Lies our leaders tell us

OK, this is it, I promise: my last column on the so-called debt crisis (at least until next month). I know you’re getting tired of hearing about it. Heck, I’m getting tired of writing about it.

But the lies and distortions have gotten so outrageous in the past few days that I simply must get up on my soapbox one more time and try to clear up a few of the biggest piles of malarkey. (Some of you may prefer a stronger word for what’s being thrown around.) Here are the latest “Big Four” that got my goat.

There is no Aug. 2 deadline

I know; it’s hard to believe. All we’ve heard for months is economic catastrophe will befall us if the debt ceiling isn’t raised by Tuesday.

But where did that date come from? It was plucked out of thin air by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. It has no basis in fact, in law or in any accounting data anyone can present. The big spenders in Washington simply picked a date at random with which to frighten the American public.

Even Geithner admits that “technically” the government ran out of money two months ago. He says he used “extraordinary measures” and “accounting maneuvers” to delay the crisis as long as possible. But if he could do it for eight weeks, why not nine? Or 10?

Obama threatens to stiff seniors and vets

This one really has me steamed. Two weeks ago, the President told CBS News, “I cannot guarantee that those [Social Security] checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue. …this is not just a matter of Social Security checks. These are veterans’ checks, these are folks on disability and their checks.”

All of which, as I showed in last week’s column, is a big, fat lie. (Click here if you missed that one.) If Social Security checks go out late, it will be because Barack Obama and his henchmen wanted to frighten our senior citizens and disabled vets out of their wits. (And frighten them into voting for him again in 2012, I should add.)

Can you think of anything this man has done that’s more despicable? (Well, OK, I’ll admit that killing a bunch of innocent civilians in Libya and other places is also pretty bad.)

There is plenty of money to pay our debts

The latest figures I could find show that the government expects to take in about $173 billion in revenue in August. Interest payments on Treasury securities for the month come to about $29 billion. We can pay every penny we owe and still have $144 billion left for other things. Not everything the Democrats want to do, I’ll admit. Not even everything they’ve already authorized. But so what?

It’s time to do what every family in America has to do when the money runs out, folks. Cut spending.

It’s all the Republicans’ fault

This may be the biggest whopper of them all. It wasn’t the Republicans who ran up those gigantic deficits. Barack Obama has forced our government to borrow more money in the past two years than any prior President did in eight.

Yet he wants you to believe that everything would be hunky-dory if it weren’t for those troglodytes in Congress. Is there anyone in America who actually believes this? Besides a few leftist university professors and some community organizers, that is.

Please remember that as President of the United States, Barack Obama was legally required to present a budget to Congress a year ago. Let me also remind you that back then, he had a solid Democratic majority in both houses. He could have gotten virtually anything he wanted passed. Why didn’t he?

Oh, and here’s a kicker you probably don’t know: According to a law passed way back in the days when Jimmy “Killer Rabbit” Carter was President, Obama’s budget had to be balanced.

Yup, even I forgot about this one. Section 7 of Public Law 95-435 declares, “Beginning with fiscal year 1981, the total budget outlays of the Federal Government shall not exceed its receipts.”

This has been the law of the land for 30 years, ladies and gentlemen. It’s never been repealed. Of course, I’ve got to admit it’s never been obeyed, either. That’s another objection I have to a Balanced Budget Amendment. If the big spenders in Washington won’t obey this law, what makes you think they’ll obey another one that says essentially the same thing?

In yet another speech filled with lies and deception, our Dissembler in Chief declared last week that “Congress has run up the credit card.” Who told it to, Mr. President? In fact, who insisted on all of that additional spending? May I respectfully suggest, sir, that for the answer you look in a mirror?

The President keeps trotting out his lament about corporate jets and how awful it is that our country allows this “tax break for the rich.” Apparently, this canard plays well in Peoria, so he uses it again and again.

Here’s how petty the President is being. If businesses weren’t allowed special deductions for the depreciation of those jets, government tax revenue would go up $3 billion. Or to put it another way, Obama’s deficit just for this year would be slashed from $1.4 trillion to — are you ready for this? — $1.397 trillion. That’s really impressive, isn’t it?

If the Democrats could do this 1,000 times, the Internal Revenue Service would collect an additional $300 billion in taxes. That is about one-third the deficit Barack Obama has incurred for this year.

Barack Obama is one of the most divisive, dishonest and mean-spirited men to ever hold high office in this country. And considering the competition, that’s saying something.

So what if we run out of money?

The bean counters tell us that if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, the government of the United States won’t be able to pay about 44 percent of the bills coming due next month.

Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

I’m serious. Think for a moment about what would happen if this country went a month with the Departments of Commerce, Energy, Interior, Agriculture and a bunch of others doing nothing, because they didn’t have the funds?

I think we would quickly find out we don’t need them. And that this country is a richer, freer, more prosperous place without them. Private industry would create millions of new jobs. Profits would go up. So would tax revenue.

Ask some of the oldsters out there what happened at the end of World War II. Millions of soldiers returned home, ready to roll up their sleeves and go to work. Thousands of factories that were busy making war material turned their attention to making consumer goods. And this nation rode a wave of prosperity, innovation and job creation that lasted for decades.

I think the same thing would happen again, if the bloated, oppressive bureaucracy our politicians have created were shut down… or at least drastically trimmed.

As a fellow writer put it, wouldn’t you relish the prospect of “thousands of government employees, people with perfectly productive minds, some of them quite brilliant, making the change from parasites to producers?”

Sure you would. We can dream, can’t we?

    SECTION 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.       As the most recently updated naval map from Stratfor demonstrates, the CVN 77 G.H.W. Bush has just entered the Persian Gulf, the first time a US aircraft carrier has passed through the Straits of Hormuz in months. What is also notable is that the LHD 5 Bataan amphibious warfare ship has just weighed anchor right next to Libya: this is odd since the coast of Tripoli had been left unattended for many weeks by US attack ships. And topping it all off is that a third aircraft carrier, the CVN 73, is sailing west from the South China seas, potentially with a target next to CVN 76 Ronald Reagan which is the second carrier in the Straits of Hormuz area. Three carriers in proximity to Iran would be extremely troubling.

      CIA veteran Robert Baer, the man played by George Clooney in Syriana, who as Al Jazeera reports, appeared on KPFK Los Angeles, warning that Israeli PM Netanyahu is “likely to ignite a war with Iran in the very near future.”

      Zbig Brzezinski: “Obama Adm. Should Tell Israel U.S. Will Attack Israeli Jets if They Try to Attack Iran.”

      The national security adviser for former President Jimmy Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski, gave an interview to The Daily Beast in which he suggested President Obama should make it clear to Israel that if they attempt to attack Iran’s nuclear weapons sites the U.S. Air Force will stop them.

      “We are not exactly impotent little babies,” Brzezinski said. “They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch? … We have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not.

      No one wishes for this but it could be a ‘Liberty’ in reverse.”

          Reid just won, he will be around for five and a half more years. Ronald Reagan tripled the national debt in his 8 years in office, raising it from $900 billion in 1981 to $2.6 trillion in 1989. He was a huge spender and deficit deadbeat.

            No, these were also Reagan’s budgets that he authorized, approved, and signed. He spent vast amounts of money on the military and never really cut that much in social spending as he claimed he would. He also enacted significant tax breaks that greatly increase the deficits exponentially. You certainly wouldn’t say that the giant deficits in the past two budgets were all Congress’ fault would you? Obama had no hand in them?

            Chip Wood, your figures are wrong! You must use due diligence when quoting figures. These facts were supplied by the Bipartisan Policy Center. Maybe facts don’t matter to the conservatives but the rest of us demand accuracy when screwing with our lives. The Bipartisan Policy Center also has Conservatives on it’s board, maybe you would consider them as a source of info.

            Sorry, Mark, but you’re WRONG. ALL spending bills MUST originate in the House of Representatives. Between about 1953 and 1995, the House of Representatives was totally controlled by Democrats–without a single year’s break. If President Reagan had any faults, it was his reluctance to veto those 2,500 page “budgets” submitted by Congress with ONE day before government shutdown and just LET the government shut down. The Reagan tax CUTS resulted in tax revenues to the government DOUBLING within 3 years! THAT’S a fact. The deficits were because (contrary to their promise to Reagan) the Democrat-controlled Congress SPENT $1.60 for every new dollar coming in. Seeing all that “extra” money, Democrats simply CANNOT restrain themselves from spending it, and THAT’S a fact, too.

            I think that if you go check it out you will also find that G.W. Bush ran our debt up by leaps and bounds. The fragile communist economy, already stretched thin by substantial defense spending, could not keep up with America’s defense buildup. The possibility of American missile defense, and President Reagan’s powerful rhetoric, further persuaded the Soviets they could not win the Cold War, and induced the reforms that culminated in the collapse of the Soviet empire — without America firing a single shot. It was the best $800 billion investment America ever made.

          Would you raise the top income-tax rate back to 70 percent? Commentators also blame the 1980s deficits on President Reagan’s insistence on reducing taxes in 1981. Yet President Reagan inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression. Excessively high tax rates were discouraging work and investment and therefore damaging the economy while raising little revenue. President Reagan removed barriers to entrepreneurship by reducing tax rates, cutting red tape, and stabilizing the economy, thereby encouraging risk takers.           Would you trade 2.8 million jobs? Before the Reagan tax relief, the unemployment rate averaged 7.7 percent. Since the tax cuts, it has averaged 5.8 percent — a difference that translates into 2.8 million jobs per year.

          Would you trade $15,000 of your annual income? In the two decades before the Reagan tax relief, the average household’s annual disposable income increased $13,000. In the 20 years following Reagan’s tax cuts, these incomes surged $28,000.

          Would you trade the stock market boom? In the two decades before the Reagan tax relief, the S&P 500 increased 120 percent. In the 20 years following Reagan’s tax cuts, the market jumped 575 percent.

          And don’t forget the 12 percent inflation rate and 21 percent interest rates that Reaganomics slew.

          The Reagan tax cuts replaced the deepest recession since the Great Depression with the largest 20-year boom in American history. Tax revenues actually grew faster in the low-tax 1980s than in the high-tax 1970s, and rising incomes meant the share of taxes paid by the wealthy actually increased throughout the 1980s. Millions of people who had entered the 1980s in the lowest income quintile surged to the highest income quintile by 1990.

          All a coincidence? As Reagan would say, “there you go again.”

          Sure, President Reagan would have preferred to minimize the deficits by eliminating wasteful spending. However, the only way to persuade a Democratic Congress to accept a defense buildup and pro-growth tax cuts was to agree to their domestic spending demands.

          Ironically, the 1980s budget deficits made the 1990s surpluses possible. The budget was balanced by surging tax revenues from a booming, low-tax economy and defense savings brought on by the end of the Cold War.”–Brian R.

            The only thing I would say about the ESTABLISHMENT fearing to go toe-to-toe with us is that they are smarter than that. They have set us up to turn on each other and get the job done for them. It’s another big reason why we have had the flood of third-worlders, both legal and illegal, pouring into our country and taking more than what our citizens can get, and why they bring people from countries who despise America and seek to take us over.

            With the threats that continue to pile up against us from those who will soon see the free ride slipping away, and the increasing thuggery from our law enforcement, and the Leftist Marxists who are being incited to explode into homegrown terrorists, the PTB doesn’t need to do another thing. They’ll just wait out the raging wars among the factions from the comfort of their palacial underground bunkers (which they built through theft of OUR MONEY) until all they have to do is bring in their forces to clean up the rest.

            Gee, thats funny because I thought Israel got most if not all of their military gear (fighters ) ect. from the United States. and BTW there is no military in the world more superior or professional than ours. There is no military in the world capable of doing what our military does.Yes ours is the profession of arms. Don’t ever forget that. Israel, give me a darn break. One of or heavy divisions would crush the entire armed forces of Israel reload and take Cuba.

          AT LAST somebody who knows and is compelled to speak the truth, Semper Fi to Pat Bright. As one who was a frequent flyer in that Karzy Asian conflict, a gun ship helo driver, I would not obey any order to fire upon any ally regardless of political or religious beliefs. Every American must know that there are few, if any, ‘political solutions’ when dealing with a mad man. I am not privy to any conflict that did not require military means in which to resolve the conflict. Please inform me if I’m misinformed.

        The UN right now is forcing Isreal to give up there land.They are going to force the issue and obummer is fully behind it.They just had another meeting in DC on it and they refuse to give it up.They are planning to go to war as we speak.I would hope that we support them in it but with this jerk in office I doubt it.The invasion of Syria is almost ready they have been prepping our military to go in through turkey for some months now.And china and russia both are going to stand in the way.So you see this is the first step to total world war.

        If you’ve ever found yourself engaged in debate with a liberal in an attempt to convince him that government spending is out of control, you know it’s often an exercise in frustration. This is especially true when your liberal invokes his holier-than-thou conviction that the supposed good he is intent on imposing upon the world — both domestically and internationally — must trump any financial considerations you may introduce into the debate.

