It Feels So Good

February 10, 2011 by

In response to a discussion of a deflationary depression versus an inflationary depression, readers often ask me if a “soft landing” is possible. I guess the answer to that question depends on how you define soft landing.

If by soft landing, you mean we will somehow muddle through, things will calm down on their own and we will not experience a great deal of pain, the answer is no. But if your definition of soft landing is an economy that declines slowly, without violent revolution, I would say such a scenario is possible.

There are a number of complex factors at play here, but let’s begin with the most obvious one: Human nature. I believe it was Groucho Marx who told the joke about a man standing on a street corner, hitting himself over the head with a hammer. When asked why he would inflict such pain on himself, the guy answered, “Because it feels so good when I stop.”

Groucho’s joke reminds me of just how adaptable human beings are. After all, Americans have been hitting themselves over the head with a financial hammer for decades, but they’ve become so used to it that they are immune to the pain. Human beings seem to have an uncanny ability to adapt to discomfort.

Which is why, in the past, most producers continued to create wealth even when their taxes rose to draconian levels. During World War II, the top tax rate reached 94 percent, and it remained at 91 percent until 1964. With such astronomical tax rates in effect, it’s amazing that we managed to survive — but we did.

So, yes, I believe people could get used to the lower living standards that are on the horizon once resignation sets in — provided the drop isn’t too fast. But since President Barack Obama and his progressive pals took control of things in Washington, we’ve experienced a dramatic drop in living standards in a very short period of time, and that has gotten people’s attention.

Many are talking about postponing retirement, or not retiring at all; cutting back on — or completely eliminating — vacations has already started; dining out four nights a week is becoming a thing of the past; and soon people won’t be able to afford to buy those high-priced tickets to sporting events that fill sports stadiums and arenas from coast to coast.

In this respect, Obama’s fake move toward the center could be the best thing that ever happened to his spread-the-wealth agenda. To the extent government infringements on individual rights are spread over a longer period of time, Americans are more likely to adapt to a progressively lower standard of living. It’s not really muddling through; it’s muddling downward — in stages — one step at a time, and giving people a chance to adapt to the next lower standard.

If you’re thinking gradualism, you’re right. It has worked like magic for the U.S. government for at least a hundred years, and it could once again protect politicians against outright rebellion. By contrast, a quick and total deflationary collapse would not be peaceful because, unlike 1929, a huge percentage of today’s population has a deeply ingrained entitlement mindset.

But what about producers? Won’t they stop producing? Not at first. I believe that, at least for a while, producers will keep producing even as they have to share ever-larger pieces of their pie with non-producers.

At some point, however — and no one knows exactly when that point will be reached — producers will escape to Galt’s Gulch. It may not be a physical place, as in Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, but, one by one, they will stop producing. And if things get too bad, many will simply expatriate.

Which brings me back to a soft landing. It may be hard to accept, but a gradual lowering of the living standards of most Americans would be more harmful over the long term than a rapid and complete collapse of the U.S. economy.

As an analogy, immediately after 9/11 a vast majority of Americans were fighting mad and the general tone of the public was patriotic. Today, the radical Islamic threat is far greater than it was right after 9/11, but because there have been no major attacks on U.S. soil, the “war on terror” is no longer a high priority in most people’s minds. Americans have gotten used to the idea that terrorists are spread throughout the U.S. pretending to be everyday citizens, so they have mentally adapted to the threat.

The point is that everything, no matter how damaging it may be to our well-being, becomes normal to us over a period of time. An abused woman comes to believe her situation is normal. A kid who is bullied in school comes to believe his situation is normal.

My concern is that if we keep hitting ourselves over the head with the hammer of a slow collapse of our economy, Americans will gradually get used to a step-by-step lower standard of living, the result being that they will come to think of each new level as normal. No rebellion — just a nice, soft landing.

Which is why, if it’s important to you that your children and grandchildren live better than you’re living today, you should pray for things to unravel quickly — followed by a successful counter-revolution in the form of educating the public about both the morality and practicality of freedom and free enterprise.

The truth no one wants to face up to is that we cannot start rebuilding America until we hit bottom and admit that we no longer have a republic, that our government is corrupt and out of control, that our Constitution has become irrelevant to our rulers and that our debt can never be repaid. As I have said so often, most people do not love truth; instead, they try to make true that which they love.

Speaking for myself, investing the time, energy and discomfort involved in fighting for freedom trumps a slow and peaceful slide into servitude any day of the week.

Call me a pessimist, but as long as the current prez wants us to think jobs are important [as long as we TALK about it, that is], then everything is beautiful and he rates another 4 years in Washington.
Apparently, the pretender-in-chief thinks he can juggle government stats and placate the masses while the economy tanks and the middle class is wiped out. I’d hate to think what would happen if the White House whiz kid didn’t like Americans. It’s so nice to know that he “loves” us.

    • JR

Do you really believe that any future president will be any better or have a different agenda then the current one?
Look at what has happened the last 60 years and the resulting decline and you will see, that independent who is in congress or WH the slope goes down.
Tthe next president builds on the last and the next congress builds on the last.
In the overall picture, what we want is of no importance as the future presidents are already picked and we the people only have the choice between 2 faces with the same agenda. Now they will go after that agenda while pretending they are on the right, in the middle or on the left…..its pretending only. The agenda is set, the goal is set and the presidents and congress are nothing but puppets on the string of the rich that direct them from behind the curtain. They always will give a little and take a lot to appease the masses…but it does not mater how much they give…they still march on in the same direction as planed.

How to stop Obama? He is transforming America. Should American people wait until 2012? We need strong political opposition against Obama’s administration. American people should stop scam in the White house. We need acting now otherwise it would be late. I believe, in this situation many educated Americans with money will leave U.S but most of Americans will stay and live in poverty. Governments are corrupt.

        • Dan

We have had the opportunity to elect Ron Paul, who strongly believes in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. But there are too many of us that are more interested in watching football and TV and other stuff that they can do while sitting on their couch. They prefer to listen to what a politician tells them instead of checking out for themselves what that politician is all about. Even though finding the information is easy to obtain via the internet.
So we they keep electing the same trash that keeps feeding them stuff they can’t or won’t deliver.

