If You Are Using The Internet, You Are A Criminal

If You Are Using The Internet, You Are A Criminal

Remember the controversy over the past couple of months surrounding the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) that was seemingly quelled by the protest of thousands of Internet users and the subsequent blackout of several major websites? Though the tweets, posts and online news stories regarding Internet freedom have waned greatly, the threat to freedom and any level of online privacy persists.

Perhaps it is a product of our always-on news cycle or our constant bombardment with entertainment distractions, but Americans as a whole have a very short attention span when it comes to fighting against threats to our liberty. When lawmakers such as Representative Lamar Smith (R-Texas) — author of SOPA — draft legislation that deliberately takes away Americans’ freedom and privacy, they do so with a plan.

Smith and his legislative cohorts knew very well that SOPA and PIPA, two bills that screamed censorship and the antithesis of American values, would make American Internet users and free-speech advocates uneasy; that’s why the Texas legislator drafted a backup bill. The bill’s alphabet-soup acronym is PCFIPA (H.R. 1981), which stands for something that all Americans would likely support “Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers.” By amending existing laws that give U.S. Marshals the power to issue subpoenas and pursue fugitives, the bill will give Federal authorities access to your every move when using the Internet or Internet-based device. That’s every email, click, text message, password, online financial transaction, etc.

Internet service providers (ISPs) already keep track of some information, but Smith’s bill requires the ISP to retain every move of every individual using the Internet for 18 months, according to IT World. This means that the Feds would have an ever-evolving pool of data pertaining to every Internet-using American to bait with the thousands of Federal laws and regulations on the books and fish until they find some semblance of criminal activity.

Smith — like any good bureaucrat — is using child pornography as a straw man to impose tyranny. By assuming that every American is a child pornographer, the bill compiles a list of every online action and makes every person guilty until proven innocent.

IT World says of the bill: “Since it is empowering U.S. Marshals to investigate people who have not yet been convicted, under PCFIPA, the only thing required to get a valid subpoena to examine all the online activity of 99.762 percent of the U.S. population, is an investigating officer willing to say the subpoena has something to do with investigation of online child porn.”

“The bill is mislabeled,” Representative John Conyers (D-MI) told CNET. “This is not protecting children from Internet pornography. It’s creating a database for everybody in this country for a lot of other purposes.”

SOPA, PIPA and PCFIPA are all pretty nasty attempts by the U.S. government to unleash its crushing regulatory power on the Internet, but there is another threat to internet freedom and privacy. Critics of the international Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) say the agreement has all of the markers of an evil plot in a movie based on a group of world leaders and corporate interests bent on eliminating communication among their proles to control all production, communication and information. ACTA is supposed to be an international agreement that protects copyright holders against piracy by establishing an international legal framework for targeting counterfeit goods, generic medicines and copyright infringement on the Internet. The law would use an international organization — such as the World Trade Organization, World Intellectual Property Organization or the United Nations — to carry out its task.

ACTA has not been widely discussed in U.S. media, likely because negotiations regarding the measure were held in secret. It was signed quietly by the United States in October 2011 without the approval of Congress, the Supreme Court or the American public. Tokyo, Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea also signed the treaty, while the European Union, Mexico and Switzerland plan to do so in the near future, according to International Business Times. When the measure is finalized, ACTA can be used to crack down on Internet activity worldwide by a coordinated authority that rests outside of any country.

Governments aren’t the only ones who want access to everything you do online. With the advent of a new Google privacy policy on March 1, information from almost all of your Google services — including Gmail, Picasa, YouTube and search — will be compiled and analyzed so that the company can learn more about you. Google collects and can integrate just about anything you’ve ever told the company: calendar appointments, location data, search preferences, contacts, personal habits based on Gmail chatter, device information and search queries among other things. There is no way to opt out of the company’s tracking aside from not using any of its products.

If you’re concerned about Internet freedom and privacy, don’t worry, President Barack Obama has your back — much like he did when it came to the indefinite detention provision in the National Defense Authorization Act. Last week, the Administration issued a “Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights” and said that individuals should be allowed to opt out of corporate Internet tracking. No word yet on whether the White House will call for the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, CIA, U.S. Marshals or international spy agencies to allow Internet users to opt out of tracking by Big Brother anytime soon. Our guess is likely not.