        Well, fret no more. Here’s a surefire formula to stop any liberal dead in his tracks: a series of four questions that every liberal must be asked. It involves a few mathematical exercises, the effects of which are guaranteed to negate whatever Keynesian psycho-babble may have infected a liberal’s neuronal functioning. I have found this bottom-line number-crunching to be the best form of deprogramming for whatever Kool-Aid the Obamanomics crowd has been ingesting.

        The Four Questions

        Here’s how it works. Take out a sheet of lined paper (legal yellow pad, preferably) and a pen. Number the top four lines of the page 1 through 4 down the left-hand side. Hand the page to your liberal and ask him if he would kindly indulge you: would he answer the following four questions? Then proceed to ask them, in order. Let him write down each answer before proceeding to the next question.

        The four questions are:

        What is total spending of the federal budget?
        What is the federal deficit?
        What is the national debt?
        What was the most recent interest payment on the national debt?
        You’ll be surprised at the answers. The first impression you’ll get is that most won’t know the difference between “deficit” and “national debt.” You see, liberals are all for spending your money, but they don’t have a clue how much of it is being spent nor how much debt they’re getting us into in order to do that spending. You’ll also find that the answer to question #1 ranges from a low of several hundred billion to a trillion; no one, it seems, is able to get the answer to within $300-$400 billion.

        The Four Answers

        The next step is to correct their answers by crossing out what they’ve written and, beside it, writing down the right figures. They are:

        1) Total spending for the federal budget for 2010 is projected to be approximately $3.6 trillion. The budget comprises total expenditures and total receipts by the federal government.

        2) The federal deficit for 2010 is projected to be approximately $1.2 trillion. However, note that in 2009, the deficit was projected to be $407 billion but ended up being $1.4 trillion. The deficit is total expenditures less total receipts (such as income taxes) received. When receipts exceed expenditures, there is a surplus.

        3) The national debt at the end of fiscal year 2010 is projected to be $14 trillion. This debt is the accumulation of every year’s deficit since 1776 less all accumulated surpluses.

        4) The annual interest payment on the National Debt for 2010 is projected to be $164 billion.

        The Debt In 2015

        Underneath the four answers, write this: “The debt in 2015 is projected to total $20 trillion.”

        The Extrapolation

        Explain that the interest the government pays (#4) on the debt (#3) is raised by selling financial instruments such as Treasury Bills to investors (such as the People’s Republic of China). These financial instruments are currently paying about 1.5% interest, which will result in the approximately $164 billion in interest expense to the federal government.

        Here’s where it gets interesting. Remind your liberal that interest rates fluctuate (Remember when interest rates almost reached 20% back in the early ’80s?), as this graph demonstrates. Note this graph is the historical rates for three-month U.S. Treasury Bills, one of the very instruments used to service the debt. Also remind your liberal that we are experiencing historically low interest rates, which means that interest rates have only one direction in which to go.

        Treasuries at 6% Paying Today’s Debt

        Then ask what he thinks will happen to interest rates if China and other purchasers of American debt stop buying, and what we would have to do in order to attract them back: will rates go up or down? Ask your liberal, “If interest rates on treasuries go up to just a modest 6% — which is more than triple the current interest rate we are paying — what will the annual interest payment be on just today’s approximately $14-trillion national debt?” Here’s the math:

        $14,000,000,000,000 X 0.06 = $840,000,000,000.

        That’s an $840-billion annual interest payment on the current national debt.

        Treasuries at 10% Paying Today’s Debt

        But interest rates can easily go up to 10%…after all we’ve seen much higher rates within our lifetimes. What would the annual interest expense be on the current debt level if we had to pay 10% a year in interest?

        $14,000,000,000,000 X 0.10 = $1,400,000,000,000.

        That’s $1.4 trillion in annual interest payments on just the current national debt.

        Treasuries at 6% and 10% in 2015

        But we’re told that at projected deficit levels the debt will reach $20 trillion in just four years. At 6% and 10%, the annual interest payments on the debt would be:

        @ 6%: $1.2 trillion

        @ 10%: $2 trillion

        Note that the above two figures just service the debt; they don’t reduce the principal of the debt. Note also that $2 trillion represents more than half of all current federal spending.

        All the Signs Were There for the 2007 Financial Meltdown

        Only a few astute individuals foresaw the global financial meltdown of 2007. Indeed, those few warned us and provided ample evidence: AIG’s overselling of their credit default swaps, lax Freddie and Fannie rules for granting mortgages, etc. But we ignored them.

        Now we look at those very same facts and figures from pre-2007 and think, of course! It was so obvious…how could we have missed it? The numbers were there for anyone to see. Trillions of dollars in credit default swaps liability on just the part of AIG, and if the market moved against it, the world economy collapses. And yet despite all the signs, despite all the public information readily available upon which any and all could perform the most rudimentary high school math, we missed everything.

        There’s another financial crisis looming. All the signs are there, all the numbers are right under our collective nose, and we all have access to calculators and spreadsheets on those free Microsoft programs that come on the laptops and desktops we own. But again, we’re in full court press denial mode: ignoring what’s sitting smack drab in front of us…and President Obama, his Democrat minions in Congress, and not just a few borrow and spend Bush 43 Republicans insist upon going down the same deficit path we’ve been tripping the light fantastic upon for the past decade of unbridled spending.

        What to Do

        Governments tax and spend; this is what they do. Indeed, it’s what they’re supposed to do. It’s all part and parcel of running a country, and it can’t be avoided. But as we all now know, things have simply gotten out of hand…and record deficits and a national debt approaching our annual GDP underline the insanity of the liberal spend spend spend credo.

        We have come to accept declarations of political pundits who declare that “it is the end of America as we know it!” unless we heed whatever warning or policy they are promoting as part of the political lexicon. A hackneyed phrase, to be sure, and largely ignored or merely tolerated.

        But in this instance, we may want to conclude that such a declaration is justified. Trillions in annual payments just to service the debt without even reducing it one iota does indeed justify alarm. As I see it, it means one of two things:

        - Indebted servitude to our creditors for decades to come, a form of financial slavery in which at least half of every dollar in federal taxes goes to interest payments instead of government services; or

        - Government-induced hyper-inflation in which the trillions in debt will be paid off, but the process will impoverish tens of millions of fixed-income Americans and irrevocably diminish the reputation of America on the world stage and global markets.

        Either way, the America we’ve known up to now is over. And Republican 2010 campaign pledges to bring federal spending down to — wow! — 2008 levels simply don’t cut it.

        Even a balanced budget is not enough. What we need is a surplus budget, and we need it now — not next year, not five years from now…even if it means financial pain, which it will.

        An ounce of hurt now is going to be a whole lot better than a pound of excruciating pain later.

      Apparently, “Debt and More Debt”, you are unaware of the distinction made between “debts” and “obligations.” The money the Federal Government borrows from other countries and from its own citizens is debt. Money to pay such items as “entitlements”, salaries, etc are obligations. It would not be a default should they fail to pay the military or social security, etc since those are not considered debt. I agree, it would be scurrilous, but that’s the way politicians operate. Next we’ll be trying to determine how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Considering all of these things, I just bet we could reduce our national debts a whopping amount and go back to being a nation…that is JUST AFTER JANET IS GONE, HOMELAND, AN ILLEGAL AGENCY IS DEFUNDED, GONE AND THE TSA GO AWAY.           Bottom line, our government spends about 40% more money each year than they take in. That has got to change, and quick, or our government is going to go bankrupt. The rating agencies threatened downgrade is simply a symptom of the real problem, not the problem. If the debt isn’t reduced significantly, and soon, our credit rating is going to be downgraded anyway. If our Congress doesn’t debate the debt now when they’ve got to vote on raising the debt limit, then when? I’m pretty sure that’s why Congress imposed a debt limit on themselves in the first place, don’t you think? Also, don’t forget if the Democrats really wanted to increase the debt limit without debate, then why do you think they didn’t simply do this when they were in the majority in both houses of Congress? It has occurred to some of us that they probably wanted the Republicans to submit a budget that put some constraints on spending so they could claim Republicans were “cutting” critical funding for social programs. Republicans have tried to constrain the government’s spending, although not enough. They have not really cut spending on any program from current spending levels. All that they’ve been able to do so far is cut the amount of increase in spending that has been proposed. None of these proposals have really reduced the debt, much less balanced the budget. As I said, we’ve got to get real about how much debt we already have, and seriously start reducing it. We’re out of time.

            I don’t think so. Here’s what Paul Ryan proposed regarding Social Security in his recent budget proposal:

            He proposed making changes to the program for folks over 55, but leaving those over 55 alone. If we don’t allow these kinds of changes to be made to the program, it’s going to go down the drain along with everything else in the not-so-distant future. I don’t think it’s unfair to make changes to younger people’s benefits since they haven’t contributed as much to the program as older folks.

            By the way, it was the Democrats that voted to put the Social Security funds in the general fund so this money could be spent on anything Congress wanted to spend it on. Republicans have argued for years that this money should be set aside and put in a “lock box.” Remember?

            It’s true that Republicans didn’t initially want to set up the Social Security program because they didn’t like the premise it was built on. It’s also true that they still see flaws in the program structure, and that’s why they have proposed reforms to it on several occassions. However, now that we have it, they have tried to reform and preserve it for the people who have been contributing into it. It’s the Democrats that don’t want to reform the program, but they don’t have any problem increasing the contribution levels and spending the money on other things. If either party is trying to kill the program, I believe it’s the Democratic Party.

            The Republicans didn’t want to do away with Social Security. That was the spin put on their real proposals by the MSM. Republicans have proposed various fixes such as privatizing Social Security or scaling down the participation rates.
            Also Means Testing has been tossed around, but I don’t remember any Republicans advocating that. I have heard Democrat James Clyburn talk about Means Testing though.

      Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them..

      Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

      Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

      You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The President does.

      You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

      You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

      You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

      You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

      One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 555 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

      I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but PRIVATE, central bank.

      I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.

      Those 555 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

      What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits….. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

      The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who was the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She was the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want.

      If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

      It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 555 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 555 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 555 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

      If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

      If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red ..

      If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it’s because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan…

      If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it
      that way.

      There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 555 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

      Those 555 people, and they alone, are responsible.

      They, and they alone, have the power..

      They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

      Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees…

      We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

      The last few weeks have been filled with debate, accusations, stalemate and false claims about the debt ceiling and how — and whether — it should be raised. As the Aug. 2 default deadline looms, here’s a look at the less-than-factual talking points we’ve addressed.
      Republicans constantly repeat that President Obama is demanding a “blank check,” when in fact he’s seeking borrowing authority to pay obligations already approved by Congress — and has said he’d accept deep spending cuts to get approval of that authority. For his part, the president has said raising the debt limit has been “routine” for every president since the 1950s. True, but his request is anything but routine; it would be the largest increase in history, in inflation-adjusted dollars.
      Some in the GOP have claimed that the government could continue to make interest payments on the debt and avoid default, even without borrowing any more. But to do that, the government would have to cut all non-interest spending by 34 percent next fiscal year to make ends meet. And if some programs (like Social Security or Medicare) were cut less, others would have to be cut even more deeply.
      Read on to the Analysis for more on these claims and others from the debt-limit debate.
      Will Congress agree on a way to raise the debt limit before Treasury says the government can’t pay all of its obligations? We only wish we could predict the future. But we can give a rundown of the misleading and false claims that have fueled the long, partisan debate.
      What’s a Blank Check?
      Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner and Rep. Michele Bachmann, have said that the president wants “a blank check.” Not true. First, he’s asking to borrow money to pay obligations Congress has already approved. Second, Obama has proposed cutting spending by between $1.5 trillion and $1.7 trillion over 10 years in exchange for increasing the borrowing limit.
      Boehner said in his July 25 speech that the president “wants a blank check today.” At a July 28 appearance at the National Press Club, presidential candidate Bachmann said that “President Obama has asked for a $2.4 trillion blank check to get himself through the election in 2012.” The conservative group Crossroads GPS also has made “no more blank checks” the theme of a major ad campaign.
      We’re a little perplexed by this popular talking point. A “blank check” would be authorization for unlimited spending. But Obama has been seeking, as Bachmann mentioned, a $2.4 trillion increase in the debt limit, according to various reports — that’s a lot of money, but not a blank check. Plus, as we mentioned, the president has proposed well more than a trillion in spending cuts, according to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, as well as tax increases to raise revenue. That’s not a $2.4 trillion check with no strings attached. Republicans haven’t agreed with what the president has supported to reduce the deficit, but it’s false to characterize his proposals as a “blank check.”

      Not Exactly ‘Routine’
      Obama said it has been “routine” for presidents to raise the debt limit in the past. “Since the 1950s, Congress has always passed it, and every president has signed it,” he said July 25. That’s true — in fact, every president since the 1940s except for Harry Truman raised the debt ceiling. But this increase is the largest in history, in inflation-adjusted dollars.
      We only found a few occasions that came anywhere close to the $2.4 trillion increase the White House wants this time around. There was a $1.6 trillion increase, in inflation-adjusted dollars, under President George H.W. Bush, and a $1.2 trillion increase, also inflation-adjusted, under President George W. Bush. During President Jimmy Carter’s term, the limit was raised by nearly $1.4 trillion and $1.3 trillion in two separate instances.

