Just Who, Exactly, Is Delusional?

Isn’t it remarkable how the left is railing on and on about how the Tea Party members of Congress held the debt-ceiling talks hostage by demanding that there be no tax hikes? They have even referred to them as terrorists and suicide bombers, malcontents who ignored the heartfelt pleas of that paragon of unity, Barack Obama, to tone down the rhetoric after the Tucson shootings.

But something doesn’t quite ring true here. If the Tea Party contingency sabotaged the debt-ceiling talks, why would a majority of Republicans be so mad at them?

Democratic nonsense aside, the truth is that Republicans:

  1. Raised the debt ceiling enough to take the pressure off Obama until after the 2012 elections,
  2. Were not able to assure that there will be no tax hikes in the near future (trust me, there will be),
  3. And rather than cutting spending, merely slowed the growth of spending (as Republicans have been doing for decades) from an Obama baseline that would have been unheard of even in the George W. Bush years.

Nevertheless, along comes a real radical, MSNBC’s Martin Bashir, and conducts an anti-Tea Party interview with a left-wing shrink by the name of Stanton Peele. Peele (with the utmost objectivity, of course) told Bashir that Tea Party conservatives are “delusional,” “could become a very angry movement” and “could potentially become a violent movement.”

Really? Funny, but in all the Tea Party events I’ve been to, I haven’t seen anyone who looks like he has the “potential” to become violent. On the other hand, I’ve seen a lot of union thugs who are violent; but, for some reason, neither Bashir nor Peele mentioned any of those guys. Hmm, that’s weird… I wonder why? Must have just slipped their minds.

At one point, Bashir asked Peele: “So you’re saying that they [the Tea Party people] are delusional about the past and adamant about the future?” To which Peele responded, with an air of professional certainty: “They are adamant about achieving something that’s unachievable, which reminds us of a couple of things: It reminds us of delusion and psychosis. It reminds us of addiction, because addicts are seeking something that they can’t have.”

Something they can’t have? Hmm… I thought the Tea Party candidates won the midterm elections in a landslide, so gaining control of the House and increasing the number of Republicans in the Senate turned out to be something they could have.

Could it be that Martin Bashir, Dr. Peele and angry Democrats are the ones who are delusional? Do they not understand that history has repeatedly shown that radicalism and violence are overwhelmingly traits of the far (and sometimes not so far) left?

Nevertheless, even though the Tea Party won the midterm elections for Republicans, a majority of the GOP, both new and old, failed to do as instructed. Would that the accusations of the left were true and that Republicans really had held the debt-ceiling talks hostage to their demands. But it was not to be.

Congresspersons elected by Tea Party voters were not sent to Washington to compromise. They were not sent to Washington to raise the debt ceiling. They were not sent to Washington to “change the terms of the debate.” They were not sent to Washington to show how civilized they could be.

The Tea Party sent Republicans to Washington for the express purpose of cutting government spending.

Which is why it was breathtaking when John Boehner, after he signed on to yet another of the endless bad deals Republicans have made with Democrats over the decades, said, according to GOP officials, on a conference call: “It isn’t the greatest deal in the world, but it shows how much we’ve changed the terms of the debate in this town.” He added that the agreement was “all spending cuts. The White House bid to raise taxes has been shut down.”

Based on his analysis of the Democratic victory over raising the debt ceiling, John Boehner and his fellow sellouts in the Republican Party are the ones who are delusional — not the Tea Party members.

If you want proof that Martin Bashir, Stanton Peele and John Boehner are all delusional, just take a look at the latest Gallup Poll regarding the outcome of the debt-ceiling debate. According to Gallup, 64 percent of Republicans nationwide say they disapprove of the debt-ceiling deal made with the Democrats, and independents disapproved of the deal 50 percent to 33 percent.

On the other side of the coin, Democrats approved of the deal 58 percent to 28 percent, and even liberals approved by a 51 percent to 35 percent margin. The figures pretty much underscore what the end result really was, notwithstanding all the jabber about “changing the terms of the debate.”

I should add that the same Gallup Poll also found that a majority of Americans believe the debt-ceiling deal will make the economy worse. It certainly didn’t do anything to impress either Wall Street investors or Standard & Poor’s.

Would that the Republicans had thrown a temper tantrum (as Democrats and the left-wing media accused them of doing) and gotten their way. If so, we’d be looking at a very panicked Barack Obama today rather than the same cool community organizer who is focused on raising a billion dollars to aid him in anesthetizing the public once again and winning what should be, based on the results of his Presidency, an unwinnable election for him.

Maybe the Tea Party people do need to get violent, given that the left will continue to accuse them of doing so regardless of how civil they act. Even if they throw out of office enough RINOs who still don’t get the Tea Party message and bring in a whole new group of Republicans who are willing to take a chainsaw to the budget (rather than just getting excited about “changing the terms of the debate” in Washington), the violence that Messrs. Bashir and Peele so worry about is sure to happen anyway.

However, violence that results from real (as opposed to imaginary) spending cuts won’t come from the Tea Party folks. It will come from those who are unwilling to give up the good life they’ve become accustomed to as a result of the government’s redistribution-of-wealth policies.

But let’s see the spending cuts first. We can worry about the violence later.

    “Delusion is just a state of mind” said the patient to the psychiatrist. You’d think America’s long-term crazies would eventually admit that utopia is a fading dream and that no matter how many times you go to the political well to find causes that have always failed in the past, it doesn’t mean that ‘one more try can’t hurt’ [socialism, communism, fascism, economics theories from Keynes, Mao and Marx].
    It really boils down to which side of the crazy pill you’re on. Conservatives don’t have much use for Big Pharma, the FDA or political delusions that always have fancy packaging.
    OK, space cadets, bend over and smile. Here’s your bedtime dose of thorazine and crack cocaine. Don’t worry. It’s not habit-forming – depending on how you define ‘habit-forming.’ It’s kinda like “is” or ‘transformational’ or ‘transparent’ or ‘quantitative easing.’ Wow, the rush!

      Yes, I agree, that’s the reality of things.

      The tea party was silence and was not helpful during the recent “Debt Ceiling” negotiation. They NEVER provide a plan or a list what to cut; and now they WON’T stop WHINNNING AND COMPLAINNNING.

      The use many different ways to reduce the effectiveness of the Republican party’s votes, and some of the tea party candidates are used as a tool for the elites.

        Unless you have the hard copies of the ballots, so they can be recounted as it was during the Bush election 2004, otherwise it becomes very difficult to prove voter fraud.

