Jefferson Recommends An ‘Interdiction Of All Useless Expenses’

February 28, 2013 by

As the overhyped sequester approaches, the President and Congress are discussing (in public if not with each other) ways to avoid it by reducing government spending and/or raising taxes. During these discussions, they should all keep in mind the words of Thomas Jefferson in a letter to Marquis de Lafayette:

[A] rigid economy of the public contributions and absolute interdiction of all useless expenses will go far towards keeping the government honest and unoppressive.

Such a mindset would be a welcome change from the past 100 years’ worth of ever-growing and unbridled spending that have brought the country to default.

In today’s “progessive” world, Jefferson would just be another one of those “cranky old white guys” and the rest of his “ilk” would be termed “extremist” or “American Taliban”. And so the “die has been cast”. I suggest everyone prepare because it is not going to be “pretty”.

Sockpuppet Van Jones’ – “top down/bottom up” strategy is in full bloom. The “elites” are pushing for the “day of reckoning” and frankly I believe that day is coming and soon! Just view the progressive “reaction” to this “sequestor business”. Does anyone believe we’re witnessing “responsible adults” in action? This whole “charade” is maddening and sickening to behold.

INTERESTING USE OF QUOTATION MARKS, “Warrior.”

“INTERESTING USE OF QUOTATION MARKS, “Warrior.”

Interesting, if rude, (mis)use of capital letters.

And…unfortunately, the people that understand what is truly going on in America, and the ultimate outcome we will be witnessing, are a very slim minority. The hyper-ignorant masses are a relatively new concept in America. Created by the secular humanists through our “public school” system, revisionist history and dumbing down. 3rd graders in my grandparents generation knew more about true American history, our proper role as citizens, and civics, than the average college grad in the current generation. This is not an accident. Ask bill ayers.

It’s a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
We aren’t in this mess because anyone is under taxed.
In the 90′s the government shut down.
We were told any non-essential offices were shut down and non-essential worker were told not to come to work.
My first thought was “why are we supporting non-essential offices and employees.” They are already shut down, leave them shut down. Less expense we don’t need.
Live within your means isn’t a difficult concept.

Government acts like a living thing. A parasite. It’s primary goal is to grow. I does so by CREATING out of whole cloth new missions for itself that require additional functionaries, agencies and minions that coincidentally expand its’ power and authority. This action, throughout history, requires an increase in taxes that continues until the system collapses or the people revolt.

      Hi Michael,
I understand what you mean, but government is not alive, nor does it have a conscience. It cannot be expected to have integrity nor honesty, as it is not a person. It is people, individuals, that operate outside the scope of the constitution and their authority to take money from productive people and WASTE it in order to gain votes from the moochers. We need to hold each and every single person that does this accountable for their actions. But, since America has unfortunately reached the point where more people vote for a living than work for a living, the collapse is just a matter of time. We the people are the government. As long as we fail to hold the “leadership” accountable, and would rather look to them for free food, free housing, free education, free cell phones, etc., on the backs of the productive class, we are doomed. Period. I think the last election (as sickening as it is), spells it our very clearly for us. America has chosen socialism and progressive idiology over individualism and personal responsibility. The beginning of the end.
