Hurray For Mitt Romney’s Bold Choice

My friend prides himself on asking provocative questions. So when we learned last Saturday that Mitt Romney had selected Paul Ryan to be his running mate, I wasn’t surprised when he asked, “Do you think two boring white guys can beat Obama and Biden?”

My short answer was, “I sure hope so.”

To be honest, I was a little surprised that the Romney team made such a bold — even courageous — choice. I can’t imagine any selection Romney could have made that would make the battle lines between the two parties any clearer. Will this country vote to grow government and increase taxes or to bring runaway Federal spending under control, reduce taxes and begin to balance the budget?

I wish I were more confident of the answer. But with almost half of the population dependent on a government check (and not paying anything in Federal taxes), you can be pretty sure of which side they’re going to vote for.

There are now 45 million Americans receiving food stamps every month. And the Administration of President Barack Obama is actually spending millions of dollars running ads encouraging more people to sign up.

Even more people are now getting Medicare. How many of them will buy into the Democrats’ lie that Romney and Ryan will end Medicare as we know it? Sad to say, probably a lot of them will.

Remember that incredible TV commercial the Democrats ran two years ago, where a Ryan look-alike pushed an elderly lady in a wheelchair off a cliff? That will be mild compared to what we’ll see this year. Heck, the Obama fanatics have already accused Mitt Romney of being a felon and a tax cheat and of killing a woman by denying her healthcare. And they’re just getting started.

The sleaze is going to come thick and fast, my friends. The Democrats know their only hope of winning is to make Romney and Ryan look like dangerous, irresponsible extremists. Sadly, they can count on the support of much of the mainstream media to do exactly that. In fact, The New York Times ran its first editorial on the Romney/Ryan “extremism” the day after we learned that Ryan was Romney’s choice to be his Vice Presidential running mate. It will only get worse.

You can expect to see and hear a lot more — and a lot that’s nastier — over the next 12 weeks. After all, the Democrats can’t run on the accomplishments of the Obama Administration over the past four years, can they?

By the way, I don’t agree with the “boring” label my friend used. I was impressed with what I saw and heard on Saturday morning, when Romney and Ryan appeared together aboard the USS Wisconsin. (Nice choice of venues, incidentally.) And I was impressed again on Sunday night, when the two men made their first media appearance on “60 Minutes.”

I liked what both men had to say. I was especially impressed to hear Ryan say during his first remarks as Romney’s Vice Presidential choice:

America is more than just a place … it’s an idea. It’s the only country founded on an idea. Our rights come from nature and God, not government. We promise equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.

This idea is founded on the principles of liberty, freedom, free enterprise, self-determination and government by consent of the governed.

This idea is under assault. So, we have a critical decision to make as a nation.

We are on an unsustainable path that is robbing America of our freedom and security. It doesn’t have to be this way.

The commitment Mitt Romney and I make to you is this:

We won’t duck the tough issues … we will lead!

We won’t blame others … we will take responsibility!

We won’t replace our founding principles … we will reapply them!

That message and promise will resonate with a lot of voters. In fact, it garnered more applause than anything else either gentleman said that morning.

Yes, conservatives love the Ryan selection. In fact, it’s done a lot to increase their trust and maybe even their affection for the man at the top of the ticket. I can’t imagine anyone Romney could have chosen who would do more to solidify his support among the party’s base than the man whom Human Events named “Conservative of the Year” for 2011. He’s young, energetic, full of enthusiasm and very, very bright.

I can’t wait to see Ryan versus Joe Biden in the Vice Presidential debate. Ryan will make Biden look like the pompous blowhard he really is. It’s too bad we won’t get to see Ryan debate Obama. I don’t think there’s any question who would be the smartest guy in the room. And Ryan is just as eloquent without a teleprompter.

Michael Reagan, Ronald Reagan’s son, described the selection as Romney’s “first great move.” He said his dad would have approved of the choice, adding, “It’s going to really infuse some excitement and a lot of excitement probably within the conservative ranks.” Indeed, it already has.

Obama strategists claim they are also delighted with the choice, arguing that Ryan will be easy for them to attack. I think this is more bravado than brains. Sure, some of their faithful followers will applaud every new “Mediscare” taunt they launch. But hopefully enough voters will see through Obama’s class-warfare rhetoric and budget-busting programs to say: “Enough!”

The coming election will present the electorate with the clearest choice we’ve seen in generations. Will we allow our leaders to continue to pile trillions of dollars in debt on our children and grandchildren?