      34 Percent Spending Cuts
      Bachmann claimed that the U.S. wouldn’t default if it didn’t raise the debt limit, “because very simply the Treasury secretary can pay the interest on the debt first and then from there we have to just prioritize our spending.” And Sen. Jim DeMint said that “we’re not talking about draconian types of situations” if the ceiling isn’t increased.
      But we did the math, and the government would have to cut spending next fiscal year by 34 percent if the debt limit doesn’t go up, and if interest payments are exempted from those cuts. If popular programs like Medicare and Social Security were also exempted, everything else the government spends money on would have to be cut by 53 percent. It’s a matter of opinion whether such cuts are acceptable, but Bachmann and DeMint suggested these wouldn’t amount to drastic budget slashing.

      Social Security and the Deficit
      Democratic Rep. Xavier Becerra of California said that he would “fight to take [Social Security] off the table” in budget negotiations, because it “hasn’t contributed 1 cent to the deficit that we face today, nor 1 cent to any of the national debt, the $14.3 trillion.” We take no position on whether Social Security should be cut, but it’s wrong to say it’s not contributing to the deficit.
      Social Security benefits paid were more than payroll taxes in 2010, leading to a cash deficit of $49 billion. For 2011, the Social Security and Medicare Boards of Trustees project a $46 billion deficit. And those figures don’t include the billions more the government will have to borrow to cover that reduction in payroll taxes that was in last year’s deal to extend the Bush tax cuts.

      First Time Flirting with Default?
      Obama’s communications director, Dan Pfeiffer, said the country has “never been in a situation where we have been in danger of defaulting on our obligations.” Actually, we have.
      The U.S. was in danger of default three previous times under President George W. Bush, according to a Congressional Research Service report. Treasury used accounting measures to avoid default when the government was just millions away from hitting the debt limit in 2002 and 2003. In 2002, Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill threatened to resign, telling Congress: “You’re going to have to raise the debt ceiling or you’re going to have to find a new Treasury secretary, because I’m not going to go to jail because you failed to act and I have to take some extraordinary action that is unconstitutional. I’m not going to do that.”
      The country also came close to defaulting in 1995-1996 under President Bill Clinton.
      Default ‘Danger’ Revisited July 28
      Falsely Accusing the President
      Speaker Boehner said Obama is against “fundamental changes to our entitlement programs.” But Obama has supported raising the eligibility age for Medicare, means-testing benefits and decreasing future Social Security payments, and he says he has proposed cuts of $650 billion over a decade. Whether those are “fundamental changes” is opinion, but it’s false to imply that Obama isn’t willing to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
      Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell claimed that Obama “rejected the only plan the Democrats have proposed” to increase the debt limit, a reference to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s plan. But that’s not true. In fact, White House Press Secretary Carney issued a statement that said the Senate Democrats’ proposal was “a responsible compromise” that both parties should support. And in his speech to the nation July 25, the president said: “The Senate has introduced a plan to avoid default, which makes a down payment on deficit reduction and ensures that we don’t have to go through this again in six months. I think that’s a much better approach, although serious deficit reduction would still require us to tackle the tough challenges of entitlement and tax reform.”
      McConnell’s spokesman told us that since the Reid plan didn’t raise taxes and Obama has called for doing so, he must not support Reid’s plan. But that reasoning is completely contradicted by Obama’s explicit support for the Reid proposal.

      Won’t Get Much from Oil Companies
      Obama said Republicans would rather cut Medicare than get rid of tax breaks for oil companies and corporate jet owners. But voters should know that the revenue from raising those taxes wouldn’t even amount to 1 percent of the deficit.
      The president, in his July 25 speech, said that “most Americans … don’t understand how we can ask a senior citizen to pay more for her Medicare before we ask a corporate jet owner or the oil companies to give up tax breaks that other companies don’t get.” But most Americans may not know that those popular-sounding revenue raisers would only bring in about $39 billion over 10 years. That’s less than one-half of 1 percent of the $9.5 trillion projected deficit over those 10 years. And it’s also a small fraction of the $1.2 trillion in tax revenue the president reportedly has been seeking.

      Reagan Wasn’t So Reluctant
      In a campaign ad, Texas Rep. Ron Paul — no fan of raising the debt limit — falsely suggested that President Ronald Reagan was reluctant to increase the debt ceiling in 1987. But Reagan actually said he had “no objection whatsoever” to doing so.
      Paul’s ad quoted a New York Times article as saying, “‘Mr. Reagan reluctantly agreed Saturday to sign the legislation, which also raises the government debt ceiling.” … (The emphasis was included in the ad graphics.)
      But Reagan’s reluctancy in signing the bill had to with his objection to spending cuts that would be triggered under certain circumstances, cuts that he thought would hurt national defense. As we mentioned, Reagan didn’t object to raising the debt limit. In fact, he signed legislation to do so 17 times during his eight years in office.

Obama and other progressives have made it clear that they believe in a system of man made positive rights, which requires an ever-growing and more powerful government.       May I point out that the senate rejected Obama’s vague budget plan in May, 97 – 0. No Democratic senator was willing to support it, however, after Obama discussed a more ambitious plan at George Washington University to save $4 trillion over 12 years. Republicans criticized his speech for lacking detail…No surprise as political doublespeak has always lacked any form of detail.

    “Oh, and here’s a kicker you probably don’t know: According to a law passed way back in the days when Jimmy “Killer Rabbit” Carter was President, Obama’s budget had to be balanced.

    Yup, even I forgot about this one. Section 7 of Public Law 95-435 declares, “Beginning with fiscal year 1981, the total budget outlays of the Federal Government shall not exceed its receipts.”

    This has been the law of the land for 30 years, ladies and gentlemen. It’s never been repealed. Of course, I’ve got to admit it’s never been obeyed, either. That’s another objection I have to a Balanced Budget Amendment. If the big spenders in Washington won’t obey this law, what makes you think they’ll obey another one that says essentially the same thing?”

    Of course Obama and his minions would probably try to repeal this law.

    Wake Up majority of Americans! Ronald Reagan’s “Trickle Down” was an enormous failure that tremendously increased America’s debt and unemployment. The billionaires have not been and are not “job creaters” as Speaker of the House Boehner says. The billionaires and their paid politicians have been job robbers by shipping jobs out of America for 50 years to slave countries that pay virtually no salary and no benefits. The billionaire’s action demolished America’s tax base, reduced employee contributions to social security and medicare/medicaid, and they bankrupted America. I feel very bad for the poor population of countries that are run by exploitive corrupt ruthless leaders. But, shipping jobs from America to those countries did not help the citizens of those countries. America has become a country run by exploitive, corrupt ruthless leaders!

    It is infuriating and insulting to see the politicians at their worst today playing stupid games stupidly and they think the public does not recognize what games they are playing for whom!

    A few examples of their destructive corruption are:
    1. Trade agreements such as NAFTA that politicians enact to authorize their billionaires to ship jobs away from America. There used to be Tariff wars to protect a countries employers and products. They then saw the gold mine to exploit global economy and transportation to ship jobs to slave countries and make consumers buy the cheap products unencumbered by Tariffs (
    2. Tax breaks, subsidies and loopholes for their billionaire employers.
    3. Contracts that politicians award to their billionaire’s companies that cannot do the job (costs and schedule quadruple or terminate, hopefully terminate) instead of awarding the contracts to companies that could do the job that were carefully selected by the employees.
    4. Unions were needed in the 1920s to protect employees and help build America’s middle class. But, unions became self-interested corporations that enabled shipping jobs out of America that led to the destruction of the middle class in America.

    I contributed to Social Security and Medicare for almost 50 years. I expect those programs to be there in the future.

    Remove the tax breaks, subsidies and loopholes for billionaires and use that revenue to create innovation and inventiveness that creates jobs that will be kept in America. Make that effective in 2012, don’t delay to 2013. Remove politicians that refuse to do that.

    Curley, Larry and Moe would have led us better than the corrupt leaders we now have.

    President Obama has acted more conservative than most Republicans by approving the extension of tax cuts to Billionaires. Very Disappointing! President Obama is just another puppet paid by the Billionaires, as have been all politicians!

      You are dead wrong when you think government can take taxes and create jobs. Look at the Post Office. How much does it lose annually? UPS and FedEx both are profitable doing the same thing the Post office does and cheaper. Why? They have an incentive to find ways to save expenses. Government does not have any incentive as its funds come from taxes, involuntarily paid, rather than purchases made voluntarily. Look at all the businesses the IRS has taken over for back taxes and have had to sell at a loss since the could not keep them going. Government has no profit motive to make it more efficient. When you have taxes as a fall back to shore you up, why be efficient. You must have some reason for people to buy your product and the government does not produce, it only regulates. Regulation costs money and reduces the profits available to create more jobs, or buy other producer’s goods.

The mailman was too lazy to drive down a 200 ft driveway and get my signature, so he left the notice instead. Now I have to drive 2 miles to the Post Office, and then wait in line for 20 minutes to pick up the letter. That on top of the fact that certified mail is much more expensive than regular mail.

            Dave, I had a problem with FedEx similar. Rather than drive the two blocks of my easy to drive driveway, he left down by the mailbox. Who knew? Not I till 24 hours later.           USPS does receive indirect subsidies from tax revenues, however, which reimburse the Postal Service for the reduced rates it charges to nonprofit organizations and “others”. Others? Hmmmm!

          The Postal Service has a legally protected monopoly on the delivery of letters to mailboxes. Eighty percent of its revenues come from mail covered by that monopoly.

          So the answer is “YES”, the USPS does recieve taxpayer subsidised money.

      I always love socialist dribble! They hate those who have earned and produced their way to success. Instead we must punish them in their tiny minds. If tomorrow everyone made no more than 250,000 there would have to be an immediate huge tax on everyone to make up for the 70% drop in tax revenues. Obviously you have no clue on running a business. What you have to spend to produce and market a product is subtracted from what you sell it for. That includes corporate jets so you can quickly get from one place to another and not be dependent on seat availabilty or even the one flight a day that goes into some cities in America. That is not a loop hole the incompetent and economically illiterate DIC (Dictator in Chief) thinks it is. He thought corporate jets was a good idea when he put in the stimulus bill. I side with the freedom of letting producers produce and oppose the enslavers who are the Looter and Moocher class progressives/liberals/socialists who just want to use the law to steal from people who earned their way. We no longer tax to pay for roads, bridges, military, courts, etc. — no we tax to steal from one group to give to another group (moochers)so they will vote the looters into office.

      The other big problem is the out of control regulations and EPA rules changes. A guy and his 2 brothers just built a small shed for us. $2600. I asked how business was going and how I was amazed at how they could walk on top of the 2×4 to build the shed – he immediately launched into a tirade on how OSHA rules changes would levy a $30,000+ fine for anything they thought was unsafe. A fine that would take half a year for them to pay off doing every shed in that time, without a penny for them.

      Or how about the lunacy of destroying the coal industry which will drive thousands out of work and increase energy costs. Or leasing to foreign countries the right to drill in the gulf while denying our companies the same privilege. The govt take on our drilling is equal to the profits of the oil companies. So if an oil company made $10 Bill profit the govt collected $10 Bill in taxes, royalties and leasing fees. How stupid are the people who support this admin.

          The biggest advantage of coal, especially right now with unemployment at 9.2% and probably rising, is JOBS. Just keep regulating and the unemployment will rise another .2 to .4% (just guessing) with the coal miners out of work. Do YOU want that? Please say no, as our energy costs will go up as well, even yours.

            You could shut down every factory in American using that argument. I don’t know anyone whose gotten sick from breathing our air, but I know a bunch of people who have lost their jobs in this economy. I vote for putting people back to work so that we can afford to invest in research that helps find better ways of improving our environment.

            I’ve been around a long time as well, and I’ve seen our air and water become much cleaner over the years, not the reverse. I also know that there is still room for further improvement, and that this improvement only comes when we have the money to spend on such things. You may have noticed that poor countries generally don’t have clean air and water because they can’t afford it. So, let’s make sure that the things we do to improve our society and environment don’t prevent our economy from growing because when we do, we simply remove the means that is necessary to do the kinds of things you are interested in. I think we lose sight of this very often, and “punish” our people and businesses to get them to improve their lives, products and processes. There is a better way.

            Just saw a piece on the news last night about the coal companies blowing the tops off the beautiful West Virginia mountains because it’s cost effective. Even people who need work are picketing about the destruction of that beautiful state. The companies say they will landscape and bring back the beauty when they’re done blowing it up. HA!

            Don’t believe all of the news reports you get on how companies are abusing the environment. I have first-hand experience where the media was only interested in reporting the “bad” news, especially if it fit their narrative.

