Indiana Sheriff’s Video Debunks Obama’s ‘Weapons Of War’ Myth

March 21, 2013 by

Ken Campbell, sheriff of Boone County, Ind., began hosting a series of informational videos last month repudiating gun grabbers’ claims about assault weapons.

His latest eight-minute piece debunks the gun grabbers’ fallacious claim that “weapons of war” don’t belong in civilian hands.

Opening with a Feb. 4 quote from President Barack Obama (that “weapons of war have no place on our streets”), the sheriff’s video dismantles the notion that only assault-style weapons qualify as “weapons of war.”

“Virtually all firearms were originally designed for military use,” notes the video:

Campbell compares the tactical, mean-looking AR-15 with the wood-bodied Ruger Mini-14, noting that, save the cosmetic differences, they’re essentially the same gun:

Let’s make a comparison between an AR-15 and a Mini-14. Let’s talk about what the similarities are. First and foremost, both are rifles. Secondly, they both take a detachable magazine. And, third, they fire the same caliber cartridge.

But under legislation pending now in Congress, one of these two rifles is apt to be a banned assault weapon.

(Hint: He’s talking about the AR-15.)

Campbell uses live-fire demonstrations of each weapon (using 20-round magazines) to illustrate that the AR-15’s pistol grip, threaded barrel and other features don’t do much to make its performance stand out above that of the Mini-14. In fact, the AR-15 lagged behind the Mini-14 in its rate of fire, squeezing off all 20 rounds in 14.79 seconds — versus 12.03 seconds for the Mini.

That kind of parity between tough-looking assault weapons and their outdoorsy-looking counterparts points up the absurdity underlying the President’s statement.

“I’ll leave it to you,” said the sheriff. “Does it pass the common sense test to ban one rifle over the other due to their cosmetic differences?”

Campbell goes on to test the efficacy of the shotgun — Vice President Joe Biden’s go-to weapon for when you absolutely, positively must blindly shoot a hole through your front door to stop a bad guy — at handling different self-defense scenarios.

The sheriff’s conclusion? Yeah, a shotgun’s great at helping you protect yourself — so long as your attacker doesn’t bring friends.

Campbell and other sheriffs opposed to knee-jerk Federal gun control measures are, more often than not, willing to put their money where their mouths are when it comes to citizens’ 2nd Amendment powers. The Boone County sheriff’s office doesn’t seem too interested in hoarding weapons and know-how from the public. Rather, Campbell maintains a calendar of firearm training courses for civilians on topics like edged weapons, defensive pistol use and how to use a handgun like a protective agent.

Ben Bullard

Reconciling the concept of individual sovereignty with conscientious participation in the modern American political process is a continuing preoccupation for staff writer Ben Bullard. A former community newspaper writer, Bullard has closely observed the manner in which well-meaning small-town politicians and policy makers often accept, unthinkingly, their increasingly marginal role in shaping the quality of their own lives, as well as those of the people whom they serve. He argues that American public policy is plagued by inscrutable and corrupt motives on a national scale, a fundamental problem which individuals, families and communities must strive to solve. This, he argues, can be achieved only as Americans rediscover the principal role each citizen plays in enriching the welfare of our Republic.

VICKi, Its ok for our Military and our police people to be armed with the best we can give them,,AS long as these people will keep in mind the safety of this Country and its people. Yet we know that this is always not possible, That is why the 2nd must be preserved for the people.to defend this Country and themselves.

At what point do we stop chasing our tails? At what point do we stop confronting these morons with facts and finally wake up and realize that these Democrats are not really Democrats and that they are really Communists who are hell bent on disarming America to the point that we will no longer have the ability to defend ourselves against anything to include this tyrannical government. Once they have disarmed us, they completely control us. THAT IS THEIR AGENDA. These politicians, both Republican and Democrat have the same basic agenda and that is control the populace. What good does it do us to change the temporary occupant of the White House if we all we get is more big government and less freedoms. Right now, everything that has been the foundation of this nation is under attack from these left wingnuts. Everything from our religion to how our kids are treated and educated/indoctrinated in their schools. From our basic communications on the internet to where we travel and how much money we have is being tracked daily. Is this the new “land of opportunity?” Is the hope and change all of these left wing voters really wanted? If so, we’re in deep s–t.

Oh, man, did you nail it, Sheepdog! Thanks.

There is no compromising with the Democrats(Communist). We have nothing in common with them; two totally different ideologies. The answer is to defeat them in the voting booth.

