Jobless Rate Rises In November

December 7, 2010 by

Jobless rate rises in NovemberThe national unemployment rate climbed to a seven-month high in November, according to the latest Labor Department report.

The jobless rate rose to 9.8 percent last month, up from 9.6 percent in October. The unemployment figure has now exceeded 9 percent for 19 consecutive months, which is the longest period of that rate on record.

The Labor Department reports that the U.S. economy added just 39,000 jobs last month. Analysts estimate that approximately 200,000 to 300,000 jobs per month would have to be added in order to bring down the unemployment rate.

According to media reports, Vice President Joe Biden said that the report is disappointing. He believes the bleak job numbers reinforce why Senate Republicans should agree to extend certain unemployment benefits for Americans.

Republicans, however, believe that the jobless rate gives new urgency to the need for tax-break extensions.

"Today's heartbreaking unemployment report should be yet another wake-up call to Democrats that raising taxes in the middle of the worst economy in 25 years is a mistake," Representative Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said in a statement, quoted by The Wall Street Journal.

Republicans want to extend the Bush-era tax cuts, which are set to expire on Dec. 31, for all Americans, while most Democrats say that families earning more than $250,000 per year should be excluded from the extensions.

Both sides are just wrangeling for position on this. Where are the ideas for brining down the unemployment rate? The job creation bills?Nothing more than tit for tat between democrats and republicans. Mike L.

    • CJ

When businesses are worried, waiting on threatened new regulations, and congress takes months to debate them (which, by the way, only seek to appease one small group) before actually deciding on an impossible concoction of rules, which the business will take months to interpret and put in place, it’s a wonder we haven’t regulated ourselves into zero GDP already. Businesses will crank up when regulations get out of the way.

      • Jana

And remember, the Democrats are still in the majority in both the House and the Senate. That will not change until January.

    • EddieW

Gongress is to vote on the “dream” act tmo…this will make jobs even harder to get…it’s another big giveaway program for illegals!! Please write you congress people, and say NO to the evil Dream Act!!!

  • Rolland

This “president” couldn’t create a job if his life depended on it, and neither could his czars.

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

All the ‘emergency money’ that was needed was supposed to help create jobs. Where? Why is unemployment rising instead of falling? Transparency in this administration is just smoke and mirrors.

    • Carole Howell

Ahh! but the tax breaks for the rich were suppose to stimulate the economy and create jobs, so the Government borrows 700 billion a year to give these tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and have for 10 years now and where are the jobs? We lost 8 million.

So since this does not create jobs, but does dig us deeper and deeper in debt. I say let them expire.

      • Vigilant

“so the Government borrows 700 billion a year to give these tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.”

Please take a course in macroeconomoics.

        • Vigilant

          …make that “macroeconomics.”

        • Jana

          Carole Howell,

Where do you get your ideas from? The Gov.’t did not borrow 700 billion to give tax breaks to the wealthy. That is ludicrous. The actually borrowed the money to pay the unions, to put more money into a lot of their own pockets, to buy companies and give bonuses. It was supposed to go to help the economy but it was so MISMANAGED that it is ridiculous. This is all thanks to Obama.

By the way, they did not borrow 700 billion a year either.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Carol… You sound like you may be for the FAIR TAX. Contact your representatives and get them on board. Everyone is taxed the same. What could be more fair? You make more, you spend more, you are taxed more. Then no one can be accused of not paying their fair share. I have contact my representatives. We need all of them on board and listening to us!

        • http://none Mike

Robin, Been jumping up and down on this fact since I first read Mr.Boortz and mr. Linders books. All it has gotten me so far is a form letter that has nothing to do with my questions. And this is comming from the home state of people like Danial Boon and Davy Crockett. Sad sad and more sad. Mike L.

      • Joyce from Loris

Money is NOT borrowed to give to millionaires. I get so sick of hearing the government mouth pieces say that it will cost the government X amount of dollars, etc. HOW STUPID. The money belongs to THOSE WHO EARN IT. That $700 billion is just the amount the government DOESN’T TAKE AWAY FROM THE TAX PAYERS. It’s not the government’s money, it belongs to those who have earned it. And the people who work smart and are successful are no more responsible for those who will not work and be successful than I am, and I can assure you, I do not believe in wealth distribution. It is sinful to FORCE FROM SOMEONE what belongs to them, to GIVE TO SOMEONE ELSE, which has not earned it.

        • Sue

Joyce, you are so right. Some of the members of congress have been there so long they forget it is NOT government money – it is the money of WE THE PEOPLE!

      • TIME

Please explain to me how if you have ZERO, as in 0 and your get 0 that equals $700 Billion that one needs to take a loan on?

I would really love to know how that works.

Lets see My thought are if I make nothing, and expect something, dose that mean that I should have something, just for thinking that I should? I mean really, tell me how that works.

Also if you would be clarify how “my money” is the Governments money, I would really love someone to explain that in detail with out any rhetoric.

Thank you for your anticipated anwsers.