            I am an engineer and worked for process companies for many years. I can tell you than none of the companies I worked for ever intentionally abused the environment. They all spent hundreds of thousands (in some cases millions) of dollars trying to avoid environmental problems. The last thing any of them wanted was a problem that got publicized. Everyone wants a clean and healthy environment.

            Surely you don’t want to shut down these companies, and have all of these people lose their jobs. We must work together to find a balance between environmental responsibility and economics.

      IIRC, $2.00 in cuts were promised for each $1.00 in tax relief. The cuts never came. Instead spending hit new highs. Reagan’s most crucial mistake involved the apparent loss of his VETO pen.

      to a separate fund. Pulled away from the General Fund
      and used exclusively for Social Security & Social Security
      only. Had it been left in it’s own fund from day one,we
      would’nt need to be extending retirement dates or worrying
      about the system going broke.
      I think a national recall of Congress may be needed.

            Government bonds right now are not worth the paper they are printed on. Would anyone on this site, besides Karolyn, Eddie and a few others, but government bonds? Nope, meaning they are worthless.

            Another thought i just had, with the talks about the debt limit and propsing a balanced budget amendment, no has even talked about how the US is going to pay off the 14.4 trillion debt. Even Rand Pauls, who i like, plan only wanted to produce a balanced budget in 8-10 years with no talk of paying off the national debt. WTF?

        Remember, it was the Democrats that took Social Security funds out of the separate trust fund and put them in the general fund so that money could be spent on anything the Congress wanted to spend it on. It’s been the Republicans who have argued that this money should be set aside and protected….but according to the Democrats it’s been the Republicans who have been trying to kill the program…..Can you say “propaganda”?

          Social Security is morally wrong, and it is Unconstitutional. Government has no Constitutional or moral right to take peoples’ money away for their own good. But having done that, the least any decent Government could do is repay that money to the victims from which it was taken. We should also work to end that immoral and Unconstitutional system for future generations.
          We can see the insidious nature of allowing Government to control our retirements by Obama’s recent statement about Social Security payments. Politicians are not to be trusted:

They own 1/3 of the land in the country (and they’re still buying) and many other assets that they could sell to meet their obligations. They could even offer us land in trade for what they owe us.

      Stop and think a minute. If you raise corporate taxes, who pays them? A corporation is required by its shareholders(read it as “my retirement/pension plans”) to show a profit. If their taxes are raised, two things happen:
      1. They raise prices to cover the cost
      2. Due to increased prices they are forced to sell at, they are now less competitive in the market place.

      You pay those tax increases in increased cost of the goods you buy from them. I only see tax increases on corps. as removing money from my pocket.

      As to billionaires, I remember Ronald Regan Paying in a couple Thou in taxes as he felt he should pay something, his tax accountants said he owed nothing. At the time, what he payed was less than what I did. I sure didn’t have his income or assets. The tax laws were written by people who depended on the wealthy to provide election coffers.

        Many of us have “…done for our country” now, we would like for those who have been elected to run our government to act like adults and do what is best for America. The debt ceiling MUST be raised ~ we have accrued this debt and now we must pay it THEN our elected “leaders??? HA!” need to trim back the expenditures of our country. Requiring a balanced budget does not strike me as reasonable nor responsible – it seems more like a cop out of responsibility. Contrary to political rhetoric, Social Security is not in dire straits and needs to remain strong. Medicare should not be weakened; tweeked but not diminished. Medicaid needs to more closely monitored along with Food Stamps, but I believe that a good strong government looks after her people. As for the wealthy not paying their fair share of taxes; that is disgraceful and should be changed. Big Corporations should not get tax breaks anymore than any other business – in fact, the small business owner probably needs more help than the large businesses. The profits that oil companies are making are excessive and that needs to be regulated and become more equitable. The playing field currently is tilted against the middle class and that will ruin our country if it is not balanced. We need statesmen in our Congress! We must find them, elect them and then support them. Big money currently runs our government and this must stop!

    I am so tired of blind allegiance to one party or the other, and I say this as a Republican – have been for life.
    The ‘revenue increase’ (or tax increase as we like to call it) is really just a reinstatement of the taxes Bush cut (which, if your honest, has attributed to the debt). It also incudes closing of some loopholes which has allowed companies like Bank of America to not pay any taxes in 2009. If you are making money by doing business in this great Country – support it by paying your taxes!
    Don’t tell me the cuts are there to create jobs – they haven’t in over a decade. Also, don’t tell me it’s because businesses were never ‘certain’ the cuts would stay in place – they were there for over 7 years under Bush and no new jobs were created (jobs were actually lost in the end). Let’s stop the rhetoric on both sides. Let’s cut spending and reinstate the taxes for businesses willing to do business in this country (Yes, I also own a business that would fall into this category). We claimed we needed certainty for the tax cuts but not for the debt ceiling crisis – we’re ok with this coming about again in six months? Where is the certainty for businesses in that? Give me a break.
    Neither side is right, neither side is wrong, but I do feel it is the “Tea Party’ type Republicans that are more to blame for the stalemate. I am REALLY tired of the Tea Party type people messing up my Republican party.
    Whether you like it or not, this crisis will hurt this Country – of course, that would allow the banks and credit cards to make more money, so we Republicans may be ok with that. Sorry, I am beggining to think my party no longer has the Country’s best interest in mind, and I am getting depressed about it.
    You can say the deadline is fake, but I will believe S&P and Moody’s over your analysis – they have better credentials than you. They say it will hurt. You are biased, and your type of disinformation can hurt this Country. We need to get on board with a compromise – it is what’s best for the Country. To hell with trying to win an election.

      The Bush admin did gain million of jobs and unemployment was under 5% the vast majority of his admin. To his credit, he sent economists to congress 11 times trying to get rid of the Comminity Reinvestment Act — the DEMS in lockstep blocked and defended Fannie and Freddie and the FHA rules. This act forced banks to make loans to people who logically could not pay them back. Remember the term Ninja loans (no job no income)and the only way to do such a loan was via subprime loans. A type of loan that should probably be outlawed. To Bush’s discredit, when the Dems successfully blocked reforming CRA and getting rid of the quotas – currently at 29%. Bush decided to tout the ownership society. The Dems built a time bomb – and then set it off when the economoy slowed down, you could get out of a subprime when housing prices were going up, but not when they go down. Along comes Chuck Schumer who leaks that a bank is failing ensuring the start of the bank crisis.

      Remember the bank crisis was precipitated by selling of Fannie Mae insured bundles of loans. In those bundles were CRA subprime loans that were virtually worthless – but insured by the tax payer.

      Now we are faced by the Dems demanding more credit card spending with phantom cuts that won’t take effect for 7 years – way past when Obama will be out of office. Ryan plan can get us there, cut cap and balance can get us there. Everything else just builds a bigger cliff to fall down from. Each year the Dem plan will add 1.5 Trillion or more to the debt, the supposed cuts will just trim the debt in 2021 from 27 Trillion to 24 Trillion. Before then, we will collapse. The Day interests rates catch up to 10-15% inflation of the last year and half – the debt will grow eponentially.

    First of all I’m sick and tired of this Washington Fire Sale over the debt ceiling and the budget. “Hurry and buy into it NOW! Aug 2nd is coming and we’re DOOMED if we don’t raise the debt ceiling!! Its NOW OR NEVER!!!” Nonsense. Another political tactic to try to stampede the AMerican people into backing lame legislation on both sides of the ailse. Boehner’s and Reid’s plan both suck because they do not cut enough, and they also kick a very large part of the goverment’s crazy spending right on down the road AGAIN. Estimates put the defitic by 2016 at close to 17 trillion dollars. WHY? Why is the United States in debt at all? Why does Washington even THINK that being in a hole that deep is anywhere near the neighborhood of acceptable? Why do the AMerican people? If the US has enough internal revenue being generated even in this terrible economy to service its debt, pay SSI and the military, vetrans and keep the government going, then the rest of the deficit has to be nothing but dead weight and needs to be gotten rid of. Its time for auterity measures in AMerica, starting with the Federal government, the politicians, and the unproductive citizens.

    Chip, your math is a little off. $3 billion off of $1.4 trillion equals $1.397 trillion. Sort of like using a thimble to drain the pond.

    Similarly, this Boehner budget plan that give the Dems another $2.4 trillion to squander requires $1.3 trillion in cuts over 10 years — maybe. The next Congress that convenes in 18 months has no obligation to live up to any deals made by this one, so the plan is basically worthless.

    We need to cut now, starting with putting every department and agency on a zero budgeting base. Force them all to justify every dime they’re demanding instead of allowing them to use last year’s expenditures and projecting up. Three items that could be cut immediately are the $1 trillion the manchild has set aside for his healthcare destruction, over $100 billion in unspent ‘stimulus’ funds, and the $48 billion for his harebrained high speed rail plan. If there was a pressing need for the latter, private enterpirse would be all over it like white on rice.

    Chip has it exactly right. Just today, an examination of the Democrats proposed taxes ‘on the rich’ shows some very disturbing facts, and they don’t want anyone knowing this!
    If they were to take EVERY CENT of income over $250,000 – from everyone in the USA, (not 35%, not 50% .. but 100% – certainly a ‘more than fair share’) – the money would NOT cover 1/2 of the country’s yearly debt. (This came from data provided by the CBO on total ‘over $250K incomes). So the ‘distributed approach’ is bovine excrement.

    Aug. 2 deadline? More bovine dung. The debt payments and military, Social Security, etc. are MORE than covered by our monthly ‘cash flow’. Any Politician not admitting this should be thrown out of office for lying to the country. That goes for the pretender in the White House too. And Geithner – well, nothing he has said or done over the past few years has been correct, and he lies daily about a ‘DEFAULT’. Send him to Iran, or some country we don’t like. Hell, I wouldn’t even send him to FRANCE, even though they might deserve him.
    The proposals by the President and many Democrats in the Senate are diversions. Lies and distortions to make the public focus on the BS and not the issues. They have been buying votes with taxpayer money for years, and amassed huge power and wealth feeding at the taxpayer trough. They want to keep it that way.
    But even worse, the vast majority of the 535 people who run this country are not intelligent. In fact, many are just plain dumb. The President thinks there are 57 States. The former Speaker of the House had to pass a Bill to find out what was in it, and she is now ‘saving the planet’ by opposing the Republicans! Incredible. Then we have my favorite Congressman Hank Johnson, who is working diligently to keep Guam from ‘tipping over’. If you have not watched this, please do. It might be the funniest thing you have seen this year!

    These are the people deciding on our Debt ceiling, how we will pay, and how to control our overspending. What a bunch. Oh yes.. yesterday Senator (Mr. Smarmy) Schumer, went on TV to read Democrat ‘talking points – very carefully prepared written statement’. But, it wasn’t about debt, spending, or the financial crisis. IT WAS AMOUT A MOVIE. I’m ashamed to admit I live in NY. Weiner, Shcumer…. wait.. Weiner was a Schumer/Durbin protege! Maybe Chuckie and His Housemate Dickie Durbin can explain how they chose Weiner for their Protege!

      Congressman Johnson has some serious health issues and should be removed from congress because of them, not waiting until election. His statement is funny yes, but we should not make fun of someone who is no longer a responsible person, he can’t help his condition.

      There should be some legislation that covers Mr. Johnson’s situation as he is not able to represent his constituents and should be removed from office.

    Yup, even I forgot about this one. Section 7 of Public Law 95-435 declares, “Beginning with fiscal year 1981, the total budget outlays of the Federal Government shall not exceed its receipts.”

    But liberal dogma has it that to hold this President to that standard (when admittedly we did NOT hold our own to it) would be Right Wing Racism, pure and simple.

I think the statement this writer has made really hits the mark “Curley, Larry and Moe would have led us better than the corrupt leaders we now have”.     That’s what Congress MUST be told over and over until they understand it. And if they don’t understand it … well, election is coming up next year. And ALL Representatives are on it. Further, one third of the Senators are as well as the President himself.

    If they can’t or won’t understand this, then we need to replace them with people who do. Preferably people that has to actually balance their budget at home was most of us have to do. Not someone who inherited millions from Mom and Dad and never had to balance a budget in his life.

    The point is that the reduction in debt for such a move is virtually ZERO!

    The current spending budget is 3,700 Billion which is even more than the year we did stimulus. Emergency spending is now “normal” spending to buy votes. The Dems say we can’t even cut 6 Billion from a budget of 3,700 Billion thats not even 1%. But they had no problem cutting 500 Billion from Medicare on their phoney budget for adding Obamacare.

    We need to show charts that show each budget proposal in terms of the total debt each year, the total revenue each year, the total spending each year – not imaginary savings 10 or 12 years out. Then people will see what is actually happening to them and our country.

    Reduce the spending by 10% each year from the current spending total, not baselines with 7% growth figured in, until spending drops down to revenue. Eliminate any agency that duplicates a state agency – Dept of Ed. (I am a retired Teacher), Natl Endoment for the Arts, Dept of Agriculture (states will manage it better anyway).

