Is ‘Bad Blood’ the Cause of Your Pain?

Is ‘Bad Blood’ the Cause of Your Pain?

You know blood circulates in your body and that without it you could not live. What you may not know, however, is that aside from being a vital nutritive substance blood can also be a cause of pain. In fact, many forms of pain, illness and disease can be linked to, or are caused by, what I refer to as “bad blood.”

Bad blood is when blood is in a state that can harm the body. These states are found in the form of “excesses” (e.g., too many toxins), “stagnations” (e.g., trigger points), and “deficiencies” (e.g., low levels of oxygen). The following list of common ailments related to the quality of blood paints a picture of how many different issues are related to the quality of our blood.

  • 25.1 million Americans live with heart disease
  • 32 percent of Americans suffer hypertension
  • 12 percent of females over age 20 are deficient in iron
  • 16 percent of adults have high-cholesterol
  • One in six Americans contract arthritis
  • 26 million Americans, between ages 20 and 64, suffer back pain

Pain is among the top reported reasons patients visit their primary care physicians. In fact, 150 million Americans suffer chronic pain annually. The chronic experience of pain is responsible for the billion-dollar nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) industry. (These are pain relievers like aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen.)

There are many causes of pain including stress, injury, tight or pulled muscles, a sedentary lifestyle, inflammation, acid/alkaline imbalance and trigger points. All of these affect the quality and motility (or spontaneous movement) of blood and/or can be caused by bad blood.

Blood is an essential body fluid that serves two purposes. It rejuvenates cells by bringing to them substances like oxygen and nutrients and it cleans cells by carrying away their toxic waste products. When body processes are hindered by incorrect diet, lack of water, stress, high acidity levels, trauma or disease, then blood’s role in maintaining homeostasis (body balance) is hindered… and pain, including back pain, is the result.

Food is such an important piece of the good blood equation. Blood plasma is a liquid component of blood that contains sugars, proteins, minerals and other substances. A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and high in whole grains will do much to provide depth of nutrients to build blood. But blood also needs soluble fiber to clean it and insoluble fiber to remove toxins from the body through the stools.  A nutrient deficient diet can cause bad blood which then can cause back pain.

Water is also an important component of good blood because plasma, which is 90 percent water by volume, actually comprises 55 percent of the blood fluid. Drinking plenty of fluids is a holistic way of relieving and preventing back pain.

But not all fluids are created equal. Beverages like coffee, tea, energy drinks and sodas are loaded with caffeine, sugars and chemicals that not only act as diuretics (transporting too much fluid from the blood) but are also high in toxins. These toxins, if they remain in the blood, cause bad blood — stagnations in blood motility (movement rate) via inflammation while also causing blood to become too acidic.

Indeed, maintaining the proper acid/alkaline equation (or pH balance) in the blood is an essential component to the blood/back pain connection. When blood acid levels are too high, muscle contractions can result. When muscles contract they cause limited range of motion and put pressure on nerves, prevent fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients to enter the tissue and prevent the efficient removal of carbon dioxide and other toxic substance from it. All of this causes pain.

If blood alkaline is raised and acid reduced, then muscle relaxation occurs. This allows for pain relief through the proper absorption of nutrients and transportation of waste products from the blood and tissues. Maintaining a blood pH of 7.4 is an essential component of pain-free living.

The negative effects of stress are also a leading cause of bad blood in pain. Stress constricts muscles in the body, lowers the amount of oxygen and increases acidity levels in the blood and tissues in the body. Deep breathing relaxation techniques not only reduce stress levels but also control pH. Stress causes shallow breathing and limited respiration, thus causing pain. Breathing exercises reverse this process.

Many chronic pain sufferers are fast to grab over-the-counter NSAIDs for temporary relief; and doctors advise their use. Yet these actually cause more long-term harm than short-term good. NSAIDs leave toxins in the blood, causing bad blood. They can also cause intestinal bleeding and are harmful to those suffering high blood pressure and kidney disease. Other painkillers, like acetaminophen, are harmful to the liver (which cleanses the blood) and the kidneys (which help move toxins out of the body) and do not reduce inflammation — three reasons to avoid taking it.

