Man Who Found Caylee Anthony Sues National Enquirer

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 2 (UPI) — A former meter reader in Florida is suing the National Enquirer for a headline that suggested he was the killer of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony.

Roy Kronk found the toddler’s remains in an Orlando swamp near the house where she had lived with her mother, Casey Anthony, and grandparents. His lawyer filed a lawsuit against the supermarket tabloid in Orange County Circuit Court, seeking $15 million for defamation, the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.

An article shortly after the discovery said in large type, “Meter reader killed Caylee.” The disclaimer “Casey Anthony says” was in smaller type.

The Enquirer also defamed Kronk by suggesting he had a history of “inappropriate behavior” with young girls and with “holding women against their will.” It was based on interviews with two ex-wives and a former stepdaughter.

Casey Anthony was acquitted in July of killing her daughter, although she was found guilty of lying to police.

Mike Antonello, general counsel for American Media, publisher of the Enquirer, defended the story in an e-mail to the Sentinel.

“You will see we were very neutral in our reporting on this matter,” he said. “We state that Anthony’s allegations were not supported by police reports or prior convictions.”