    Agree with your points, but get your math right! If the loss of corporate jet accelerated depreciation will net $3Billion next year, then it would take the deficit from $1.4B to $1.397B, not $1.1T. And, $300B is only 100 X $3B, not 1,000 X. And, $300B is not “nearly a third of the $1.4B deficit, it is 21.4%. These are substantial mistakes and each of them diminishes your message.

    I am one of those social security and VA vets who receive those benefits and I have received my ss on the 4th Wednesday of the month and will receive vets benefits on Monday the first day of the month. Also, I might add that I am a true conservative and will not under any circumstances vote for that so-called Pres of this great union. I do believe that he has broken the law with this guns to Mexico and should be impeached and for the illegal war he stsrted in Libya.             Everyone has contributed to the current financial problem, not just Democrats or Republicans. We’re all responsible, and we’ve all got to work together to solve the problem. Our country is out of money and out of time to fix the problem. We’re hanging on the cliff and about to fall. Unfortunately, most people don’t want to participate in fixing the problem, except to “volunteer” the other guy make all the sacrifices. That kind of thinking is inadequate, and likely to drive us right over the cliff. To fix the problem today, our government has to reduce spending by about 42% immediately to stop creating more debt, and then additional cuts each year until the debt gets paid down. By cuts, I mean less spending each year than the previous year, not less spending than someone would like to spend. This is a tough pill to swallow, but necessary. There is no easy answer, like eliminating waste and abuse or taxing the rich. We may do some of these things, but by themselves they are inadequate measures to fix the current problem. We’ve simply got to cut government spending significantly and soon. We also need to grow the economy as much as possible to increase revenue to the government so those additional yearly cuts aren’t anymore painful than necessary. So let’s take a hard look at all of those new, and well-intentioned regulations that we’re pushing on our businesses to be sure they aren’t actually constraining the economy and tax revenues.

      Theres a couple of problems with that idea, the basic one being the huge difference between Republican and Democratic philosophies. Another huge problem right now is that Obama will NOT entertain any budget deal that doesn’t take this whole problem off his plate until after the 2012 elections so his inaction and passing-the-buck to Biden and Reid doesn’t come back to haunt him at the polls. Another huge problem is that over 50% of Americans want the Feds to quit spending the country into economic armaggeddon and balance the budget and live within their means.

            Lets cut out the bonuses such as the ones the President gave his staff.

Even when we had money to put back, I still stayed on budget and put that money back gladly. We live within our means and are quite happy.

    Much is being made about the fabled “Democratic Majority, that Obama had during the first 2 years of his administration. The Republicans now have a majority in the House and are unable, so far. to pass their debt ceiling plan. This sorry situation occurs because neither Republicans, nor Democrats are required to support the basic positions of their party.

    This is almost unheard of in England where they have party discipline and where if you run under a party label, everyone knows you will vote the party line. So, you know how someone will vote no matter how dumb or ambitious they may otherwise be.

    Here, as Tip O’Neil observed: “All politics is local” so people vote for whatever will get them elected regardless of the party label they run on or what is good for the country.

    In this regard our system is flawed and party leadership is too often defied, whether it’s the President, or the Speaker of the House.

    We have manged to have gotten by with split government for ages, but now our beloved system of “Checks and Balances” is doing us in.

      I believe you are incorrect when you say the Republicans in the House can’t pass a bill to raise the debt ceiling. Actually, they sent a bipartisan bill to the Senate over a week ago that is also very popular with a majority of the American people according to polls, but Senator Reid tabled it and would not allow it to be debated or voted on in the Senate. Since then Republicans have been scrambling to try to construct other bills that the Democrats might be willing to consider.

      Many of us on the conservative side, think the Republicans might have done better had they simply stood their ground and demanded the Senate vote on the bill that’s already been sent over before engaging in any other negotiations.

        I agree with Judge Napolitano (Freedom Watch, Fox Business Network).
        They should not raise the debt ceiling, period. No bargains. That is the only way the spending is ever going to get cut. Most of the so-called Tea Partiers are caving to the concept of raising the debt ceiling if a Balanced Budget Amendment is started. But there is no guarantee that the States would approve it, and it would just open up a huge can of worms. And there’s no guarantee the Government would abide by it anyway. Look at how many other Constitutional requirements they have ignored over the years.
        I can’t help but wonder if they (Tea Party candidates) secretly just don’t have the huevos to get the job done, but are hoping their Balanced Budget requirement will fool the voters and get them re-elected.
        This is the one chance for the Tea-Party candidates to prove their mettle because without the House of Representatives approval, the Debt Limit can’t be raised, unlike the spending bill cuts that would have to get both houses and the president’s approval. If the Tea-Party candidates fall down on this one, we need to show no mercy come 2012.

    This is the best article I’ve seen to explain the whole problem of US finances. I don’t quite agree with part of it about raising taxes but I do realize that at sometime in the future higher taxes will be a necessity.

          The length of time a government has to fix their problem depends on how bad the problem is. The US government is rapidly running out of time, and the longer we wait, the more harsh the solution will have to be.

          Tongue in cheek, maybe we should “raise” tax rates like our politicians have “reduced” spending. That is, we can say that we were going to lower the tax rate by 20%, but since we only lowered it by 10%, we actually raised the tax rate by 10%….ha. Think that will fix the problem?

        Corporations don’t pay taxes. People pay taxes. When taxed, the Corporations just raise their prices, lower their wages, or move somewhere where they can make a profit. None of those outcomes are good for the citizens.

            You’re generally correct. That simply suggests to me that our tax code is screwed up when companies and individuals don’t pay at their tax rate. Some, often the largest and wealthiest, are taking advantage of the “loopholes” while the smallest and least wealthy may not. Since it’s the small businesses that create most of the new jobs in this country, we need to be sure we’re not penalizing them through our tax code and regulations. Also, it’s just ashame that our corporations have to use loopholes to get their tax rate down to competitive global levels, don’t you think?

            Government Leaders are very adept at figuring new imperceptible ways to extract money from the citizens. The Corporate Taxes are just one method they use. As I said, Corporations don’t pay taxes. People pay taxes.

            You’re right about the loopholes, George, but keep in mind that most of the so-called “loopholes” are just tax-deferral methods. The Government eventually gets its money from those.
            When Government takes money from the Corporations they are really just taking that money from the consumers. The thing that has made our country so wealthy is capital investment. That is the investment in machinery and other things that allows companies to become more productive. When Government diverts that money to themselves they just consume it at the expense of the country’s productivity.
            And while there are absolutely Crony Capitalists who work the system in their favor (think ADM for instance), we cannot expect Big Government to be the solution. The only real solution is to get Government out of the marketplace and give the power back to the consumers. Government if left involved can only be expected to aid their favorite Crony Capitalists at the expense of their customers, their smaller competitors, and the taxpayer.

        Illegals do not get Social Security though many pay into it. Illegals pay sales, alcohol, and cigarette taxes. They work for lots of freemarket conservative capitalists who love them for their cheap labor and the fact they you can give them zero benefits and get them to work overtime for straight time. Illegals never complain to OSHA about unsafe and unsanitary working conditions – another benefit to the free market capitalists who run sweat shops, dive restaurants, and unsafe factories. Nursing homes frequently hire illegal immmigrants. There they change the diapers, empty the bedpans, make the beds, mop the floors, shower, spoonfeed and shave seniors and veterans on Social Security pensions and veteran pensions. They do this for minimum wages and are glad to have the jobs. The owners of these nursing homes are multi-millionaires and they thank you for cutting their taxes. There are lots of things wrong with our system besides illegal immigrants. Parts of our economy couldn’t function without them. Of course seniors who paid into Social Security deserve to get their full benefits but the Tea Party conservatives want to cut Social Security, to save it they claim but I have my doubts and so do my parents who are both on Social Security.

          They collect Social Security!

          They get free medical and dental care!

          They get valid driver’s licenses for $250 under the table!

          Mark, I don’t know under what rock you are living under, but a number of illegals and non citizens get social security, some to the tune of $2600.00 per month and live in beautiful homes that are government furnished even down to the lawn care, all paid by social secrutiy (See the project in Tahoma Washington). If they would take everyone off social security that never paid in, there would be plenty to go on for years and of course out of the general fund. Where do you think most of the government revenues comes from, people working (not politicians) and they and their employers matching the funds. This brings up another point, all politicians should have to pay into the social security fund and draw their benefits and medical benefits when of the age from there.           Let me see if I can simplify the issue. Illegal immigrants are here “illegally”, so it’s difficult for me to justify giving them ANY benefit out of the federal treasury, especially when I know that in order to balance the federal budget today, Congress would have to cut spending by “42%”. In order to do that, NO federal program will escape the pain, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or Defense. Now, would you voluntarily “share” your parents Social Security and Medicare benefits with illegal immigrants when these kind of cuts are implemented? This is the kind of thinking we’re going to be forced to do in order to get our spending priorities in order. It won’t matter anymore how “needy” we think some people are. It’s going to come down to how much money we’re willing to take out of our pocket in reduced benefits to give to these “needy” people through other benefits.

According to the Dems though, .0025% is really significant. To people who aren’t stupid, not so much.

    The USPS is “not a government agency”? Seriously? It’s a rarity among government agencies because it is expected to generate its own revenue. But it can’t compete with private carriers – Fedex, UPS, DSL, etc. And the only reason it floats at all is because it is protected by a legal mandate that only the USPS can handle first class mail. If it lost first class mail, it would fold like a tent within two months. In other words, the USPS is a shining example that a government agency can’t compete with a private business that offers the same services.

I’m a white Republican, divorced for 38 years and I paid my mortgage off in 8.5 years by working two to three jobs at a time, never was late on utility payments and pay my charge accounts the moment I receive the3 email noticce that they are due. I paid into Social Security ssince I began working at 16 and until I had to stop working at nearly 71 due to failing health. I sold my home because I could no longer do the maintenance myself and set the proceeds aside to pay for the end-of-life costs which will be horrific. I DO take from the government dole – I get $16 in food stamps each month but after working as long as I did, I don’t think that’s bad. You seem to want to believe that you and those who think like you are the only upright citizens in this country, but you are dead wrong. Republicans work, Liberals take.

The only way the trust fund can get some cash to pay Social Security benefits is if the federal government draws it from general revenues or borrows the money.

    My opinion for the subterfuge and spin over the so-called debt crisis is that Obama needs the debt ceiling increased to meet his obligation to the people that really got him elected which are the unions, and he will also forgive the bankers that were bailed out. I feel I have exhausted every aspect of approaching the problems we face in a peaceful manner and without using any form of violence.

    Although this is true there were some details left out to slant to what some want to believe. Like many issues in Washington the whole debit ceiling is so much more complex than the article/s from both parties presents to us uninformed. I believe in the old joke “how do you know if a politician is lying? If his lips are moving. A good indicator is the fact the U.S. was warned by major rating originations that if the debit is not reduced the AAA rating will be reduced. What I have been reading is it is too late even raising the debit will not keep the rating from possible drop. The U.S. interest paid every month is 1 trillion dollars and is far more than what was presented. The U.S. has keep from default by taking large funds from other areas but that cannot continue. Already Weiss Rating has downgraded the U.S. to a C- just over Junk. U.S. bonds are dropping faster than I can type this and other countries are dumping US bonds for more secure things like precious metals. Furthermore, is our rating is dropped the interest rated payment above will go up dramatically. Oh, OPEC is looking at switching oil per barrel from U.S. currency to the gold backed Dinar. I do not know what will happen next few months but I’m certain it will not be good.

Why not get rid of Obamma in 2012 and just bring in George Sorros for Comander in chief. At least then we could see who is responsible. He wasn’t born here but that doesn’t seem to matter anymore.     Prominent Republican Senator Richard Shelby accused billionaire investor George Soros of hypocrisy on Wednesday for evading new hedge fund regulations he once publicly backed.

    Soros recently said he would return money to outsider investors and only manage his own family’s funds to escape the Securities and Exchange Commission’s new hedge fund adviser registration rules.

    “It appears that Mr. Soros talked up financial reform only to sell it short,” Shelby told Reuters in a statement. “Don’t be surprised to see his fellow Wall Street financiers follow suit. They’ll use their political clout and legal muscle to sidestep Dodd-Frank, while their smaller competitors and businesses take the hit.”

    By giving back investors’ money — which is a small slice of the roughly $25 billion Soros oversees — Soros is taking advantage of an exemption in a recently approved SEC rule required by the Dodd-Frank Act.

    The exemption allows family offices not only to avoid the registration requirements, but also to dodge a greater disclosure burden that requires big fund managers to turn over confidential data to help the SEC police systemic risk.

    A spokesman for Soros Fund Management declined to comment.