        • http://none Mike

Time , Good afternoon. Thats not going to happen and you know it. And if it did the answer would be so convaluted that there would be smoke rolling out your ears to read it.

These people only understand one concept. The love of other peoples money. Mike L.

  • Al Sieber

Well, I wonder what the real unemployment rate is? they keep 2 sets of books anyways.

    • Vigilant

BLS doesn’t count those who have dropped out of the job-seeking market, so the rate is closer to 20%.

    • s c

Al, many years ago, it was thought that Uncle Scam kept 14 sets of books. I have no reason to give the old fart any benefit of the doubt – ever.
It seems to me that a certain prez went to Washington to fix the economy and “save” us via hope and change. Maybe Mr. Obama thinks jobs are separated from the economy. Whatever he thinks, he hasn’t yet (after 2 years) made jobs a priority. Could it be that he doesn’t really care? Could it be that a progressive’s unending compassion has nothing to do with jobs?
Just a thought. Mr. Prez, if you think you can separate jobs from the economy, you’ve got more problems than I do. Resign, and give someone competent a chance. Then, maybe America will tell you what you can do with your hope and change SCAM.

  • Michael J.

Decided to post this recently received e mail because of it’s relevance to the article.

“Unexpected” is the very favorite adjective of the mainstream media these days. And it will continue to be their favorite adjective until Obama is finally driven out of office in the same spirit of disgrace and abject failure that Jimmy Carter left under.

When a Democrat – and most especially when a liberal Democrat – is president, every single new negative economic report is an utter surprise that no one could possibly have every expected.

When a Republican is running the country, by contrast, no matter how good things might be, it’s actually a bad thing.

The media’s bias is simply mindboggling. As I have frequently documented:

Media’s Bias, Dishonesty Re: Reagan Vs. Obama Unemployment Bodes Ill For America

And as researches have proven with media studies:

Partisan Bias in Newspapers? A Study of Headlines Says Yes

An article titled, “Stocks Fall… Unemployment Rate Rises… Factory Orders Down” sums up the Obama economy:

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks have begun the trading day down, with a disappointing jobs report souring investors’ mood. The Dow, the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 are all seeing modest declines in early trading.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Economists had expected better, but the Labor Department reports the nation’s employers added only 39,000 jobs last month. That was a sharp drop from the 172,000 created in October. It also pushes the nation’s unemployment rate to 9.8 percent. It’s now been above 9 percent for 19 straight months, the longest stretch on record.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Commerce Department reports orders to U.S. factories fell 0.9 percent in October. That’s the biggest drop since May. Plunging demand for commercial and military aircraft was the biggest factor. Excluding transportation, orders were off 0.2 percent.

But here we are. With our most current “Unexpected Update To Unexpected Unemployment News.”

A Labor Department report released today reveals job creation in November was down by 133,000 jobs from October, bringing the total unemployment rate up to 9.8 percent.

This was declared the most recent Unexpected Development in our long unemployment saga by the media. Private-sector job creators are facing massive tax hikes, which the President and his Party say they will defend to the bitter end. The cost of labor has skyrocketed due to a poorly designed, constantly mutating health care bill, which keeps spitting out unforeseen, but universally expensive, consequences. Somehow there are “analysts” who think they will respond to these factors by expanding their operations and hiring more people. Such analysts now live in a constant state of surprise.

Only 39,000 jobs were added in November, which makes it the sixteenth consecutive month in which unemployment has remained above 9.5%, the worst record since the Great Depression. You may recall that the Democrats predicted 7% unemployment by now, after a peak below 8%, if their trillion-dollar “stimulus” bill was passed. The Republican House Ways & Means Committee certainly does, and put out a press release to that effect this morning.

The ABC News report of the new unemployment figures contains an interesting quote from Daniel Pedrotty, director of the AFL-CIO’s Office of Investment, who thinks employers are squeezing more work out of few people by exploiting a “climate of fear”: “There are five applicants for every opening. You have to work harder, or your job either will be done away with or outsourced. Companies would just as soon open a factory in India as Peoria.”

No, they wouldn’t, or they already would have done so. No CEO looks at pushpins in Peoria and Calcutta on a world map, shrugs, and says “Whichever. I don’t know, flip a coin.” They choose Calcutta because they have to. They outsource when hiring American workers, or building facilities on American soil, no longer makes economic sense. Both sentiment and practical considerations cause them to prefer American locations. No sane executive would prefer to manage facilities on the other side of the world, commuting thousands of miles for meetings or inspections. If companies truly would “just as soon open a factory in India as Peoria,” there has been very little stopping them for decades. Are we supposed to believe America just keeps winning those coin tosses?

Furthermore, the idea of reducing personnel needs by enslaving current employees through a “climate of fear” is ignorant rubbish. Anecdotal cases surely exist, but the bulk of job creation, on a national scale, is a response to demand. The ABC report makes much of the contrast between falling job creation and rising corporate profits, missing the point that long-term hiring decisions are made in anticipation of future opportunity. Uncertainty breeds hesitation and thwarts expansion.