        Democrats verified votes during and after the 2004 election. The independent newspapers also did a recount, and Bush won legitimately.

        *** Without the hard copies which enabled to do the reccount, Bush would not have been able to prove he won!!!!

          The tea party is NOT a part of the Republican Party. The TEA party’s platform WAS DERIVED from the REPUBLICAN Party’s platform, therefore there is not much difference at all. If a candidate, he/she is a Republican; they can not claim they are a Tea Party candidate.

          They sound more like an OPPORTUNIST. We see from the last “Debt Ceiling” issue, how the Tea Party operates.

          Let see who can walk the walk and talk the talk.

            Mr. Ringer, since you brought it up I just wanted everybody to have a chance to see the complete picture. I feel you failed us again. You did not mention a lot of important facts:

            In NOVEMBER 2011

            1. the Republican Party won the lower house by a landslide.

            2. the Republican Party won the governor seats by a landslide.

            3. but, the Democrat Party won the Senate seats which CONTROL the final say and can overturn (overrule) the president and the lower house (the Republican Party).

            *** It’s very strange, the Republican Party won it all except for that which counts – THE SENATE.

            *** WHY?? Could this possibly because of ELECTRONIC VOTING again?
            Anywhere electronic voting was used since 2008, Democrats won. Or there were a lot of problems.

            The Senate can’t override anything the house passes. It can vote to not pass legislation, but if the Republicans (and the Tea Party) voted to not raise the debt ceiling, there’s nothing that the Democrats or this moron in the Oval Office could do about it.

            The Senate would’ve lost more seats had more been up for re-election. Unfortunately, because of 6 year terms (vs 2 years in the House) many couldn’t be voted out.

            I fail to see how pushing for fiscal responsibility is a bad thing? The Tea Party candidates elected to the House and to the Senate were put there to fix this out-of-control spending. True, they only control the House. And there are still too many old-school republicans who only want to Play Politics just like they always have (Saxby Chambliss, this means YOU!)So we do what we can since we do not control the Senate – yet.

            SJvet – Democrats aren’t letting the Constitutional procedures get in their way anymore. If they can’t get what they want passed throught Congress, O just issues an EO or appoints a new czar.

            Of course, Republicans aren’t really trying to stop them. That’s why their all trying to villify the TeaParty.

            The destruction of America is nearly complete, and they are tasting blood. In fact, it’s a near feeding-frenzy.

            The Republicans are Tea Party light and the Tea Party will mostly vote Republicans so there isn’t much difference.When the Tea Party name is actually on the ballot then folks can differentiate a little better. Until then they are only using each other such as in good cop bad cop.

          For some reason I am missing your point because as I remember it was the highest court in the land that gave the election to Bush. If there were ever a case of voter fruad it was Bush v Gore. Now you say that the 08 elections were rigged? I think not.

            Ron, the final tally in Fla, even after the Supreme Court stated that there was no need to keep counting showed that Bushes count was higher than that of Jr’s so by Electoral vote BUSH WON. Get over it.

            Bush won by a pretty big margin and Owl Gore was in the limo on his way to concede when he got a phone call from the great communist draft dodger, bubba, who told him not to concede and all of a sudden Bush wasn’t winning by as much as the totals showed. bubba and the present buffoon have stunk up the White House and DC like never before.

            No ron, you’re not thinking. Voter fraud is standard operating procedure in democrat controlled cesspools like St. Clair County, IL where I live. Every time a Republican starts to pull ahead, ballots magically appear from nowhere. When the morons at Fools, Buffoons & Idiots (FBI) could no longer ignore the fraud, they sent a low-level stooge to prison for a couple of years. The local democrats gave him a going away party; a party attending by crooked judges and the crooked board members. Bush won fair and square regardless of what the liars of the democrats say.

            With every liberal Democrat politician, lawyer and media representative counting and recounting the votes Bush won the election. With liberal lawyers trying to discount votes from the military and eyeing so-called “chads”, Bush still won the election. The only way to get a hanging chad is to stuff more than one ballot into the voting machine. With all that, Bush still won. In that case, leftist attempts to hijack an election failed. They still make it work in places like Chicago.

            Ron, you are right. The 2000 presidential election was one of the most egregious cases of fraud in our history, sanctioned by the conservative majority of the Supreme Court. Worse, we are living with the tragic consequences of that decision today. I doubt that a Gore administration would have invaded Iraq, given those huge tax cuts to the rich, or allowed such massive deregulation of our financial sector that helped lead to the 2008 collapse and subsequent recession. Also by avoiding a senseless war with Iraq, a Gore administration would have had the resources to make a really serious effort in Afghanistan early on that might have gotten Bin Laden in late 2001 and brought some stability to that nation that was starved of U.S. resources for several years under Bush because of the mindless Iraq War. It makes my heart sick for the American people when I ponder the consequences of so many of Dubya’s decisions that might have been avoided under a President Gore.

            Hang in there Ron for California just voted in a law that only popular votes count in all elections. If that will be true then Gore would have won. Republicans have their own shenanigans to live with although they will never admit it. I’m referring to the Wisconsin vote today. Americans for Prosperity (Koch affiliate)Mailed out absentee ballots to Democrats for the vote on Aug 9th. The problem was is that they told the Democrats to return those ballots by Aug 11th. Which would be two days after the election. So they have their own bag of tricks. On top of that the return address on those absentee ballots doesn’t even exist.Another question that should have been brought up why did the Republicans use that Democrat mailing list? I’m not sure if this would be considered a double Con or a triple Con. All they come up with to use against Democrats is in their arguments is the dead voter and Harry Reid cheated. No proof but it all sounds good to them.

          After all the recounts in Florida it was discovered that Al Gore actually won the popular vote. However the Supreme Court appointed Bush as President. He was never actually elected to office. He was appointed.

            The tea party is a collection of know nothings who have no idea how the economy or the country works. They repeat that the country has to operate like a family does,all the while ignoring the fact that every family actually does function w/ ongoing debt,and a country is not a family anyway. Deficit spending has to be available to countries when necessary. The tea people also conveniently forget that Bush and the Repubs did the most to put us into this dire situation w/ unfunded,unending wars,tax cuts for the rich,medicare drug plan…again all unpaid for in the budget.

            Their real plan is to wreck gov’t so we can return to the ‘good old days’ of 100 yrs ago, when we had almost no regulation of big business,no safety net for the less fortunate,no labor laws,no pollution laws,no anti discrimination laws,and big corporations essentially owned America and the gov’t.