      • JC in CA

JR, you are so close to the nail, you just need to swing to hit it.

You have to look behind the ‘green’ curtain as our society has been shaped by our declining Christian values and the spread of Covet disease….buy this, you can buy that.

Remember the sayings we’ve all heard and grew up desiring?… ‘Man, if i could get that Gov’t Job, I’d be set for life.’ Well that was the hidden agenda…all the while stealing from our childrens’ children’s futures.

Well, our past gov’ts and future gov’ts have/will continue perpetrating this, foisting more and more crippling disease among us all. The lies of the Fed (you know that private international company ‘in charge’ of all of our futures) and the stuffed shirted puppets in our gov’t are a bit late…we need that quick unraveling as suggested by this article.

And, please keep all hands inside the ‘vehicles’ until it comes to a complete stop.

        JC

        • Mike In MI

Yah, well maybe, JC in CA -
But, the Fed just does the bidding of their bosses and they of their BOSS – ultimately for those scum-on-the-settlement-pond-surface the Devil.
I remember the last President the USA had, Ronald Reagan, said something like: “America is the world’s last hope for freedom. If we lose it here there’s no place else to go.”
Yep, Splitfoot pretty much has it all under his thumb. There’s only two things he has to do, yet, to secure world dominance forever: (a)Get rid of all the Jews; and, (b) Take away any access to get hold of a Bible (That way no one can learn about the true God, and what can be done in individual’s hearts and lives in the name of Jesus Christ. Individuals, who know and believe something about Him, that’s where history’s advancements have always started. When the books start to burn again…you’ll know why.)

      • EddieW

You are right!!! BECAUSE…regardless who is Prez…CFR is calling the shots!!
We need candidates who are not part of the “committee”!! Obaba has proven to be more obedient to their desires than past presidents, but this has been their goal for the last 60 years!! and it gets worse…much worse..called New World Order…we slaves with no voice!!and a life only if they decide we can live!! It Is Coming!!! whether sooner or later depending on how obedient the CFR member Prez. is!!

      • 2WarAbnVet

        Couldn’t have a worse one!

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

No sir, one does not build on another as you say. Carter sat there and did nothing. Nothing at all. Ford was just there, not good, not bad. Reagan turned it all around, ended the cold war, and gave us the most prosperous times weve had, and set in motion things that carried us through 4 years of Bush one, who maintained it, and it took 6 years of Clinton, cutting the military in half, cutting intelligence in half, selling our jobs to Mexico, selling our technology to China, and other things we continually seem to find out about, and he killed the economy and put us in a recession. Then Bush 2 dug us out of it, and once again things were going good, until his last year, when all business knew he couldnt run again, and the democrats were coming into power, thanks largely in part to the propaganda spread by the national media, and millions of dollars of adds to an uneducated public, chanting change, change, change, and the economy started going down. But unlike the previous admin, who in two years turned a recession into a rolling economy, this admin has snow balled it downhill, from 4.5 unemployement to 10 percent and rising again. They have done nothing. And it will take another Republican to come in, and put the economy back on its feet again, and it will happen. So dont say one follows the other, because there is a big difference. And I pray that the Republicans have came back to the conservatism that made them good, and get control on spending. That is where they have failed. But the dems have failed on that, on jobs, on defense, on national affairs, on the economy, and everything they have touched. I give them an F minus. And dont be so quick to blame Obama, as he is just the figure head. Come on now. The guy is no leader. That is plain obvious. He does what ever the party tells him to do, and reads whatever they put on his teleprompter. He has no leadership qualities about it. I think by now that should be obvious to everyone.

    • CWS

We will never again see a stable America without force coming from Americans. The voting system is a sham and it doesn’t matter whom you vote for, the crooked system is overwhelming all of us. We need to get it right, NOW!!! The streets of this country will look much like Egypt, with the riots and protests. It will be even worse if we wait too long. We need to put the power back in the hands of the people.

      • skip

What was amazing about Egypt’s protests is that they were absolutely non-violent, except for the national police. Passive resistance, not a single gun, not a single shot from the protesters, and they succeeded in getting what they wanted, or at least closer to being able to vote. We were all able to vote last November, and two Novembers before that, yet what I read in these blogs that you all want to use your second amendment rights to carry and use firearms to get what you want. What has gone wrong, tell me – why do we have to use guns and the Egyptian’s did it all without violence. And there was no radical islam or muslim brotherhood apparent at all. And most of them spoke better English than we do, and dressed much better, and there weren’t many overweight people either. We have gone off the edge of the earth here – I agree with you.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

You are missing one thing. You seem to think it is bad here, you need to go over there, or to Iran. Those people are protesting for one thing, and one thing only. They want to be free like we are. You seem to be missing that. They want to be free.

  • http://deleted Claire

Personally, I think they all should get on the ball and fly “right.” No pun intended. It is time to stop going off half-cocked and start using the brains God gave them. It is time to stop their shenanigans. It is time for the powers that be to think about America first, not their party loyalties and who will win in 2012. As I have said before, this is serious, no more fun and games. No more fooling around. Politicians have been on an ego trip and they have been busy pushing their own “agendas” and personal “goals.” It is time to stop the “scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” mentality. Another item, the middle class has been shrinking for decades. The economy, jobs, the war, the illegals should be dealt with first. To me, actions speak louder than words.

    • DaveH

      Claire,
They aren’t going to behave willingly. How many people do? Most people I know will cast their morality aside if it means a little more money in their pockets. The only way to possibly change things will be for the voters to become informed and throw the rascals out every election until the remaining incumbents have learned to respect our freedom.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Thank you Dave. You are very correct. These guys are polluted by money, and it is their god. And it is true, wherever you have a large pile of money, your going to have people fighting over it to get ahold of it and the power that comes with it. Thats why it is written in the Bible, “It is easier to thread a camel through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven”. And its not that its bad to be rich, it isnt. But God surely knows the temptations it brings, and the corruption that follows it. I have watched those shows on people who won the lottery, and 5 years later their life was destroyed and they were in worse shape than when they won. I have seen guys become rich, and when they got 1 million, they needed 2, and they got 2 and needed 3, and it never stops. Most people like that, I assure you all, are pretty miserable. Not all, some have their hearts and minds in the right place, and can balance it, but not many. And our lawyers that run the politics in this country and the legal systems, are the worst Ive ever seen.

