Man steals $2,500 from health club members

CHICAGO, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A Michigan man was arrested in Chicago for allegedly stealing $2,500 from the lockers of six men at an upscale health club, officials said.

Charles Kurilik, 33, of Pontiac, Mich., was arrest and charged Friday with three counts of felony theft and three counts of misdemeanor theft, the Chicago Tribune reported.

A security guard at East Bank Club in River North, putting in extra work after a string of thefts at the club Thursday and Friday, spotted Kurilik in the locker room and did not recognize him, a police report said.

When the security guard discovered Kurilik was not a member of the club and did not have permission to be there, the suspect took off running. The guard and other health club staff members chased him down, though, and nabbed him several blocks away from the club, the report said.

Kurilik reportedly admitted to police he stole a total of $1,600 cash from four lockers Thursday and $840 from two lockers Friday, the report said.

The money was recovered and returned to the six victims, police said.