Look at it this way: suppose the government simply hired everyone, and guaranteed them a splendid income. What would they all do? The government could give them make-work jobs, but this would not be a response to demand, so it wouldn’t last very long. Every aspect of the economy, from consumer prices to interest rates, would be thrown wildly off kilter by a horde of people getting paid $30,000 per year to do whatever a government bureaucrat can think up… or more likely do nothing at all while waiting for the Federal Bureau of Imaginary Jobs to come up with something. The government would quickly go bankrupt, while citizens waiting in line to buy ten-dollar loaves of stale Wonder Bread. You don’t have to imagine what this looks like – just crack open a history book and look up “Soviet Union.”

Only demand and opportunity sustain job growth. People need each other. The only way government can help them hook up, and generate wealth through commerce, is to get out of the way. Wise observers will expect robust, sustained job growth when they see signs of that happening.

This marks the nineteenth consecutive month of unemployment being over 9%. The media continues to vilify George Bush, but do you know how many months the unemployment rate was over 9% during the Bush administration? Try ZERO.

The worst month for unemployment for George W. Bush was 7.8% – which, interestingly, was the same worst month as Bill Clinton had.(who, as we all know, paved the streets with gold)

Nineteen straight months of 9+ percent unemployment. Versus zero months. So we blame the guy with the zero months for the record of the guy with the nineteen straight months. And this from the very same Obamedia people who constantly harp about “fairness.”

Let’s blame the guy who had an unprecedented 52-consecutive months of job growth, rather than consider the policies of the guy who has clearly imploded our economy.

Let’s blame the guy who had one of the best records for appointing people with private sector business experience, rather than the guy with the worst record in history:

Whatever we do, let’s NOT blame the guy who doubled and then tripled the debt in the most massive spending binge in American history:

This ‘Blame Bush’ Crap Has Just GOT To End

George Bush inherited the policies that led to the 9/11 disaster only months into his presidency. George Bush inherited the Dotcom disaster that wiped out 78% of the Nasdaq index along with $7.1 trillion in American wealth that was just vaporized as a result of Bill Clinton’s economy. And rather than spend the next two years blaming his predecessor, Bush cut taxes and turned the economy around. At least until Democrat policies such as the Community Reinvestment Act and Democrat refusal to reform and regulate Democrat-created Fannie and Freddie brought America crashing down.

Why don’t we blame the president who actually sued banks to force them to make bad loans to people who couldn’t afford the home loans that the banks were forced to provide???

By the standard the Democrats used to demonize George Bush in 2004, Barack Obama is the worst president in American history.

But the media prefers “the unexpected” to “the truth.”

For the record, I am rather fed up with “unexpected” lousy economic news that anyone with a scintilla of common sense saw coming before Obama even took office.

    • home boy

who’s web site is this any way. your comment was so long i fell asleep. any way why not start will lowering the corporate tax to zero for a few years then only raise it to 10 percent. that would bring manufacturing back into this country. next tariff the crap out of any thing that comes into this country. third tell china to get their yuan in shape or we’ll stop selling our commodities to them . and finally get our auto’s and truck’s to run on natural gas and we’ll sovle our dependencecy on oil. that’s for starters but we need a whole lot more. also change our tax laws . there’s a book in the library that’s titled THE FAIR TAX by john linder and neil boortz. check it out.

      • CJ

If we tarrif stuff coming in, we’ll have zero exports when they retaliate. Then who’ll buy our stuff? U.S. consumers are the ones who would pay the increased fees anyway, and we’re too busy buying cheap crap from China. The consumer is ALWAYS the source of the money, if it’s from tarrif’s, taxes or fees. To fix the import problem, STOP BUYING IT! Put Americans to work… BUY AMERICAN!

        • home boy

that was my point of the tariffs to make people buy american. we give to much away and get screwed by other countries. time to get tuff and fend for ourselves

          • home boy

this one world government and economy is pulling down the rich countries. look at germany. the eu is expecting them to help everyone else. how long will that last before germany says enough.

      • http://none Mike

Home Boy, Did you know Germany has the fair tax allready inacted? There are 6 other countries that have jumped on this idea too. And currently their econimes are booming.

The problem here is on both sides of the isle now. We have people in power that do not under any circumstances. Want to turn loose of their power over your purse strings. To do so would enact the largset exchange of power between the federal goverment and the people in the history of this country.

I can only come to the conclusion then that these people in power would rather keep us enslaved to this current monster called the I.R.S Than return that power to the people. No matter that it would be an instant boom to our economy. Mike L.

    • Carole Howell

      Michael J.

During the Bush administration this country lost 8 million jobs and we were told they are not coming back. Those are facts, how in the hell do you get off giving him a free pass on that? 8 million jobs. Please, I do not care if 50 years goes by, those facts will never go away.

      • Michael J.

