Journalists Call On FCC To Continue Working For ‘Net Neutrality’

April 16, 2010 by

Journalists call on FCC to continue working for 'net neutrality' Last week, a United States court of appeals issued a ruling blocking the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) attempts to prevent internet service providers from restricting access to content, applications and services offered by competitors. Now, a group of journalist is pushing back, urging the FCC to reclaim its right to regulate broadband networks.

UNITY: Journalists of Color—an organization representing more than 8,000 professionals in that field—has called on the commission to reclassify broadband as a "telecommunications service," which would make it a basic utility subject to regulation, and reverse actions taken by previous commissions that favored a deregulatory approach.

"Without the authority to set net neutrality rules, the FCC cannot promote a level playing field," said UNITY president Barbara Ciara.

"[We] oppose any technological, legislative or content strategies to block innovation and free speech on the internet," she added.

The U.S. District Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that the FCC had overstepped its jurisdiction when it attempted to impose net neutrality rules on Comcast, which had blocked its subscribers from using the file-sharing website BitTorrent.

Analysts say companies such as AT&T and Verizon would also be hit by "net neutrality," but it would benefit applications providers such as Google, Skype and Facebook. ADNFCR-1961-ID-19721643-ADNFCR

Any journalist who supports ‘net neutrality’ is NOT a journalist. Any politician who supports ‘net neutrality’ is trying to DESTROY FREE SPEECH.
Any politician who supports ‘net neutrality’ should be tarred, feathered and horse-whipped. Common sense is NOT to be found in these people. They are social engineers with a hidden, anti-freedom agenda. The truth is NOT in them, and the 1st Amendment is in constant danger as long as these useful idiots prey on the ignorance and indifference of people who should know better.
‘Net neutrality’ is anything but neutral. It will DESTROY FREE SPEECH. If that happens, it’s the late 18th century all over again. Bank on it.

SC, I agree, This Administration CANNOT stand dissent of ANY kind. The youngness and Inexperience of this Admin, shows especially, when the President and and his ilk, answers serious questions with arrogance. The President taunts Republications to GO FOR IT. to run on Repeal and Replace. They literally dis and look down upon the American people in contempt, as if we have no right to the truth. Or he takes 17 minutes to avoid a question, and ends up explaining nothing at all. Net neutrality WILL indeed destroy free speech. We need to keep a mindful eye.

      SC,
I agree with your statment 100% Any one in the press that feels that this is a good idea has no clue what the 1st Amd is all about. Nor Freedom of speach. Thus they are “not journalist.”
      They are Marxist.

FREEDOM of Speack is one of the basic keys to any FREE country, thats not free as in free stuff but free as in NOT SLAVES!..

If a politician wants this action of Net Nutral they are a MARXIST FREAK!
Vote their butt out of office as fast as your feet will go.

This wrong in all respects. This is called edging the wedge, once the door is open even a tad, it leaves the way clear to a 100% control issue.
We don’t need the bloody Government in our lifes at all. Their job is one thing and one thing only, stay the hell out of our way. How bloody simple is that to grasp?

Change is a coming and we need to CHANGE the DC Belt way and all special interest groups as in ALL OF THEM. End of story.

Cut Government size – Cut Government spending – Cut any and all politicians who fail to do what they are told to do.

      End of story.

    This is CRAPPOLIE….
I guess if they have the power to shut you up and that doesn’t work they will kill you and blame it on you for disagreeing with them.

  • ratuig dog

Anytime you hear the socialist left speak of anything “free” be wary!!
This is just the current administrations attemp at controling the internet!!! He’s trying to control the internet so he can shut down any independent thinking and free speech!! I just hope all of the independents who voted for this liar in the white house and all the liberals and dems out there will have had their eyes opended by what they have seen this liar and his band of socialist do to our constitution and how they have perverted the laws of our country in their attempt at anything “free”!!! It’s nothing but lies!!! The only thing “free” will be their agenda and socialistic lies!!!!!