            The majority of the people will not fall for the blatant attempt by the tea drinkers and others of the rightwing to send us back to the dark ages.

            Wrong. Try checking the facts, again. South Florida tried to steal the election from the rest of us, but, failed. Fortunately, truth prevailed in Florida. Not so in states like Illinois. Socialist states are going broke or are already broke. Conservative states still have mostly stable economies. Where the economies are in trouble, conservative leaders are working on fixes. Funny, states like California have been socialistic for decades and want the rest of the country to underwrite them so they can continue the policies that have destroyed their economy. Like trying to find ones way out of a neighborhood by going around the block again and again.

Despite massive Democrat efforts, including a 26-page guide on how to negate Military votes, Bush still won. He may not have been a good president, but we can all be thankful that we averted the disaster of “Man Bear Pig”. (at least we postponed it until the election of Owebma)

            Even discounting what went on in Florida,Bush still lost the election in the total vote count. He ‘won’ the electoral college after the conservative Court stopped the counting in FL,but still didn’t win the popular vote. More people voted for Gore than Bush. Now,I wonder how you rightwingers would have responded if Obama hadn’t won the popular vote and was only elected by the electoral college? Do most of you rightwingers even understand how the electoral college works?

            denniso…you are so very WRONG! This country IS very much like a family. Before you decide to belittle my opinion, please know that I spend over 40 yrs in accounting, so it’s a subject I’m fairly familiar with.

            Do I think there should be some tax increases…yes, by closing a bunch of “loopholes” that allow corporations to have record profits but pay not one dime in taxes. We can start with the “loopholes” that allow corporations to profit, greatly I might add, from sending jobs overseas, for one. Only an idiot would think that this so called “one world economy” benefits anyone in the US. What it does do is drive the US wages down, if you are lucky enough to be employed. There is no way a US company can compete with the low wages paid to Chinese or 3rd world country employees. One only has to look at our trade deficits to realize, we aren’t benefitting.

            If a family is spending (on credit) 10 times what they earn they will also have a deficit, just as our country does. Eventually, that same family will end up in Bankruptcy Court as it will become impossible for them to pay even the interest, let alone the principal, on their debt. That is exactly what has happened to the US. Raising the debt ceiling accomplished only one thing…we can now legally accumulate more debt. However, while we may still be able to pay the interest on that debt, that doesn’t mean we have the revenue to pay the principal, and as we’ve seen, the end result was a downgrade of our credit score, just as a family’s credit score drops when they are too indebited, compared to their income (revenue).

            Economics is economics, regardless of whether it’s an individual, a company or a country. If you think it’s not the same, then you are living in lala land.

            Amy is correct. I distinctly remember reading somewhere that Gore won the popular vote and Bush was “appointed” into office by a judge that Bush himself put in. I recall being very pissed about it and finally, finally realized our votes really don’t mean jack squat.

            Amy – In case you missed that class, American presidents are not elected by popular vote. They are elected through the electoral college.

            You liberals also fail to recall that Clinton did not win the popular vote, either. Was he also appointed? Yes, by the EC. But I have never once heard a liberal bemoan that fact.

            You do try hard. You are correct, it is possible to win the popular vote and lose the presidential election. But Clinton won the popular vote and the Electoral College

            Clinton – Popular Vote – 44,909,806
            Bush – Popular Vote – 39,104,550
            Perot – Popular Vote – 19,743,821

            Clinton – Electoral vote – 370
            Bush – Electoral Vote – 168
            Perot Electoral Vote – 0

            I think what you ment was that Clinton didn’t receive more than 50% of the popular vote. That was because it was divied among 3 canidates.

            On November 27, Republican Secretary of State Katherine Harris officially certified George W. Bush as the “winner” in Florida by 537 votes.

            Since that date, independent investigations by the media have revealed that many illegal votes were counted – while many legal votes were not.

            If the votes in Florida had been counted by non-partisan election officials in compliance with the law, Gore would have won Florida.
            George W. Bush, his brother Governor Jeb Bush, Secretary of State Katherine Harris, a partisan Republican majority on the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Republican-owned media did everything in their power to prevent a fair and legal count of the votes.

            In other words, these Republicans used their enormous power to steal the Presidency of the United States

            Almost all families have debt,some have a lot,and if their cash flow is dependable they can function w/ debt. All countries have debt,and maybe too much,but having debt is not the end of the world. We have to continue to borrow even as we pay down the debt,otherwise we don’t function as a 1st world country w/ the largest military in the history of the world. Why can’t the rightwing accept that we also have to cut our huge military budget? Why no peep about bringing our overseas soldiers home from Germany,England,japan…?

            Clinton actually did win the popular vote,both times…what he didn’t get was a majority(over 50%) because Ross Perot was in the race and took enough votes out to deny Clinton a majority…doesn’t matter because He still won the most votes of the three candidates.

            Hang in there Alice, California had a Republican Governor and yes their debt is the highest in the nation. California also has the world’s 8th largest economy and to some degree is supporting the rest of the USA. There are alot of factors involved in all state economies and maybe they need to diversify even more.

            Gore has done quite good for himself. He didn’t need to become president to pass global warming laws. He is now a billionaire and owns many green companies. Yes as president he would have made money but no where near as much as he has made.
            The tea party is a movement to take back government from the rich. Most rich are democrates. The rich blind the poor with some hand outs so they think the democrates are fair. The poor are now a bigger class then ever before. So the democrates blame the republicans. Odd that the democates have an army of unions that will attack any threat, look at Wisconsin and other northern states. Do not cross the union they have and will take people out…

        You should really be a little more informed before you go spouting off about things you obviously know nothing about. S & P stated that the downrade wouldn’t have happened if 4 Trillion had been cut from spending. The only party to put forth a 4 trillion dollar spending cut was The Tea Party. Try researching yourself, as opposed to being led around like a lemming.

        Paper ballots have been rigged for years, as well. Only voter ID and some sort of system permitting only one vote per individual (maybe the Iraqi style purple finger?) plus matching the number of votes cast to voters present at each polling place can limit fraud. Add to that some sort of security for the ballots and all election materials; if they are out of the chain of custody, they become invalid.

