House GOP Attempts To Help Obama Honor His ‘Keep Your Healthcare’ Promise

On Wednesday, House Republicans moved to forcefully give President Barack Obama a chance to make good on his infamous promise that Americans happy with their current healthcare coverage could retain that coverage under Obamacare.

The lower chamber will has scheduled a vote next week on the Keep Your Health Plan Act (HR 3350), which was introduced last week Representative Fred Upton (R-Mich.) with the backing of more than two dozen other GOP lawmakers. The bill currently has 88 co-sponsors.

In a Nov. 4 USA Today op-ed, Upton wrote: “The ‘Keep Your Health Plan Act’ is a simple, sensible solution that would allow health plans being offered today to continue into next year. Particularly as consumers struggle with the error-prone online enrollment process, the Keep Your Health Plan Act is a voluntary escape hatch that would give added flexibility for Americans who truly want to keep the plan they have.

“Implementation of the president’s health care law has generated confusion and concern. That’s not what health reform should be about. Americans deserve to know that in times of need, they will have the coverage and care that they want, need and can afford.”

Some Democrats, including the authors of a similar bill Senators Mary Landireu (D-La.) and Joe Manchin, have also expressed support for the Upton effort.

It’s to late, a simple bill to require insurance companies to continue with a customers insurance is entirely up to that insurance company. Obamacare has already damaged the insurance company why would they want to go through this again?

    • Muffin Man Mashinksy

There has never been such a horrible mess regarding private companies & the federal govt. The whole blasted boondoggle is insane…I know people are suffering, but GOP needs to let it play out & stop trying to fix it at this point & keep reminding everyone it was a totally LOONY TUNE LIB thang & hope enough Americans are awake & not too brainwashed to kick some DEMs out of senate in 2014!

      • dcwc16

Right on Muffin Man Unless the Dem’s are totally insane they will all get the point eventually when they get their letters and realize they have been had with the old bait and switch and the only replacement policy offered is 50% higher with massive deductibles.

        • lottopol

Do you differentiate between someone who
gets a letter, like my son did, stating that the policy you now have will no longer be available after January 1,2014 and the insurance company i would be happy to offer you a better policy and that you now have the ability to go to the state health insurance exchange to see if you can get an even better plan (which he did at much less cost), and the millions of people who have no insurance now and typically do not get a lump that might be a tumor checked until it is too late?

Switzerland is one of the most conservative
pro-business anti-tax countries in the world. It is illegal for a Swiss bank to provide information to a tax authority including the Swiss Government. Adult
male homeowners in Switzerland are required by law to have fire arms in their homes and if a homeowner requests it, the Swiss government will give the homeowner a heavy machine gun. (one of the reasons Hitler did not invade Switzerland during
World War II). Even Switzerland had to abandon market-priced healthcare.

“..The USA is the last holdout with market-priced medical care not because of any inherent
conservative or free market ideology. Rather, as the wealthiest nation that ever existed we are the last ones who can afford it. Switzerland was one of the last
advanced economies to abandon market-priced medical care. It is arguably a greater bastion of conservatism than the USA. Switzerland’s women were not granted the right to vote until 1971…”

          • dcwc16

If our Politicians were as together as Switzerland I might be for Obamacare, but you have to know the politicians in power here, are the exact opposite of Switzerland. Anti business, high tax, anti gun, expanded power, redistributionist. The other error is we do not have an open market health system as they are regulated to discourage free market activity yet given what we have seen so far in Obamacare it can not compete with even the limited free market insurance we have now.

          • Robert Messmer

Switzerland makes some really good chocolate. What does that have to do with the topic, nothing. Just like all the other talk about Switzerland. BTW Swiss banks co-operated with Holder and turned over information on American customers.

I am very happy for your son. As to the others, most of them still won’t have any insurance since ACA was not intended to help healthcare just designed to increase taxes which is what SCOTUS said.

          • lottopol

The point is that the statement “You can keep your health plan and doctors etc.” was a lie is not because some insurance companies are now cancelling old policies and replacing them with new policies as they have been doing for years, but rather that without price controls most everyone will eventuallt have much diferent health care and that even with the eventual price controls health care will be changed..

“…The reason that no nation, including the wealthiest can allow markets to set the prices of medical care indefinitely is that demand for medical care is inelastic. Demand for a good or service is inelastic if a percentage increase in price results in a smaller percentage decrease in the quantity demanded. Basic economics tells us that sellers facing inelastic demand will continuously raise prices until prices reach the elastic portion of the demand curve. Consequently in every developed country in the world, all goods or services with inelastic demand have their prices regulated by government. Medical care in the USA being the only exception….”

        • real talk 1

My problem with that is when they get that letter I will get another letter telling my taxes went up as well

      • real talk 1

Let’s hope so let us pray.

