Is Your Body In Balance? Check This List

It’s no secret that your body is made up of about 70 percent water. Every one of your 100 trillion cells is filled with water. And every other chemical in your body—from the stomach acid you need to digest food… to the blood that carries oxygen and nutrients to the cells of all your organs—either contain water or are suspended in water.

Therefore, for you to be healthy, that water needs to have a healthy pH balance—even out into the tissues of the organs where metabolism actually occurs. The letters “pH” mean “potential of hydrogen” and simply measure how acidic or alkaline your body is on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 14.

Your body will work hard to keep your organ tissues in pH balance. You will achieve optimum health much easier when your organ tissues stay in a slightly alkaline environment—about 7.0 to 7.5 as measured by saliva.

Blood pH is very different, however. It remains in the 7.34 to 7.38 pH range normally. And urine is normally acidic at a pH of 6.2 to 6.8 upon your first morning bathroom visit. What some people don’t realize is that saliva is a fairly good reflection of tissue pH which can vary, while blood pH will be one of the very last things to change in a sick person.

Is an acidic pH balance behind YOUR symptoms? Take this simple test:

  • Do you suffer from high blood pressure, a failing heart or other heart problems?
  • Do your joints feel stiff, inflamed and painful or do you suffer from bone loss?
  • Has a doctor told you that your blood sugar levels are too high or too low?
  • Are you finding it more difficult to get a good night’s sleep?
  • Do you suffer from constant fatigue or energy crashes after meals?
  • Do you frequently endure cramping, constipation, heartburn or other digestive problems?
  • Do you sometimes feel depressed, negative and cranky?
  • Have you noticed that your ability to solve problems or to remember details is lacking?
  • Do you sometimes suffer from shortness of breath or other lung problems?
  • Do you experience pain, numbness or tingling in your hands, legs or feet?
  • Is your skin or hair aging more rapidly than they should?
  • Do you notice that your eyesight or hearing is fading at an alarming rate?
  • Do you suffer from low sexual desire or performance problems?
  • Do you contract infections more often with each passing year?

If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, there’s a good chance that you may be suffering from acid overload. By switching to a whole foods diet and avoiding processed and packaged foods, you can help your organs, tissues and cells stay in alkaline balance.

The simple rule to remember is the 80/20 rule. It’s beneficial for your diet to consist of 80 percent whole foods such as fruits, non-starchy vegetables, soy products, limited amounts of lean meats, whole grains and beans… and only 20 percent of acid-forming foods such as commercially processed pasta, fast food, frozen foods, crackers, cookies and most sugary cereals.

In addition to the best nutrition you can consume, the next step is to supplement with alkalizing minerals.

    Because of statements from health professionals such as yourself that soy products would improve my health, I tried soy (Boca burgers and other products) and as a result developed many symptoms of hypothyroidism (even though my TSH, T3, and T4 levels were all normal) such as loss of eyebrows, weight-gain, decreased energy levels, sensitivity to cold temperature, and I also developed ED. Since I have banned soy products from my diet, my eyebrows are growing back (although they are not totally grown back yet), my tolerance for cold temperatures has returned to its former level, and my energy level has improved. Maybe the phytoestrogens in soy products are all right for females, but so far as I am concerned, soy “foods” and supplements are poison and no male human should ever ingest them for any reason. I am still struggling with the ED problem. I know that soy almost completely destroyed my health. By the way, I answerd five of your quiz questions with a yes.

    I still have mixed feelings about soy. I read so many pros and cons. But, one thing I would like to share. You may have an allergy or intolerance to soy. It is often an allergen for some people. I cannot eat mangoes because I get red from head to toes, skin itches, and I become VERY uncomfortable. It is not the product but my intolerance.

    I wish Dr. Michael Cutler would have made a notation that many people are allergic to soy (even women), and to check with their doctors before adding soy products to their diets. I believe Charles when he said, “soy almost completely destroyed my health”.

    Also, I wonder if Dr. Cutler even has time to look at these comments.

    Would like to know what are the alkaline minerals.
    I found out that my bone loss was due to a parathyroid disease, which seems to be prevalent than I thought. When using the alkaline test strips, I was extremely acidic, even though I eat a huge colorful salad daily, use stevia, use gluten free pasta when I do fix pasta, so am now waiting to see if having my bad parathyroid taken out will make a difference.

    Hi,

    I believe that soy, especially, genetically modified soy (which most on the market is) and chemically processed soy (soy burger patties, etc.) are bad for you and in fact increase acidity in the body. If you’re gonna eat soy it should be more natural forms such as tofu or raw soybeans and only make up the 20% of your diet. I agree with the rest of what you say however. Most fruits and vegetables that are unprocessed are alkalizing, especially when eaten raw. Most carbs (potatoes, rice, etc.) sugars, meats, lentils are acidfying. The more natural and unprocessed something is the better it is for you in general, the more processed and unnatural it is the more it should be avoided. You can Google “alkaline diet” and find lists of generally what foods are alkalizing and what foods are not. Also, when I am sick I like to squeeze the entire juice of a lime into a glass of water and drink it, sometimes I put a bit of natural unpasterized honey in with it, it is amazing how much that makes me feel better. Limes although acidic actually have an alkalizing affect on the body, it’s an easy remedy for quickly boosting your body to be more alkaline.