        Carole Howell,
Obviously exposure to facts makes you angry. Go back and read my post again and lets try for a complete blood vessel blow out this time.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Carole… Don’t know where you got your ‘facts’, but the only administration that is in charge right now that can either make things better or worse is Obama’s!

        • TIME

Oh ~ the details all these pesky little details, like common sense and all that stuff that just gets in the way, like the TRUTH, I guess Corrol is just reading a differant play book from her post.

I think I saw that play book right next to Alice in Wonderland.

  • Warrior

Now that the progressives have given in to no tax increase, we are about to see the unions go into action and it is not going to be pretty. Mark my words. Once the new congress starts to cut guvment workers and programs we’ll see California, NY, Chicago become hot beds for protesters. All the progressive’s plans are beginning to unravel.
This is the GOOD NEWS! Stay strong Patriots!

  • Norm

Where have all the jobs gone?
The rich are getting richer and the poor pound sand!

According to the U.S. Department of Labor and Forrester Research, Inc, outsourcing is expected to expand in numbers and scope.
Number of U.S. Jobs Moving Offshore

    Job Category 2000 2005 2010 2015
    Management 0 37,477 117,835 288,281
    Business 10,787 61,252 161,722 348,028

    Total 102,674 587,592 1,591,101 3,320,213
According to these projections, outsourcing is still in the beginning stages. As technology increases and companies
learn more about exporting, the numbers will begin to skyrocket.
These numbers also should be a warning to “office” workers. This is the job category that will increase the most between 2005 and 2015. Some of these jobs are higher paying positions, such as accounting. Jobs that don’t need direct, in-person human interaction are vulnerable. Also vulnerable are jobs that can be broken down logically into a process. Jobs requiring more creativity and decision making are safer, but not completely safe from being outsourced.

    • Warrior

Norm, where did you copy those numbers from the phone book?

  • Cribster

If we could eliminate the EPA and OSHA, business stifling regulations would disappear. These two groups have become mad with power and are more akin to Nazis.

Most of the EPA and OSHA employees are fresh out of school and have no practical experience in the “field.” They sit around in “think tanks” and dream up ways to justify their existence to the detriment of those of us who produce.

Taxes, or even the threat of taxes and overregulation are what killed the current job market.

There would be no need for unemployment if it weren’t for those who are pushing for it. Remember, it’s for the “CHILDREN!”

    • Granny Mae

I don’t know about the EPA but I do know about OSHA. I have had to deal with them on several ocasions when I was working. I was the safety monitor at work and I can tell you that there were many, many times that the employees had to work in very unsafe conditions that were never addressed by the company until OSHA was called. I’m talking about conditions such as explosive material left in work cells, humidity at unacceptable levels, creating highly explosive conditions at the work place, chemicals not properly disposed of, creating fire hazard in an explosive area. Storage drums of explosive and flamable liquids, in the hot summer afternoon sun to the point of the cans bulging and I could go on. How about unsafe working conditions durring a lightening storm while working with explosives. I can’t tell you the number of times the company let these complaints fall on deaf ears until I called OSHA. After the second time of calling them the company finally started taking me serious ! In my book OSHA performs a very needed service ! A lot of times we had to wait for them to come because they were so backed up and didn’t have enough people to answer all the calls. OSHA is needed in my opinion.

  • Carole Howell

Well, we could do what other countries do and pass laws against it to protect American workers.

    • Vigilant

Yes, always the BIG GOVERNMENT solution to any problem. Besides, your great leader and the Dems are proponents of globalism.

Reduce unnecessary regulation and taxation of corporations, and whip the unions into line and you won’t have to worry about outsourcing. Use free market solutions, not more of the same dictatorship.

      • Michael J.

Any sane person would recognize the need for a more user friendly, profitable environment to entice new business and retain existing corporations. Yet this president never misses an opportunity to stifle our business economy or destabilize the level playing field. He could not do a better job of wrecking our future prosperity if he tried. Or is he trying?

        • TIME

Thats the buzz kill you posted; Any sane person..

Man I love it but it seems that the TRUTH has a differant effect on some who may not be sane.

    • s c

Carole, somehow, our “leaders” have a vested interest in not protecting American workers – or jobs – or the economy. If we made outsourcing of our elected retards a priority, then perhaps they’d get the message. As far as I’m concerned, when our “leaders” sold us on the idea of “thinking globally,” what they really meant was for us to bend over, smile and hope for the best. Can anyone prove me wrong? Thinking globally is just as flawed as the idea that we have the “BEST” government that money can buy. We’d get a better deal if we picked names out of phone books. At least we could simplify the process, and BYPASS politics-as-usual.

      • Granny Mae

        S C,

You may be right. I think one of the big problems of our political leaders is most of them have no experience at a regular job. They have gone from school to college and then into some b.s. clerical job and they think they know it all. I wish I could have had them for two weeks to work with me when I was working. They would know what it was like to really work and still have to keep you wits about you just to stay alive at times ! In my humble opinion they don’t have a clue !

