Iran Vows To Destroy Aggressors

Following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bombastic remarks to the United Nations urging the world to take a hard-line stance against Iran’s alleged nuclear ambitions, Iranian officials issued statements of defiance.

On Friday, Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency quoted Gen. Farzad Esmaili, chief of the nation’s air defense, saying: “We vow our enemies will not survive,” if they attack Iran’s nuclear sites. He also said that the nuclear research sites were a source of Iranian pride, adding “we will defend our dignity with our lives and blood.”

Netanyahu’s much anticipated U.N. address on Thursday featured the Prime Minister’s familiar refrain that the world must put a red line before the Iranians to show how close to uranium enrichment they will be allowed to come before they are attacked.

Some defense analysts predict that Israel will not take any aggressive steps against the Iranians before mid-2013. Others contend that Netanyahu’s tough talk against the country is not backed up by the capability to defeat Iran in military conflict without massive military intervention from the United States.