        Oh, wait a minute; then the fraudsters will sign up to work conservative districts, make sure the chain of custody is compromised and invalidate their votes. Criminals will always find a way…

      Dave, Repubs had no choice. Obama was holding numerous press conferences claiming our economy would fall apart because the Repubs wouldn’t give up on avoiding taxes on the rich. Of course, anyone with an ounce of common sense knows Obama & the Dems were the ones about to cause the default, but we have many people who still believe Obama’s lies and distortions. The ridiculous part is that S&P stated we needed $4 trillion in spending cuts and no taxes or they would lower the rating. Yet, Obama & the Dems kept pushing for taxes. Obama claims that those who can afford a tax increase should pay their fair share. Those people are already paying far more than their fair share and who is to say that all these people can afford a tax increase? Obama starts his rich category at people making $200,000 per year ($250,000 for a couple). That is upper middle income and is not rich. I feel it’s safe to say they are not millionaires, billionaires, jet owners, or any of the other ridiculous categories preached by Obama. As for delusional, that is one of the markers of people with Obama’s affliction.

It was the Repubs,pushed by the goofy and clueless tea people,who connected the raising of the debt ceiling to spending cuts,not to mention trying for a stupid balanced budget ammendment. The budget/debt talks can and should be ongoing in the country w/o holding the entire economy hostage to the debt ceiling,which is not in the constitution and is probably unconstitutional. The country can not just ‘stop spending’,especially in the largest recession in 80 yrs…a recession that began under Bush,you should remember. Our economy is dependent upon consummer spending and laying off huge numbers of workers,even gov’t workers,when we are already experiencing lagging consumption is a sure prescription for disaster.

        No one who has no clue about how our economy actually works should imagine that they know what we should do.

          Denniso, You should read up on what the S&P required. The root of our problem is the jobs that have left the country. In an effort to keep the economy going along, more people were encouraged to buy houses – whether or not they could afford them – because construction was our largest manufacturing industry and we needed to keep it going. When you distort things like this you will end up with trouble. We did. We had inflated real estate prices and junk mortgages. We were given cheap credit so we would keep buying since 70% of our economy is consumer spending. Again, we had a distorted system since people spent more than they could afford and now want debt relief. All this was done to avoid a recession, but we ended up with a worse recession. You want the govt to keep borrowing $.45 of every $1 it spends so it won’t have to cut spending. This is another distortion, as it has to end somewhere. We are $14 trillion in debt. Do you think continuing to borrow at this rate will ever fix that? Of course not; it will only make it worse. Major spending cuts were required by S&P to avoid a downgrade and they weren’t done. Major spending cuts are our only way out of this mess. First on the cutting block: our abused welfare system that costs over $1 trillion per year.

            Ellen, our spending cuts should start in this order:

            1) Foreign Aid…especially to countries in the Middle East who are not, nor will they ever be, our “friends”. Their societies are corrupt beyond even what our own is. Their emphasis is on islamic rule, thus making a democracy impossible. Long after we leave these countries, their people will remain oppressed by a few who have power. Nothing we do will change that and we’ve already given way too many lifes of our young men/women, in an attempt to change it.

            2) Close ALL miltary bases, in Europe, except those in the UK. Time after time, countries like Germany & France have proven they have no loyalties to the US, so it’s time their own men/women defend their countries…ALONE. With today’s Army, entire units can be moved within a matter of a couple of weeks, anywhere in the world that we are needed, so to continue to be a presence in our so called “allies” lands is an expense we shouldn’t pay. Better to put those same troops on our own borders to assist the border patrol in securing our own nation.

            2) Excess Government spending on stuff that costs about 1000% less than what we pay for it. Most companies have REAL purchasing agents that get bids on items and don’t rubber stamp purchases regardless of the price. Why, pray tell me, does the US Govt. pay $1,000 for the EXACT item that we consumers could buy retail for maybe $10 max?

            3) Welfare needs a major overhaul. I’ll be the first person to say I believe in helping someone who really needs it. Americans have a long history of helping their neighbors, from our first beginnings (i.e. barn raisings, helping neighbors plow fields, etc). That said, you do no one a favor by not making them earn it, just as those of us who work “earn” our paychecks. The current system is designed to encourage dependancy, not independence.

            When we’ve accomplished that, then (and only then) we can determine where other cuts need to be made.

            Ellen, S & P singled out Repubs specifically in blocking any increase in revenues as a major reason we can’t fix the problem. Welfare does not cost a trillion/yr. I never have said we shouldn’t cut spending,but it depends on what and how much and how soon…every person who can do rudimentary math knows that we can’t just cut our way out the debt,and the economy cannot sustain major immediate cuts.

            Cutting spending is what we need to do. Anybody with rudimentary observation skills knows that when you let Politicians have more money, they spend more money. And it’s not their money in the first place to help themselves to.
            Those of you who feign generosity and compassion should show us what you’re made of and donate your money to the Government. But our money is not yours to donate.
            We somehow got along with Federal Government spending of $2.2 Trillion in 2003, my rudimentary math skill tells me we can do it again.

The S & P, who supported and backed the bailout in 2008 with a AAA rating of approval, is the same outfit that now lowers a credit rating of the US to AA+, in effect lowering the cost of stocks and securities. Now they (their investors) can buy up FED securities at a lower rate and control even more of the wealth of the country. The same outfit that backed the toxic mortgages and allowed the real estate market to balloon out of control. All the while you people are having a pissing contest over who is more at fault, republican, tea-party, or democrat. Stop pointing fingers at each other for 30 seconds and wake up! The economy is about to take a deeper nose dive and the ultra-rich are about to pad their bank accounts again with your money. Then, that very day, we got downgraded credit rating….so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see who is to blame….but, instead of taking responsibility for the downgrade, as usual, the Demorats are blaming everyone else…in Obama’s speech, he is still blaming Bush … again saying that he inherited this mess….well, he knew what the mess was when he ran for the position and he is the one that said he could fix it…of course, he had no ideal how to fix it…he only had a teleprompter reading someone else’s speech. The Demorats go to the DNC every week to get their new words of attack, and this week, the words are “tea party downgrade” … they have no plan, no budget which is over 2 years late, just words to attack. The truth can be hard to swallow when we had high hopes that the new people we sent to DC would really make a difference and hold the debt ceiling… so I’m thinking the international powers are really the ones controlling congress – even the new members. They are pushing us to a socilist society, bringing down America as the world leader, and gaining total control over us financially in order to further benefit their own lifestyles. There will be higher taxes, more government control, and less incentive for small business and enteprenures in the US. We need to abolish NAFTA, tax the heck out of imports, quit sending aid to foreign countries that hate us, quit the free ride for illegal aliens domestically and deport them, then start taking care of our own people. Bring our troops home to defend our borders. Decrease big government; get rid of the czars. There are SO many things we could do to make America strong again! Where are the patriots in congress? No, the Tea Party is not the problem – the Tea Party is the beginning of the solution!

