Indiana Lawmakers Pick State Rifle

INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — The Indiana Legislature voted to name a gun kept at President William Henry Harrison’s home as the official state rifle.

The Grouseland rifle, named for Harrison’s Grouseland home in Vincennes, was approved by a 78-2 vote Tuesday in the House after earlier being approved 48-2 by the Senate, the Indianapolis Star reported Wednesday.

The measure, which was an amendment added to a bill dealing primarily with libraries, must now be approved by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

The Grouseland rifle is one of only six remaining long rifles made by Indiana native John Small in the 1800s.

OK. Now I know what a ‘Grouseland rifle’ looks like. Indiana, I’d never try to tell you what you need for your state rifle, but it looks as though you haven’t been keeping up on Washington’s concentrated insanity. You Do realize that history is one thing. Reality [here and now] is a different matter.
There’s a new version of the original AK-47 is about to be put on the world market. The old one was made in sufficient quantities, and shouldn’t be hard to locate. Even a decent shotgun would be acceptable.
If ‘made in America’ is the main reason for having a state rifle, many examples are still to be found. A hand-cranked ‘Gattling gun’ can be had for not much money.
It’s up to you. Do what you want. Choice is a wonderful thing. Waiting too long, however, to make a decision can be a downer, though. Just a thought.
