [military] family members for their enduring personal sacrificies so that we may enjoy freedoms unmatched on this planet.

Today is a somber, yet joyous day to be thankful for all that we have and for our loved ones. I’m so glad and so grateful to be an American first and a Unites States Veteran. I’m also appreciative of the prayers, [kind] words and emotional support for our military…of many on this site. Thank you all, very much!

Thank you for your very kind and supportive comments! I certainly do not regret my time in service…even with the occasional mean-spirited commentator. Hey there LT,

Things are pretty good; hope things are good with you and your family and that you had a nice memorial day.

Hope the big kids (overseas) are safe and doing well too. I know you miss them and they must have been on your mind this Memorial Day observance.

It’s good to find your posts here as well. I don’t know about the temps in your area, but we’re in the 90 degree (hi) range all this week and up to 97/98 by the upcoming weekend. Whewww…’s warm (but thankfully not humid like back home…lol)…and quite cool compared to many of our troops in the “real” desert.

Fed Up – thanks – we did ok. Got the son-in-law leaving Afghanistan the 4th and back in this country about the 7th or 8th – He’ll take a couple weeks to reorganize than will come and collect the kids and dogs and we will rest up for a bit!

  • Victor L Barney

Bob, I love your reports and you’re the best out there! I’m retired(forced by layoff into early retirement) and now living on a fixed income(I really always have, I guess). I’m not hurting, because I have a great retirement plan! In fact, I am currently living quite well, except for previous debt before I retired, which I now regret! However, I’m now very concerned about the self-proclaimed “fundamental transformation” (code word for Marxism that Glenn Beck now has deductively proven) occurring in our Republic, which Karl Marx himself has called anti-messiah(Marxism)! I must also comment that America is the real Israel(Joseph’s seed, NOT Judah) and now has appointed a “foreigner”(non-Israelite)(not Judah, given grace, not race(irony?) over themselves for the very first time in their history; Again, a non-Israelite(Deuteronomy 17:15), not to mention a Marxist, or anti-messiah, if you believe the Bible and Karl Marx! PS: The Bible is “only” to be interpreted through scientific deduction, not induction(i.e., what you think that it says does not count: 2 Peter 1:20)! Besides, Hebrew, not Greek or even Latin is the only Spiritually Inspired Language(Daniel 5) and; Yahweh, as does his only spiritually begotten son, Yahshua, state that they will teach us to speak Hebrew again(Zeph 3:9)! Did you even know that in 1522, the Roman Catholic Pope, Leo the 10th, I believe, asked Petrus Galatinus,(look his name up on your search engine and deductively prove it) to change the name of the Hebrew(he said Jewish)Messiah to a name the honors “Zues,” after first asking him to find the father’s name! Petrus gives him first the name “Jehovah”(Now the Roman Catholic Church even acknowledges was a mistranslation and should have been YHWH or Yahweh) and yet ignore “Jesus” given to honor the highest Greek deity, Zues; a direct violation of the 10 Commandments, if they even matter to you, and it better because it’s true anyway! Another question? Why do all “Christians” ACCEPT the savior’s name as “Jesus,” even though it was a Roman Catholic Church(RCC)Invention by a guy supposedly getting the father’s name wrong in the first place? Sounds to me that the RCC is correct by acknowledging that the daughters that came out of her are actually hers and false! There are not even “J’s” in Hebrew! Wake-up America! Yahshua soon will be sending his two-witnesses before he can return to punish the true Israel for 3 1/2 years and this elected “non-Israelite” and self-proclaimed “Marxists”(anti-messiah) will not be able to STOP this punishment until the 3 1/2 years are over, or fire will come out of the sky to kill anybody trying to stop their assigned duty to punish Israel! Please pray for those who are apt to follow this anti-messiah into death! Think about it! Again, read the Bible only through deduction, not induction and prove all things that way! I believe that I have identified the end time Eliyah that must come before the Day of Yahweh) in Elder Gary Miller(;) Go there and remember to prove all things through scientific deduction only!(Just for your extra information that will SAVE your lives in times soon to be revealed!) Watch!