        I became educated about the many years of this mess and registered as an Independent. Believe you me, their are liberal progressives in the Republican party as well as in the Dems. The “Tea Party” was a way for very ordinary (or should I say extraordinary) people to put $$’s to elect ordinary (or should I say extraordinary) people to represent their ideas, frustrations and values. Many of those have been espoused by Ron Paul for many years and his congressional voting record supports it. No one else can say that. I would have to say, that he is given virtually no press coverage and little time or no time on the MSM nor FOX News. Even if he never gets elected president (or figure head, or should I say hood ornament?) he will be remembered in history as the father of the on-going movement for ordinary people to return to the principals of a constitutional republic. Doesn’t matter which party you are in. Both need to be held accountable to the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Period.

          I never bought Obama’s books, maybe I should have. As an editor I am aware that many of the books that were written by politicians actually were written by an editor. All the politician had to do was supply some information and the editor took it, compiled it, inserting words of his own. From reading what OB1 has posted and knowing the mannerisms of Obama, I would say Obama wrote his own books without the help of an editor. The sentence “I will stand with muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction” should open everyone’s eyes. I posted last night to Karolyn that if muslim-Americans truly gave up their muslim religion, why aren’t they in danger? It appears the majority are living peacefully here in the U.S. Why?             Harry Reid is calling it a filibuster that the Republicans won’t let it be voted on when good old Harry wants to change the rules and have an up or down vote that he knows will pass because they will vote along party lines. Harry Reid himslef wrote that for important votes there needs to be a 60 FOR vote to pass. Nope all of a sudden just when it suits him, Harry wants to change the rules.

He has shown himself to be anti-American, anti-Israeli, anti-Christian, pro-Muslim, an inveterate liar, inept (or seemingly so), narcisistic, a follower of Saul Alinski’s teachings for radicals, a chum of unrepentent domestic terrorists (Bill Ayers and Barnadine Dohrne), inconsistent in his standards from those when he was a Senator to those as President, a man of mystery concerning his birthplace and early citizenship, his questionable Connecticut social security number, the doubtful authenticity of his recently disclosed Birth Certificate, the refusal to release his early school records and college transcripts, his early travels and passport information, etc. Oh, and he flubbed the oath of office at his inauguration, such that he never took it openly before the American people! My question is: Why isn’t the Congress, specifically the House of Representatives looking into his background and preparing articles of impeachment? They will dither until this man destroys this country which is obviously his intention! For God sake, wake up America!

    I have just read the many, and diverse comments on this post. There is a lot of blame to go around. The Congress, the Senate, the President (?), the Supreme Court, Special interests, etc. But where does the blame really belong? I say it belongs to us. Why? Because we voted these people into office. We never demanded term limits; we never demanded accountability; We never demanded that our Representatives actually work for us. We supposedly elect these prople to office to represent us. When they fail to do that, do we demand a recall?
    We all brag about our freedom, in an unfree world. We all say how great we Americans are. Freedom is one thing, but it takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Many people have served and died for this Country. After all of this, we are looking for somebody to blame.
    We tolerated the way we were treated and never said boo! So who is to blame? If we all look in the mirror tonight, we will see who is to blame.

I Just waited another one of his interviews on the current challenges facing internal US problems, but also China, Russia, Iran, Mexico and many others. Utterly hopeful and brilliant. It is very long bust very worth watching. I kept thinking, what would it be like to have somebody like him as Secretary of State? Wow. P.S. Don’t be misled by the title. This is a very wise and insightful interview.

      DaveH, Thank you, again for another great post; learned so many things from your posts. There are so many things I would like to say about this video… When runners run a marathon, they encounter this occurrence called “the wall”. It is when even the most experienced, practiced runner “feels” like he can’t go on, that he or she has to stop and take a rest. But they KNOW from practicing, that if they go beyond “the wall”, past that feeling, they have a good chance of finishing, because they have been practicing, that the feeling of despair will pass. After a bit, a total renewal of energy comes and they finish the race on faith (experience & the experience of other runners), knowing they went beyond that feeling (which is physical too, by the way)and feel energized, tired and exhilarated! We run the race as if to win. Actually, thanks to all who post and share. It is really helping.

    Subject: On the federal level, what should and shouldn’t be funded.

    Dear Representative John Boehner;

    I submitted a seven page procedure on how to create a budget last month, none of you listened. Still everything I see, hear and read about deriving a sensible, realistic budget for this great free market, republic form of government country called the United States of America is completely out of touch with reality. What is being purposed just makes absolutely no sense to the average intelligent human. The mess we are currently in requires us to take a completely different approach than is currently being used in congress to establish a budget. We have to start with basics. There are only two categories of expenditures that have to be funded. Everything else is either what congress wants or just plain wishful thinking of what to through money away on ridiculous departments, agencies or programs. Right now we have to distinguish between what is absolutely, positively required to run our country and what is just a plain wishful thinking wants.

    It appears to be too late to fix the 2010/2011 budget. What was just past is really “Pathetic”. You only cut $38.5 Billion out of a $3.5 Trillion deficit spending spree, only a 1% reduction. I Repeat “Pathetic”! It was required by law to be completed by the end of September 2010. Well the liberal (socialist) 2009/2010 Congress has really missed the boat on performing their basic duties. Instead of working on a realistic budget, which is one of their core responsibilities, they were just wasting time and money, lots of money, on trying to have the government buying (no really taking control) of the private sector businesses using the current code word “stimulus”. The prime examples are healthcare, banking industry, auto industry, insurance industry, etc. Now, it is time to get started working on the 2011/2012 budget by first correcting all of the mistakes made over the last two years. Please finish your work on the new budget by the legal dead line of the end of September 2011. This year no emergency spending bills are allowed.

    Let us start this process by simply eliminating all of the duplicate government programs. This is really not simple, because just as an example we have 15 different agencies overseeing food-safety laws; more than 20 programs intended to help the homeless; over 80 programs for economic development and none of these misguided attempts are solving the perceived problems. The nonpartisan GAO estimates that there is between $100 and $200 billion dollars in wasteful duplicate spending just last year (2010) alone. This is one of the leading problems, with multiple departments and agencies with overlapping responsibilities and working on the same projects without any coordination. I think if congress really tried they could eliminate many useless departments, agencies and all the Czar positions that even their existence violates our Constitution or are just not necessary. This spending overlap must be eliminated before we can even start developing a budget. Once congress has handled the redundancies, we can start looking at what is really necessary and what is just plain wishful thinking wants. But first we have three major commitments that must be met:

    Social Security is a large committed portion of the budget. In 1935, the progressive (socialist) President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act, but to hide it from “We the People” he called it “The Federal Insurance Contributions Act” (FICA deduction on your paycheck). This contribution (camouflaged tax) was meant only to be short term, but you know the government, once a social program starts you can never get rid of it. The real problem started when progressive President Lyndon Johnson move the social security trust fund into the congressional general fund, congress has been spending this fund, which is forcibly collected from us taxpayers, and leaving IOU’s. Currently there is $2.611 Trillion dollars worth of IOU’s in place of real money in the social security fund. This is not expectable. Congress must fully fund Social Security and prevent any future raiding of the Social Security fund. Plus, two drains on these funds must be terminated, those who never paid into the fund and all illegal immigrants.

    President Lyndon Johnson pitched in 1965, Medicare as way to provide for the poor elderly with out calling it welfare. This time bomb called “Medicare” is in worse shape than Social Security. The funds collected for Medicare has been raided by Congress and spent on more useless social programs. This is a major commitment that must be met. The major problem is that both Social Security and Medicare are Ponzi schemes and have been for their inception. Medicaid is a totally different story. It should be reduced to a minimum to cover only the widows, orphans, disabled and those physically unable to work. It should not be used to cover illegal immigrants or the slothful.

    The only other major commitment that must be paid is the interest on the $14 Trillion Nation Debt. The number one thing here is never-ever raise the ‘Debt Ceiling’ and each year lower the debt by at least a ‘Billion Dollars’ until we are operating with a surplus. This will take about 14 years. Of course this means each annual budget must have a surplus each year to pay down the federal debt by a billion dollars. This will eliminate this foolish interest payment commitment. The debt clock must start counting down to zero, not up to infinity. The total elimination of deficit spending must be enforced with a balanced budget law. No more borrowing to fund worthless harmful social programs.

    Beyond the commitments there is only one real need. National Defense is the major need. This must be funded at the federal level. Defense has two main elements, border security (domestic national law enforcement) and the military (protect us from foreign enemies). Border Patrol, Customs and Immigration Services (ICE) plus the Coast Guard are the main federal domestic law enforcement agencies that must be funded. Just a comment: TSA is a joke and should have never been unionized. Also we must fund the “United States Armed Forces”. They are our defense against our foreign enemies. But, money can be saved here. Why do we still have military bases in Germany, Spain, Japan, Korea, and all over the world? World War II was over 65 years ago and Korean police action was over 55 years ago, these countries can and must now defend themselves. If our troops are not actively engaged in a conflict, bring them home, close the bases and save the money. We can no longer afford to be the worlds’ police force. But one major thing will have to be protected against and that is the Islamic, Muslim menace. They have been at war with the west (Christian thinking) for the last 1,400 years, whether we realize it or not, they do. The “Muslim Brotherhood” and “Council of American Islamic Relations” (CAIR) must join the rest of the Islamic organizations and be declared terrorist organizations and be outlawed in the United States.

    Our largest, no most monstrous, economic problem in this country is that we have to overcome is the addiction to government handouts. This nanny state mentality of waiting for the government of solve our problems must stop. This horrible addiction is worse than having a drug habit. Ever since the progressive movement started in 1913, the self-esteem and independents of the individuals of this great nation has been gradually destroyed. We have to start with correcting a lot of major mistakes that has been made by the previous administrations and the current one. Simply put, we are spending way too much money we do not have on programs that are NOT necessary. We must fund the commitments and needs first. Then prioritize the wants for funding if there are any funds remaining. Absolutely no deficit spending or borrowing to spend on any social program will be permitted.

    Now let us take a look at the most glaring problems with the current Federal Budget that must be corrected:

    The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) must be drastically reduced in size. They have grown so large that it is impossible to regulate Medicare and Medicaid. Fraud is running ramped in both organizations. Another main problem is with the FDA. It is getting out of its realm of responsibility and must be brought back under control. There is room for billions of dollars of savings in the operation and shrinkage of the HHS.

    Stop the destruction of the best healthcare system in the world just to insure a small percentage of people without medical insurance. Get them group insurance and leave the rest of us alone. The healthcare industry is 1/6th of the national economy, government take over will not be allowed. Repeal Obamacare!!! Sure there are a few things that need to be addressed, but a 2,700 page restructuring and destroying the entire industry is not the answer. This abomination of a job killing healthcare law has so many faults the only solution is to cancel it. Things like cutting $523 billion dollars from our seniors Medicare program, expanding Medicaid, saddling the states with 1099 unfunded mandates, instead of shrinking the IRS it adds more than 11,000 new positions, hidden in this new law is illegally imbedded $103 Billion of spending (this must be eliminated), plus hundreds of other destructive measures which has absolutely nothing to do with medical care. Medical cost was the main problem. So, work on cost. Get the government out of the health industry and let the private sector free market system work. Install tort reform to stop frivolous malpractice law suites, by instituting loser pays laws and lower the cost of malpractice insurance thereby lowering healthcare cost.

    While on the medical service subject, we must abolish the “Planned Parenthood” organization. The only service it provides is government paid for abortions. During 2010 this organization performed an abortion every 95 seconds. All other medical procedures they are not qualified to perform. Therefore, all they do is refer the patients to other doctors, clinics or hospitals. They are not even qualified to perform a mammogram.

    Eliminate all the TARP programs. Stop and prevent further taking control of private business. This betrays and is continuing to betray the public trust when they throw hundreds of Billions even Trillions of dollars away by bailing out (actually taking control over) the insurance, banking, medical, real estate, auto, etc. industries. By dictionary definition this is a blatant act of treason. This is a big step toward turning our country into an oppressive socialistic state.

    Stop subsidizing all of these sub-industry programs. Mainly the so called “Green Jobs”. Let the free market system work. If a program cannot make a profit, let it fail. A business must stand on its’ own. Let’s take a look at just one example of wasting billions of tax payer dollars. “Ethanol” Now here is a real idiot of an idea. It requires 1½ times more energy to produce Ethanol than there is energy in Ethanol. That is why it is so heavily subsidized. On its own it is a total failure, plus increases the cost of food and transportation. Plus, stop paying farmers to not grow food. Let the fair market handle what crops farmers grow. If the government would get out of the way and let our farmers grow food, we can feed the world. No more world hunger.

