In A Letter To Pentagon, Civil Rights Groups Defend Press Freedom

May 25, 2010 by

In a letter to Pentagon, civil rights groups defend press freedom Several human and civil rights organizations sent a letter to top officials at the Pentagon demanding the reversal of the ban on several reporters covering military commission hearings of foreign terrorist suspects in Guantanamo Bay.

The letter was prompted by the ban imposed on four journalists from the United States and Canada for publishing the name of an interrogator in one of the cases.

The four, who include reporters from The Miami Herald, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail and Canwest News Service, allege the ban is "illegal and unconstitutional," because the name of the interrogator was already in the public domain, and publishing it did not constitute a violation of the Pentagon’s rules, according to media reports.

In their intervention, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Human Rights First, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the National Institute of Military Justice said that "this [decision] not only runs counter to the U.S. administration’s stated commitment to transparency in government, but will also bring the military commissions into further disrepute, internationally and within the U.S."

The Pentagon has said the newspapers in question can continue to cover the story, which involves detainee Omar Khadr, but they must send other journalist to do so. ADNFCR-1961-ID-19793301-ADNFCR

There really never has been a free-press in my mind, just great propaganda! Now, I hear that Hitler’s propaganda machine used American’s evil(Thank you Glenn Beck for giving us the proof)President Wilson’s propaganda machine! Now I know that the “Beast” Described in Revelation is Israel(America, from Joseph’s seed, not Judah, but including them, given “grace” (Messiah) not race(The Name Israel)! Hebrew is the only inspired language and even Paul in ACTS 26:14 was spoken to in Hebrew by Yahweh! Even the Catholic Church now accepts “their” translation error in 1522ad! Look up Petrus Galatinus on your computer and learn a little “history” before “it” became part of the American propaganda machine!

Barry and all his big talk while campaigning said his administration would be transparent…. HA! He won’t even hold press conferences because he doesn’t have the use of a teleprompter to save his butt on every question that might be difficult for him to answer! He is power hungry and narcissistic, thinking that everyone will eventually see how he is our ‘gift’ to the United States. I certainly hope that at the next election people will not vote for a vague campaign slogan, but they will actually take note of voting records and behavior. This man should never have been made president.

Seeing that the news companies are not banned from covering the trial, only the persons who broke the rules, I see nothing wrong here. If you come up with an excuse (persons name already in the public domain) why you should have been able to break the rules, then you apparently already knew it was against the rules and did it without first checking to see if your reason was adequate enough to do so. So if you choose to break the rules, be prepared to suffer the consequences without crying about it. You made the choice, now live with it and let the companies you represent send someone else who won’t break the rules, even if they have an excuse before hand. When in doubt, ask first, simple as that.

Keeping our interrogators names secret from the public in order to protect them from retaliation from the groups from which those they interrogate come from has nothing to do about transparency in government. DUH!!!

Just take a look at the groups which are “intervening” (American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Human Rights First, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the National Institute of Military Justice) that says it all. I, for one, cannot find much I can agree with from that circus. This is a military operation, and frankly I could care less about the “foreign terrorist suspects”. Water board ‘em and take notes. But, protect our men and women from unnecessary exposure.

Well when we have lawyers, that have defended muslim terrorists, is there any surprise on their blabing to the media. This isn’t a high school debate club, as we are being told by the government run proppganda office. As usual the feel good pukes of democrats keep us all endangered. With the NY Times disclosing military operations secrets and dems like Leaky Laheey, having trouble keeping his pie hole shut, do you feel safe with the muslim at the helm. Civil rights groups see not a problem in changing America to a socialist EU styled country. The press is a group of far left needle heads, they sit in offices and classrooms at getting eleit education and think they know how governments operations should be run, loosy and goosy.
