How To Choose Your Best Massage

If you’re feeling rundown or experience occasional aches and pains, a relaxing massage may be the answer to your troubles. Choosing the right massage technique is an important first step to receiving the relief you’re seeking.

To get the most benefit, Tiffany Field, Ph.D., director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine, suggests requesting a massage that applies moderate pressure.

Here are her four best recommended types of massage:

  • Swedish massage: This is a basic technique that uses long, gentle, soothing strokes to achieve general relaxation. Its main objective is to increase circulation.
  • Deep tissue massage: This is a more intense massage that targets areas deep within your muscles and tendons with added pressure.
  • Trigger point massage: This is a technique where specific areas of the body are deeply massaged. For example, your shoulders, neck or lower back are massaged.
  • Hot stone massage: This technique involves the therapist placing hot, smooth stones along certain places on your body. The heat and the pressure can increase blood flow.

    Because of the pain you will feel the next day, Moderate pressure or less especially, if you are not used to getting a Deep tissue massage and work your way up. A well applied deep tissue massage is worth its inevitable pain 100 times over. Many body builders like deep tissue because they feel it helps increase muscle size, its excellent for stress in my opinion. The other types are fine also, but my money goes for deep.

      I agree with you totaly. How cool that my boss pays for all of us to get a Massage every week now thats a killer perk. The deep tissue really works out the kinks. The lactic acid build up after the first one drops off by 90% so there really is no pain after that.
      If you have a lot of stress on your job you can’t beat a great massage.