    While we are in the energy arena, let us stop the Progressives (Liberals) in Congress and the Eco-idiots from blocking a common sense energy policy. Saudi Arabia has stated that it is working toward raising the price of a barrel of oil to $300. The first thing we need to do is recover oil and natural gas from where ever we can, uncapped all of the existing oil and natural gas wells in Texas, Oklahoma and California for a fast supply of fuel. Then start drilling in Alaska, offshore and onshore as fast as we can. We have more oil under the continental United States than the rest of the world put together, why are we not getting it?!? This will reduce or stop importing oil from and giving money to our enemies, this is funding Islamic and Muslim terrorists. Continuing on energy, new refineries are needed and more nuclear power plants must be built immediately by private industry not the government. All that is needed is for the wacko environmentalist; the wildly misguided ‘Environmental Protection Agency’ (EPA); and the inefficient ‘Department of Energy’ to just eliminate all of their disruptive regulations and get out of the way. Actually the Department of Energy should be abolished. Ever sense their inception all they have done is get into the way of producing energy in this country. While we are on the subject of energy, “Cap and Trade” comes to mind. This massive energy tax must never be allowed to go into effect. It is based on politically driven Eco-idiots and greedy scammers who will get rich selling thin air. All of the hype about this Global Warming Hoax is based on political science not physical science. Carbon Dioxide is NOT a pollutant, it is a required rare gas used by plants to produce the oxygen that we need to breath. Plus, congress must stop the EPA from going around them and instituting this ridiculous carbon tax scam. Plus, all of the renewable energy (wind, solar, bio, ethanol, etc.) subsidizing must stop immediately. If a project can not stand on its own and make a profit let it fail, in other words let the free market system work.

    Welfare System needs a major overhauling. It’s become a generational way of life for millions of people and has destroyed their self esteem. “Put them to work or they don’t get paid or eat!” Stop rewarding the slothful. Eliminate the disease of the nanny state mentality started by the progressive movement in 1913 and continuing today. All government antipoverty programs have only produced more poverty. Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for welfare, but is limited to the disabled, widowed, orphaned and the members of society that can’t work, plus it cuts into the charity of the churches. Welfare payments should never go to anyone who has entered this country and is living here illegally. Plus, all welfare recipients must pass a drug test before they receive any sustenance. This also goes for Medicaid. This forced redistribution of wealth under the guise of social justice is a major step toward a socialist, repressive and nanny state government. This has never been successful, just look at history. With the current economic situation in this country, we can not afford to continue wasting billions of dollars on programs that do not work.

    The Constitution limits the Federal Government and only allows it to operate in 18 areas of responsibility which they have far exceeded. The general size of the federal government has grown way too large. Last September (2010) the number of public (government) employees past the number of workers in the private sector. This is not good, it means we are well on our way to becoming a Socialist nation. With the current economic climate we can not afford to support the government we have, it is way too expensive. Therefore, we must cut the number of government (public) employees in half; cut departments, agencies, all czar positions; reduce and/or freeze all government salaries (this includes congress); collect delinquent taxes from federal employees; limit travel and the use of federal vehicles for all federal employees (includes congress); in other words they must live within their means. Another thing is eliminate the parasite of collective bargaining public unions. The average salary of public employees is twice that of employees in the private sector with the same responsibilities. Unions in the private sector are acceptable, because they are negotiating for a portion of the profits of a company. But in the pubic sector collective bargaining unions must be eliminated, because they are negotiating for more of our tax dollars. There are 22 states that are “Right to Work” states. The right to work laws should be made national.

    The ‘Department of the Interior’ must be brought under control. Currently the federal government (Department of the Interior) owns three out of every 10 acres of land in the United States. They have a multibillion dollar backlog in maintenance on this public land. The Department of the Interior has long range plans to purchase 1.5 million more acres for $1.8 Billion. In the near term they want to spend $900 million to buy more land. They cannot maintain the federal land we currently own. They must sell all federal real estate that is not currently in use, thereby cutting their bloated expenditures.

    While we are discussing the ‘Department of the Interior’, let’s have a look at the ridiculous ‘Endangered Species Program’ administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under their preview. The polar bears are flourishing, global warming is a hoax. The protection of the flourishing spotted owl has done major damage to the logging industry. The delta smelt in the San Joaquin valley is not even native to the region; let the farmers have the water to grow food that is drastically needed around the world. What is this stupid move to make the dunes sagebrush lizard and endangered species with no proof it is diminishing and trying to restrict the cattle industry and the production of oil is west Texas. All of this is just some of the examples of federal government regulations interfering with the lively hood and infringing in the lives of the average U.S. citizens. This must stop immediately.

    We need to reign in and drastically reduce the size of the FCC. They are getting into areas that are not in their realm of responsibility, plus they have become way too large and expensive to maintain. While we are on the subject of communication both NPR and PBS must not receive any more federal funds. They are a national embarrassment and they are just another wasteful example of unnecessary government subsidies.

    The federal government must get out of the education business, it is the states responsibility. Unfunded federal laws, regulations and mandates by the Federal Department of Education are destroying this countries education system. Eliminate the “National Education Administration” (NEA – teachers union). They are the problem, not the solution. Before the NEA was formed (about 20 years ago) here in Texas we had a ratio of 5 teachers for every administrator, now the ratio is one to one and the administrators salaries are at least twice that of the teachers. We can fund two teachers for every administrator we eliminate. As stated above, the NEA and The Federal Department of Education are destroying our education system and are far too expensive to even let them continue to exist. Return the responsibility of education to the local and state authorities where it belongs.

    Fannie May and Freddie Mac were one of the major contributors to the economic melt down. They must be eliminated. While on this subject we must audit the Federal Reserve Bank (The FED) to find out were all of the trillions of dollars went in the bail outs. Then dismantle the FED and bring the control of our money supply and national credit interest rate back under the control of Congress, which is the way it is specified in the Constitution. The control of inflation, our entire monetary system and supply of our money should have never been subcontracted to a private unaccountable company (The Federal Reserve Bank).

    Until we get our national debt paid off we must eliminate all funding to non essential domestic organizations. Here are just a few examples of them: Endowment for the Arts and Humanities; ACORN; IRS; HUD; Planned Parenthood; all special interest so called ear marks; and any thing that cost money and is not absolutely necessary to run the country should be eliminated.

    Areas in foreign affair will save billions of dollars need to be addressed as well:

    The UNITED NATIONS has become a worthless social club. Plus, we (the United States) get a very negative return on our investment. We pay $1.2 billion a year which is 41% of the United Nations’ operating budget and less than 1% of the 192 members vote with the United States on any issue. This is definitely a waste of our taxpayers’ money. We must totally stop funding and evict all influence of the United Nations out of our country. Their “ONE WORLD Government Agenda” (agenda 21, for example); the “United Nations (Marxist) Sea Treaty” (we lose control of all off shore oil); the “United Nations Small Arms Treaty” (It makes it against the law to own a fire arm); and the United Nations Convention on the “Rights of the Child Treaty” (eliminates all parents rights) all are extremely detrimental to maintaining the sovereignty of the United State of America. Therefore, save the money and boycott the United Nations.

    The State Department is way too expensive to be maintained. They need to stop all FOREIGN AID until our economy is restored, then evaluate each country as to their support of United States interests as to whether they deserve our aid. There are 192 countries, we send aid to 150 of them and most of them hate us, mainly the Islamic (Muslim) terrorist supporting nations. We are supporting terrorism with our foreign aid which is just plain wrong. By cutting out this it will save us billions of dollars a year. Name one country that has improved their life style or way of living since we started sending them aid. Only the corrupt leaders get the money, it never helps their poor that really have need of the aid.

    Still on the responsibilities of the State Department, we need to readdress all TRADE AGREEMENTS or TREATIES. All of them are lopsided and not in our favor. We need to cancel all trade agreements and start new negotiations from scratch keeping the United States interests in mind this time. Let us calculate what it costs to manufacture a product in the United States and charge a duty or tariff to make the imported equivalent product cost, plus 10% more. This in the short term will raise funds from the tariffs and in the long term it will bring manufacturing back on shore creating jobs. The people who fill these jobs will pay taxes which will increase revenue. This will help fund the federal budget.

    In conclusion, here is a short summary. First eliminate all redundancy; drastically reduce the size of the federal government (at least cut it in half); Eliminate nonessential cabinet level departments of Education, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Labor and Agriculture; drastically reduce the size and scope of all other departments (especially State, Treasury, Commerce, Interior, Transportation and Defense); eliminate all Czar posts; eliminate all government subsidies; fund our commitments; de-fund the United Nations; cut off all foreign aid; redo all trade agreements and fund only our real needs and pay off our national debt. Deficit spending will never be allowed from this point on and never-ever raise the debt ceiling. If there are any funds remaining, then start prioritizing the wants to be funded at a much reduced rate.

    In closing, never compromise your core small federal government, free market economy, Judeo-Christian principles and for heaven sakes when putting the 2011/2012 budget together please use just a little bit of common sense. Look at each essential function and fund what it really cost to perform that function, not the inflated price we are currently paying for that job. Yea, Yea, I know it is hard to imagine Washington DC as having any politicians with any common since.

      I feel sorry for small businesses, but bankers and their Asset-Grabbing Bureaucrats are reinventing their techniques. Small businesses are trying to survive, make a living and reserve some cash for a rainy day and at the same time they create jobs.

      The Democratic Senate and Obama want a tax increase and to raise the debt ceiling. OBAMA & THE SENATE HAVE SAID THEY WILL NOT GO ALONG WITH ANY DEAL IF THERE IS NO INCREASE IN THE DEBT CEILING. I know they will accept the GOP’s DEAL AT THE LAST POSSIBLE MINUTE. They’re playing games right now, so the GOP will get them what they want.

      Businessmen say “A large percentage of small businesses are run as DBA’s and Sub-chapter S corporations and are taxed as part of the owner’s personal income. They report large personal incomes but are really small businesses. They are small businesses that create jobs and also the rich that liberals hate.”

        Senator Reid (D), Democrats and Eric Cantor (R ) are hurrying to sign off on the “Debt Deal” today before Republicans and Boehner try to stop it again.
        According to Democratic and Republican sources, here’re the key elements of the “Debt Deal”:
        · A debt ceiling increase of up to $2.1 to $2.4 trillion (depending on the size of the spending cuts agreed to in the final deal).
        · They have now agreed to spending cuts of roughly $1.2 trillion over 10 years.
        · The formation of a special Congressional committee to recommend further deficit reduction of up to $1.6 trillion (whatever it takes to add up to the total of the debt ceiling increase). This deficit reduction could take the form of spending cuts, tax increases or both.
        · The special committee must make recommendations by late November (before Congress’ Thanksgiving recess).
        · If Congress does not approve those cuts by December 23, automatic across-the-board cuts go into effect, including cuts to Defense and Medicare. This “trigger” is designed to force action on the deficit reduction committee’s recommendations by making the alternative painful to both Democrats and Republicans.
        A vote, in both the House and Senate, on a balanced budget amendment.

I could see the tremendous amount of thought, research and effort that went into it’s creation. I felt very privileged to read it. The responses to your post were stunning to me, but I learned from them as well. It seems to me, most people can only handle small bites of of a fabulous meal at a time right now; they’re overwhelmed, frightened, worried and anxious.
      I love your ideas. Sounds like a plan to me (to put it mildly). I think you should run for congress. Texas is fortunate to have one such as you. (Makes me want to move to Texas!)

People only pay taxes into SS&Medicare,up to $106,800,meaning if one makes 214.000 Dollars,they only pay on half their earnings-BUT they cllect a BIGGER check,simply because they DO make lots of money,and its based on how much you made,in a certin period of time.That means everybody making less, pays taxes on 100% of what they make.Raising the FICA tax to cover 198,00dollars of income,would set SS right for 75 Years! The one other point I want to say,is that if they would adopt the plan John Boehner put out,and a so-called”Balanced Budget”was REQUIRED to raise the debt ceiling,in six months-there is ONLY ONE WAY they could” balance” it,and that IS BY SLASHING SOC.SEC.,MEDICARE AND MEDICAID!(about 30%!) That is fact,and the Dems and President Obama are TRYING TO KEEP THAT FROM HAPPENING.

      You have bought into the self-serving propaganda of the administration. Social Security payments are in no danger unless they purposely put them in danger. There are many ways to reduce the deficit spending without stiffing the Social Security recipients. All they need do is cut Federal Spending to the 2003 level, and the budget would be balanced.
      And they are further deluding you when they convince you that the Government can take care of us. Primarily they are taking care of themselves with our money. They dole just enough out to buy votes.
      If you won’t take care of yourself, don’t think for a minute that anybody in the Government cares enough to take care of you.

    A happy and proud moment for this nation will bring home our troops. They are our great assets. I was never for our presense in Iraq and we have lost loved ones in a war of choice. The death of bin Laden should allow our troops to leave Afghansitan. We need our infrastructure repaired and updated and out troops could do those jobs, refocus our war spending to take care of our problems. Revenues would increase because of taxes paid to the workers , homes bought, and products purchased and our economy would grow. We need to restructure our taxes. We can not continue pulling apart this great nation. Love it or leave it.

Here’s just a taste of his real priorities… where he’s been spending our money and what our kids and grandkids will be expected to repay for decades to come:


    $63 billion – US Global Health Initiative.

    $665.7 million – International Family Planning & Reproductive Health Programs.

    $1 billion – to Mexico so that they can drill in the Gulf (while Obama caused 23,000 Americans to lose their jobs because of his ban on US drilling in the Gulf).

    $2 billion – to Brazil for OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING!!!!