Right on, Sam! We’re now a nation of CRIMINALS. Oh, well. The other side of that coin proves that only willing, anal retentive Big Muthas would find reasons to ‘watch’ a nation of convenient, falsely-accused criminals.
Obviously, when someone dares to monitor people 24/7, they have to assume that their equipment is infallible (and they can manufacture “reality”). So, our wannabe masters aren’t above using capricious methods of selective enforcement of ‘law’ statutes. I’ve been around that mindset before, Sam.
Maybe ‘V for Vendetta’ is prophetic. Red Dawn? Seven Days in May? Exodus (the Bible – not the movie). It will certainly give people something to ponder when living is so dangerous that many of them will walk away from their ‘duties’ to find gainful employment at another, safer job. That includes media whores, too. Tingling Leg Syndrome will take on an entirely new dimension, eh?

    • restorefreedom

Not to worry about us all being criminals there will be plenty of interment camps ready for us to take up residence. Does Obummer think he is or will be or is King or what?

  • FreedomFighter

What surprises me the most is the reaction or lack there of from the left…censors, investigating everything they do online, should send the left into a tissy fit.

It is not, because its there man in the white house, there party, there reps passing these draconian measures. Not that the right is not guilty, both are being manipulated by the real powers that be, it just seems the left is so blind to it.

    The suicidal left strikes again.

Even when we warn them (the left) that the next republican president can use the laws like NDAA 2012 against them they still are silent. Really sad.

A free-flowing, uncensored, hands-off internet, is one of the biggest threats to big-government, why with all that freedom of speech and all. From a power-hungry, government’s position; control of the internet, is a logical and necessary requirement. As for the lame reason; “protecting children from porn”, nonsense! The industry provides ample soft-ware to nip the pernicious, porn-bug, among other influences, in the bud! Needless to say, opposition to this bill will be considerable. On the other hand, this threat/proposal, could also be for the purpose of distraction, while something else is maneuvered in place. Time will tell…

    • Dave

@FreedomFighter obviously you don’t really follow what happens on the internet or “lefty” politics, because if you did you’d understand that SOPA and it’s corresponding bill PIPA (did you know there was a corresponding bill? Probably not) were bipartisan bills. Bi partisan means supported by both parties. You also might want to note that they were defeated because of intense pressure by sites like the Communist DailyKos and the Socialist Reddit well over a month ago.

Just suggesting you might wanna take your head out of your ass and see that maybe you and some of those pinko commies are on the same side.

Well H*ll according to the Left, were Criminals for this, dissidents for that, anti-semetic, we can’t say this, or we can’t do that, the Political Correctness rules the world because “WE’RE ALL TERRORISTS NOW!”__ geez!

      i totally agree!

  • cawun cents

Funny how as we are made aware of the fact that government is monitoring our every post, then certain posts need a disclaimer for the puposes of causing us to believe that we are not being censored. This is of course, only offered as IMHO.-CC.

  • 45caliber

Sadly, this is nothing new. It is only an extension of the Privacy Improvement Act, sponsored by Clinton and passed by the Democrats.

That act forced all communication manufactorers to install chips that allows the government to record and copy every telephone call, email, fax, etc. that you send. They can then search it for specific flags such as “bomb” by computer. If a flag is located, they can then have a real person listen to or read the message. Of course the words to search for can be changed at will.

All this act does is give them the right to place charges against you for reasons other than national security.

    • old hillbilly

look at it this way, if we debooted all muslims to Iran (including obummer), there wouldn’t be any terrorists, we could end all the sloothlessness, & live happily ever after

    • pweiters9

2/29/12, I just don’t think the gov’t is that good. It would choke on the endless traffic. What it might conceivably do is target certain districts & sites at random; some more than others.

WELCOME to 1984, Room 101 anyone?
Thats right we are there and its all happened during all our life times. HELL – We have all taken the pride in washing our hand of the very guilt we all hold so close to our hearts.