We’ll know the answers in three months. In the meantime, I’m delighted Romney selected a running mate who is such a passionate and effective advocate for our side. Aren’t you?

      daveh, in quickly reading my remark the other day, you kind of missed my point, it wasn’t me saying ron paul was getting funny in the head, i was saying what the dems would say about him if he had been the nominee. they would make all kinds of cutting comments and that inevitably would be one of them, along with the rolled eyes. i myself haven’t followed ron paul, but he does seem to have a strong and commited following. i think he’s too old though for the stamina he would need as president, but of course our present president at age 51 might have stamina but that’s his only qualification. now there i go again. what did i say wrong now?

Chip Woods, writing on a constitutionalist-leaning website, just wrote a glowing endorsement of a dyed-in-the-wool NWeO-con Veep candidate, who is virtually identical to Romney, Obama, Biden, Bush, Cheney, Clinton, Gore, Bush, Quayle and on and on.

      The Mainstream Corporatist Whore Media and the NWeO-con talking heads paint Ryan as antithetical to Democrats, but the only difference is down which path the NWeO-cons, including Ryan, will take the U.S. to reach the Socialist Wasteland of Big Government.

      The Democrats have their methodology and the Republicans have their methodology, but the end result is the same.

    Paul Ryan Is No Conservative

    No sooner had Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate become known than the world of punditry was abuzz with talk of “Ryanmania.” Since mania is by definition an excessive or unreasonable enthusiasm, the label may be regarded as an understatement. For while the seven-term Republican congressman from Wisconsin and chairman of the House Budget Committee is not yet a household name across America, he does generate excitement within the “conservative movement,” an excitement and enthusiasm that suggests the talking heads at Fox News and the warriors at The Weekly Standard have no more sense of conservative, constitutional government than the cheering chanting crowd of Republican partisans who greeted the vice presidential hopeful in Norfolk, Virginia, Saturday morning.
    Like him or not, the one thing politically aware Americans are supposed to know about Paul Ryan is that he is a fiscal conservative, a bold budget hawk. He is, after all, the prime author of the House budget plan (titled “the Path to Prosperity”) to repeal the Obama health insurance program (“ObamaCare”), turn the Medicaid program for low-income Americans over to the states and create a private insurance option for Medicare beneficiaries starting in 2023. The plan would also turn food stamps and other federal programs for the poor into block grants to the states, with limits on the growth of those programs. If Republican voters have any doubts about Ryan’s commitment to budget austerity, they need only hear the Democrats’ outcry that Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity” will be a road to the poorhouse for elderly and low-income Americans.
    But on the other side of the ledger, Ryan’s voting record shows a robust support of big-spending programs to enlarge the role of the federal government, especially when they are promoted by a Republican in the White House. Ryan voted for all of the big-ticket, budget-busting items of the administration of President George W. Bush, including the No Child Left Behind Act and the prescription drug benefit known as Medicare Part D, often described as the largest expansion of the welfare state since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society. Ryan voted to create the new Department of Homeland Security, including the Transportation Security Administration that has harassed air travelers, while making aircraft safe from shoes, belt buckles and grandma’s knitting needles. He voted for the PATRIOT Act, giving government enhanced powers for warrantless snooping into the lives of American citizens as well as foreign nationals. Ryan voted for the Troubled Assets Relief Program that bailed out the “too big to fail” financial institutions and inspired the Tea Party rebellion against big government and “crony capitalism.” He backed the auto bailout that turned GM into “Government Motors.”
    And while conservatives generally like to leave wars and military spending off the list of costly “big government” programs, Ryan’s record on that front is also troubling. Like Romney, Ryan has no foreign policy credentials and no record of military service to point to in the election campaign. And like Romney, Ryan swallowed whole the Bush-Cheney line on Iraq and supported the decision to invade and occupy that country in a needless war that cost more than 4,000 American and hundreds of thousands Iraqi lives and has added roughly a trillion dollars to our soaring national debt. Ryan’s budget calls for no reduction in military spending, despite the continued presence of U.S. troops in some 130 countries around the world, most of which have no bearing on our own national security.
    Even more troubling is Ryan’s vote last December in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act. The legislation included a provision authorizing the president to use the military to arrest suspected terrorists, including American citizens apprehended in the United States, and hold them indefinitely, without charges and without trial, in clear violation of due process rights guaranteed by the Constitution. This year Ryan voted against an amendment to remove that provision from the law.
    Ryan did vote against reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, which grants loans and loan guarantees to foreign governments and businesses for the purchase of U.S. products. But his vote last year for the $915 billion Omnibus Appropriations Bill for 2012 went to support further spending on housing, education, foreign aid, and other programs for which there is no constitutional role for the federal government. On The New American magazine’s latest Freedom Index, matching congressional votes with the strictures of the Constitution, Ryan’s rating for the 112th Congress to date was an anemic 67 percent.
    Paul Ryan is, in short, a typical Bush-era Republican, whose selection as a vice presidential candidate is being trumpeted as a triumph by many of the same Republicans who are doing their best to flush the administration of George W. Bush down the memory hole. Republican candidates almost never invoke the Bush name and the most recent Republican President will not be attending the party’s convention in Tampa, where Romney and Ryan are expected to be officially nominated. Chances are the name of the 43rd president will be mentioned in rare fleeting reference, if at all. Yet in his choice of running mate, Romney has chosen a loyal Bush Republican and reliable supporter of the programs and policies that made the Bush administration an anathema to genuine conservatives and an embarrassment to the nation.
    Finally, the Ryan budget, while including a number of unspecified cuts in entitlement programs, would push overall spending higher than current levels. Despite its optimistic revenue projections, the Congressional Budget Office projects the Ryan plan will lead to a balanced budget by 2040.That suggests a rousing slogan for the Romney-Ryan ticket: “Slightly Less Socialism and a Balanced Budget in 28 Years.”