The video was a fine point for the anti second amendment groups to expand there scope of weapons to ban!! Other then that I’m not sure of the message. Most 12 gauge shot guns can hold 5 rounds and up to eight with exrended mag tubes which at preasent you are still able to purchase if you can find one available. loaded with double ought buck shot and a little practice you can put out 16 rounds in 21.3 seconds and the damage to the target is a hundred times worse then your AR’s. So is that your next video?? I know as I’m sure a lot of you know a ban of any type is not the answer to the problem in fact I doubt a ban would even slow down the senseless act’s we seem to hear about all to often. The reason I say this is because the last five major news stories on gun violence none of the shooters aquired there weapons legally. we have a war on drugs but with a few hundred dollars ans say 24 hours I can but drugs almost any where the same can be said for firearms. If ban’s work why sense Englands hand gun ban there hand gun crime is up 600 percent. Just some thing to think about..

    I like the Sheriff’s efforts & intentions.

Get rid of the US constitution and all of this nonsense will end. Your real true freedoms were lost the day they made the constitution the law of the land…

    • Vicki

Anarchy is not the answer. Nor is oligarchy. Which were you trying to suggest?

      This video explains why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4r0VUybeXY

      • JimH

I wanted to be an Anarchist, but there were to many rules.
        Anarchists unite?

      • Antonio

I was not referring to anarchy. I was trying to suggest that we get our real true freedoms back, the freedoms that we lost when they robbed us of the original founding documents…

Anarchy is not a bad thing. You cannot say anything about anarchy since you have never lived it. You are used to being a slave and therefore that first site of freedom you automatically hold on to your own enslavement…People are now accustomed to having a government tell them what to do and how to do it.

The AR-15 only looks meaner. So if you own a scary gun you are a scary person. The gun ban is not for peoples protection, It’s for their protection. They plan on taking away all your Constitutional rights.

  • Don 2

The leftist trolls must be off. Apparently, they have no interest in factual information that does not fit their Communist gun-grabbing agenda.

This is a letter i wrote and mailed to all the senators including Senator Reid’s office one day before the Feinstien bill was removed form the platform. Nothing and I repeat nothing was done in California after Patrick Purdy’s attack on a school in Fresno Calif. except the same thing Feinstien proposed federally. The mass shootings in Calif continued in spire of the legislation. Feel free to copy and paste this letter and send it to your senator and congressman/woman. Just remove my name and type in your own. Good hunting and God bless. Keep the pressure on them to back down. Oh yes and BTW I have been shot with .357 loaded with hollow point bullets and one was enough to stop the hell out of me. Ladies just scratch the word NO on your bullets inside the hollow point and tell someone who is attempting to rape you ‘no’ 3 times, twice in the heart, and if that doesn’t work put a ‘no’ directly in their brain.
    Dear Senator:
I believe you are on the wrong track with gun bans and gun legislation.
You are needlessly creating a conflict with your constituents and the
American people. You should realize that it is not in your best
interests to further inflame the populace. In the 1770′s I am sure the
British saw their actions as reasonable but still a revolution was
started. None of what has been proposed will have any affect on future
incidents. It is too easy to avoid background checks or steal a weapon,
or come by one through any number of ways that cannot be legislated
    against effectively.
I am sending you this because I came up with an idea that I believe
serves the best interests of everyone. My son Daniel thought of the part
of adding a drill to give teachers training for such an emergency.
At church, I was given the names and of every member of the Senate and
Congress in a prayer list and using it I got their Email Addresses.
I intend to e-mail my solution to incidents like the Sandy Hook School
shooting and to the issue of rape to all elected officials. My solution
is simple and far more effective than legislation that doesn’t address
the real problem. A person who intends to commit a crime isn’t going to
buy a gun legally and police response times and tactics are inadequate,
whereas my solution solves those problems.
It is this pepper spray (see link Below) and creating a “shooting
drill,”where the teachers are taught how to set up a position so they
can defend the students and take down an assailant with it, as part of
their training in disaster preparedness drills. They could also be
taught how to build a barricade from desks in the room which could stop
many small arms bullets. The Spray has a 35 foot range and enough
punch to temporarily disable a Grizzly Bear, that should do the job on a
shooter long enough for the police to get there. The barricades would be
protection against randomly fired shots and an assailant who sprays
randomly after being temporarily blinded by the spray.
It is a simple, common sense, real world solution that requires no
legislation; merely a modification of existing federal regulations to
allow schools to equip and train teachers. I suggest that they keep the
spray in a closed locked case; in a locked cabinet.
This is the spray and it is under $40.00.:

All law enforcement should be forced to follow sheriff campbell’s great leadership, the 2nd amendment was put in place to protect us from enemies foreign and domestic, that includes our own government, which scares the tyrants, no bans or background checks should ever be allowed to come out of a politicians mouth as it treason.