May we all celebrate their lives, their service to God and country, and their devotion to their families. May we all try to exemplify their spirit and honor and always strive to live up to their sacrifices past and present. May we all remain vigilent of our fragile freedoms and the greatness of the United States of America. God Bless America…The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave!

  • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Randy

The best celebration we can give for the memory of our fallen heroes on this Memorial Day is to take back the country they died for by removing all the socialistic usurpers that are changing us to dependency on the government and subverting the independent nature of all Americans. This we were warned about by the founding fathers in all their papers written about the reasoning behind their formation of this great nation and its laws and Constitution, which for some reason are no longer taught in our schools. This is truly a shame, for all federal Senators, Representatives, Judges, the President, most high offices in our government as well as everyone that serves in any branch of our military must take an oath to the Constitution, which most know nothing about, as proven mostly by the laws that are being passed in the U.S. Congress. Mean while the Supreme Court justices say nothing. If you really want to vindicate the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes, then you should vow to get rid of these usurpers who are mostly Democrats with a few Republicans and bring back the true Indepedence that this country stood for and is celebrated by the honoring of these heroes on this Memorial Day and on the 4th of July. Let us honor all Americans and change this country back to what it originally and truly stands for, Independence. No more Pelosi, Reid and Obama change to socialism.

AMEN! For all the comments above! I love America! And I thank and appreciate what the men and women of our military have done for me so that I may live in the country! Every time I see a person in uniform I stop them and tell them “Thank you for what you do for me”. It is simple, but greatly appreciated by the one I stop and tell. It also makes them walk a little taller as they walk off. I also remember the men and women who were willing to lose all at the start of this country, wish we had more men and women at this time in history that were that committed! Happy Memorial Day to all, and I bow my head and say “Eternally Grateful, and Thanks, Amen!”

You right; it’s a wonderful thing to let our service members know how much we appreciate and support them. I purchased some items at Home Depot recently, and while there and very nice lady thanked me for my service (I’m retired, so I was not in uniform) when I showed my ID card for 10% off my purchases. Yes, the discount was appreciated…however her thanks is valued even more. Thanks for your comments and the reminder.

Today is also Clint Eastwood’s 80th birthday! I always thought of him as my “father figure” since my dad passed at an early age. My thanks go out to all the Veterans today, and always.

    • Save America Susie

I’ve always loved Clint Eastwood, and John Wayne, and Jimmy Stewart, etc. and all the men & women of the Hollywood who supported our Armed Forces and the American Way. They are like America’s cheerleaders to keep us inspired to never give up on her. Never be discouraged, no matter what men may say. Despite what many think, all of Hollywood is not anti-military. There is a long list of Actors who are for the Conservative cause. You just have to do an internet search on them. Many are top box office actors such as Harrison Ford and Tom Selleck.

      • JeffH

Save America Susie, true American icons, each and every one.

  • Dr. Mabuse

To be sure, the sacrifice offfered by the men and women of the Armed Services (both past and present) is worthy of high praise. Not just on Memorial day, but every day. However, there is a darkside to this equation and it lies within (our) government. The abandonment of some 600 plus POWs in N. Vietmam is way beyond reprehensible. The assassination of Pat Tillman (friendly fire my ass) and the subsequent lies to the Tillman family by Dubya and his ilk still makes me see red. The sub par lack of care by the VA would require reams of paper to enumerate. Listen boys and girls, there’s gonna be a reckoning, and it won’t come too soon for my liking.

    Van T. Barfoot‏…an American hero…
On June 15, 1919, Van T. Barfoot was born in Edinburg — probably didn’t make much news back then.
Twenty-five years later, on May 23, 1944, near Carano , Italy , Van T. Barfoot, who had enlisted in the Army in 1940, set out to flank German machine gun positions from which fire was coming down on his fellow soldiers. He advanced through a minefield, took out three enemy machine gun positions and returned with 17 prisoners of war.