    I too was a soy food junkie as my diet consisted of soy milk, soyburgers, soy cheese and on and on for many years and it totally wacked my thyroid and I gained a goiter and took years to bring my thyroid back into balance, somewhat balance. Soy is a destructive poison to humans and animals, be it your dog, cat, bird, cow,horse makes no difference. The soy pushers should be in prison and classified as a criminal. I will not eat, buy anything that contains any trace of soy or their trick words. It’s obvious that some have been sucked into the belief that it is a health food….It’s junk medicine…..

    As a physician I completely understand that many people can have severe reactions and be allergic to soy and soy-based products. This reaction is similar to people with allergens to peanuts and milk.     In Scotland you cannot find bread in the supermarkets which is soy free. Even the flour has soy added. Therefore, all baked good has soy in them.

    If soy is so good for you,then why on the back of every supplement I have it says “Yeast, Corn, Wheat,Gluten, Dairy, Sugar and SOY” free. My mother drinks soy milk all the time,despite the warnings.

    Soy isn’t good for everyone. Some people are allergic to it. Another piece of the puzzle involves soures that are not reliable (contaminated soy products from China).
    Also, the government is playing games with terms (organic, safe (GRAS), healthy, etc.). People need to know if they are allergic to soy products, and that involves trying it.
    Last, the FDA is not above holding quasi-safe products to higher standards than presciption drugs, so consumers have to assume that they’re ‘on their own.’
    I hope your mother’s health benefits from consuming soy products, but not everyone will be able to say that.

    Lawrence, please don’t be so quick to judge all soy producers. To do that demands that all consumers light a fire under the FDA’s bloated rump. This disgraceful agency is cut from the same cloth as America’s retards in Congress.
    Just because an agency or group is ‘supposed’ to be helpful or above reproach doesn’t mean they’re doing their job. It’s one thing to point a finger. It’s something else to understand the depth and breadth of the problem. Sadly, most Americans make matters worse by questioning the wrong source. If the FDA was half as credible as we’re supposed to think, America would be a much safer and healthier country. In truth, the FDA is an incompetent, dangerous agency that is in bed with the AMA and Big Pharma – and we pay for it with our wealth and our lives.

    I am allergic to nothing EXCEPT soy, I cannot digest it and it gives me, almost instantly, gas, bloating, severe cramping and painful diarrhea.

    Dr. Blaylock writes that people should avoid soy products as if they were poison:

    “…The worst of the things they’re doing are the soy extracts. Soybeans, naturally, have one of the highest glutamate levels of any of the plant products. When you hydrolyze it, you release the glutamate, and the soy protein isolates. The glutamate levels are higher than a lot of what you’ll find in MSG products, yet the vegetarians are just eating it like it’s the healthiest thing in the world. There was a 25-year study done, which looked at people who consumed the most soy products, and they followed them for 25 years and did serial CT scans. They found out that the people who consumed the most soybean products had the greatest incidence of dementia and brain atrophy.

    These people are destroying their nervous system, and I talked to a lot of them who complained of severe migraine headaches. I said, ‘Get off the soy,’ and they do, and that migraine headache goes away. In addition, you have very high manganese levels, which is toxic to the very same part of the brain that produces Parkinson’s. You’ve got a mixture of toxins with soy products, and the people think they are eating a healthy, nutritious product. It’s destroying their nervous system, as well as other organs…”

    Soy protein provides a healthy way to get non-animal protein into your diet.
    Soy protein is generally very low in or free of fat, cholesterol, and lactose.
    And it also uses for building muscle!

    Soy has been used in Asia for more than 5, 000 years, because it’s very low in fat and high in protein.

    I make a pitcher of REAL lemonade with stevia, I dig the fiber sections out after juicing the lemon halves – it makes a wonder alkaline drink.

    I see people referring to the amount of soy that is consummed in asian countries all the time,but what they are not saying is that the soy consumed is fermented soy. In this form it is very healthy. Natto is one of the soy products consummed,and is high in vit. K2.

    Ther is a book called the “Whole Soy Story” that is a very good read. The name of the auther slips my mind right now, however I would recommend it to anyone.

    Remember Dr. Cultler is just making recommondations. Do whats right for you. I am sure he does not exspect you to eat something you may be sensitive to. He names more than one thing, so you can eat whatever works for you.

    Dr. Blaylock also has very good articles on the subject of soy,as does Dr.Mercola.