    The Internet has been burning up about the “Comeback Team” after Willard Romney announced his VP choice as Paul Ryan. Star of conservatives because of his “leadership” in heralding “smaller government” and Ryan’s much touted efforts to solve America’s financial crisis. Sounds good – until you read the label.
    The problem with those who think Paul Ryan has solutions is they don’t even know the how the problem got started and neither do reporters or journalists who write this type of flashy trash:
    “Ronald Reagan famously challenged Mikhail Gorbachev to “Tear down this wall!” Mitt Romney has just challenged President Obama to “Show us your plan!” Mr. Obama has painted this presidential election as a stark choice; in choosing Paul Ryan as his running mate, GOP contender Mitt Romney has answered in kind. While Reagan pushed Gorbachev to free his country, Romney will now push Mr. Obama to address our nation’s fiscal abscess — something the president has resolutely refused to do.
    “Paul Ryan is the nation’s premier budget wonk; he understands better than anyone that the looming fiscal cliff is nothing compared to the chasm that lies further down the road. He has studied the future, and he has a plan. Nothing could be more important. Without a clear program for reducing our deficits, our social safety net will unravel and our investments in our future – in schools, in infrastructure, in defense — will wither.”
    As Dr. Edwin Vieira wrote in one of his scholarly columns in 2005:
    “Contrary to a widespread belief, socialism in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe did not collapse because of the clever geostrategic maneuvers of the Reagan Administration. Neither did the East Bloc break up because its leaders were incompetents who put into practice the wrong plans. Particular politicians and policies–East or West–had next to nothing to do with it….
    “Economic theory also teaches that any scheme of fiat currency and fractional-reserve central banking is just as inherently flawed, incapable of permanent existence, and inevitably doomed to disaster as all-around, full-blown socialism, because fractional-reserve central banking systematically subverts the free market’s structure of prices through expansion of currency and credit–which results in redistribution of wealth, misallocation of scarce capital, and collapse in either depression or hyperinflation followed by depression. This is no new insight. The problems fractional-reserve banking causes were widely discussed in the 1800s; and the whole subject of political versus free-market money was exhaustively examined by Ludwig von Mises, in his treatise The Theory of Money and Credit, first published in the 1920s. (Probably the best book on this subject now available for the average reader is Murray Rothbard’s The Mystery of Banking.) But, throughout the Western world during the 1900s and even unto the present moment, the political elite, high finance and big business, and their hired intelligentsiia have generally ignored these problems–doubtlessly because irredeemable currency and fractional-reserve central banking have served their short-term interests, and the costs of the system have always been paid by picking the pockets of the common man.”
    Paul Ryan’s budget is another Band Aid because he, like Romney, either don’t seem to understand the problem with fiat currency or they know where the butter comes from for their bread. Both of them are polished salesman and what they’re selling you is not in your best interests. Slick PR techniques and the usual buzz words meant to appeal to those who don’t understand the problem, but are so desperate for the solution. Paul Ryan did not support Ron Paul’s critical bill in 2007 – H.R.2755 – Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act. Not one member of Congress became a cosponsor because they need the unconstitutional “Federal” Reserve candy store to continue their toxic spending for endless wars, unconstitutional cabinets and agencies. That alone should tell you all you need to know about the “Comeback Team.”
    Paul Ryan’s budget does not eliminate a single unconstitutional cabinet (Department of Education, EPA, HHS, SBA and hundreds of agencies like USAID), illegal spending for foreign aid, payments to the International Monetary Fund and other foreign entanglements. “Smaller government” is nothing but a slogan to keep the party’s base and entice independents who are so desperate, they will support their own destruction. As the great military tactician, Sun Tzu said: You destroy your enemy while making them think it’s a good idea. Paul Ryan’s budget fits the bill perfectly.
    I’m sorry to say that conservatives who support the “comeback team” are supporting the continued destruction of this republic.
    Please, before you send off that nasty email, I know exactly what you’re going to write: Do you want Obama reelected? Of course not. Barry Soetoro aka Obama was not eligible in 2008, therefore no one had the right to vote for him. The same massive con job is alive and well today. Soetoro still isn’t constitutionally eligible and no one has the right to vote for him. Due to the utter cowardice of every member of Congress, judges and elected officials, one of the greatest fraud in our history will continue and Hussein will be on the ballot. I know Ron Paul’s faithful supporters are still working to see him shock the world and get the nomination for the Republican Party at their convention later this month.
    I simply believe people should read the label before they buy the product so they aren’t disappointed down the line. Start putting their time and efforts at the state level instead of going back to sleep hoping Romney and Ryan will somehow pull off a miracle regarding our dead economy and what’s coming at us like a high speed train.
    Let’s examine Paul Ryan’s voting record. I’ll start with his consistent votes to destroy the Bill of Rights:
    Voted to create the Department of (Fatherland) Homeland Security which includes the TSA molestation administration. Last December he voted for the National Defense Authorization Act, one I misjudged as not so dangerous, but later learned is no different than the old Soviet Union with their gulags. Ryan voted against an amendment to remove the provisions that allows for American citizens to be picked up on U.S. soil and held indefinitely without charges being filed.
    Voted YES on extending the PATRIOT Act’s roving wiretaps
    Voted NO on requiring FISA warrants for wiretaps in US, but not abroad
    Voted YES on allowing electronic surveillance without a warrant
    Voted YES on continuing intelligence gathering without civil oversight
    Voted YES on federalizing rules for driver licenses to hinder terrorists
    Ryan’s reputation as someone who is gung ho for “smaller government” is shattered by his voting record:
    Voted YES on $192B additional anti-recession stimulus spending
    Voted YES on the TARP bailouts
    Voted YES on $15B bailout for GM and Chrysler