  • TIME

Be it as it may Barry Soetoro spoke just the other day and stated that over 1 Million new jobs were created in 2010.
Strange how the numbers fail to jell, I know of countless small business’s that are dropping like flys next to a fly zapper daily, (as in jobs lost.)

Yet Barry Soetoro’s plans be they good bad or indifferant will never be able to bring jobs to the US, Why is that?

We have more regulations and tax’s and rules etc.. than any other country in the world.
In plain words the Government has its hands on your Bank accounts, Your Insurance, Your business, Your life, as a matter of fact everything you own, and soon to not own.

Yes just last week the talk was about making Gold and Silver Illegal to own in the United states, WOW.
Don’t you question for just a moment why is that?

Look jobs are created one way and only one way, You make something thats in demand, and then people want said item / items.
Be it a food product, be it a car, computers, guitars, cloths, building supplys, some product that can be used world wide to sell and make a profit, note the term { Make a PROFIT }.

From these products, sales are generated, sales generated, then require people to help in the making of products. This in turn creates NEW JOBS. Wow how strange is that???????

Ok so if Government makes rules that you can’t do this, and you can’t do that, then the Dis & Dat is screwed up at the get go.
Then state taxs, Federal tax’s, add to the mix.

So let me just ask you all this, if you have say $1 million dollars, and you want to start a small business would you invest when you have all the odds stacked against you and your $1 million dollars?

Perhaps a better example is if its going to cost you $10 million to just get started and all you have is $1 million, are you starting on a level playing field? Or are you now $9 Million in debt?????
Please also – Keep in mind that most small business take up to 5 years to break the red into the black.

And the crazy idea that small business get loans to hire people is mindless ~ as do you get loans to pay your loans with?
Please stop and think about it. Any business worth its weight and will hold out has cash on hand to hire new staff or they don’t.
Ever hear of the term – down sizing?

Ever question what that means? It means your not making enought to stay solvent, aka pay your payroll..
Hello – will you please wake someone else up. The crap the media toss’s out is insane and so easy to see through its like clear glass.

And I didn’t even get to UNIONS, of what really toss’s in the crap sticks into the mix.

Just think about having to pay Full Benifits to people who no longer work for you???

But then add in the fact that UNIONS spend the Moneys taken in in dues / fee’s to “buy Politicians,” keep in mind that these fee’s / dues are for the Unions members 401K’s as in its – NOT the UNIONS money to spend, yet thats what they do.

Then they get the American TAX payers by porxy of the “New Politicians” the UNIONS helped get into power to write bills to TAX the American tax payers to cover the money the UNIONS Stole from their members 401K’s..
Now lets talk about Criminal acts. if you stole money from someone, what would happen to YOU?

    People PLEASE WAKE UP………..

    • 45caliber

I agree. What is sad is that the first two people a business must hire when starting are a safety officer and an environmental officer. If you don’t have those and the regs they follow, you simply can’t start up without breaking a law.

    • Granny Mae

Thanks, I have been trying to get people to understand that very thing forever. The unions use to be a good thing and even now there are places that make people work in conditions that you just have to have an outside source to represent the worker . It is too bad because the unions have become so corrupt. It is simply paid protection and run by gangsters. Can you say Jimmy Hoffa? People don’t seem to realize they can band together themselves and they don’t have to belong to an organized corrupt union. They can represent themselves.

If you think this jobless report was bad or we’re out of the recession but just lagging in cfreating jobs, just wait until February 2011, when this holiday season, which historically causes an increase in spending and hiring. Thats when you’ll see the real recession and the jobless rate go up in the double digit range, just like during the Carter years when the Democrats also had majorities in both houses of Congress. What Bernanke and the Federal Reserve is about to do will also bring back double digit inflation and then cause double digit interest rates, just like in the Carter years, another double digit misery index of Unemployment, inflation, and interest rates. Do you remember those days, thats how Obama is going to win worst President over Carter, both brought to us by the Democratic Party and their control of both houses of Congress. Even though the Republicans will take control of the ‘House of Representatives’ next year, the damage has been done by their control of the last two years of Bush and the first two years of Obama. Are you ready for the misery to come?

  • Raggs

“Job creation” is a flat out lie!
“Individual control” is what we have… pelosi thinks unemployment benefits create jobs… Hum just look at who the jobs are being created for… The government!…

The government does not want people to be self sufficient or in charge of their own well being, hence “healthcare”… The government is like a bunch of BUZZARDS ready to pounce on any entrepreneur…
As long as obama is in the white house America will never get back on it’s feet!

    • 45caliber

The only new jobs I’ve seen are for the government. Which means the rest of us have to pay more taxes to cover their salaries. And they get paid, on average, more than we do!