  • http://www.poorgrandchildren.com Poorgrandchildren

Mr. Livingston, thank you for reminding everyone that we used to have a republic and not a “wonderful” democracy. In democracies, individuals have the right to vote and no others. Once the best organized mob in a de-mob-ocracy has spoken, EVERYONE has to march in lockstep with it.

    • vicki

Last week I watched a small sample of democracy in action. A group of 10-15 surrounded 1 person. They voted to take his truck. SO they did. They voted to beat him up. So they did. Democracy has come to Egypt.

Here instead is a video on the types of government (including voting to take a guys horse instead of truck) And why the one we had is the best one fro a moral people.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4r0VUybeXY

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

So are you saying you dont like freedom that democracy brings? Or should we bow down to the minority groups more like our country does now that is pissing everyone off?

        • Vicki

I do not like the freedom democracy brings. Neither did the founders of the United States. Nor will you when a majority come for your house and your business.

          Actually WATCH the entire video.
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4r0VUybeXY

It even discusses how the Romans went astry (just as our government has) and covers your example (“bow down to the minority groups”)

History has shown us the answers. We only need to learn.

        • Vicki

There is of course Benjamin’s view (The Patriot)

“Would you tell me please, Mr. Howard… why should I trade one tyrant 3,000 miles away for 3,000 tyrants one mile away?”
          http://www.hark.com/clips/tqqkkllkfk-3000-tyrants-one-mile-away

  • Dennis

The American people have a major problem, it is short term memory loss. Today most people do not know or care what happened on 9/11. People today only care about the pleasure they can get from life. I would bet that most people do not realize that freedom is not and never will be free. It will demand that people sacrifice in order to live free. Our present “guvment” and leaders are only interested in what they can get for themselves. The Congress has forgotten they work for us the people, this has happened because people fail to get involved and vote. The dems and obama are intent on having a socialized style “guvment”, where each of us depend on the “guvment” to supply our needs. We have become a dependent society. It is past time for people to put actions behind there words, vote in mass and stop this BS now.

    • http://foundersrevolution.blogspot.com/ Patriot1776

      Keep dreamin’

    • Les

I keep hearing how the “Dems” are all socialists, while the “Reps” are all about the Constitution. Well here’s some news for you, Every Tea Party Candidate voted for continuation of the Patriot Act.

I happen to be a conservative. They are not working for the “people”.

      • JR

Because they fell for the name…they think just because its called “The Patriotic Act” it means its patriotic. Names don’t mean anything, but people fall for it all the time.

        • bob wire

Well these labels and titles are indeed confusing. ` And if you are one that depends on them to form you ideas and opinion, you are guilty of adding insult to injury.

It’s not enough to listen to what they say, but pay close attention to what they do.

Like a duck,~ ducks fly in group formation, walk and quack like a duck. Ducks don’t burrow, don’t bark, don’t commit provoking attacks on other fowl, don’t eat meat, and only then might you truly accept it as a duck.

Today and for many years really, politics has became a game of bait and switch. The voters are and have been enticed, lured in with labels and titles.

The reasons for this is simple enough, IT WORKS! and they want both your money and your support.

We have two “KINDS” of politicians out there today really, ~ Oh I know they go by many labels and many titles. But there is really only two.

These two kinds are both guilt of saying darn near anything to get your support leaving the dividing different in what they do once they get in office.

At this point, it starts getting personal and very subjective with each of us and when we might be pleased or disappointed.

Now we can dive into all the difference labels and different kinds of governments and the one most favored, the one most desired, our founders intentions until Gabriell brows his horn.

But in the end, it’s broils down to your own point of view.

Here is the divide, once they get into office SOME forget why they are there, who sent them there and develop this sense it’s for big business interest to reign supreme and the lesser citizens are to be fleeced by the crafting of laws that restrict freedoms and liberties to pay huge profits to special interest.

Special Interest with these huge profit attempts to assure these politicians might keep these lofty position and the circle is unbroken by as many means that might be at their disposal.

And then we have the “Other Politicians” the ones that don’t forget who sent them and why they came to Capital Hill. They are the special ones, The Rand Pauls, the Gabrielle Giffords, there are many, but still a minority, they are left to live , fight and work inside this cesspool environment that we call Capital Hill and deserve both our respect and support.

A Republic or a Democracy ~ means very little by themselves but it’s the men and women that truly subscribe to these ideas and carry forward and support these principals is where the final results will left to lie.

Today, we are seeing a beginning, ushered in by both “O” and the Tea Party pressures. It takes the extremist to ever make change possible and it take the catalysis to focus the process.

Believe it or not, I’m very optimistic, for I believe after 30 years, people have finally woke up.

It’s just a shame, that I’m now half dead and won’t see the end of this horror movie.

      • Charlie

Les you are wrong. 26 New Tea Party candidates voted against extending the so-called Patriot Act. That is why it did not pass.
        There is still hope !

      • barbm

quico canseco, a tea party candidate that we got elected, voted to keep the patriot act. i just got off the phone with his office. poor kid who answered got an ear full. yes, i believe as quico does that the main reason to have a federal govt is to levy taxes to raise an army to keep us safe. however, when our borders are this porous, there is no safety. and, when you step on my constitutional rights because of 9/11 terrorists, they won. the best way to keep us safe from terrorists is to get and keep muslims out of our cuntry. the best way to do that is bring home our troops and station them along the borders on all 4 sides. put a soldier every 10 feet and shoot anything not moving out. if they know they’ll be shot on sight, they’ll stop coming. that would keep out terrorists and illegal aliens.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Give me the Tea Party and the Patriot Act over Obama and socialism and going into a back room and illegally ramming a health care plan down the throat of 70 percent or more of a population that doesnt want it. Yeah. How do you like me now. Tap my phone calls, but dont force your stinking health care on me.