      Guess you didn’t hear about what happened at the Wisconsin State Fair? Hundreds and hundreds of young black people were attacking white people at the fair. They even attacked the police officers, putting two of them in a hospital. It was clearly a black on white attack, according to the eye witnesses. So, it has already started in American, just has not escalated to that level YET.

      Most of the violence in England right now is related to robbery of the businesses. They use tweets to set up an attack on a business. The car burnings, etc. are simply ways to slow down the police. It has happened at least once here in the US a few weeks ago when a group of teens did the same. They all converged on a store and at the same pre-arranged time, began to rob it, taking everything they could carry. The store clerks and the police had very little chance of stopping it simply due to the number of people involved. Until someone starts shooting them, it will continue both here and in England. (And I expect the shooters to be the ones punished rather than the robbers.)

    Consider this. In a game of tug of war. How is it that the loser gets blamed for pulling too hard? Isn’t it the winner that stubbornly resisted. Does the winning team say “you pulled too hard – no fair!. In this topsy turvy world of ours – Sure. What better way to get rid of the opposition once and for all.

    The length of new Bills written should be no longer than 20 pages long. Each point of a new law should be tied back to the Constitution and the Bill should focus only on one topic. The “Pork” written into the Bills should be stopped! This would greatly reduce spending, but that would not go over well in this Congress. Change needs to happen! I suggest shorten the length of the bills, and be sure that the font size is at the minimum 12, it has to be double spaced, with 1 inch margins top and bottom.

      I would also like to see a ruling that NO regulations not voted upon by Congress as a whole can by created by any agencies or individuals, including the President.

      Too many laws are created that way and none of us have any say in the matter. Congress even likes it that way since they can say they didn’t have a part of some bad one.

      There are a few things that we can’t stop. We can’t stop paying interest on our loans without ruining the credit of the US. We can’t stop paying payments to those on Social Security, etc. We can’t stop paying the military since we need them for protection.

      We CAN stop paying the millions of people drawing money from the government for things that we never originally thought needed. We CAN stop paying almost every country in the world foreign aid. We CAN stop paying for things like subsities to various groups. We CAN stop paying money to various charities. We CAN stop programs that will bankrupt us that haven’t even gone into affect yet, such as Oblamacare. We CAN get rid of Departments and agencies that cost us far more than they help, such as the Department of Education, The Department of Energy, etc.

      And if we do stop paying all those costs, we could balance the budget.

      Nothing in the Bible is original in human thought or philosophy. It all comes from earlier and mostly pagan sources that predate Christianity. Much of what passes for unique and original in Christianity and the ‘teachings’ of Jesus actually was taken almost verbatim from pagan religions like Mithraism…Jesus is almost a carbon copy of Mithra. If Christianity is so ‘real’ and profound then why did it take a million or more yrs of human existence for it to show up? Where was Jesus and his saving grace for all the billions of humans who existed way before his supposed appearance?

      Our country was never founded on Christian principles,just human principles that almost all modern countries agree upon. We are not unique either,just better in some ways and worse in others.

        1.) this country was founded by people who fled England for being RELIGIOUSLY PERSECUTED. They were, for the most part, Christians, therefor, this country was founded on Judeo- Christian beliefs (read a REAL history book. not one of the ones now allowed by the socialist dept of education).

I’ve worked as an instructor at a local college, and the sad but true fact is 89% of the freshman that have recently graduated HS have to take remedial math, English and Social studies courses before they can start the BASIC college sylabus, because they are either NOT taught the basics in school, or have been “socially” advanced because “it would be too embarassing to the student to be held back” until they DID learn what they were supposed to be learning.
        Todays basic education as set out by the federal government (constitutionally illegal, that falls under the 10th ammendment ie. the powers and duties of the STATES) has FAILED!!!

    If they paid more attention to the Tea party, maybe they would have cut more spending and maybe we wouldn’t have been downgraded. If they wanted to sound moderate they should have called for a 10 year spending freeze, which would sounds moderate, but would have saved 9 trillion over 10 years. It’s outrageous that spending is projected to increase 8% per year.

    I’m new here, and to catagorize myself, guess I’d have to say I’m a gun-lovin’-2nd Amendment guy, and independent voter who has a deep distrust of our political process, and both of the “2 1/2″ parties that voters have to choose from.
    I voted for George W. in his first run (big mistake), didn’t vote for anyone in 2004 (2 much “hurl-factor”), and voted by default, for Obama in ’08 (not looking good(, because I couldn’t vote “R” so soon after watching them destroy the economy. At the end of 2008, both parties were to blame, but it was under one man’s presidency that we got into two needless wars and witnessed our “unregulated implosion”: George W.! I’m done with Republicans for a while. Perhaps when they get their Bible out of the butt, and stop trying to force-feed the rest of us their beliefs, will I consider them again.
    Any way, as one who has visited this site off and on over this past week, I’m still waiting to be impressed. Overall, the opinions expressed here, are not much different than all the other millions of partisan sites out there in la,la-land; in that, like all the others I’ve visited, this site is highly partisan, and NOT very objective.
    To constantly blame one political side for all this nation’s woes, is highly ignorant and over-emotional … like a little girl who just lost her Barbie Doll.
    Only when people start blaming both parties, versus demonizing just one party, and only then, will some true semblence of the REAL truth be realized … as in, the truth of a “thing”, is usually found in the MIDDLE: versus Ultra Conservatism, or Ultra Liberalism!
    As is obvious to most, Washington, and the way in which our political system was constructed, renders it unable to function in this time of mass polarization between the “2 1/2″ parties, none of which, represent the “middle” of America. Perhaps when life in America becomes so dire, will both parties then be forced to work together somewhere in the MIDDLE, and actually overide this nation’s stalmate.
    Until then, I’ll just have to do the best I can.

        You know, I think I’ve lived long enough to recognize that our political system is broken, and that without sweeping changes, the faces of our leaders may change, but little else will … just the same old dance of a similar song, or if you like: the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results!
        No matter the political party, America is ruled by wealthy elite classes and Big Business. When the definition of a winning politician is defined by the millions of dollars they “raise-borrow” from wealthy corporations, entities they will always be beholding to, then the deck is ALWAYS going to be stacked against Main Street.
        Perhaps the only way out for middle America in the long term, will come from the collapse of the system as we know it, and the rebirth of something new.
        Several months ago; I think it was on MSNBC’s “Dillon Radigan Show” (the least biased pudit I’ve noticed), the guest suggested the only possible way out for the middle class, was possibly, through violence! How revolutionary, and perhaps correct … time will tell.

