Man Finds $200 In Boxes Of Cookies From Walmart

September 25, 2013 by

SALEM, Ore.,  (UPI) —  An Oregon man said he was shocked to discover $200 concealed in two boxes of cookies he purchased from Walmart.

The Salem man, who asked to be identified only as Phil, said he bought a box of snickerdoodle cookies from Walmart Saturday and he made an unexpected discovery when he opened the box at home, KPTV, Portland, Ore., reported Wednesday.

“When I opened it up, a $100 bill popped out,” he said.

Phil said he thought it was a trick at first, but he soon became convinced the bill was real and went back to Walmart to examine the other boxes of cookies.

“The remaining three boxes were still there, so I looked at the one and I looked at the other, and lo and behold, there was a second $100 bill,” Phil said.

Phil said he took the money to the customer service desk, where they used a special marker and verified the bills were real. Walmart managers told Phil to keep the money.

A store manager said the money may have been planted by a generous stranger. He said an anonymous customer came into the store during the last Christmas season and paid off layaway items for several families.

Phil said the person who left the money has his gratitude.

“I’m really thankful, I really appreciate it, and I hope someday I hope to be able to do what you did,” he said.
