Media Reports Suggest Internal Split In Tea Party, But Activists Disagree

Media Reports Suggest Internal Split In Tea Party, But Activists DisagreeThe recent racial controversy involving one of the organizers of Tea Party Express, and the subsequent expulsion of the group from The National Tea Party Federation, appear to have splintered the movement that seemed to be heading towards a substantial victory in this year’s midterm elections.

In a sign of a possible rift, the Express lashed back on Monday, calling the removal “ridiculous” and claiming the Federation had no right to do so.

“The Tea Party Express with over 400,000 members is by far larger than the Tea Party Federation’s entire membership,” said its spokesman Joe Wierzbicki.

He added that this “perhaps explains why so many Tea Party groups have left the ‘Federation’ during the past few months.”

Wierzbicki also vowed to keep fighting to take back the country in November rather than engage in “silly power games.”

However, despite the hostile language the federation has been quick to play down the rift. Its spokesman, David Webb, called the racial controversy “an embarrassment,” but added that “this is not a split, so the gleeful left can put away the smiles.”ADNFCR-1961-ID-19899311-ADNFCR