Yet its not our fault, afterall we all were just looking out for whats right and whats wrong but oddly based on 100% total Political rhetoric, who wants to be a BIG R or perhaps a BID D?

Hey lets make it Illegal to eat Rabbits, or Tree Bark, afterall you don’t eat them so no one else should be able to, right?
So lets also make it Illegal to wear green pants, or perhaps even an Orange shirt.
All that seems to be total absurd, right?

    Yet why is it absurd when all of us find something we say the following about;
“There should be a law about this or that.”
How odd we all pass judgment on others, or what they like to do, etc. Yet its really no differant when they want to take away something you like.

Look, when you all wake up and really get with the program its going to be way to late, but hey you all got to beat each other up and have a few moments of – Got Ya’s.
    What could be better?

We all keep replacing the motor, when the problem was a simple flat tire.
When we all wake up to that fact – yet again it will be way to late. – So lets just get a new motor, say how about Mit, or we could just keep working with Barry and see if the old Lame Duck really works.
The answer is quite clear, the FLAT TIRE will still be there.

The system was broken in 1860, when all of you wake up and grasp that its all the “CENTERAL BANK’S” that created the problems, or the FLAT TIRE, by way of distorting the TRUTHS, but guess what — you all did the dirty work for them by beating each other up.
Hey we all we be left with NO GOD Nothing at all, but LAWS known as ACTS, or Public Policy.

Again say hello to 1984, We all voted for it, and now we all have the same chains of bondage, but hey Perhaps there should be a law about that, or perhaps not.

Your choice, we can still fix the flat tire, or we can just keep replacing the motor.

    Peace and Love

They want to take away everones rights ( and freedom )… They are making excuses to call you a felon that way they take your guns. Just wait… Soon it will be a felony to watch Fox news…

    • 45caliber

      Raggs:

They want to call you a felon so when they arrest you the other “felons” won’t get excited and do something that they won’t like. They already have the right to arrest you whenever they wish. But if it shows up on the news that they tried to arrest you for murder or treason they are less likely to excite others into revolt.

The government realizes millions of citizens have awoken from a deep sleep. The question is have we been sleeping too long for it to matter? With the information highway, all the books and DVD’s available as well as the ability to do our own research we will know the answer come November.

2/29/12, This is what can happen to the ‘land of the free, home of the brave’ when one becomes complacent & thinks our system will maintain itself. While blacks, women, youths, & just plain dummies lined up in droves to pay homage to the ‘Dear Leader,’ they didn’t take into account a live Communist hiding under dark skin. when he pledged to “fundamentally change” this nation & that your energy costs would “necessarily skyrocket,” he meant that s**t. You’re seeing it now.

The street people are out in force–his people–to wreak mayhem where you live. This election season is going to get fierce & bloody. And it’s only March.

  • Deborah

Freedom to think, speak, and have an opinion-gone. How sad it is that we as a nation have let ourselves get turned into a nation of sheeples by not standing up for our freedoms and rights. If nothing is done about our freedoms being stripped from us at the rate it’s going now, we’ll be nothing but a bunch of self-pitying, whining idiots who are stripped of the means and courage to defend ourselves, have the women in the country banned from being able to choose not to be second class baby breeders by the American Religious Taliban, and having the Constitution become nothing more in the eyes of the government than a historical piece of paper. Looking at who the GOP (Grovelling Old Patsies) have decided to endorse to run for president, It’s no wonder this year’s elections will most likely result in a landslide for Obama. Is he perfect? No. But at least he has tried to do a few things to help America, which is more than anyone in office the past few years has done.If everyone keeps themselves active and vigilant as to what’s going on, then maybe the USA won’t become as bad as the middle east in it’s bigoted, hateful, and hurtful policies.
To stay free, you HAVE to keep fighting for it’s maintenance. And that includes everyone, regardless of gender or race.

I only intend to use the internet until the next election to keep talking up RON PAUL and explaining , as much as possible , the destruction Obamass is doing to the United States . After that I am going to find a better use for my retirement .

    • Bill L

Hey Buck, just get a really high powered rifle and then while you’re relaxing you could maybe take out a drone flying over your head spying on you in every way conceivable. Anyway, I’m with you on Ron Paul. The man does seem real.