So what are the solutions to correcting bad blood in those suffering pain? The answer is found in a comprehensive overhaul of diet (food and water), breathing exercises for stress relief and oxygenation of blood and regular exercise to stimulate blood flow and removal of toxins. Along the way, safe temporary relief can be found by visiting massage therapists, acupuncturists and other bodywork practitioners, as well as engaging in yoga, tai chi and meditation. In the end, keeping your blood clean and moving in the tissues are positive steps toward back pain relief and prevention.

WOW, I have been struggling with chronic pain for about 7 years now. I have taken tons of different meds and started exploring more natural measures for dealing with pain when the meds just made things worse! Believe it or not I was praying to Jesus to show me the answer and I heard a voice in my head say say it’s your blood but I thought it was just my own random thoughts I did not know that blood problems could cause pain! Your article was very timely for me and has convinced me that maybe there is something to this! Thanks

Too much of anything is not good either.Drink about three glasses of water a day to flush out the toxins but too much would throw your electrolytes out of balance.Pursed lip deep breathing exercises will also do you wonders by getting the carbon dioxide out of your system and you will feel much better in no time at all. Many people when they get headaches they are usuallly dehydrated and the water they take with their aspirin may have done more good for them than the meds.

I have no doubt that people need to drink more water as a way to better health. However, many years ago I was told I needed a kidney transplant…I was only 26 years old. I was bloated, my teeth were beginning to chip, and I was exhausted. My father stood in line to give me one of his kidneys but I soon realized it was not my kidneys which were the problem. It was the WATER! I was living in Reading, Mass. at the time and they had just begun to flouridate the water in that town. It hit me like a rock and I could not imagine what was happening to me. One morning I was watching a TV talk show. The discussion was about the damages Flouride can do to the body. They mentioned the name of a doctor in Mass. and I made an appointment for the following week. He tested my urine and found a build-up of fluoride in my system. The cure? Drink distilled water! That was all I had to do to become healthy again. Can you imagine if I had indeed had the surgery they wanted to do? It might have killed me if I had not known about the fluoride. We have been sold this dream of decay prevention and it is of no value to the masses. However, it costs plenty to dispose of waste products, so that is how fluoride got into our water.
In the past week I have learned that we are now buying our fluoride to put in our water suppply from CHINA! They have found some substance mixed in with the flouride and do not know what that substance is! Could it be killing us or causing us more disease? Well, considering the recalls on products made in China, I would think about the water and its contents. If they put lead in the paint on children’s toys, why wouldn’t they put unhealthy products into our water system.
For those of you who are convienced that fluoride is the answer to prevent tooth decay, you can get it in prescription form from your doctor…so why medicate the entire population?
If you decide to use distilled water, be certain to call the manufacturer and ask if there is any fluoride in that distilled water. Some distilled water still contains fluoride.
We need chorline in the water to make it safe to drink; but fluoride is mass medication. What’s next? Perhaps antidepressants to the water?
One last thought. Recently I talked to a grandmother who was beside herself because her grandaughter had become very hostile and was getting more violent as the days passed. The only new substance added to the child’s daily routine was the new toothpaste with fluoride. Once the child was taken off all products containing fluoride, she returned to the normal loving child she had been. One day, the child got into her mother’s mouth wash and winin minutes, she was throwing things and being violent again. The grandmother sat her down and asked what the child had been into and when she found out it contained fluoride, she knew it was the root of all the child’s problems. What a wonderful turn of events for this family as the doctors wanted to put this child in a mental instution!
It is time to stop medicating the masses and make it a personal choice. So drink plenty of water…distilled water.
Thank you for letting me share this story.

From what I’m told, there are two types of fluoride.
One is quality, and the other is cheap crap that must be avoided. As long as cities and counties are willing to ape our ‘leaders’ in Washington, you can be certain that most communities will opt for the cheap, inferior grade.
You might contact Bob Livingston. He should be able to help.

oxygen has nothing to do with Ph. that would be carbon dioxide. when the carbon dioxide goes up, the Ph goes down and vise versa.
the only ‘cleaning’ it will do is rid the body of carbon dioxide. this is part of the process known as acid-base balance. look it up.. ask your doctor.
i usually like some of the things PLD publishes, but this is just first semester medical. i’m a respiratory therapist and even very basic for us.
i’m not saying deep breathing exercises aren’t good, of course they are, but the information here about WHY is inaccurate.