      Neither the democratic or republican parties deserve a place in our government. Both are infected boils on the ass of society.       With all due respect, the economy started the nose dive shortly after the Democrat Party regained control of Congress, in the spring of ’07. Unemployment had been hovering in the 5 – 5.5% range because prospects for a good business environment were positive. I objected to the Bush administration’s excessive spending, but that is not what caused our current economic problems.

      As far as the two wars go, both were authorized by Congress, unlike the third entered into by the current administration.

        Tell you what, even if it is not true, I’m willing to conceed that perhaps, just perhaps, you might have a better recollection of the “Clinton years” than me … however, what I do recall is, Bush walked in on day one with a BUDGET SURPLUS! During his 8 years, he built about half of what we currently now have as our deficit – the rest Obama owns.
        Add to these facts, that in, I think it was, November of ’08; George W. went against his sworn political ideology, and using tax payer monies, bailed out big business/Too Big To Fail entities, on the backs of MAIN STREET! Therefore, I have to conclude, that George W. goes down in history as one of the WORST PRESIDENTS EVER!!!
        Now, unfortunately for us, we have to wait and see if Obama replaces him in that catagory. Long story short, no matter who wins in 2012, without change to our political system, Main Street is toast.

      I am like Mirage. It’s been two weeks now, reading through each topic, reading through every last post, just trying to make sense of it all. I am a veteran and almost died defending the “human” rights of people in this country and abroad. I had a business of my own, but was forced to close it’s doors due to big corporations offering the same services (although much much less quality) squeezing me out of business. I bought a new home and worked for a union that created the roads that everyone drives on. Knowing full well that a major reason why the people of America even have things like retirement benefits from their jobs is because of unions (although I’m no fool, I don’t condone the practices of the early unions to create those benefits). I lost my job & house when the economy crashed and know full well that it was caused by the greed and corruption of the ultra wealthy and a complete lack of governance from the federal government. I now have an autistic son, who is 2 and found out through 1000′s of hours of research that institutions like the FDA are run by nothing more than big corporations that are not only allowing harmful products to be manufactured and distributed to the public, they are also actively trying to suppress things like a cure for cancer and autism. I am an average white american male with a family who through a series of uncontrollable events, have found myself on welfare and tirelessly searching for work. I am upset because I cannot even get a job picking strawberry’s because I do not speak spanish. I have guns and know how to use them very effectively, I will not give them up. I am not gay, but do not care if two gay people want the basic right that everyone else in America enjoys of attaining a marriage certificate. I am not a racist. Muslims, Blacks, Hispanics, Christians, etc are just as patriotic as I am and just because they have a different skin color or religious belief does not make them any less deserving of the same rights I fought for. In case you missed that last sentence, I am a veteran, and almost died twice defending those rights. I am not a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, or any other religion that bases it’s entire faith on a book written by man for man. Especially ones that are based off of the religions that came before them in an attempt to religiously enslave a populace. I am not a Communist, Socialist, Nazi, or anything other than an American. I despise bigotry in all forms. “Do as I say, not as I do” or “in order to live in my world you have to adopt my belief system” is pure and simple BS. The land of the free, that is what it is to be American. That should include the freedom to have faith in whatever you want. To pursue a career in whatever you are able to do. Too many of you spend so much time bashing Democrats, Republicans, Tea-Party, Liberal, Conservative, meanwhile the few elite that really run the policies, laws, and economy of this country (Mega corporations and bank executives) are just happy to sit back and let you carry on with your little rants about how persecuted you are, and how the “other side” lies and corrupts. I’m not sure what political party I would fit into, so I just call myself and my belief system “The American Middle Party.” Our voices may not be as loud as the far ‘right’ or the extreme ‘left’ but we are the majority. We don’t really care what demographic, religion, or political stance you have… What we do care about is results. Give us jobs, security, compassion, liberty, justice, and most of all, freedom…

    I don’t care about the name calling etc. I really don’t care to bicker about cutting spending. It seems that everyone wants to keep all of their money but continue to use the services that are provided by the government.
    If all we do is cut spending how do we pay for the roads, water, sewage, food inspectors, etc? How do we get the money to pay for those things if we all keep all of our money? Just think. No income tax, property tax, no sales tax, wow no taxes. I just can’t fluch my toilet.

      I don’t know about you, but I pay for my water and sewage myself. Roads? Think a lot of that comes from the taxes on fuel. And do you really believe that there are workers inspecting your food? Tell me how USDA employees inspect the billions of animals slaughtered daily? It’s more like LESS THAN 1% is inspected overall. Yuk…

        What would happen if we had 0% food inspection? Remember the rumores of old meat packing plants where if a worker lost his finger in a machine they would just grind it up into the meat. Especially things like ot dogs.
        What you have forgotten is that at one time we didn’t have food inspectors, the EPA, and other rugulations. Calls from the American public wanted these laws in place in order to keep big business in line and keep the public safe. At one time doctors would prescibe Cocain as treatment. Sure it made you feel better because you were high, but it didn’t solve the problem.
        Large companies can not police themselves. All they care about is profit. We saw just last year with BP. in the gulf. That was nothing compared to what would happen if you did away with regulations. You just have no clue because they have been in force for so long and no one is alive from the times that there weren’t some of these reulations.
        Do you you really want your afternoon sky to be as dark as midnight? Do you want to have to test your water before you drink it? Do you want to worry about the milk you give your kids might be bad? We take things for granted because we’ve always had them. Just do away with them and see how safe you are.

          I wouldn’t give my kids milk (if I had kids). It’s loaded with pus cells, hormones, and antibiotics. The dairy industry has completely brainwashed people with this “milk is good for you” bull. That’s why we (not me) keep drinking milk long after we are weaned, and it’s not even our mother’s milk but a cow’s milk that is meant for THEIR babies…calves. Humans are the only species on the planet that continue this but no one thinks about it. It’s what the people are programmed to do.

          The other stuff you mentioned I won’t get into now, just too busy. However, the EPA is largely screwing up a lot of stuff in this country because they’ve become too damn powerful, just like all the other bureaucratic BS agencies.

            Probably 90% or more of Americans have municipal water and sewer,and we’re lucky for thst…read some history and see how the Plaque and other major diseases became epidemics and decimated millions of people before we agrees to use tax money to provide proper sanitationa dn clean water.

            The meat inspectors do indeed inspect,they are so undermanned however,by increasing budget cuts that they can’t do as much as would be preferable.