    $147.3 million – US pays Brazil each year in cotton subsidies to keep its mouth shut.

    $30 billion – of the $100 billion per year for UN Climate Change Policy; the UN admitted global warming is about wealth redistribution, not climate change policy.

    $430 billion from TARP that Timothy Geitner stated will be recovered by January 2011 – of which the Fed spent $350 billion in taxpayer funds to save 35 foreign banks.

    $8 billion – US pays to IMF for Greece Bailout.

    $1.9 billion – International Agriculture Programs.

    $54.1 billion – USAID to other countries for FY 2011 – President Obama already sent $173.5 billion for international/foreign assistance ($90.6 billion in 2010 – a 60% increase compared to FY 2008; $82.9 billion in 2009 – a 47% increase compared to FY 2008).

    $5.96 million – U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation 2010 Awards (i.e. mosque restoration overseas). NOTE: Section 205.1(d) of title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations prohibits USAID funds from being used for the rehabilitation of structures to the extent that those structures are used for “inherently religious activities.”


    $80 billion to Apollo Alliance (socialist/communist George Soros group) to expand community agitation; see this video too.

    $422 million – Funding for Public Broadcasting/NPR – a private company that doesn’t need taxpayer funds.

    $161 million – NEH anti-American group which targets our military.


    $44 billion – This represents a 28% pay increase for Fed employees (Fed pay increased 36.9% since 2000 while private worker’s pay increased only 8.8%.)

    $148 billion – loaned to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – these are government operated organizations that are taking control of 90%+ of U.S. home mortgages, and these are the organizations who contributed to the housing meltdown.

    $1.416 billion – Serve America Act FY 2011 to recruit our children at school and get them into “volunteerism” (i.e. recruit and train community agitators).

    $1 billion – Dead people to whom our Federal government sends our money.

    $1.4 billion – FDA to take over our food supply and hire 17,000 more taxpayer-funded government employees.

    $400 million – Michelle Obama’s Food Deserts to open government food stores that are closer to urban areas to save residents the 5 extra minutes of driving time that it takes to get to their existing, privately owned store.


    $1.741 billion – INCREASE for “critical efficiency and renewables programs” – this is just the amount of increase to their existing budget.

    $2.4 billion – “clean tech” for energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, a $2.287 billion increase from $113 million in the previous budget [ID:nN01180827].

    $6 billion – clean energy technologies.

    $535 million – Global warming money for a politically-connected private company, Solyndra, to lay off workers and build a new plant.

    $611.4 million – Bureau of Labor Statistics to gather data on ‘green jobs.’

    $123 million – DoE’s wind program, a $43 million increase over current spending.

    $300 million – the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, or ARPA-E.

    $880 Billion is being spent on these items alone in 2011. Are these discretionary expenditures worthy of collapsing America’s economy at a time when we need to reign in spending? If Obama continues to refuse to cut spending, that’s just what will happen.

    Don’t be fooled by the propaganda coming from Obama and his regime – to include his pals. They’re doing George Soros’ bidding. If you haven’t heard, Soros wants a ‘managed decline’ of our dollar and an economic collapse is exactly what he wants. Obama’s actions are clearly leading to what Soros wants.

    It’s dangerous to raise the debt ceiling without significant cuts and caps on Obama’s spending and a legislative balanced-budget amendment to prevent future Presidents from doing what Obama’s doing to America.

Obama made the Top Ten List of Corrupt Politicians in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, with “Dishonorable Mention” on the 2006 List. Without any doubt, Obama is a Communist.

    The 111th Congress’ US House of Representatives was led by a majority of Progressives (i.e., documented Socialists and Communists) and most remain in the 112th Congress. Its Majority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, was also a Progressive-Socialist-Communist who made the Top Ten List of Corrupt politicians in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

    Of the 435 House members, at least 80 were Progressive (Socialist-Communist) Democrats, about 59 are members of the New Democrat Coalition, and about 52 are Blue Dog Democrats. Some identified as non-Progressive Democrats were actually socialists bringing the total to over 100.

    As CBS News reported, Progressives follow Mao (NBC report example: Congressman Bobby Rush).

    Progressives attempted to enter and refocus our US census and voting process via ACORN. Many of these socialist/communist US House of Representatives members travel to Communist Cuba frequently and meet with the Castro brothers and associates of a US-convicted Cuban spy ring.

    They have changed US laws to allow enable money transfer, travel and better communications with Communist Cuba and many openly praise mass murderers Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. They are working to make it easier for illegal immigrants to enter our country so they can expand their control of America via labor unions.

    The goal is transforming tens of millions of illegal aliens into communist union members who will vote as a block and increase communist transition funding via annual union dues. Their policies are not “freedom of religion”, but rather “no religion”.

    Progressive-Socialist-Communists control the US Senate. In both Houses of Congress, RINOs (Republicans who behave like Socialists or who are Communist Sleeper Cells) aid Democrat and Independent Socialists.

    the president and the senate especially want unrestricted welfare to illegal alliens, and welfare receipiants, and low income people so their votes will be cast to obama and the senate dems. regardless of the restriction of illegal aliens to vote. I am not a dem nor a republican. I am closer to a libertatian, but in reality I am a conatitionalist. If people would read the constitution and the federalist papers as to what our founding fathers wanted I believe that we would have a very large new party, but the newspapers and the media would ignore them or try to make them look like flakes. the only problem is their are many people who do not know what the constitution means and that it would over take all parties, especially if the tea party would read the same books and decide that would be a great launch pad for the retaking of america from the liberals, democrats, and the conseratives who think they know what the constitution is and means but ignore the facts that would lead them to a better way to turn this country around.

    Well the jack azzes in Washington and the news Media , Including Fox have done an awesome job of keeping us all fearful & focused on the debt problem, while The Marxist administration continues to destroy what’s left of the America._Frankly I’m pretty sic and tired of hearing it.
    I get it, that the TPTB are trying to collaspe the dollar. AND, I get it, that when you pump money into an economy, its a face lift that doesn’t last, if you will__still I’m further amazed that Washington continues to try convince us, that we are in dyer straights over money, when the printing presses run whenever the Prez or his cohorts tell it too__Just a thought….Put the Currency in states hands, quite Honestly, they can’t do any worse than Bam Bam and his Band of Merry thieves!

    Lie #2 stiffing senior ~ True again! That most likely won’t happen, even in uncharted waters. But! It’s effective and most apropos if you stop to consider the “Death Camps” GOP proponents have served up to frighten seniors. So which one is the biggest whopper of the two? ~ Seniors hate uncharted waters and the unknown. Can’t say I blame them, all things considered.

    Lie #3 default, no money ~ True again! But Chip, I don’t know who stated that lie first, but I don’t believe it was “O”, but some people that thinks cutting spending a very good idea. And while it’s true the Fed is holding more then just pocket lint today it’s sees a crisis in the making, much like Ronnie did when he asked for the debit limit to be raised 17 times during his 8 year tenure.

    Lie #4 It’s all the Republicans fault; Well “O” didn’t say that lie. He placed the blame squarely on the shoulders of America’s government. Now if you wish to exclude the Republican party from American government that’s up to you, a sound argument I’d enjoy listening too.

    If these are your “Big Four” Chip, I see room for promising resolve and resolution and most willing to met you in the middle.

    It is class warfare when you take food off of people tables and offer it to someone “entitled” by virtue of political power. People that have “invested’ their life work into a system and now rather the confess to our mistakes and make equatable corrections we wish to side with the top 2 % of Americans and renege on the most basic of commitments to the American people?

    But I offer to you we are a sick nation of people with the way we look at retirement today . Retirement “should be” for people that can no longer endure the riggers of an 8 hour day. Too many are hungry for retirement, yearn for it, simple because they have vested a mere 20 years. ~ I’ve rose bushes and cloths older then that. Retire should be a matter of pending necessity and not simply a magic number. While at the same time, someone getting their money “BACK” I fail to see it as an “entitlement” but simple a “Return”

    I believe people are at their best being engaged and active. We have too many just sitting today, Desperadoes waiting for a slow moving train. They’re brains turning to puddy while they stalk the mailman and watch day time TV. ~ Just how many times can a person watch “The Waltons” or the “Andy Griffin Show” or Dr. Phil?

    The federal tax code and social security is in serious need of restructuring in America today. It favor the two extremes, the poor and the wealthy AND the people that have been clever little hobbits and worked a flawed system.

    It’s not in “hate” I say these thing,~ but simple factual observation. I harbor no hate or envy but wish to see equitable “fairness” for all Americans that have invested and applied themselves to a lifetime of committed service. We can, we should, we will provide for those that simple can’t anymore. That should come as a comfort to every American and should not looked on it as a burden but a honored commitment and a blessing.

    the gop should stop these bolsheviks in their tracks by voting no on this budget bill, call barrys bluff and believe me it’s nothing but bluff. with leaders like boehner and mcconnell i don;t think we stand a chance. lets see barry stop the ss checks and military pay, it won’t happen.

    Anyone familiar with Panetta’s record as a Congressman in the 1980s knows that Panetta is both a leftist and markedly hostile towards the US military establishment.

    Panetta has no military backgound. he has a Budget background. He was once head of the Office of Budget Management.

    What does this suggest to you?

    Was Panetta specifically chosen to oversee large cuts in the US defense budget?

    At a time when the US is facing Islamic terrorism, an increasingly belligerent China, a resurgent Russia, and an ongoing “red tide” in Latin America, has Leon Panetta been commissioned to take a scythe to the US Defense budget?

    Mark Rudd predicted this possibility just before the 2008 election.

    Mark Rudd is a former leader of the terrorist Weather Underground. In 2006, he joined with a whole bunch of communists and socialists, including his old comrades and Presidential pals Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn to found an activist umbrella organization – the Movement for a Democratic Society. In 2008, that organization begat Progressives for Obama, which Mark Rudd happily endorsed.

    Mark Rudd is in a unique position to understand Obama’s long term strategy.

    Mark Rudd wrote this analysis just after the 2008 elections. Note what Rudd says about defense:

    Obama is a very strategic thinker. He knew precisely what it would take to get elected and didn’t blow it. He used community organizing methods to mobilize a base consisting of many people who had never voted before or who regularly don’t vote….But he also knew that what he said had to basically play to the center to not be run over by the press, the Republicans, scare centrist and cross-over voters away. He made it.

    So he has a narrow mandate for change, without any direction specified. What he’s doing now is moving on the most popular issues — the environment, health care, and the economy. He’ll be progressive on the environment because that has broad popular support; health care will be extended to children, then made universal, but the medical, pharmaceutical, and insurance corporations will stay in place, perhaps yielding some power; the economic agenda will stress stimulation from the bottom sometimes and handouts to the top at other times. It will be pragmatic…

    And I agree with this strategy. Anything else will court sure defeat. Move on the stuff you can to a small but significant extent, gain support and confidence. Leave the military alone because they’re way too powerful. For now, until enough momentum is raised. By the second or third year of this recession, when stimulus is needed at the bottom, people may begin to discuss cutting the military budget if security is being increased through diplomacy and application of nascent international law.

    Obama plays basketball. I’m not much of an athlete, barely know the game, but one thing I do know is that you have to be able to look like you’re doing one thing but do another. That’s why all these conservative appointments are important: the strategy is feint to the right, move left. Any other strategy invites sure defeat. It would be stupid to do otherwise in this environment…

    By the second or third year of this recession, when stimulus is needed at the bottom, people may begin to discuss cutting the military budget…

    That, in my opinion sums up what this great game is all about. America’s enemies know that America can only be destroyed if its military is humbled, heavily reduced in size and capability.

    Americans will only accept the gutting of their military capability, if the economy is so fragile and prospects so dire, that they will be willing to sacrifice national security to ease the economic pain.

    In the last two years the Obama Administration has done everything it could to indebt and impoverish America and Americans.

    Now it is time for the socialists to harvest the fruits of their efforts.

    Leon Panetta, a leftist, with ties to communists, socialists and one degree of separation from several Soviet and/or Chines agents, may well turn out to be the Grim Reaper.

    They are all politicians. That means they are all lawyers. All lawyers lie to get their way. That is what they do. Until we make it illegal for lawyers to be politicians, we will continually have this problem. Ever since FDR came up with the idea that he could blatantly lie and get his way, it has become a mass way in politics. Not to say they didnt tell lies before that, he just took it to a new level, and lets just say, Bill Clinton mastered it. This clown tries to, but he isnt very good at it, as he can only come up with what is written on his telestrator, as he has proven time and time again, he has no leadership skills what so ever. He is just their facepiece. Thats its.

    Face piece or puppet its all the same. Yes, Clinton was a master as was Bush Jr. I really don’t think the Elite wanted Obama. I think they were all set for Hillary or McCain. Either that or Obama was a great Liar during the campaign when he claimed he was going to get us out of N.A.F.T.A. AND G.A.T.T. and the wars. He has done nothing of the sort so he is either a Liar or he was told he would be killed if he did not do as ordered.