    • s c

Ted, you owe it to yourself to be the best respiratory therapist you can be. At the same time, you owe it to yourself to avoid the many unscientific theories that are part and parcel of American medical schools.
The AMA and the FDA have much to answer for, and Big Pharma seems to literally own the AMA and the FDA. I hope you live long enough to see Uncle Scam forced out of health matters. His main talent is in turning everything he touches into dung piles.
An old Chinese proverb says ‘honor dies where interest lies.’ It’s true, and Uncle Scam is doing nothing to prove that he gives a damn about the American people. Integrity is for sale in Washington, and it gets worse every day.

The flouride put into our water systems is waste from industry, usually the fertilizer industry. It is full of toxins and impurities, especially heavy metals like mercury, lead and cadmium. My understanding is there is only ONE study supporting its use, and many that don’t. It is said to cause hip fractures in the elderly, flouridosis (staining) of children’s teeth, and a bad kind of bone cancer in young boys. So to get rid of the waste, it’s dumped into our water, and ends up in our bodies and the ocean ultimately anyway. The FDA, that is supposed to protect public health, is a joke. The “bought” people there just do what their masters (industry) tells them to do. Another good example is that dentists still put deadly mercury (Hg) into our teeth when they implant amalgam fillings. Many people still don’t know that “silver” amalgam is more than 50% deadly mercury. Many countries are banning and/or phasing it out, but not here! The FDA is a farse in many ways, so we must protect ourselves! Find a mercury-free dentist that is trained in using the alternatives. Call (651-644-4572) or email: Dental Amalgam Mercury Solutions (DAMS) (dams@usfamily.net). Oh yes, we’re also told by our Health Departments that deadly mercury is no longer put into our vaccines. If you read the label listing the ingredients, you will find “thimersol”, another name for the Hg in the vaccine! If you want safer, sterile vaccines that don’t have Hg in them, you must order them from your doctor and pay more, but its worth it if you can do it. Why is the autism rate going up and up, now one in about 120-130? What changed prior to the increase? 1. Doctors started giving many more vaccines at a younger and younger age, all with Hg. And doctors started giving many more vaccines at once, rather than spacing them out like before, thus drastically increasing the amount of Hg the child gets, all at once. 2. Doctors started using multiple, (often unnecessary) sonograms/ultrasounds prior to birth. To my knowledge, there haven’t been any studies to check if sonogram (mis)use correlates to the increase in autism.

Wow, that was very interesting. I did not know all that about our blood. I guess so much of what we put into or fail to put into our bodies ie. certain foods, water, and air can affect so many parts within.

I think there can be other reasons for back pain. I know several people who have had back surgery and feel much better now. I am having difficulty seeing how “bad blood” can give you constant pain in one locale.

I found this most interesting. I contacted Dengue Fever during an 18 month stay in Tonga wherein I almost died. When I returned to the US I started feeling horrible. Debilitating fatigue, severe body pain, etc. My regular doctor prescribed antidepressents. That was disasterous. I began my own goggle research to after effects of Dengue and discovered that severe fatigue and severe acidosis and Ig level changes were involved long term. I was sure I had the secondary type of Dengue Fever during my 12 bout of bone crushing pain, high fevers, chills, headaches, etc. because my varicose veins in my feet all bleed out through my rectum and my feet looked like beautiful, pink normal veins and skin. I found a local doctor who is an allergist but has expanded into a Wellness Center and we together got me back on track–it took a whole year. What we discovered from sending my blood plasma to Oxford University in Spain to doctors doing research in amino acids for cancer patients was that my blood had “a difficult Dengue pattern.” No one seems to know just what that means, but I can tell you what I experience periodically–extreme fatigue, severe aching, severe acidosis. What do I do? I watch my diet and do drink alkaline water but this is still not enough. Exercising is a real pain in all ways. The energy is not there and it seems to make me ache worse, even with tiny increments of exercising. I am going to rethink the breathing part. These are real issues. Thank you for listening.

Please be careful about what people you don’t even know write on the internet. As the old saying goes don’t believe everything you read..just be careful!!
