Justice Department Clears Google-Admeld Merger

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (UPI) — The U.S. Justice Department Friday cleared Google’s $400 million acquisition of Admeld Inc., saying the merger likely wouldn’t lessen digital ad competition.
“After a thorough review of the evidence, the [Antitrust Division] concluded that the transaction is not likely to substantially lessen competition in the sale of display advertising,” the Justice Department said in a statement.
Justice was reviewing Google’s purchase of online advertising firm Admeld announced in June, focusing in whether competition in the display advertising industry would be stifled.
In a statement posted on their Web sites, Google and Admeld said they were pleased Justice cleared the deal and anticipated closing the acquisition in the next few days.