If that wasn’t enough for a day’s work, he later took on and destroyed three German tanks sent to retake the machine gun positions.

That probably didn’t make much news either, given the scope of the war, but it did earn Van T. Barfoot, who retired as a colonel after also serving in Korea and Vietnam , a Congressional Medal of Honor.

What did make news last week was a neighborhood association’s quibble with how the 90-year-old veteran chose to fly the American flag outside his suburban Virginia home. Seems the rules said a flag could be flown on a house-mounted bracket, but, for decorum, items such as Barfoot’s 21-foot flagpole were unsuitable.

He had been denied a permit for the pole, erected it anyway and was facing court action if he didn’t take it down. Since the story made national TV, the neighborhood association has rethought its position and agreed to indulge this old hero who dwells among them.

“In the time I have left I plan to continue to fly the American flag without interference,” Barfoot told The Associated Press.
    As well he should.
And if any of his neighbors still takes a notion to contest him, they might want to read his Medal of Honor citation. It indicates he’s not real good at backing down.

This 1944 Medal of Honor citation, listed with the National Medal of Honor
Society, is for Second Lieutenant Van T. Barfoot, 157th Infantry, 45th Infantry:

“For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond
the call of duty on 23 May 1944, near Carano , Italy . With his platoon heavily
engaged during an assault against forces well entrenched on commanding
ground, 2d Lt. Barfoot moved off alone upon the enemy left flank. He crawled
to the proximity of 1 machinegun nest and made a direct hit on it with a hand
grenade, killing 2 and wounding 3 Germans. He continued along the German
defense line to another machinegun emplacement, and with his tommygun
killed 2 and captured 3 soldiers. Members of another enemy machinegun crew
then abandoned their position and gave themselves up to Sgt. Barfoot. Leaving
the prisoners for his support squad to pick up, he proceeded to mop up positions
in the immediate area, capturing more prisoners and bringing his total count to
    17. Later that day, after he had reorganized his men and consolidated the newly
captured ground, the enemy launched a fierce armored counterattack directly at
his platoon positions. Securing a bazooka, Sgt. Barfoot took up an exposed
position directly in front of 3 advancing Mark VI tanks. >From a distance of 75
yards his first shot destroyed the track of the leading tank, effectively disabling it,
while the other 2 changed direction toward the flank. As the crew of the disabled
tank dismounted, Sgt. Barfoot killed 3 of them with his tommygun. He continued
onward into enemy terrain and destroyed a recently abandoned German
fieldpiece with a demolition charge placed in the breech. While returning to his
platoon position, Sgt. Barfoot, though greatly fatigued by his Herculean efforts,
assisted 2 of his seriously wounded men 1,700 yards to a position of safety.
Sgt. Barfoot’s extraordinary heroism, demonstration of magnificent valor, and
aggressive determination in the face of point blank fire are a perpetual
    inspiration to his fellow soldiers.”

And Bubba would be a well-deserved roommate for Dan; not sure what that might say about Bubba….LoL.

come to Eastlake Ohio and start preaching your scuzz bucket crap eating filth. I’ll be glad to meet you on the street and give you a warm welcome VietNam vet style, how bout’? you aren’t worth the crap I scraped off my shoe today while walking. The only reason you have the ability to say what you do is because of a whole lot of veterans you pimple faced punk!!!

    • Mick for thought

Dan as a retired soldier and once was rebel-without-a-clue I sit here on the fence and watch the fray between left and right. On occasion I try to introduce some thought. I have no thoughts on your comment just nausea and discussed. If you were half a man, which I doubt, you would apologize for your stupid heartless comment.

    • Allan

I wish there was a way for people like you to opt out of taxes you pay to for military and police. Those brave people would have one less consituent to protect who didn’t respect them.

Perfect response, Allan! Way to go! Thanks for the support!