    • Granny Mae

Obama and his henchmen have put in place a system that is moving in the direction of making all of us dependant on the government for everything. They will control everything about our lives and when they control the food we eat they will have us completely in control. Sad thing is all these people that have been on the welfare roles for all these years have been the forerunners of it all. They are so use to getting a meger hand out for public housing, then your welfare check to take care of your utilities and clothing and then the food stamps for your groceries they have no idea what it is like to work for anything. They are content to just sit back and get what is given them not realizing they could have four or five times that amount if they just worked for a living. Most of them have no education and so they can’t get a job that will pay them any kind of a living so they have to accept the government hand out to get by. Then their kids grow up in that invironment and they quit school and spend most of their time on the street doing drugs or selling drugs. This is what the rest of us can look forward to if Obama gets his way and forces more and more people on the welfare hand out roles. This administration is doing it’s darndest to collaps this government so they can creat a new one here and force us into the New World Order ! I pray they don’t succeed.

      • 45caliber

Some of them do know. I had a cousin on Welfare who once told me: “You are a fool for working. You have to do what someone tells you five days a week! I can go fishing whenever I want … and you have to pay me to do it!”

  • Joyce from Loris

The government can not create jobs. Business people create jobs, and they better have A LOT OF MONEY to start a business. All of our jobs have been eliminated. All the small factories in our area have closed. There are no jobs to be had! THERE ARE NO JOBS! I read a report about John Deere, they have moved 90% of their operations to India. When questioned about the loyalty to Americans, that John Deere would move the jobs, then bring their products back to American, expecting Americans to purchase them, their comments were “we really do not have to count on Americans to purchase our products. Most of our customers are in other nations.” Yes, I burned my John Deere t shirt.

    • 45caliber

Try finding a garment made in the US now. I know Texas no longer has ANY garment factories. And I’m not sure if the US does. I know I haven’t seen any garments labeled, “made in the USA.”

Further, almost all parts for cars are made elsewhere – even for GM and Ford. The only one made in the USA is a Toyota model made in Tennessee. All electronics are made elsewhere. Most engineering design jobs are overseas now. The only real reason I have an engineering job is to check their designs due to my experience. And we wonder why we can’t find jobs here…

  • oldtimeyman

If we really want the jobs back we have to understand why they left in the first place.

First came GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) informally known as the Great Asian Takeover Treaty. GATT was negotiated during the United Nations Conference on Trade and Employment and was the outcome of the failure of negotiating governments to create the International Trade Organization (ITO). GATT was formed in 1949 and lasted until 1993, when it was replaced by the World Trade Organization in 1995. The original GATT text (GATT 1947) is still in effect under the WTO framework.

Then came NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and the introduction of the “giant sucking sound” phrase. Independent presidential candidate Ross Perot coined the phrase in 1992 as he predicted jobs and industry would flee the U.S. for Mexico if NAFTA were approved. Perot ultimately lost the election, and the winner, Bill Clinton, supported NAFTA, which went into effect on January 1, 1994.

Between GATT, ITO, and WTO we managed to negotiate away the only sensible way to fund government – tariffs. With trade barriers down, millions of American jobs almost immediately fled to Asia.

GATT was a sucker punch followed by a left hook delivered by the Democrat-controlled White House, Congress and NAFTA. Giant maquiladoras, or assembly plants, sprang up along the Mexico/U.S. border and again, millions of jobs fled to Mexico and Central America. Under NAFTA the U.S. provides raw materials to foreigners who in turn ship finished products back to us. Wal-Mart has become rich trading with China and selling inferior goods to a gullible public.

The result of this New World Order plan is that the American textile industry has nearly vanished, as have our steel, plywood, electronics and auto manufacturing industries – just to name a few. Detroit is almost a ghost-town, as are Gary, Indiana and hundreds of smaller towns and villages.

It is time to rally around the flag and circle the wagons, so to speak. Get us out of the U.N. which would end our relationship with the WTO and GATT. Back out of the NAFTA treaty and re-instill tariffs on all goods coming into the U.S. Don’t cop an attitude about breaking a treaty, we did it to Native Americans repeatedly.

Demand fair trade, not free trade. Bring our troops home and secure our borders and to hell with the world and the New World Order.

BTW, the unemployment rate is much higher than 9.8 percent. – at least in Michigan. Between the labor unions, high taxes and loss of jobs, their unemployment rate is more like 20 percent. I haven’t seen numbers for Ohio but I know they have taken a major hit in industrial employment and pity the poor miners in the Appalachians.

    • Granny Mae

You have hit the nail on the head. I couldn’t agree with you more. Michigan has been going in the tank since I left there in the early 70′s. It was the reason we left. If you didn’t work for the big auto industry you had to struggle for everything. We saw the hand writing on the wall and left. I have always missed my home state but our move was the right move for us. Still I see so many big corporations going down the drain even now. The one I use to work for closed up and shocked everyone and now the Space Center is becoming a ghost town. Our country is not looking good. When you consider that the space program is shutting down to next to nothing and the Russians are here minning our uranium and Lord only knows what else is going on, we may not have a country left to try to save people ! China is drilling oil here in Texas, what else is going on that we don’t know about? Obama has taken us to the brink of distruction I’m afraid !