      • http://www.facebook.com/robbie.borot Robbie Borot

hey bill, it may be too early to joke about drone assaults unless these drones are used to electronically ticket people for moving violations,on the other hand upon the event of a national disaster the drones may be used to protect most of us by monitoring large groups of desperate people when civil unrest takes place, that is when the human animal instinct takes over the human mind set for survival.we may have less than 10 years to notice this.

  • DH

Czars, the brownshirts able to take you off the street without appeal or charges made against you (you just disappear) and now monitoring everything you do or say on the internet, not menton a whole bunch of other stuff. We are in the hands of marxist regime, facilitated by both sides of the aisle.

The constitution of the United States is no more, gone, destroyed by Washington DC and this president.

And the American people are asleep.

SOMETIMES I WEAR A T SHIRT THAT SAYS FREEDOM IS NOT FREE,AND LIVE FREE OR DIE, ….. BUT I DON’T ADVOCATE OR SUPPORT THE MESSAGE BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE WILL TAKE THE MESSAGE OUT OF CONTEXT. THE MESSAGE IS TO WAKE UP UNINFORMED PEOPLE THAT ARE STILL ASLEEP.I THINK NEWSMAX.COM SHOULD CHANGE THE WORDS IN ORDER TO MAKE IT LESS CONFUSING TO UNDERSTAND IT CORRECTLY. ONE CAN’T HELP TO THINK THAT THE DEVIL ADVOCATES HAS BEEN ALTERING THE WAY WE GRASP THE MEANING OF FREEDOM FOR CENTURIES. IN THE EARLY 19TH CENTURY THE MASONS KNEW THAT IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO FORCE THE UNITED STATES AND THE MAJORITY OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION TO WORK AS SLAVES EVEN THOU CURRENCY HAS BEEN AROUND CENTURIES EARLIER, THE OBJECTIVE WAS TO CREATE THE FEDERAL RESERVE PRIVATE MONETARY SYSTEM THAT IS NEVER AUDITED TO GIVE PEOPLE THE MINDSET TO FEEL FREE OF OPPRESSION IN ORDER TO MAKE IT EASIER TO STABILIZE THE WORK FORCE INDUSTRY TO BUILD THE COMPLETE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE UNITED STATES AND AROUND THE WORLD. MONEY WAS USED AS A TOOL TO MOTIVATE THE WORK FORCE AND SINCE THE INFRASTRUCTURE IS CLOSE TO BEING COMPLETE AS WELL AS NEW YORK’S NEW WORLD TRADE CENTER TOWER OF BABYLON THEN ALL THE MONEY TYPES WILL BE OBSOLETE AND SLAVERY WILL THEN BE ENFORCED. THERE ARE SEVERAL CLUES ON THE AMERICAN ONE DOLLAR BILL THAT SUPPORTS THE MASONS AGENDA,LOOK FOR THE TINY OWL SYMBOL LOCATED AT THE TOP RIGHT FRAME OF THE DIGIT ONE ON THE FACE OF THE ONE DOLLAR BILL USING A GOOD MAGNIFIED LENS, THE OWL SYMBOL CAME FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION IN WHICH IS WHY OBAMA AND THE BUSH FAMILY WANTS THE UNITED STATES TO BE PART OF EUROPE. HOW MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE KNOW THAT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY HAS SHACKLES ON HER FEET AND IF THAT DOESN’T CONVINCE YOU LOOK UP THE PRESIDENTIAL EXECUTIVE ORDERS THAT SEVERAL PRESIDENTS HAVE SIGNED IN TO LAW UPON THE EVENT WHEN A NATIONAL DISASTER TAKES PLACE IN OUR COUNTRY. I WELCOME ANYONE OUT THERE TO PROVE MY STATEMENTS ARE INVALID AND INCORRECT BECAUSE I WANT TO BE PROVEN THAT I’M INCORRECT.

    • Raggs

Did you expect something different from a white house that is above the law?
So that being the case the only law left in this country has to start with us excluding the “rule” of law that is based on the agenda of controlling the population by the means of fear and intimidation tatics.
Isn’t it ironic that the ni$$er eric holder can break any law without being prosecuted?… but if you spit on the sidewalk you are going to jail… I have no longer any respect for the American system of justice ( injustice ) when the thieves have more rights than the victims… And that is why I shot first and I do not bother asking questions later.

