BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Nov. 25 (UPI) — Authorities in New Jersey said mysterious lights in the sky over the city of Bridgewater may have been caused by transformer fires amid heavy rains.
Bridgewater authorities said they had no definitive explanation for the early Wednesday lights, but they determined there was no cause for alarm and some theorized the lights were the result of transformer fires in the heavy rains, The (Newark) Star Ledger reported Thursday.
Township Council President Howard Norgalis said he was aware of several electricity-related fires in the area around the time the lights were reported, between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“The sky lit up like pure daylight,” said resident Joseph Wing, 87. “This was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.”