  • Victor Mandeville

Net censorship is one part of multi front attack, there is congress woman trying to pass a bill to restrict any and all speech which may or may not appear to critical of B.O. as racism and Hate Speech, the law would make it possible for people to turn each other in for making anti OBAMA comments it would order FCC to pull the license of any radio station TV station web site etc who airs anti OBAMA broadcast. It would regulate blogs chat rooms gatherings etc. Anything which can be perceived as possible attack and or statement against the long leg mac daddy would be subject to fine or imprisonment. This would also be extended to schools churches etc.

These people have shredded the constitution since day 1 and now they are hell bent to reform this nation in their image.

    • Pat R

They are already monitoring everything in this comments and chatrooms!
Everyone should be cautious and mindful about what they post anywhere online.
Sometimes I feel like saying some “serious” things, but decide it would not be wise to do so.

Be aware of your surroundings at all times, watch vigilantly, and be prepared for your own safety. Bad things are happening everyday!

      • TIME

        Pat,
Your 100% on target, but as long as we still have our freedom of speech we need to display what we feel.
If not we all loose, and if we loose this country to the Marxist that are so close at this point – its over anyway.
Of what value is there in life as a “SLAVE.”

Let me be clear – I understand that this is not something new, the issues have been going on for no less than 100 years, and more in line with 175 years.

        Follow the money – {then you will find the bad guys.}

The familys all live in FRANCE and Switzerland & Germany.
GS is their lackey, and BO is his lackey and you know the other players here in the US by now, think NWO, any one who states they are a Progressive, be they a dem or a repb or indep, these are the foot troopers / lackey.

When history (if we even have one after Obama) writes of this time, it will remember that we had a government that finally decided once and for all that it only represents a narrow set of groups (journalists, union leaders, college professors, and government employees) and that the rest of the populace is a hostile, conquered nation that they are occupying and moving to subdue.

If there is a history to be written at all it will be because that population finally rose up and overthrew the oppressors (and I venture to say it will be thru force of arms as even now few people realize how much the Demoncraps have already compromised the ballot box and are poised to eliminate it’s validity for the foreseable future).

  • C J Madden

Who do those “journalists” think they are? They certainly do not promote Freedom of Speech…the Courts ruled correctly in this case.

  • Republichic

I personally would like to know who these so-called journalists are. I am slightly suspicious of the name “Journalists of Color.” That name sounds similiar to the radical group Van Jones is associated with. There is no doubt we are under attack from Progressives who are trying to bring every aspect of our Country under socialism. What surprises me is we don’t see the big names out there making it known how they agree or disagree with these attempts. Liberty News, please disclose who these journalists are. We deserve to know who is betraying our Country.

  • s c

Republichic, call me a pessimist, but that group with the questionable name [Journalists of Color] needs to be renamed and properly viewed as “Too Pristine to be Seen As Racists.”

    • Jeep

      Well color me red! ;)

  • Yrrek

Look up the name McChesney, and you will find the Marxist behind this thinly veiled attempt to limit free speech by the regime.

    • Jeep

Did you mean the host of Media Matters, Robert McChesney? That purveyor of truth, justice and the American Way. What a snazzy guy! He’ll even tell ya he’s “neutral”. Just ask ‘em.

  • Bruce

Do you know what ‘Net Neutrality’ means? Without it if your internet provider decides that they want to block say Bob Livindston or Glen Beck thay can and you can not do anything about it. That means a company can restrect free speach not the Goverment. I do not like Obama but on this I agree.

  • Merl Elton

    Net neutrality is not good and leads to loss of freedom of speech; a stifling of information, distorted and biased information, one view;
an unregulated propaganda machine, and a captive and ignorant population that is easy to control.

  • Lew

Journalist, who have delegated their investigative responsibility to the Federal Government, want the FCC to pursue Net neutrality. This is the same FCC that couldn’t run, a small section of bandwidth called “Citizen Band Radio”(27 Mhz.) and finally gave up. That the same FCC that makes money on the Air Waves by selling spectrum to the highest commercial vendor.