    • Al Sieber

Dennis, who the hell do we vote for we can really trust?

The American people have a major problem, it is short term memory loss. Today most people do not know or care what happened on 9/11.
      *******************

Memory loss period and a shortage of rational thought.

Reagan campaigned on the “National debt being the biggest threat to national security” then he TRIPLED the national debt.

George Bush cut taxes by 400 billion then increased spending by 400 billion for two wars. Which DOUBLED the national debt again.

GWB started all of the wallstreet bailouts, but most blame Obama for for socialism.

The republicans have vowed to cut spending by 100 billion – yet from 2000-2006 they INCREASED spending by five times that amount.
It is just not politicians that are out of control – the American public needs to start paying attention quit being so easily duped….

      • JC in CA

BigBadJohn,…don’t forget the Fed acting on it’s own with the QE and QE2…ON THEIR OWN…WITH THEIR OWN $$, buying more of our debt forcing the US Treasury to devalue our Dollar even faster.

Oh to go back in time…Some time around 1912ish…I’d hang out on some east coast island and set up ‘shop’ selling ‘starbucks’ in a hotel or something….

        JC

      • Patricia

BigBadJohn Is your memory so short that you forget the Dems had control of congress the last two years of President Bush’ last term? that was your dear Pelosi and Reid that took care of that. It makes me tired to keep hearing it was Bush’s fault. Wake up and read the history of the Hard=Headed morons who have really done the damage

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

It isnt cheap paying for Hurricane Katrina, 9-11, and a war against terrorist who struck us on our own soil. Of course we could have just pulled a Clinton, and not done a damn thing, over and over again. Get over yourself, you prostitute the truth, and leave out all these costly, neccessary things. You want to be a pacifist and curl up in a ball and hope these terrorists leave you alone, go ahead. But it aint going to happen pal. They are coming after us all. Got it? They arent going away. They want us dead, and until they are dead or we are dead, they are going to continue with their zeal for our deaths. Do you understand this at all, or are you just plain stupid. I need to know, because evidently you dont know who these guys are, but I assure you, some of us have done our homework pal, and we know exactly who they are. And they arent leaving, unless we make them.

    • chow

The problem is we have more people depending on the government and people that don’t want to learn or care. We can vote all we want but to no avail. It will not change anything because there are more of them than us.

The only solution is to revolt and I don’t mean like they do in Egypt but more like the American revolution or even the US civil war. All we need are true leaders to lead, start with our rebel representatives away from the Federal, refuse paying taxes.

      • Dick Gazinia

Armed revolt… killing your neighbors because they disagree about some abstract political philosophy that many don’t understand? Are you serious. Have you ever been in combat?

In Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia we were killing and getting killed by a lot villagers who had never heard of Karl Marx and the communist manifesto. They thought we were alien invaders and they were defending their homeland. Those of us who were lucky enough to come back carry baggage that grows heavier with the years… what the brave young people now fighting in the Middle East for us will experience when they come home.

I will never again raise a weapon against another human being for political reasons. These reasons are trumped up BS that will change as per politicians expediency. The only excuse to turn to deadly violence is to defend life against assault, or if our country is invaded by a foreign power.

You want another Civil War? Please… if you don’t like who is in power, VOTE them out. If you feel killing people over it is justified, you are just like Al Qida or the Taliban, and the world has enough of those.

        • Conservative at Birth

It is unfotunate that it may be too late, for anything but a civil war.

          • Dick Gazinia

No “true leader” would initiate an armed revolt in our republic.

        • RivahMitch

          Sorry, Dick…

We disagree. I also experienced Vietnam (USMC 1967-69) and I remember sitting, many years later, with a friend (who had served in the Air Force and bagged bodies for return) from that battleground. At that (later) time, we both shed tears of concern for young troops as Bush I geared up for Iraq 1 and I feel deeply for those serving in the middle east today. Never-the-less, when the scum from Washington come for my home, my healthcare, my lightbulbs and my lifestyle, I’m quite ready to act as a militia should…. my oath of service was to defend the Constitution against ALL enemies, foreign or domestic and my personal right is to defend myself, my family and my property against thuggery and theft whether by individuals of an unconstitutional government. It’s not a question of “wanting another civil war”. It’s more along the lines of Patrick Henrys’ question “Is life so dear or peace so sweet…..” and Winston Churchills’ answer:

“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly” (and I think we’d agree that those times are past),”you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

Personally, my life is worth no less to me now than it was 44 years ago when I enlisted in the Corps, but my freedom is worth more. I wash my children and theirs to have the same freedoms I’ve enjoyed. IMHO, that’s worth dying and worth killing for.

I agree with everything you said Dick, except for one thing. I will raise arms up again, against these middle eastern terrorists who want us dead. I would have no qualms about eliminating them if they come after me and mine. No doubt about it. They have vowed death to me, my family and my country, and they will not stop until they are dead and gone, and if they show themselves as coming here and after me and my family, I will no doubt raise arms against them. But I wont raise my arms against my neighbor just because he is an uneducated democrat. No sir, I wouldnt do that. People cant help being stupid.

our government won’t be happy until we are like mexican people living in the street being killed all the time and we are really getting there . hate speech, people from other countrys and our own talk about how they hate our country well go home or to a country where they think like you do . people that speak about our freedom are the ones that are put down in our country. this country is going to hell and a hand basket.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Sad thing is, those at the top, allow all other countries and it peoples to spit on the U.S., accost us, persecute our Christian beliefs, and attack our way of life, and if any of us says anything against them, then our own legal system of judges and lawyers turns against us, and rules in favor of our enemies. Just like Obama giving terrorists lawyers to defend them for trying to kill our soldiers. This is the left wing liberals, and how they think. They are a dangerous lot.

