Marine Faces Court-Martial For Urinating On Taliban Corpses

WASHINGTON, (UPI) — A U.S. Marine accused of urinating on the corpses of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan will be court-martialed, military officials said.

Sgt. Robert Richards, 27, was charged with dereliction of duty, violating a general order and conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline and underwent a pre-trial hearing on the charges in March, Stars and Stripes reported Wednesday.

Richards was one of four Marines in a video of the July 2011 incident that was posted on YouTube in 2012.

Capt. James V. Clement also had an Article 32 hearing recently, Stars and Stripes said.

Clement was the executive officer for Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment. While he wasn’t in the video, Clement was charged with dereliction of duty, violation of a lawful general order, lying to an investigator and conduct unbecoming.

Lt. Gen. Richard Mills, commanding general of Marine Corps Combat Development Command, hasn’t determined whether Clement should be court-martialed.