    Voted YES on providing $70 million for Section 8 Housing vouchers
    Voted YES on extending unemployment benefits from 39 weeks to 59 weeks
    Voted YES on Head Start Act
    Every one of those is 100% unconstitutional.
    Congress had ZERO constitutional authority to steal the fruits of our labor for any of them. Paul Ryan wouldn’t know what the U.S. Constitution says if James Madison stood in front of him and read it word for word.
    Ryan voted for the No Child Left Behind failure. Another unconstitutional program stealing the fruits of your labor. The “Federal” Department of Education is unconstitutional, but I don’t see Ryan calling to abolish it and turn education back to the states where it constitutionally belongs.
    Another globalist who has voted for every job killing treaty since he’s been in Congress. Rock star Ryan supports the communist United Nations with the sweat of your labor.
    Supports the vile World Trade Organization
    Voted YES on promoting free trade with Peru
    Voted YES on implementing CAFTA, Central America Free Trade
    Voted YES on implementing US-Australia Free Trade Agreement
    Voted YES on implementing US-Singapore free trade agreement
    Voted YES on implementing free trade agreement with Chile
    Voted NO on withdrawing from the WTO
    He voted NO on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment. Hospitals and schools are magnets for illegals who steal the fruits of our labor, yet Ryan wants to protect them. The same illegals who hold an estimated 11.5 MILLION jobs that belong to Americans.
    To his credit, Paul Ryan, has always voted to protect unborn babies. We know Romney was in favor of and supported killing unborn babies until he decided to run for president. Romney supports sodomy (think AIDS) and all the “lavender” diseases sodomites suffer from and spread around. Romney says sexual deviants should be allowed in the Boy Scouts -a prime target rich environment for sexual deviants to prey upon. It appears Ryan does not support the propaganda about “gay rights”.
    Like Romney, Paul Ryan is a firm supporter of America invading non threatening countries and punishing their populations. War is business and business has boomed for over a decade thanks to “conservatives” like Paul Ryan:
    Voted NO on removing US armed forces from Afghanistan
    Voted NO on investigating Bush impeachment for lying about Iraq
    Voted NO on redeploying US troops out of Iraq starting in 90 days
    Voted YES on declaring Iraq part of War on Terror with no exit date
    Voted YES on approving removal of Saddam & valiant service of US troops
    Voted YES on authorizing military force in Iraq
    Strengthen sanctions on Syria & assist democratic transition
    No contact & enforce sanctions on Iran until threat is gone
    Boycott & sanctions against Iran for terrorism & nukes