    • John

Dan, you’re a pig that doesn’t deserve the blood that was spilled for your freedom.

God Bless America and our Military.

    • Claire

Dan–If the people on this site are sheep, then all I can say to you is that it takes one to know one. You are no better than anyone else. So quit the “perfect me” crap, you have not made an impression on me with your petty rant.

The link below is a virtual wall of all those lost during the Vietnam war with the names, bio’s and other information on our lost heroes. Those who remember that time frame, or perhaps lost friends or family can look them up on this site. Pass the link on to others if you like.

      Chuck b,

Thank you; I found my cousin, his picture and family members’ comments on there. I tried to add comments, but that portion of the site is temporarily down….I will try again and will forward to this my mother…I know she will appreciate this.

This day of remembrance brings a lump to my throat to think of all our brave servicemen and women of all wars who have fought and gave their lives to preserve our freedom, liberty and sovereignty. I felt proud to have played a small role in defending our nation – God Bless Them All!!!

All I can say to those who do not believe in the military’s value and honor is: You wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them keeping you safe! Someday you’ll understand.

Dan — For four successive generations, every male in my family has served this country in uniform. If you should ever be so foolish as to show up in my yard, come prepared to get yourself busted up, because you will be!

Thank you to all our troops who have sacrificed so much for all of us. I just wish that ALL people would appreciate all that is done for us, even those that can’t see it. Freedom isn’t free.

Shh! They might hear you, wake up, drink a 40 ounce of koolaid, and then try to say their mumbo jumbo on this site. Let’s do this with respect to our veterans and not worry about those the dishonor our country. For God and country! 2/152 Inf BN, Dragon slayers, Hoorah!

Allan… You are spot on! American Liberal is probably stuffing himself at a picnic and enjoying the freedoms that so many fought and died for. I am a day late posting, but I am more than thankful for my father, cousins, son, nephew and friends who have served!

A Memorial Day for what veterans. Now we need a Memorial for all the Illegial Mexican slaves who did your low income jobs, while you sent your boys off to do the dirty for you. What have you done for your country? Nothing “just” Blow your bloody horns… What have you done for your Veterans? Nothing just blow your bloody horns… History has shown your veterans upon returning are having to live and die homeless on the streets of “your” Good old USA…Most have had little and no assistance with shelter or medical needs. Was it Time Magazine? that exposed News stories of Veterans crippled, blind, traumatized, forgotten American Vets some living out their remaining existence in little rented rooms 8 X 10 alone. So I guess those deceased were the lucky ones. They did’nt have to scrape out a meager existence, to live in The Land of the Free. The land who told them all the lies. Oh yes makes you all look as if you appreciate the sacrifices, “saying” Thank-you to a Vet in Uniform is hypotcritical big Fn deal, having a wall for fallen Heroes, big Fn deal,I am sure it is sad comfort for a mother who would have been happier if her son was with her for her old age. You are lineing your pockets, Building a nation on blood letting while these young soldiers pay supreme sacrifices. Go ahead make yourself feel good.say “Thank-you” first ask yourself for what??Thank-you for destroying lives of people you do not know? Thank-you for invading countries you don’t have a bloody clue where?. “Except someone knows that there is oil there. Thank you for destroying the lives and families/homes of millions of children? Destroying their only sorce of fresh water/food? for burning the flesh of their bodies.?Blinding them? I feel like Dan reading “all of your crap”. Its a lot more than coughing up a hair ball. “thank you” It’s disgusting war mongering Republican Bull Shit. Make PEACE. “That is how you say Thank You”

    • libertytrain

Gosh, what a lovely person. Hope you are not being forced to live in the USA —

    • http://naver samurai

Ida, you sound like one of these people who didn’t have the honor to serve this great nation. Quit talking this stupid war for oil BS and remember that this day was set aside for those who died serving this country. The same men and women that gave you this freedom that you seem to enjoy very much. I suggest that you just shut the !@#$ up and show us what you have done for this country, also show us that you have earned the right to be called an American and not because you were born here. With all the !@#$%^& illegal immigrants using that line its no longer a valid arguement. What about the people we didn’t know trying to destroy us. You know Germany, Italy, Japan, etc., through our history. What about those people? Al Queda, Taliban, etc., what about those people? Just shut the !@#$ up and get out of our faces. In fact, come to Elkhart, IN and say that crap here. I guarantee you will get a response, just not the one you are expecting.
Get a life you !@#$%^& moron.

