Mars Curiosity Rover To Be Offered As Official Lego Toy

BILLUND, Denmark (UPI) — Danish toymaker Lego says it will produce a version of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover requested in an online vote by customers.

The rover was selected from a number of candidate creations that passed 10,000 votes on Lego’s Cuusoo website, CNET reported Tuesday.

“The product aligns well with the Lego Group’s mission to ‘inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow,’ including those who will build our future in outer space,” Lego community manager Tim Courtney said in a statement.

Stephen Pakbaz, who worked on the real Curiosity for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., created the design for the 1:20 scale Lego version of the rover.

While Lego did not announce details of pricing or availability, it promised an update “in the coming months.”