    So, what do we do? The Internet is full of opinions that everyone should stay at home and not vote. Boycott the election in November!!! Putting side the presidential slot, there are other offices on the ballot in November that directly affect you at the local level. Candidates for your state house (very important), local ballot measures, bond measures and sometimes constitutional amendments to your state constitution. Staying home and not voting hurts you and your family, so get out and vote.
    As for the presidential race, unless there some miracle happens, Soetoro will be illegally on the ballot in all 50 states. Of course, you can write in Mickey Mouse. You can write in Ron Paul. That’s your choice, but think long and hard about this time around. I have and the whole thing turns my stomach.
    I know there is huge opposition to Romney because he is a Mormon, which many Christians believe is a cult. Religion evokes some of the most heated debates in America. Everyone has an opinion. I know people of the Mormon faith who I like and respect. We get along just fine even though I don’t support their choice. It’s called religious freedom, one of the most important freedoms we enjoy.     I don’t know which religion gets the most hate mail in my email box, Mormons, Catholics or people of the Jewish faith. Paul Ryan is Roman Catholic. He’s married with three children, and like Romney (thankfully), there doesn’t appear to be any Monica Lewinsky’s or other messy things Soetoro’s minions can make big headlines with over the next few months.
    The big PR machine is in full swing with headlines like “Ryan energizes GOP base.” Only for those who have no understanding of how the problem with “big spending” started, how it was made possible or the only solution. Desperate people who want to hope the cure for America’s economic problems will be addressed by Willard and Paul. No, they won’t. It will be more Band Aids because the solutions are never even mentioned.
    Hope is fine. We all hope things are going to get better in the future, but not with the same Outlaw Congress getting reelected this November (except for maybe a few seats in the Senate) and not with the “comeback team.” Our major focus has to be the states to checkmate the tyranny coming out of Washington, DC and dry up “federal” programs by refusing money thrown at your state house. In January we have to lean on our state legislatures like a one ton elephant.
    You can vote for the “comeback team,” but don’t expect anything to change except the deck chairs on the Titanic. In November, tens of millions of GOP voters will hold their nose and vote for what’s offered them because there is no choice. Again. I guess the only way to take the bitter medicine is this: A vote for Willard Romney is a vote against the Marxist impostor president. You’re not voting to support Romney or Paul Ryan’s sales pitch, you’re voting to keep the usurper out of office for a second illegal term.