  • “JAVOPE”

I saw the story teller on the news again reading his speech from the magic clear glass in front of him.

He said reluctantly he was not going to play games with the people in office so he would extend the tax breaks to everyone even the rich.

How many poor people have you heard of creating jobs for anyone other than the Government which by the way has no GNP rating.

He will extend the unemployment dole for 55 more weeks, well hell now we don’t have to find a job for another year isn’t that great.

Why can’t the government buy products from American company s and give the stuff away at least they will get some of the money back in the form of taxes and can buy some more.

I would think that would be better than giving the money away for nothing and getting nothing. Unemployment pay is tax free isn’t it? I don’t know because I have never collected it.

Kennedy started a thing called small business set a side contracts for small business in the 1960s it put huge amounts of money into the employment machine for jobs.

I really do not think this man we have in charge knows what to do, or, he is doing exactly what they want him to do.

It is up to us to stop it and clean house all the way to the top. Even if we elect people who do not know how government works maybe that would be a plus as to what we have now.

    • Granny Mae

You said it ! The dumbest box of rocks can’t do any worse that what we have now !

  • 45caliber

If they honestly counted all those who lost their jobs and are no longer able to draw unemployment, the jobless rate would be well above 10%. But according to the politicians, we need the illegals to come in and work at jobs Americans won’t work – which is a lie. The employers simply don’t have to pay them as much. Many don’t even pay minimum required payments.

    • Raggs

True.. It’s unskilled labor.. I guess thats why obama wants to send them to college on our dime so they can take up the middle class jobs next.. Boy that should make you stop and think!..
If we look at history we can see that free / subsidized college was and still is given to the black community all because “they deserve it” or “we did them wrong 5,000 years ago”… I don’t know about you but I have never owned a “slave”…

So the mexicans are the “new” black’s?.. or at least the ones that work in an “enslaved” enviroment?.. And I suppose now we have also misused them so the next 50 generations will have to pay for our mistakes?..

We really need to think about where this is going!
This is one of the main reasons I am so upset with the administration on amnesty!

      • 45caliber

I think the Dems see them as another “minority” group that can be manipulated to vote as a block like the blacks do. And I also think they see them as the fastest growing block if they can keep the citizens from forcing them to seal the border and get rid of them.

        • Raggs

Oh I suppose thats the excuse for all of the illegal BS on the border?
The fu-kers run in here like rats and the best we can do is give them a free ride!
Sence obama is a freakin muslim, I figure that this is par for the course.. It appears to me that the government thinks that.. If some of the people wake up shoot them.. and for the ones that do not wake up.. Grab their vote.. And for the ones that do not know the difference brib them.. And if you resist throw them in jail!
So we have to figure out where we stand…( or sit )
I myself will not sit with that bastards arm up my arse!

        • Granny Mae

You got it all figured out. There is a book out about Bill Clinton called Deraliction of Duty, and that book tells of how Clinton and Gore did just that very thing for the purpose of getting grattitude votes from immagrants ! Your not so far off you see. I understand that there are states in this country where the non citizen can vote ! I couldn’t believe it when I heard that. I said well if that is the case then why don’t we just send everyone in Mexico and Cannada a ballot and let them vote? I guess the sick reasoning behind the whole thing was that the immigrant is effected by the outcome of the voting so they thought they should be allowed to vote ! It is all B.S. and as far as I’m concerned only citizens of sound mind and body should be allowed to vote ! But the Democrates will take them any way they can get them even if it is illegal !

          • 45caliber

The Dems also want to allow the criminals in the pen to vote. As if they would be voting for law and order.

And don’t get me started about the Clintons. I grew up in Arkansas and left while he was still governor. As John Tower (ex-Senator from Texas Clinton appointed to be head of the Treasury who quit) said about the reason he quit: “We have felons in the White House and I’m not going to prison with them!”

      • Granny Mae

I have to laugh at what you said. Not that it was funny but it sure hits home. Guess what? I discovered the other night that two of my ancesters were white slaves or servants ! I wonder if I can cry foul too and get some money handed to me ? Nah. It never works in reverse does it?

  • Raggs

Has anyone figured out yet that the out sourcing of jobs to third world countries is exactly what the progressive / democratic socialist party want?… This is exactly what obama said he would do redistribute the wealth… At the time he said it I think nobody understood what he meant ( except for the freeloaders thinking it was for them which is some part it is )… So here we are….
Humm…. I wonder what will happen when the cap-n-tax passes? I think that I know….

    • Granny Mae

You are right so you get the prize behind door number three ! OH sorry I think all the doors are now empty ! So sad.

  • Warrior

3 years of unemployment benefits – 3 years??? – That is just incredible. The f-ing repubs should be neutered for agreeing to that.

NOTHING – I STATE NOTHING PROPOSED BY ANY PROGRESSIVE SHOULD EVER BE AGREED TO. Here’s the compromise I would offer these pigs. Leave this country now and we won’t throw you all in jail for treason!