I use POPVOX.COM to contact my reps about legislation. I just sent them one about this thing too. I actually got a call from one of my reps a few days ago about another bill that was going through. Lucky for them I was in public and didn’t want to tell them what I really think. I wonder if they will call me back and give me a second chance to tell them how I really feel? o_O

2012 is surely starting to be like 1984. If we do not stand up and oppose all this the book will be true. It makes me shudder to think that would come come true. We need to shout out and do everything we can do to stop all this Big Brotherism!!!

  • John Tedford

I use the internet alot, and do a lot of research on the wars our nation has been engaged in. that goes from world war 1 to the present ones. There is no excuse for any one of them. The government uses propaganda to stampede people into war. If that don’t work they then bring out the military draft, and you are going fella, whether you support it or not. War itself is the biggest promoter of socialism and big brother government. In time of war, free speach and thought are cortailed. War is a racket only to benifit the international bankers who promote it. Does that make me a criminal for using the internet and comming to my own conclusions on our wars past and present? Sigfried Sasson a British Army Officer of ww1 said “In war time patriotism is the supression of the truth.” Sasson knew what he was talking about. Think about that one! The Rockefellers and the Rothschilds love war and it benifits them and the governments who ingage in it, but not the ones who lose. They have to pay for it.

Every byte of information you put on your computer, the govt. knows about it. Every cell phone call you make and twitter messages , the govt. knows about it. Every drivers license has a computer chip and every credit card has a computer chip in it. That way they know where you are at all times and what purchases you make. Every time you write a personal check.the govt. knows about it. The govt has all your health and finincal records. The govt has surveillance camers everywhere you go.Every home is bugged with a reverse michrophone. There is nothing you do that the govt. doesnt know about you. The said part about it is that we pay them to do it. The worst part about is that we let them get away with it.

  • ROGER,Canadian Libertarian

Libertarians, such as myself, have been saying for years, “the Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance” and even here in “Personal Liberty”, some “rednecks”, have said, because I am Canadian I have no right to criticize with their immature expletives ( which I ignore of course because FREEDOM is not owned by Americans, especially NOW)…
……well we are now paying the price for asking that freedom be taken from some to benefit the few, every time Americans invade another country or find a reason to hate another group. The Person ( or Government) who can steal FOR you CAN and will steal FROM you.

STOP blaming your government..YOU ALLOWED it, just as we in Canada and the rest of the Western world did!!!

How does it feel now and this is ONLY the beginning?

  • teaparty13

I grew up without a cell phone or a pc, can do so again. Having neither will add more $ to my shrinking pension.

What we need to do then is flood their servers with worthless data. 10 million 14 megapixel photos of your cat from each and every one of us would probably do the trick.

Interesting post, thanks, and scary. I think we would be better off without the internet. We think it will cure our social disfunction, that it is somehow making us into communities again. But really we are just moving further and further away from where we should be.

Big Brother is here and now, and has been ever since Bush The Impaler was President.
We can resist, or we can complain.
How about a mass non-payment of taxes?
    Money always gets their attention.

you may not believe it for now,the more research you do you may think differently, have you been updated on the attorney general trial lately concerning eric holder for the term fast and furious?

It appears that most on this post realize that our freedom has already been taken little by little.

It is a logical progression that a government in fear of it’s citizens will devise ways and means to control speech/communication to limit the fallout over their gradual retirement of our freedoms. Just look around the world…nations torn apart and new leaders put in place by using text message and email! What bigger threat do you need as a power broker? They foresee the day that it happens in more and more nations.

Those that claim the high ground of professing transparency (Obama prior to election) do the most in secret. Hello George Orwell. Welcome to 1984 ministry of truth and double think. Only those having taken a course in creative writing need apply.

Oh, and by the way, creative writing is already a requirement for police officer cadet training. Only those proficient graduate. The difference between right and wrong is now lawful and unlawful. Definitions will be given as the changing terms dictate.