    It has happened again. We go through this every four years, and every four years the vast majority of “conservatives” fall for it. This is such a broken record. What did Forrest Gump say: “Stupid is as stupid does”? And wasn’t it P.T. Barnum who said, “There’s a sucker born every minute”? Well, here we go again.
    Neocon RINO George H.W. Bush picks “conservative” Dan Quayle. “Conservative” G.W. Bush picks neocon RINO Dick Cheney. Neocon RINO John McCain picks “conservative” Sarah Palin. Now, neocon RINO Mitt Romney picks “conservative” Paul Ryan. As long as there is one “conservative” on the ticket, mushy-headed “conservatives” across the country will go into a gaga, starry-eyed, hypnotic trance in support of the Republican ticket. I’m convinced that if Lucifer, himself, was the GOP Presidential candidate, he would get the support of the Religious Right and Republican “conservatives” as long as he selected a reputed “conservative” to join his ticket. And, by the way, the notable “conservative” wouldn’t think twice about joining such a ticket, either, I’m convinced.
    Let’s just get this on the record: since 1960, there have only been two Presidential nominees (from the two major parties) who were not controlled by the globalist elitists. One was a Democrat, John F. Kennedy; the other was a Republican, Ronald Reagan. Kennedy was shot and killed; Reagan was shot. Every other President, Democrat or Republican, has been totally controlled, which is why none of them have done diddly-squat to make a difference in the direction of the country. On the issues that really matter, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are just more of the same!
    Ok! I hear all the boos!
    So, let me ask you, how many unborn babies in Massachusetts did Romney save? What did Mitt Romney do to preserve, protect, and defend the Second Amendment in the State of Massachusetts? How unlike Obamacare was Romneycare? You’re telling us that the same people who elected and reelected Ted Kennedy elected Mitt Romney, because both men are conservatives? And you expect us to not laugh, right?
    Listen folks, a Presidential administration is defined more by foreign policy than by domestic policy. When it comes to rogue domestic policies attempted by the executive branch of government in Washington, D.C., there are many safeguards, checks and balances that the several sovereign states are able to do to resist said policies. In fact, when it really comes right down to it, any federal policy is only so much spit in the wind without the approval and approbation of the states. So, quit bellyaching about what the President says or does, and get serious about what your State governors, attorney generals, State legislators and senators, county sheriffs, and city mayors are doing. However, foreign policy is another matter.
    The only checks and balances to a President’s foreign policy decisions reside inside the Beltway, mostly with Congress. And herein lies the problem: both Democrat and Republican congresses over the past many decades have literally abdicated their constitutional responsibilities relative to providing checks and balances to the executive branch and have granted almost dictatorial powers to the White House when it comes to foreign policy.
    There is one domestic issue in which there are almost no checks and balances by anyone in the federal or State governments. And this is the outgrowth of this globalist, interventionist, Warfare State that has been proliferating exponentially ever since the Lyndon Johnson administration: the Nanny State, which is a polite way of saying, the Police State.
    The Police State is excused and fueled by the Warfare State. We must have the Department of Homeland Security, because we are at war. We must have the Patriot Act, because we are at war. We must have a total surveillance society, because we are at war. We must sacrifice our individual and civil liberties, because we are at war. We must accept drones flying over our neighborhoods, because we are at war. Our bank records must be turned over to the Feds, because we are at war. Our electronic communications records must be turned over to the Feds, because we are at war. The list never ends.
    To get an idea of how serious this burgeoning Police State is becoming, read this article in the very Republican-friendly Washington Times. If an article like this appears in the WT, you know the reality is actually much worse. Read the Times article.
    Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to take the blinders off: neither Mitt Romney nor Paul Ryan is going to do anything to change the status quo. Nada. Nothing. Zero. Zilch.
    As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney doesn’t have a voting record on these national Warfare State/Police State issues. But Paul Ryan does. And it isn’t pretty!
    Jane Aitken wrote an excellent synopsis of Paul Ryan’s voting record that appeared on She noted that Ryan voted for federalizing rules for driver licenses; voted to make the Patriot Act permanent; voted to allow electronic surveillance without a warrant; voted to authorize military force in Iraq; voted to spend an “emergency” $78 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; voted to declare Iraq part of the “War on Terror” with no exit date; and voted against redeploying US troops out of Iraq.
    Aitken also wrote, “Congressman Ryan supports the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, federal bailouts, increased federal involvement in education, unconstitutional and undeclared wars, Medicare Part D (a multi-trillion dollar unfunded liability), stimulus spending, and foreign aid.”
    That’s why I say, on the issues that really matter, Paul Ryan is just more of the same.
    Ron Paul is the only Presidential candidate (from the two major parties) since John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan who hasn’t been controlled by the globalist elite. Unfortunately, the Republican machine (with massive support from the national press corps) has made sure–often by unethical and illegal means, by the way–that Dr. Paul will not be the GOP nominee.
    So, here we go again!
    That said, if I were a betting man, I would put my money on Romney winning in November. Unlike Bill Clinton’s Teflon veneer, the sheen has worn off Obama. Only die-hard Democrats and ultra-liberal independents could stomach voting for him a second time. But the problem is a Romney-Ryan administration will do nothing to change the downward spiral of the nation. They will continue the fanatical interventionist, preemptive war policies of Obama and Bush. They will also continue to build and construct the Orwellian domestic Police State–and as Sonny and Cher sang, “The Beat Goes On.”
    Sadder still is the fact that after Romney is elected in November, the vast majority of “conservatives” will do what they always do when a Republican is elected President: go into deep, extended hibernation–lasting exactly four years and awaking just in time to go through the façade all over again. What was it that Forrest Gump and P.T. Barnum said?

        i read that all congressmen are briefed daily on developments long before these hit the news and they are free to invest accordingly. now this is what i read. i am not privy to the deliberations in the senate and congressional chambers, nor any conversations in the capitol cloakroom. but this explains how these politicians return home much richer than when they arrived in town. for example, lyndon johnson, who came from a dirt bowl dust patch in texas and dressed accordingly.