  • A different perspective

There are several things I got from this article and the comments that I’d like to point out. First of all, there isn’t any point in voting since we cannot even get the candidates that we want into the election process, its all about who has enough money and political clout to even get on the ballot, so voting is not an option anymore.
Secondly, lowering our standards of living is NOT a bad thing. All the “things” that we worked so hard for, that were supposed to bring us happiness did NOT! So, perhaps the word “lowering” (our standard of living) should be revised to “reformulating” our standard of living, as in do we really need so many “things” or do we need to end each day being happy with our family, knowing we were able to put our own home-grown food on the table, that we do not need to go out to eat, or to the stadium for our entertainment, I’m sure you have the picture.
Third, we need to understand that we DO have choice in determining our values and how we live and we do NOT need to be aggressive to do so. The screaming, the yelling, the name-calling, all works in favor of the overall “grand scheme” of our current “system”. If we were to simply try to be a bit more self-sufficient, grow our own food, cut out the luxuries that many of us call necessities, and stop demanding that each and every one of has the “right solution” and wanting others to follow our mindset, I think we would be better off.
It’s a matter of “I will live the way that works best for me, and I will respect your choice to live with what’s best for you”. As long as there is first and foremost self-respect and respect for others, there is no reason for any loud, violent opposition. Its sounds alturistic, I realize, but if you think about it, why do we need to buy into the “I want what my neighbor has” attitude? Your neighbors priorities are not yours! But all the same, respect him for his priorities and don’t try to convince him he is wrong, or worse, don’t try to destroy/take way what is important to him AS LONG AS HE PROVIDES for his OWN priorites BY HIMSELF!

        • chow

Toomuchsense, you are correct in your criticism of Homeboy. These people (democrats) just couldn’t handle they lost the election. They want to recount until the result they want is the outcome. How many times did they recount in FL during that election? How many hanging chads, klingon chads and intended votes were counted? That election became a farce much like the election of Murray in Washington and Franken in Minnesota. They have to recount several time and keep finding votes from somewhere to get the outcome they want.

Get over it man, will you already. Gore lost because he didnt get enough votes. And lest you forget, there were millions, and I mean millions of military votes that were never even counted, because they came back late. Why – because the democrat in charge of mailing them out purposely waited and waited. But hey, they werent needed, as Bush already won the electoral vote, which is how it is ran. But rest assured, had these millions of military votes been counted, need I remind you that over 90 percent of them would have been for Bush. Oh, you dont want to consider that I know, but then again, it is the truth, so put that in your pipe and smoke it. And what, are you nuts or something. Al Gore? You would have wanted Al Gore, the guy who admitted he lied about his so called global warming scam to get rich? Your a loser home boy, thats all there is too it. If you cannot to this day, see who Al Gore is, and be damn glad he didnt get elected, then you sir, are not much of an American. It would have been disastrous.

I hope we can continue to throw the corrupt people out of Congress and throw a few out of the White House in the next election. In the mean time, keep on communicating with your congressmen and senators to do the right things, and thank them when they do vote in the correct way even if they lose the ultimate vote in Congress.

The people don’t know it, but the government is their enemy. We are embarked on a strategy of robbing every single dollar of it’s value and both Democrats and Republican politicians know it. By publishing and controlling statistics we can make the people believe that the deficit can be reduced by cutting spending or increasing taxes. If we tell the people inflation is 2% while we increase the money supply by 9%, we’ll have half their savings and buying power in 10 years. And honest anger is the most effective driving force. Learn the TRUTH. Acknowledge fear and greed. Drum up some anger. Do SOMETHING about it. For example, get off the couch/fence.

So, if I’m understanding Mr. Ringer correctly, he embraces 1/2 of the Big Government problem — the Military State. So why would anything change? We will just keep vascillating between the military state and the nanny state as government keeps growing until our economy eventually collapses.
Think about this. Keep in mind I’m not dissing our good military personel who are just pawns in the Big Government power games. Our Military is overseas supposedly “protecting our freedom” by killing people who have presented no direct threat to our citizens. But here at home when terrorists actually attack and kill our citizens what does our “protective” Government do with them? They put them up in the prison hotels at our expense is what. Have any of those islamic terrorists who have actually killed people here been put to death?
Oh sure, Timothy McVeigh was, but he wasn’t islamic. Why were they in such a hurry to end Timothy’s life? Could it be they were afraid he’d talk? Or was it just that the lives he took were the “important” people — Government people?

If the author is talking about the middle and upper class I totally agree with his comments. However, If you are poor, out of work and already finding it hard to feed your family, the authors description does not apply. As the economy gets worse and prices rise, the family man has little choice but to do what is takes for his family to survive. Remember, 43 million of us are on food stamps. there may be a soft landing, but, I wouldn’t count on it.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

I have found that over 94 percent of homeless people are there by their own doing, mostly with drugs and alcohol, and out of those 94 percent, up to 90 percent are capable of doing something about it, like getting a job, but they dont want to get off drugs, pot and alcohol. And most of the people on unemployment and food stamps, are capable of getting jobs and working, but they just dont want to. Such as my future lazy arse son in law, who says why work when the government is paying to stay home. There are jobs, people just arent willing to start at something lower and put in the time and work their way up like they used to. You know, the world owes them a living. Ive been in and out of jobs 8 times, because of plant closings or plants relocating, and Ive always taken a lesser job, and moved up to one paying a little, more, then found a better one, and worked my way to where I was making good money. I didnt have no rich daddy, I never went to college. I apply myself where I worked at, and I always advanced because I did what my daddy taught me, to work hard and youll get somewhere. It never has let me down. But Ill see lazy butt guys moping around milking the job, screwing the company, and sooner or later, they get caught one time too many, and they are gone. Cant blame that on the economy. There are jobs, you just gotta want it, thats all. I know, Ive been there, and done that, and Im no smarter than any one else. I just believe in applying myself and working hard. Thats what I was taught.

  • Demoncrat Exorcist

The Republicans campaigned on the pledge to slash government spending, and then came back this year and passed the Food Modernization Act that created another big government bureaucracy and added an estimated $1.4 billion in new debt.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the costs to the private sector have not been calculated but would likely reach into the hundreds of millions of dollars annually to comply with the new regulations – millions that will be passed along to the consumer.