Please God help us, aren’t there any responsible people left in our government.

    • http://none Mike

Warrior,The republicans have just handed the democrats what they wanted. That is the creation of a new welfare program. And they didnt even get it pre paid. They gave in to it being a debt program. I dont know where the answers are though. I cant support honest people who cant find jobs right now being kicked out on the street either.

I live in a part of my state where real unemployment numbers are 26%. I see honest people every day in my neighborhood that like me have put in 100,s of applications. And dont even get the curtiosy of an interview. Mainly because there just isnt anything left in the area.

Hopefully after the first of the year I am going to do something about that for at least a few in my area that are willing to work with me and help fire up my old company.Even that is going to take some time though and it will be hard for at least the first year or 2 because I plan on doing it shoe string this time.Mike L.

      • 45caliber

You can always sign on as a prison guard. Unfortunately, that is the only position that I know is always open because none of the states wants to pay more than $10 or so an hour for the work. And your “clients” are some that I wouldn’t want to deal with. I worked it for several months once partly from curiosity, but the only good thing I can say about it is that it is a job.

But to give you an idea of the government thought about it, they do call the convicts “clients” as if we are working for them instead of trying to keep them locked away from society.

        • Raggs

The white house should be called a “client” instead of the “master”!

        • http://none Mike

Yea I have a highschool frind here that is a guard at Brushy Mnt.He has been there for years. Hes been stabbed at least 3 or 4 times that I know of,spit on and other bodialy fluids thrown at him.(monkeys in a zoo)As a result he has to take a yearly HIV test and boosters for tetnius about the same. And yet the system protects the inmate more than it does the guard. Sad situation. Mike L.

      • Raggs

Mike.. It makes me wonder how this is called a recession.
Prehaps nobody wants to say the “D” word…
The carter years.. thank God it was brief.. produced the same effect in the economy.. Inflation / depression / government control.
The people then educated themselves enough to see the slime on the hog.. ( or in this case a peanut in the pants )..
Well many years later here we are again.
A slobbering idiot some would call “president” and a citizener that is asleep.

        • http://none Mike

Raggs, Its because the D word carries such a negitive connotation. If they can keep us talking about a recession that means its only temporary.Depression’s have a tendancy to last much longer and be much more destructive before a recovery. Mike L.

I hate to say this but I think the answer is no ! There are no responsible people in Washing D.C. In fact from a youtube I saw last night that Jay Leno had done on his show several times over the years, I don’t believe there are too many people with a brain left in this world and they all vote in the US. He went out on the street and asked people at random simple questions like who was the first president of the US and the answer he got was Benjimin Franklin ! All the questions were that simple and all of them were answered with that same stupidity ! I couldn’t even laugh at it because it was so pathetic ! We need a truck load of prayer my friend !

      • libertytrain

Better check the new version history books – after all many of the folks he questions “got college” educations, several have been teacher’s etc. so perhaps he was the first president in the current version. :) :D

  • Raggs

I can figure what he would be going through if he where a citizen of the us?

I don’t agree totally with him, I think he lacks a moral foundation as with our government.. He is playing poker..
I think we are the cards in the game, but this time the winner does not take the pot..
We have a “president” if you want to call him that.. That has the deck stacked…

I think I made my point!

  • Al Sieber

I once seen someone holding a sign saying “I won’t lie, I’ll work for beer”, I gave him $5 for his honesty, and he ended up working for me.

We have to sink more in order to get actual change. In short, the dollar needs to collapse. Unemployment needs to mean that govt bureaucrats can’t be paid. In other words, we need to sink more, far more, in order to recover from a century of socialism. When the dollar collapses, we rebuild. We rebuild with a dollar based upon the gold standard. And, I might also add, a silver standard. Then, manufacturing jobs that pay a family wage, instead of service sector wages, which are crap.

Bush tax cuts? Or extending unemployment benefits? Why not eliminate the income tax totally. Get rid of the sixteenth amendment. Then watch the economy grow. Wouldn’t it be great if people were allowed to keep what they earned? And invest it back into the economy? Including the rich?

Most importantly, govt bureaucrats need to go away. Get a real job. If there are any real jobs to get. There needs to be a worthless dollar to pay them. Then, perhaps, govt bureaucrats would go away. Stop preying on honest citizens for their livelihood. Including state and county bureaucrats. This includes building inspectors, health inspectors, traffic cops, anyone who preys upon the people, anyone who holds a job that assaults individual freedom. Then, perhaps we can recover in such a matter that individual freedom is the highest priority.

If the economy was to recover now, with absolutely no reform such as adhering to the constitution, nothing will have been accomplished. It is my prayer, the economy sinks to nothing. Then, perhaps we can rebuild in such as a matter of a sound dollar, and jobs that pay a family wage. And most of all, a society where the individual is supreme. Perhaps.

    • 45caliber

The real problem is that even if all non-government employees are laid off and no money is coming in to the government, they will simply print more money to pay for the government employees. So that won’t work very well.