        There should be no insider trading rules. It is just another of the many ways Government aids their Crony Capitalists by making it harder for ordinary people to get information. I used to be able to call the Shareholder Relations Dept. of companies that I owned stock in, and get information about what was going on. Now their lips are sealed until the reporting day. But don’t think for a minute that somebody isn’t leaking news (very carefully) to their buddies. Laws are made to be broken. Now the people with the edge are the ones who can afford the equipment to get information the instant it is released. I’d rather have the Corporate Officers, who actually make the company what it is, profit from the news than to have some Joe Blow, who had nothing to do with the company’s success, sitting on the wire and making the profit from the news.
        And for those instances where the company’s officers sell their stock because they know there is bad news yet to be released, that should be up to the courts and the shareholders to hash out.

They ignored the PDB that warned of the attacks (that came on 9/11/01). They threw us into one costly meaningless war (Iraq) and into another with no plan or will for success (Afghanistan). They decided not to fund the wars but to borrow to fight the open ended wars. They were at least PART of the reason our economy took a nose dive in late ’08 and paniced to try to keep our country from economic collapse. Our economy is not doing great, which is pretty much the story around the world, but it is not in a tail-spin as it was when President Obama took office.

      he was born in hawaii because ann dunham was just 18 at the time and her parents never could have financed any trip to kenya. also her husband b obama sr was a student at the u of h on subsistance grants and he had no access to funds for any trip like that. even if the money magically appeared, i don’t that she, being pregnant, would have the inclination to go through all the hassles of booking the flights and getting her passport and visas while making the other arrangements. also would she seriously want to give birth in a third world country? well there, possibly. kenya was a british colony then and they did establish hospitals, schools, roads and railroads. so in effect they could proudly say to the africans, you didn’t build that.

    i read atlas shrugged when in acapulco in 1988, a great book for the beach although a bit bulky, awkward to hold with one hand. the whole premise is based on 2 inventions, hank reardon’s miracle metal (probably titanium, which would have been relatively unknown in the 30s so credit ayn rand for that one) and the twentieth century motors perpetual motion machine as designed by john galt. this gets into fantasy and makes you wonder, what if she had written about an ordinary motor that just got better gas mileage instead. notice that in the book all of dagney’s locomotives ran on steam and so this just shows how visionary the author was not. but interestingly malcolm forbes also built a tent in the desert made of ice. i think this was supposed to be the atlas shrugged moment.

    I voted Paul in the primary, and will vote Romney for the election. Why? Not because he is Ronnie. Rather, we could recover from a Romney presidency. We will never, ever, EVER recover from another four years of Bumbling Barack, the Fabian socialist. Also, I would rather have Romney appointing a Supreme Court judge than Obama.
    No, it’s not ideal. But the reality is that if you vote otherwise, then you are only assuming complete collapse will lead to a renewal of the country. This may occur, but it’s a long shot

      I’ve been hearing that same trite warning, that so and so would get elected if we don’t vote for the lesser of those two evils, for over 40 years now. And where has it gotten us? Less Freedom, Less Prosperity. There is no chance of reaching our destination if we don’t travel in the correct direction.
      It’s time to break the mold and vote only on Principles. Quit underwriting the Devil. Whether we win the vote or not, we will still win the pride of knowing that we did the right thing, and that it wasn’t us who put Evil in Office.

        DaveH, our founding fathers were not monolithic in thought and belief. Many fractions of “ways of thinking” about how best to form and then govern this land were quite evident. Some were wrong in their thinking about which ways were best, but personally were not malevolent at heart to this country and its people.

        Your judgemental and authoritarian litmus test of many of those that comment here is faulty. Which is not a surprise. By its nature, those that are quickly willing to marginalize and demonize others that don’t follow the unyielding belief of its supposed leader and their lackeys to a “T” are the antithesis of the founding principles on which this country was birth. By their actions as free acting individuals, many at this site invite unwarranted and pretentious labeling upon themself by those like yourself and their desire to control both mind and spirit.

        Proof is in the pudding as the saying goes. One only needs to follow your immediate labeling of many of those that comment at this site, with just “titbits” of an opinion offered, along with paranoid and conspiratorial musings on someone’s occupation status, “blue lights,” progressivism leanings, etc.

        Beware of those that claim the title of purity in thoughts and actions, with little tolerance for those with variances of viewpoints.

    Well, I’m going to try and say this correctly…in terms of Romney’s bid for POTUS and pick as VP, I believe Ryan is by far the best choice that could have been made.

    The Dems, the O’man camp, the MSM and all of the hatefull leftists that immediately started their attacks on Ryan are a detriment to O’man’s re-election barring any surprises that would cancel the election.

    More American’s are tired of hearing the same rhetoric and seeing the same hatefull and despicable tactics and outright lies that the Obama team has used since he “burst” into politics. Textbook Alinsky “Rules for Radicas”…and now recognized as the “go to” playbook by anyone with a brain larger than a pea.