    • John

Another typical nutcase. Their rationale is so irrational.

It’s paradoxical that a part of our freedom and the sacrifices that our Military has made is so that idiots like Ida can have a voice too. Go live in Mexico or the middle east, you ungrateful moron. You think we’d be better off if Japan or Germany or any of their allies would have won WWII?

    • Mick for thought

You are the perfect example of to far left to see anything right. Ask yourself some critical questions like:
      - Where would the USA be if we did not take our battles to the enemy overseas?
      - Would you rather fight the battles in our own streets and be a nation at arms like Israel?
      - If everyone believed as you do who would be fighting for your right to believe as you do?

Take off your blinders and try to view the whole picture before you open your mouth and insult people who defend your right to open your mouth.

Mick for thought, Samurai, John and LT,

I was going to respond to Ida Snow, but you all (and I’m sure others when I read further down the list of comments) have pretty much nailed it. I can’t improve on your responses. All I can add is….so sad for Texas….what a piece of luggage for that poor state to carry.

LT – good to see your comments; I have not been on the site very frequently lately (busy at work and at home), but when I read the article for Memorial Day….I had to make time. Take care and keep the comments flowing :-).

Could this be an Ida “Snow job”. Think this comment has an SEIU, La Raza, Calderon, Obama, Alinsky, Marxist, communist, socialist twist to it? Ms. Ida “Che Guerva” Snow job, return to your oppressed countrymen and recieve a standing ovation or maybe the firing squad you so deserve.

    • John

Make peace? Like your president is trying to do and failing miserably at it?
While North Korea is threatening war? While Iran is on the verge of having Nukes?
Take your stupid head out of that hole and wake up you stupid ass.

    • Claire

Ida Snow–I know you will come back to this site to read the answers to your hateful post. Stop and think about what you have said. Our soldiers did what they were ordered to do. Do not take your spite and hatefulness out on them. Are you that callous? Be careful of what you say, it may come back to haunt you. It could affect your own family.

      • angel-wanna-be

Claire, your right, It will come back to haunt her, it’s called “what goes around, comes around”.

    • angel-wanna-be

Ida Snow, Did we forget our medicine today???___Hmmmm?

        Koolaid or valium?

  • Mick for thought

Dan and Ida remind me of the crazy people that walk into a room, scream some babble and walk back out. They are not here to listen, learn or debate just here to hear their own voices.

  • Right Wing

Well you all knew that some truly disrespectful subhumans would show up to take a dump on the men and women who have served to preserve freedom. Dan and Ida…we offer a small token of gratitude for this immeasurable sacrifice that you only measure in blood spilled. It is understandable that you could not fathom the pain, suffering, and death associated with war. Those with the knowledge, courage and commitment to preserve our freedom won in blood will do it for you. It is with the same passion that a person decides to become a soldier that most here will commit to preserving those hard won freedoms. You have a right to free speech and i am glad you see fit to exercise it. Your tasteless, baseless comments on such a revered day are like a gulp of sour, warm milk. Surely you are not surprised to draw the ire of readers for having desecrated the memory of soldiers who died in the line of duty? They do not pick their day of demise any more than you do but as they are called to defend your way of life they deserve, at a minimum, your gratitude. Your comments do nothing but detract from the value of lives personally delivered to the alter of freedom.

If you feel so passionate about your message of peace then try delivering it in person to those that wish to destroy us. If you think a verbal admonishment here is bad then wait till radical islamics take your head.
