It’s A Duesy!

September 29, 2010 by

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard anyone say “It’s a doozy!” when they were describing something truly remarkable. And no wonder. The car that inspired the phrase has not been made for seven decades.

It was on Sept. 30, 1937, that the very last Duesenberg rolled off the assembly line. At the time, the “Duesy” was regarded as the epitome of flamboyance and extravagance. The most luxurious car in the world, each one was handcrafted and custom-made. However, this symbol of opulence suffered during the hard times of the Great Depression. Ten years after the car made its first appearance, the company that built them shut its doors forever.

In this new era of ostentation, with several luxury automobiles selling for $250,000 and more, I’m surprised no one is making a modern version of the Duesenberg. If there’s a car enthusiast reading this with more money than sense, you’re welcome to the idea. For my "thank you," could I borrow one for a week?

While I wouldn’t have a Duesenberg if they were still made today, I have no problems with someone else owning one. If they were well-made, then it’s too bad the company didn’t survive longer.
While we’re talking about “duesies,” here’s one for the books (health books, that is). Scum who represent the corn-based sweetener industry are putting the arm on Congress so they can call high fructose corn syrup “sugar” and put it on labels. Anybody who cares about their health knows what that means.
It means 1) semantics is the official language in Congress and 2) the miserable, stinking, scumbag,
criminal sunny beaches and mammy jammers in Congress are finding more ways to sell their sorry asses – AGAIN.

Chip, I have tried several times and even asked Bill Cherry to get in touch with you. As you probably know, I have authored a conservative book. Bill said he enjoyed it very much. Many conservatives have read it and bragged on it. You can check it out on my website. I would love to send you a gift copy with the idea that you would read it and if you like it, give me a little publicity on your Personal Liberty Digest. If you want, I will mail you a copy. Just tell me where to send it. I enjoy reading your Personal Liberty Letter.

How about that? I distinctly remember tumbling down some steps at school in my home town of Chatswood, Sydney AUS, in probably 1962 – and then saying to the kids behind me “watch that last step, it’s a doozy!”. Now, at 60, I just found out where the expression came from. Funny world indeed.