          Actually, Amy, I lived in a time when we butchered our own hogs, cows and chickens. AT HOME! We cured the meat, made lard, etc. There was no USDA inspections. But there are USDA inspections today, and just this week, it was announced that thousands of pounds of turkey meat was being recalled because the meat was bad. This facility was a USDA inspected facility. Oh, yes, I feel much better about the regulations. Yes, there are some of us who did live long before the regulations started, and life was much better. People took care of themselves, we didn’t question the safety of our tomatoes or strawberries, because they came out of our own garden. I still have my gardens, and jar and freeze my food. The government and all it’s regulations always make life harder for everyone. You just don’t know it, because you have never lived FREE of it.

      If you have been following ALL the blogs on here, you will notice that MOST of the contributors pretty much agree that the main problem is Too much government, whether Dem or Rep. That’s why most of the contributors are pushing for tea party candidates. They SEEM to be the only ones who are for downsizing the government, getting government spending back in check, and actually ABIDING by the constitution.

    Two things: What helped the Democrats remain in control in the Senate… :( Reid retained his seat because the clueless, ignorant union workers from the hotels (mainly MGM properties) were shuttled to the polls (during their shift) and told to vote for Reid or they would lose their jobs. Before election day, Harrahs’ workers were phoned and instructed to vote for Reid, yada yada, same reason as above.

    Secondly, regarding blaming the Tea Party for the downgrade… The best analogy I heard so far is, that’s like blaming the guy who called 911 to report a fire! PERFECT!

    Efforts to cut spending in a recession is a national suicidal ideation. The US economy is cash-starved. Globalization and better than 30 years of Reaganomics has reduced middle-class income to the point that it is no longer sufficient to support the economy. Despite frequent claims that President Obama is “bad for business”, US corporations are raking in record profits but are unwilling to spend the more than $2 trillion in cash reserves they have accumulated. An economy is spending. Without spending, there is no economy. To cut federal spending in that economic climate is an invitation to disaster. The time to cut spending is when the economy is strong.

If your pay check is $1200 a month, and your rent is $600 a month, your light bill is $200 a month, and your car payment is $200 a month, and your grocery bill is $200 a month, how in the world are you going to afford that cruise to the Bahamas? You can’t, you don’t have any money!! You can spend money you don’t have, and neither can the United States Government. Oh yes, you can borrow the money to take your cruise, but your monthly payments already match your monthly bills, which means you don’t even have enough money to make payments on your borrowed cruise money. The government is in the same situation! We all have to learn to take care of ourselves right now, including growing your own food, hunting and fishing, etc.

      What we need is somebody who knows how to run a business/household. Bush ran three businesses into the ground before becoming president. I looked it up and found it. He is also guilty of insider trading, but daddy had it swept under the rug.

      Obama never ran a business and has no idea what it takes to make a payroll. He sincerely believes the more he spends will eventually get us out of the hole. He’s a squirrel looking for a nut.

      We all know that in our own lives, keep spending what we don’t have ends up with insurmountable debt. Good credit rating is lost (surprise!), next goes the house, the car, bank account wiped out, credit cards maxed (no more credit card “debt ceiling increases”) and everything else circles the drain. Our interest rate goes up because we can’t pay what is already owed. Next up…bankruptcy.

      We can not continue this path of destruction. Time for a fiscally responsible experienced Head of Household to run the business of the US. Not an inexperienced politician who doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the wall.

      Agreed. Remember what it was like when Clinton was prez? Everybody was working, I had a thriving business and money was flying out the floor boards.

      When Bush got elected I warned EVERYONE I knew “We’re in big trouble, folks.” Truer words were never spoken.

      What do we have now? Only 52% of the people are working, 48% are not. They say the unemployment rate is 9%. Looks more like 50% to me. Foreclosures, bank shut downs, bailouts, illegals getting checks from funds they put nary a dime into, fraud, waste and corruption. Not that any of this didn’t exist before, but it sure is big and ugly now.

      Meanwhile we all bitch and moan, too scared to rear our own ugly heads to put a stop to the madness. They can’t arrest us all if we collectively put our constitution to work, which gives us the right to take back our country and put the government liars, whores and thieves in prison. No, better yet, make them live under their own laws like WE have to. Take their jobs and confiscate their bank accounts to “spread the wealth”.

      However, I would highly advise wearing gloves and other protective gear as the last (Bush) and present (Obama) POTUS have been wiping their rotten asses with our constitution.

      Even Bush was noted as saying the constitution was nothing but a piece of paper. If you notice, bush can’t set foot overseas. He had to cancel a speaking engagement somewhere in Europe as there was a threat of arresting him for his war crimes, and rightly so. What’s good for the goose…..

      Funny, most of your references seem to be right out of the CPUSA manual. Warmongering, racist, wealthy benefactors…

      I attended several TEA Party rallies, and did not meet a single person who did not pay his own way. No union supplied buses brought us into D.C., no Soros funding helped us get there. I met a few who are pretty well off, but most fit solidly into the middle class.

      As far as racism goes, the few blacks who do show up at our gatherings are well appreciated, and we tell them so. We are the ones who look for content of character, which has been so lacking in political circles for so long.

      Our opinions on the three wars range from “never should’a been there in the first place” to “nuke ‘em all”, and everything in between. But unlike the left, we can discuss and disagree without hatred. We don’t hate you, but we are concerned about you and what your vision of the future is likely to do to our Republic.

      It pi$$ed me off enough that I sat down and wrote out everything I could think of about my time in Vietnam and what was actually going on there so my kids could hear the truth for once. I also gave a copy to her teacher who read it and kept it on disk in the school library. It still annoys me that they would change the entire history to make the politicians look good.

If the Government funded a program in 1960 to turn lead into gold, after 20 to 30 years, when trillions were spent, and no lead was turned into gold, would that program still be funded? Over 50 years of assistance have kept the poorest poor. If the intent was not to KEEP THEM THAT WAY, wouldn’t the programs have been cut, and changed for programs that work? 4TH generation public assistance? What a terrible waste of potentially great minds, talents, and creativity, stifled by racist politicians (of all races) who have intentionally kept the poor uneducated, poor, and just barely alive. It doesn’t take money. It takes committment and drive. Engaging churches, businesses, civic organizations, all with a common goal. It doesn’t happen because they don’t want it to happen. They want those poor minorities addicted to government money. And, they have succeeded.

I went to a private school and flunked religion and went to the next grade in a public school. I had all (a)s in public schools. I even had to correct the teachers on what the taught. what we spend on education in public schools could pay for a private education with less money spent, for a better education. what is wrong about this problem. we spend more for less and get worse results.

