Lawmakers Consider Updating Privacy Laws To Protect Online Users

April 14, 2011 by

Lawmakers consider updating privacy laws to protect online usersThe California Senate Judiciary Committee has approved legislation that would require government agencies to acquire a warrant before accessing consumers' reading records.

According to the Central Valley Business Times, the State Senate bill is designed to update California's privacy law to protect online shoppers. The measure is sponsored by State Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) and supported by the California Affiliates of the American Civil Liberties Union, Electric Frontier Foundation and Google.

Considering that digital books now outsell paperbacks, supporters of the legislation say that it is necessary to update the law to meet 21st century standards.

"Individuals should be free to buy books without fear of government intrusion and witch hunts," said Yee, quoted by the news source. "If law enforcement has reason to suspect wrongdoing, they can obtain a warrant for such information."

At the Federal level, lawmakers are considering an amendment to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act that would grant more privacy to mobile and cloud computing users. Last week, the United States Justice Department warned that updating the law would hinder police investigations, according to

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) also opposes the amendment, saying that it could limit law enforcement's ability to "catch criminals and terrorists who use electronic communication," quoted by the media outlet.

I believe that the TSA agents at the airport need probable cause to pull you from a line and radiate you or if you object molest you. No only do they need probable cause to pull you from the line (how dangerous is a six year old child?), they need a warrant and you should have access to your lawyer before they lay one hand on you. People, they are prepping you the way the Nazi’s did in the 30′s…don’t be a fool. There is no way in hadies that I would allow someone to fondle my granddaughter…I would be arrested on the spot…and so be it…it is time to contact your congressmen because the Patriot Act comes up again for a vote to continue it in about two months, and under this act is the TSA. The terrorists have moved on…they are looking for more original ways to commit terror because they know that hijacking a plane just ain’t agonna get it anymore. This is all a farce in “keeping us safe”…want to keep us safe, let us have a permit to carry on the plane…nothing safer than that.

Great. Another law by an honest elected official who has our best interests at heart to protect us. Wonder how much he will make from it if it passes?

If you haven’t figured it out yet, these unnecessary laws always put money into the politicians pocket…and tyranny into our lives.

The Idea of the United States Faithfulness, To what is still the Most Bought Book and Most Heard about maybe not read yet heard by many, and was the School book of many that taught LOVE, FORGIVENESS, MERCY, KINDNESS, COMPASSION, and COMMON SENSE, is Slowly and More Quickly being Dicarded by some in exchange for SAFTY from an enemy of the Very Book and Teaching of LOVE, Forgiveness, Mercy, Compassion, And TRULY COMMON SENSE to RECOGNIZE whom ones Enemies are. Jealousy, Envy, Greed, and POWER to Rule OVER all. Hmmmmm back to KING RULE OF WHEN THE ROYALTY said; Let them eat cake?? no WORSE, Being Murdered For Faith Not Theirs…….. Though. When Does Tolerance turn to Slavery to a Dictatorship by ONE FAITH, BELIEF, BOOK, AND MAN???? or A GROUP OF Like UNITED NATIONS That WILL SAVE US ALL from TRYANNY OF THE ENEMY. “RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORIST” Covering up reality of truth does not make the reality of truth go away. AND never wins wars.. Oh I have no answer either This war has grown bigger then any before. As I see it right in the East where it has been prophecied. and a people land is Surrounded by the Enemy… they know it So do some of the rest of us.

Red flags go up immediately when you read that a Democrat from California is sponsoring a new law for anything. You have to know that it can’t be ‘for your own good’.

Sen. Grassley: I think you are on the wrong side of this issue. Do you remember what the 4th Amendment says, even though it has been misconstrued by the Supreme Court?

If you really think the so-called PATRIOT Act is so great, and is actually Constitutional, then why didn’t you and the rest of Congress just amend the Constitution? Or is it just easier to create junky laws that trample on the Constitution instead, and find a corrupt set of justices to pronounce it as passing muster? Remember “Innocent until proven guilty”? Or has this part of the Constitution been dismissed also?

I guess we have passed the tipping point, where we elect people to the Senate more for their ability to protect disparate constituencies than for their passion to follow the laws that enable them in the first place. First we elect a President who believes that only the laws that he likes should be enforced. Now we have rogue Senators who believe the Constitution also no longer applies. This isn’t the America I grew up in, and I don’t expect to see it come again. And these same Senators will not put an end to this Executive Branch lawlessness! They would rather just be a rubber stamp.

I would rather live where there is no law enforcement, than the current over-enforcement culture we have created in this country. Belarus is looking better by the day!

We must remove the RINOS in this next election and Grassley, Graham, Snowe, Collins and some others need to be out the door in 2012. It is time to have real conservatives who actually represent the people in congress and the senate and the white house. It is time to flush the cesspool in Washington.

That should be in every state of the UNION no matter what and that is a fact.

They can just use the good citizens to catch anyone and not cost the Government anything, My late uncle, a German officer in WW2 explained how. First you declare a group of people a risk to society and your way of life. First was those needing social programs to survive, as in stay alive. In America those would be people using social security, medicare, and medicaid. They take up the money for things more important. For Germany it was building there armed forces. For the good of society they are expendable. This was accepted by them, so all the aged, physical and mental disabled were exterminated. First the old age homes were cleaned out and then the institutions for the disabled. But there was, then, still many in there own or familey homes. Just like many are known today, by other familey and neighbors to be involved in crime, and ignored. My Uncle said they came up with the perfect solution to find and eliminate them. They made it known if they were turned in, the person doing so, could claim there property. They had collection drives up and down the streets. There familey and neighbors would drag them out of there homes to turn them in. Not unlike how we take garbage out for collection. Only then, came the Jew problem. Read the feeling about the programs that keep millions of our own alive today. When I’m told we cannot lower our military budget to let our own live are we not starting down the same road? Is it not for any reason than money? That money pouring in from the large corporations in contributions for our Government leaders. Even worse is they make it sound like a new idea.