    Paul Ryan will take Obama’s rhetoric head on and expose it and him for what he is and make a strong case to the American people why “Obama must go” and how his supporters have been “played as fools” and used to further a agenda that has anything good in it to improve this nations woes.

    I don’t say this because I endorse Romney/Ryan…I don’t.
    What I’m sayin’ is that we the people have had enough of the dirty Chicago community organizer and his hatefull and devisive politics that has done nothing but denegrate the office of POTUS and the USA. Everyday more and more people now recognize this and after 4+ years you’d think they were intelligent enough to figure a new strategy rather than the Alinsky/Axelrod method. Alas, the intellectual Marxist/communist/socialist/progressives lack the savvy of the average working men and women.

      Well, He claims to know the numbers, which even that is in dispute depending on who you talk to.

      If he thinks that a $5000.00 medical voucher per person per year is some kind of answer to medical cost, ~ I need to know more, like does it roll over from year to year? Is it employer based? What happens when you come up $20,000 dollars short? I have many questions. A simple broken leg could run upward of 20, 000 dollars from injury to full recovery, easily.

      I don’t think Paul Ryan has been very involved with the injured or aging to have a grasps of what he attempts to oversee and manage. Not doubt , he is a busy man doing more important things.

        I heard today that the RNC said Ron Paul could speak at the convention only if it is scripted. He turned them down so cannot speak. Last I heard he was still a candidate. The only way we get a constitutionalist (or anybody else) in office with the cooperation of congress and senate is to start sending a clear message that we are collectively tired of the choices they keep handing us on both the dem and rep sides. Second; gather, commune, unite, become the majority of the vote in all elections to solidify our resovle for drastic and serious change.       phoenix, The convention is at the end of the month and the rnc cannot pick the nominee, that is what the delegates are supposed to be doing. But they have changed the rules throughout this whole time to keep Ron Paul out, they are actually forcing the delegates to vote for Romney. So the lawyers took them to court to unbind the delegates. He was not suppose to pick a VP seeing he is NOT the nominee. everyone should be taking pause at what is happening.

Look up the act of 1871 online and start researching from there how our nation was changed from a Republic, with the states and the people being the rulers, to the creation of the U.S. corporation with all power going to the corporation and then the creation of the federal reserve and learn how the progressives have mortgaged the U.S. to the bankers who control the federal reserve and that even the people of the U.S. were mortgaged. Then you will begin to understand why elected officials no longer follow the Constitution. The corporation has it’s own constitution which gives them sole authority. The original Constitution means nothing to them!
          The two parties have been two sides of the same coin now for decades. They don’t do what we the people want them to do, they do the bidding of the CFR, Trilateral commission and the Bildergergs and that is to lead America into a one world government, with the U.S. being nothing more than a nation state of that world government!

        David if you’re going to answer for Dee, then answer the questions asked. As far as your comment that Constituationalist and Libertarians have learned the truth. Thats a laugh and a scary statement. Even if those two groups were graded against the other groups, and were found to be superior. They still have not learned the truth. Just maybe more of it. But if you’re thinking that I’m attacking those that consider themself Constitutonalists or Libertarians, you really, really do have me scared.

        Because the trouble with your statement “that is because they have learned the truth” is a sign of delusion. No one has all the answers. Even if some are more correct on the political answers of the day than others, there is no one perfect in though or action.

        Those that used litmus testing of others, especially when they use only a few comments from other individuals, and on top of that, on just a few issues, to then marginize others that they think fall across some great political divide. Indicate someone that can easily pass from thoughts of grandeur, to thoughts of repression of others that they disagree.

        It will take more than millions. It will take time, and more believers that can control their emotions while presenting their beliefs. Unfortately, we hear mostly from those with little control over their mouth and their fingers on the keyboard, and not those that do believe in major portions of the libertarian thought. But do not wish to relinish their personal freedoms and thoughts to those that demand a rigid orthodoxy of belief in which to belong.

        Many that visit this site, and claim libertarian beliefs, do far more harm to the movement than any good that they may truly wish to do. Those claiming “ALL” the answers, and condemning those that don’t adhere exactly to this “small” group of zealot thought, install barriers that slow the growth of many good plans. Which delays or worst, prevents the proper healing of this nation.

Does Chip think giving old people a voucher and telling them to find a private insurance company that will cover them for the amount of the voucher is medicare as we know it? And “more people go on medicare everyday” ? Really? Have you heard of ‘babyboomers”? They have started to reach retirement age. That may have a little something to do with “more people going on medicare everyday”. Ya think?