Note: Jesse Ventura said the Democrats and Republicans posture in public then turn around and go to dinner together and laugh at the voters who put them in office.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

So, how did the Republicans do all this, when the democrats are in control of congress and the presidency? How does the majority of democrats that passed this, if it passed, get a free pass? Seems to me, if something passes, and the majority is democrats, wouldnt it be a democratic thing? So how do you blame the Republicans? Amazing. You might want to rethink that.

  • Don

Obviously Bob Wire, it’s people like you that are the problem, the ones that don’t read !!!!

  • Demoncrat Exorcist

For many Americans, we still remember the Clinton administration when the Republicans claimed that Clinton had moved to the middle, but reality points to the fact that Republicans moved left and embraced Clinton’s agenda. How did we get such job and industry killing legislation as NAFTA and GATT passed if the Republicans were against Clinton’s leftist agenda?

Since the passage of these unfair trade bills, the economy has had to rely on a constant increase in the level of national debt to sustain economic growth, and the current debt level is proof of that. The U.S. economy has been steadily declining since those leftist bills were passed. We lost our industry, security, jobs, and prosperity to foreign nations; our leftist politicians exported it to Mexico and China.

On top of that, the Constitution gives Congress sole power to regulate trade with foreign powers, but a Republican controlled Congress decided to, “unconstitutionally”, turn that control over to the World Trade Organization. Our sovereignty as a nation was undermined and the power to regulate trade handed over to a foreign body by a Democratic administration and a Republican controlled Congress.

In addition, the Clinton agenda included repealing legislation designed to protect our financial Institutions. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, also known as the “Financial Services Modernization Act” was passed in 1999. The FSMA repealed the part of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 that prohibited banks from using depositors’ money to make risky investments or gamble on Wall Street.

These anti-American bills put us in our current economic free fall, and Republicans supported them all. If Republicans had not supported them, they would have never become law in the first place. When I hear things repeated from the Clinton era, like Obama is moving to the right, I cringe because that actually means the Republicans are moving to the left to support Obama’s anti-American agenda.

The passage of the Food Modernization Act is proof that the Republicans are moving left again just like they did during the Clinton administration. What’s more upsetting is to hear that Speaker John Boehner and Obama met and found common goals. Pardon me, but the last time this happened we got NAFTA, GATT, and the WTO.

We also got changes to Fannie May and Freddie Mac that allowed them to make sub-prime housing loans without qualifying the borrower or determining the borrowers ability to repay the loan. Given all the similarities between events during the Clinton administration and today, I have to withhold contributions to Republicans until I see where the Republicans are heading this time.

    • Demoncrat Exorcist

Note: Like Mr. Ringer stated, we are heading downhill in our standard of living and our way of life. It’s obvious that the goal of politicians is to bring America down to third world status, and they are doing a good job of it.

Our industry, jobs, and properity were all legislated out from under us – just like our rights and freedoms are being legislated away today. The end result will be an America with a subdued peasant population controlled by the rich ruling elite, (Polticians) – the new world order.

      • Cawmun Cents

They are being bribed by someone…keeping us out of war….trying to “help” the populace. The resources that used to comfort us in our heyday, now have to be stretched to accomodate India,China, and many more burgeoning economies. This will definitely cause unrest as the available resources get stretched even more,as people try to improve their lot in life. This is the worldly governance of which is spoken. This is the plan…you must give up a slice of your pie to give it to those less fortunate than you. This is done continually by both our government and our philanthropical society. But some out in the world have decided that what we give from our generosity is not enough. Therefore unless we wish to engage in a world wide srtuggle for resources,we must”spread the wealth”.What it clearly amounts to is the same failed policy that Neville Chamberlain embarked upon prior to The Second World War.It is appeasement plain and simple.Brought to you by the samee type of cowardice which proceeded the events of WW2.Even an incompetent person could see this if they had the foersight to look. This is the precursor to total war.It was predicted Biblically nearly 2000 years ago.Something I might add that the Koran seems to lack the ability to do,for those of you out there that would compare the two.I have stated this several times on this very site under different aliases. You may think I am a kook, but if you would rather believe in a new age of enlightenment, then perhaps you should watch the snake-oil salesmen in Washinton spin this how they see it.But it all comes down to appeasement, and the exact result as before…total war.I predict this now…you heard it here.

Clinton and Bush administration is done. What we have now is Obama. We should be talking about Obama because he’s the one that’s killing us right now and has the power to make the changes. So could you just get off blaming the past and solve the present.

Bill Clinton was the rat bastard that caused the banks to collapse, that let the enemy blow us up time and time again and caused 9-11, and the rat bastard that sold our jobs to Mexico and our technology to China. We are still paying for his mis-deeds, and there are more and more coming as time passes that are being revealed. The dude was the worst thing to ever hit the white house, even worse than Barry.

  • http://www.submarinegear.com Harry

Ringer is dead on the mark. It’s the “how to boil a frog” syndrome, and a significant number of Americans have the attention span of a goldfish, so the politicians keep getting away with it.

Although ignored by many, we still have a Constitution, and as such, still can vote the scoundrels out. Getting someone to run is another matter, as character assassination is the order of the day for anyone bold enough to run on principles that served us for generations.

Polski, you are dead wrong. Although in a wartime state, we did run deficits, but they were steadily declining while the Republicans controlled the budget. Please bear in mind that the House of Representatives, not the President, determines the budget. Here is the record:
    2000 236 Billion surplus
    2001 ~100 Billion surplus
    2002 ~100 Billion deficit
    2003 ~390 Billion deficit
    2004 ~400 Billion deficit
    2005 ~300 Billion deficit
    2006 ~250 Billion deficit
2007 ~150 billion deficit (last under Rep control)
2008 ~450 billion deficit (first under Dem control)
2009 1.85 TRILLION deficit (CBO est. – White House est. 1.75 TRILLION)

A just-slightly thoughtful review of the numbers will show that it really does matter who you send to Congress. Not that simply having the label (R) is a guarantee, but the actual numbers tell a compelling story of the differences.

Right now, the Tea Party offers an alternative, but like Republicans, the label is not a guarantee. Look at the individual, and at what they actually DO – if they don’t live up to Constitutional principles, correct the problem at the next election.