      We always get “less for more” when we deal with anything associated with the government. Education is just one of those. The story always is that they aren’t paid enough – if we give them more, our children will get a better education.

      The way I look at it, we hired those teachers at a pay they accepted to teach our children. If they refuse to educate our children to the best of their ability they are cheating us and should be fired. If they would do a better job for more money then they are not teaching to the best of their ability. And when the school insists they can’t fire the bad teachers, then we need to shut the whole system down.

There must be adequate grounds by now to consider impeachment including his obvious electronic forgery of the “birth certificate”, which several experts on this kind of fraud agree on. Plus he’s gone back on essentially every campaign promise and flip-flopped many times on issues even since he’s been in office.

      Obama is an embarrassment to the office of POTUS. His cabinet and other advisers are horrible Leftists using the powers of the federal government to push their social agenda ( Atty. Gen Holder suing states for requiring photo ID’s to vote!, U.N. Rep. Susan Rice viciously bashing @ Security Council mtg. our only reliable ally and friend in the Mideast Israel, and sucking up to the vicious Islamofascists there), etc. etc.

    What myself and most Americans blame the tea party and the GOP (and the two are one) for is showing the world over the last few years and with this debate that we the people find it a valid choice to not honor our commitments. Time and time again they publicly discussed defaulting on our debts as a realistic option after demonizing pretty much every civil employee in govt service in order to break America’s word to them. We may be dumb enough or selfish enough to believe our own BS, but we live in a world of competing nations and at present we do so as a borrower not a lender. And oddly those people see us (or at least such leadership as the TP’ers and GOP represent) far more clearly than we see ourselves.
    I am reminded of the 3 generations of welfare people who live next door and now $3000.00 in arrears are finally being evicted, and shockingly they are fighting it. It’s their right to live free, it’s everyone against them it’s racism (though they are white with one mixed ethnicity child), the landlord is sooo rich…they don’t have the money so they shouldn’t have to pay…(I kind of remember the GOP saying that alot the last few years.) I say good ridance, I know the landlord and a kinder man you won’t meet, but he’s tired of being lied to and pissed on and at the end of the day…not being paid. Well, the tp’ers and the GOP just showed the world that we are prepared to act just like those people as a nation, they should be ashamed of themselves. Since they aren’t, I at least can be embarrassed for them. We elected these people, (and the president who I respect as the president but don’t always care for otherwise)we are responsible to the world for their actions and if we had been anyone but America taking that attitude in the world, our credit ratting would have and should have been lowered a year ago.

This is their way of attempting to distract the public from the catastrophe which is this Presidential administration.

    As though anyone with any sense still had any doubt, recent events have confirmed have serious our national financial crisis is. And even the independent credit-rating agencies agree that we have a severe problem with unmanageable debt from out of control spending.

    So how in the world is the Tea Party’s pushing for reining in spending and a balanced budget amendment “terrorism”, “radical”, “destroying America”, or any of the other ridiculous name-calling the Dimmocrats have fallen back on–in the absence of any discernible coherent policy or leadership from the White House.

    And the repeated accusations of “violence” from the Tea Party are getting pretty annoying, since there’s not a shred of evidence for that claim. Where there has been disgusting violence and brutality is from the unions and their shills in Wisconsin and elsewhere, when the rule of law from elected officials doesn’t suit them.

    It’s as though we’re living through Alice in Wonderland, where truth is turned on its head. The only consolation is that I do get the feeling that an increasing number of Americans have become very disenchanted with Obama and his charming friends like Eric Holder, Susan Rice, the Islamofascist and virulent antiSemite Khalid Rashidi , Rev. Wright, etc., etc., who of course define his real agenda in spite of his denials–else why would they be his long time friends and now appointees?

The biggest problem we face is congress. Nothing will ever change until there are term limits and control over money for campaigning. Our politians are bought and paid for by big business. How did big business get big? They sell things and are good at it. They sell their canidate to the public and the canidate votes in favor of the business that put him into office. Until you learn to vote out incumbants every election nothing will change.

The biggest problem now is that many people thought that changing leaders would fix things,yet what happened is we have put in more stubborn,non cooperative hardliners,as in the tea party ones. They came in w/ no idea of how congress or the country works,knowing little about the economy or what we need to do…all they want to do is block any Dem policy or plan to revive the economy,and they cling to a rigid ideology that can’t work.         Probably the only thing special about our idea of marriage is that under law it effects everything from medical benefits to inheritance. And this is why major drug and insurance corps are willing to fund X-tain nut groups (I can’t quite bring myself to call them Christians, Satan has more right to the word)to demonize gay and other types of marriage. Because by doing so, fewer people get benefits and more inheritance goes to the state. States can even invalidate wills in some cases where gay or lesbian relationships are not validated by legal marriage. So like most things it has little to do with the bible and everything to do with the dollar and social control. To be fair, openly gay couples kind of creep me out a bit, but if that’s the way they were born neither I nor My god have issue with it. But sadly a large % of Americans must believe in the tooth fairy – if they think Democraps will be more fiscally responsible, cut taxes and absurd regulation, and create jobs and prosperity. These ignorant voters must be delusional, and are oblivious to the fact that elections have consequences, and electing Democraps only makes bad situations worse. A majority of Americans want Obama-care repealed. But if the majority had voted more wisely on 11/4/2008, there’d be no need to repeal Obama-care, because it never would’ve been enacted in the first place!! Many of us are frustrated by the GOP’s ability to reduce deficits, national debt or cap our debt limit. But if the majority had voted more wisely on 11/4/2008, we wouldn’t have such unsustainable debt or deficits.         Rule 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It’s hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

        Rule 6: A good tactic is one your people enjoy. “If your people aren’t having a ball doing it, there is something very wrong with the tactic.”

        Rule 7: A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues.

        Rule 8: Keep the pressure on. Use different tactics and actions and use all events of the period for your purpose. “The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this that will cause the opposition to react to your advantage.”

        Rule 9: The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself. When Alinsky leaked word that large numbers of poor people were going to tie up the washrooms of O’Hare Airport, Chicago city authorities quickly agreed to act on a longstanding commitment to a ghetto organization. They imagined the mayhem as thousands of passengers poured off airplanes to discover every washroom occupied. Then they imagined the international embarrassment and the damage to the city’s reputation.

        Rule 10: The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, “Okay, what would you do?”

        Rule 11: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don’t try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.
        According to Alinsky, the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting. “The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.