  • http://washingtoncountyteaparty.com Jim Beckman

The key to changing America is for every individual to get involved at the local level (attend school board meetings, county quorum court meetings, etc.), state level, and national level. Join the Republican party and change it from within to see that only conservatives rather than same old lawyer/professional politician bunch that want to run for office get put on ballots for state and national elections. Get to know 10 neighbors in your neighborhood and build relationships with them before “educating” them. Get and read copies of the US Constitution and your state constitutions. Become informed, educated, and get active (off butts)! Vote every chance possible and hold elected persons responsible for their voting.

    • Cawmun Cents

Are you related to Fast Jack Beckman?I agree with your zeal, and the methods with which you describe how to take action. But how does one accomplish this in an economy where there is so much struggling?Being one of those strugglers I have grown to appreciate how the ruination of our way of life was planned and undertaken by the high society eduacated elite.Their end has always been to keep us trying to keep up with the joneses,to my chagrin to extreme success. Now it has been suggested by someone on this site that the answer is to build more toys for the children(children meaning the consumer). That we can technologically grow out of our issues. What a lost soul this person must be to believe that.Anyhow…I appreciate your suggestion and will attempt to implement it soon.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

I agree. I hear some say why vote, they are all the same, and those people are the ones to blame when someone like Obama comes in and jams his socialism and anti-American rhetoric on us. If you dont vote, dont complain. You had a chance, and chose not to participate, so dont complain.

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a TelePrompTer installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W.. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the nonexistent “Austrian language,” would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had stated that there were 57 states in the United States , would you have said that he is clueless.

If George W. Bush would have flown all the way to Denmark to make a five minute speech about how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in Texas , would you have thought he was a self important, conceited, egotistical jerk.

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to “Cinco de Cuatro” in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had misspelled the word “advice” would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoes as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he’s a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush’s administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W.. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved.

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can’t think of anything? Don’t worry. He’s done all this in 21 months — so you’ll have two years to come up with an answer.

Every statement in this email is factual and directly attributable to Barrack Hussein Obama. Every bumble is a matter of record and completely verifiable.

chuckb. You know that libs can stand the truth…That is why they will not succeed with their plan. Well done…

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

The liberals cannot see the truth like that, because it is right in front of their face. They see their fearless leaders, pull up their soap box, stand on it in the public square, and point fingers and blame others, so they blindly follow suit, not caring to look at the lies and inadequacies of those doing the finger pointing. My Father and Mother always taught me growing up, that if your not part of the solution, your part of the problem. Gee, how true that is even now, as these guys on the left, who have been in power now for over two years, have refused to do a damn thing to make things better, and have only dug the hole deeper and deeper, and still they are a part of the problem, still content to blame others, rather than manning up, rolling up their sleeves, and getting to work. But they cant, because they never had a plan when they were running for office, and they still havent any plans, other than to shoot from the hip, and try to ramrod things through, that they havent thought through. Im glad America woke up and saw through their lies, and sent over 60 of them home in November, and Im looking forward to 2012, where the rest of them can go home also, and we can start to get this country back on the right track. And the democrat tax machine is not the answer people, and Im not sure the Republicans are either, unless they can get back to their conservative roots through the Tea Party. the Libertarians are starting to look better, and I truly think that if they would embrace God they would start winning, but as long as they remain in the state of being where they dont recognize God, they are a long way off, and its a shame, because they have a lot of good strong principles to running government, but a godless society is a doomed society, and we are slowly heading that way already.

  • Pete

Technology will supply the wealth to pay off the governments debt, and bring a higher standard of living to all Americans. As we get more technologically advance we will have ROBOTS that will do all the work, Artificially intelligent software to help us make decisions. Scarcity will be a thing of the past. Capitalism and Socialism will be old outdated economic theories …

Capitalism is outdated. Socialism is outdated. Marxism is outdated. They don’t work. Technological development is throwing these theories on the scrap heap of history.

    • Cawmun Cents

I may not know very much but I know hogwash when it is thrown at me.You see Pete, contrary to popular science we are not headed for a new age of technology. That is Leftist Isolationist Idiology. It wont take here any more than the Mubarak speech will take in Egypt.

      • pete

It can’t be stopped – Technology will make life “lovelier and lovelier” ….

Hogwash you say ? Technology is decentralizing control. The brigand governments (like Egypt) are losing control because of it.

    • http://www.submarinegear.com Harry

I think the first time I heard this nonsense was in the ’50s in a science fiction novel. Don’t hold your breath for this Utopia to be magically ushered in. It ain’t gonna happen.

Socialism and Marxism are dead, as they are flawed and failed systems that ignore human nature.

Capitalism is not dead, but hopefully recovering from the distortions of a socialist agenda in the government of the country in which it flourished when left alone. Read “Atlas Shrugged” for a short version of what happened.

      • pete

I did read Atlas Shrugged when I was a younger. Objectivism is seriously flawed. It’s a cult – just like Hare Krishna or the moonies !

        • libertytrain

Is obamaism a cult as well? Not sure what qualifies in your code.

          • Pete

            libertytrain,

You got to get on the Technology Train ….

          • libertytrain

Sweetie, I’ve been on that train long before most. It still doesn’t answer the question.

Hey pete. With none of us working who is going to buy the robots?

      • pete

        Vicki,

Technology will be free – so will your robot. Intelligent machines will produce the wealth. The human race will be the beneficiaries.

Our descendants our inheriting a magnificent future !

        • Vicki

If the machines are truly intelligent as you claim how long before they dump the parasite humans?

          • pete

The “economics” of the future will be different. Plenty for all ! If a person wants to be lazy they can be lazy, If a person wants to be creative, they can be creative.

It’s happening right before our eyes, right now ! Machines have produced so much wealth ! Most of the population in the USA is working less hours than their ancestors hundreds of years ago.

Their will be no abortions, people will have more children. The world will have over 100 billion people or more ! Mankind will reach to the stars, colonize Space. It’s just a matter of time….

          • Vicki

How about the economics of NOW so we live to get to your “future”. Got a suggestion?

          • libertytrain

I remember back in the early 60′s when they told us in grade school, that when the computers arrived in the future, we would have all our work done for us and work only 12 hour weeks instead of 40. I don’t believe I have yet to enjoy a simple 40 hour work week but I sure have had plenty of 60, 70 and even a few too many 80 hour work weeks, thanks for the most part to the invention of the computer making my life easier ….????….

          • Pete

You got to apply Technology to your everyday life. Set up a small hi tech lab in your apartment. Start with a computer, branch out to electronics and miniaturized mechanics. Dremel tools are good.

Then after awhile your be making, replicating what you want/need for cheap $$$ or even free ….

LISP is a good computer language to design the “chatterbox” on your ROBOT… You could run your ROBOT from your computer, wirelessly around the house. Equip the ROBOTS body with sensors –

DO I hear specialized circuit building with FPGA’s ? etc …

Alot of the work has already been done – Open Source and GNU software/Hardware are accessible over the web …

You could develop your own technology FASTER than the DEFENSE DEPT and leave them behind in the dust …

          • Pete

Come on Vicki ! Go for it ! It’s the Universe or nothing !

It is crazy. Nothing is free.

          • pete

Come on Ronald ! Join the technologists. If you want to be charged the ROBOTS will charge you a penny. If you can’t afford that they will loan you a penny. If you can’t pay back they’ll take the loss ……

          • Vicki

Pete. Did you have a century for this to happen? People are dying in Egypt RIGHT NOW.

          • Pete

CENTURY is 21st aka NOW …

          • vicki

Can you give us a decade Pete? The first one is gone and we have hungry people all over the world.

          • vicki

            Pete? Pete? Are you there?

          • Vicki

Pete appears to be a typical liberal. Makes outlandish (and quaint )claims then runs away when challenged.

            http://www.ssa.gov/history/briefhistory3.html
            Technocracy
Technocracy held that all politics and all economic arrangements based on the “Price System” (i.e., based on traditional economic theory) were antiquated and that the only hope of building a successful modern world was to let engineers and other technology experts run the country on engineering principles. Technocracy’s rallying cry was “production for use,” which was meant as a contrast to production for profit in the capitalist system.

          • Pete

            Vicki,

I’m up here ! See my reply ! HA HA !

Great joke ! How liberal am I – what are your findings ?

          • Pete

            Hey Vicki,

The Technological World will feed parasites, loafers and moochers (as well as the producers, workaholics and loners).

No scarcity, everyone gets to eat.

            Isn’t that great ? Capitalism can’t to that ……

          • Vicki

And just how long do we have to wait for your promise? You said 21st century. That is now. Or are you just a typical politician whom we can tell is lying because they are saying something.

Time to deliver on your promise or be exposed as a snake oil salesman.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Sorry, your wrong. Capitalism and the free market will always be successful, that is, if the government keeps its hands off of it and lets it work. But government interference will screw it up, and they need to get out of the way.

      • Pete

        Beberoni,

No guarantees (by definition) that capitalism will suceed or you will be sucessful in a “free market” … No guarantee whatsoever.

The moral sanction of your existence is in jeapordy … Why ? For the very same reason you ask why … OOPS , I’ve been reading to much of Alyssa Rosenbaum’s book …

I never understood totally the ending of “Atlas Shrugged”. Why would John Galt be happy after winning Dagny Taggart ? She wasn’t a virgin and had been “deflowered” by Francisco D’Anconia and Hank Rearden … Do they have Penicillin in Galt’s Gulch ?

Wouldn’t you rather have a guarantee in a Technological Utopia ?

I voted but could not find the results overall. Please send them to me or advise where I may see them.
I, actually, voted twice because I did not think it went through the first time. Did not think it went through the second time so I quit.

Our politicians threw caution to the wind and promised the Moon to the electorate, then tried to payout with the taxes of all future generations. When the SHTF, they created a police state and called the electorate low grade terrorists.

Learn to produce your own weapons. Seize the technology now ! You won’t have to worry about “rights” …

Build your own weapons – store em away and don’t tell anybody.

Government control is getting weaker and weaker everyday …

Building a Stealth fighter and an Abrams tank is not going to be easy – any other ideas, pete? And 141 must be a pathetic piece of protoplasm – his remarks are remarkable.

The purple lipped jackass speech sure didn’t worry Mubarak. He made the Omoron idoit look like a real stooge again. This marxist muslim moron in Cheif shows again he hasn’t any real experience at any thing but reading a telapromoter and playing golf or vacationing. i would still take Donald Trump any day than the ones think their prez material. I don’t know about the restofyou but I could really give a rat rear if the world doesn’t like us, buying crude oil from dictators sure isn’t working, green envior crap is a waste of billions. Democraps are soros socialists pukes and beleive in totalitarian government control. I really would like the socialist democrats to prove me wrong.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

They cant prove you wrong. You have nailed them and depicted them as they truly are, and they cant refute it.

Some one needs to take this drug adict in rehab to get him cleaned up before he trips over his (offensive words removed) and falls on some one and hurts them.He has to be on drugs because any one talking this nonesense wouldn’t have enough sense to string two words togather.

  • http://donthaveone Beberoni

And I assure you, this one and his admin will be quick to take any credit for anything good that happens, and continually point the fingers and blame others for bad things, even those that they themselves have perpetuated on us all. I just read today about the protests in the streets of Iran, where the people are seemingly following the lead of those in Egypt, who want a taste of freedom, as they have all seen it in Iraq, and they want it too. Gee, you think that maybe Bush was right after all, that Iran would topple its own government in their quest for freedom? Huh, but you wont hear that from the liberal press, now will you? Somehow they will try to credit Obama and the democrats, who have had absolutely nothing to do with this, they are just riding the coat tails of what the previous admin started, kind of like Clinton resting on Reagans laurels, until 6 years in he ran it into the ground by doing nothing but taking credit for everything and defiling the office of president.

    • Pete

At least Obama is playing some lip service to the Technological Solution. He needs to abandon socialism/capitalism anyway ..