  • Mary

They would only allow you to keep it for one year till after the 2014 elections. Who would benefit from this? The Democrats of course. Republicans can be their own worst enemies. Don’t think for a minute after the elections the premiums wouldn’t rise.

    • FreedomTrainUSA

The entire DC CESSPOOL needs to be REPLACED….

      • real talk 1

It would take an act of God those thieves will never leave the birds nest.

    • real talk 1

Stop putting spooky things in my head.

    • rhondareichel

Not if we get out and vote the democrats out

  • jim_wright

This act will not work. This is yet again the federal government trying to bypass the real economic market forces. The entire medical economy has been completely changed by Obamacare. This is the future of our healthcare thankd to Obama and the democrats.

    • real talk 1

They can take a bow they did it on purpose.

  • 1Reddevil

When Oasshole promised that you can keep your Blah blah blah. He knew the first time he said it. That it was a lie. If ever in the history of the world a person needed removed from office Oasshole is the one. We need a 20 million person march on DC. To make these liars to clean up their act or get out of town.

  • Libertarian58

“Not a dimes worth of difference. . .” All these GOPs are doing is helping obamacare to succeed. Who’s side are they on, really?

    • Motov

Proves what I stated, The two parties are on the opposite side of the same coin. We would do so much better if we ignore both parties and vote in someone else from a third party, or we can vote for a person who doesn’t belong to any party at all.

      • real talk 1

        That’s right on the money.

    • native blood

Hopefully on the side of the common working person.

      • real talk 1

That would be the right answer but are they?

    • real talk 1

I don’t think they really know.

    • rhondareichel

The dollar is hanging on by a thread….Fed is printing 85 billion a month and lending it out to bankers and Europeans….it’s time for drastic action
They need to defund it even if it means letting the govt. default

No individual will be able to keep their plan! It is an impossibility, as the law we find is written. For this to work, those that do have, will have to once again, pay for those that don’t have and those that are healthy, will have to pay for those that are more or less terminally sick!
This is no different than any other government hand out program to the quote, unquote poor!

  • Mikebark

Oh no! Republicans, please, leave it ALONE! Don’t try to help! The last thing we want to do is throw Obama a rope! He created this quagmire, let him drown in it! Once Obamacare is repealed maybe we can help the insurance companies get back on their feet and get everything back to normal like before anybody heard of Obama. This happened before when Newt Gingrich was speaker of the house. Bill Clinton was reeling in political disaster, then Newt pulled his fat out of the fire. The economy took off and Bill took all the credit for it. When will republicans learn, when democrats are on fire, throw gasoline!

    • rhondareichel

Surely they knew the devastation to the economy….ever think he might be doing this on purpose to cause a collapse so he could declare martial law….I think that may be the motive

  • Warrior

Well “dingy” was asked about this bill being brought up for senate consideration. Little “dingy’s” response was there a “hundreds” of bills brought up “every week” for review. See, and we didn’t believe these people keep themselves “busy”. “Dingy” just informed all of us that he is the “busiest” of the “busy people”. Impressive “dingy”. Very “impressive”.

  • carol morgan

it might be helpful to remember which ones stood against ted Cruz and mike lee when they tried to get obamacare DEFUNDED! the people who live in the states where these rinos are supposed to be representing you, you nened to VOTE THEMOUT of OFFICE!

    • real talk 1

Now that would be the right thing to do.

    • carol morgan

one thing i see as a real problem is that so many of us forget what these jokers do between campaigns and elections, and some don’t even know who their senators and representatives are, much less how they vote on the pertinent issues. in idaho, Crapo and Risch are our senators, and Labrador and Simpson are our representatives. and they do a good job voting the way we want…how bout yours?

      • rhondareichel

Tell them directly …if you don’t have time to stay informed DON’T VOTE
That’s the excuse I hear most often —so what good is an uniformed vote? So many now are so sorry they voted for Obama….shame on them
Voting is a CIVIC DUTY not a game or a popularity contest

        • carol morgan

i totally agree! i was talking to my son as we went to vote Tuesday, that the reason the country is in this shape is because people don’t see what their candidates stand for or if they represent your beliefs, and people get so lazy about finding these things out. imagine if people really paid attention, the career politicians would have been ousted long ago. we cant even blame it on the media in this age where almost anything can be found o n the internet. and not knowing who your senators and reps are. we just had our votes for mayor and city council. we gotta wake up and act like we are awake!

  • Mark Desade

Sen Ted Cruz, Texas and Sen Mike Lee of Utah will wind up looking like prescient heroes when next year rolls around. In 2014, new taxes to fund Obamacare kick in. Most people will see a reduction in their take home pay. Additionally, premiums and deductibles will go up. Lastly, where are the 10’s of millions of people with newly acquired insurance get their treatment at? There aren’t enough hospitals, doctors and nurses now. When Obamacare kicks in, some hospitals will shut down and some doctors retired. Many doctors won’t accept Medicaid, which is what people are signing up for on Obamacare, instead of the insure exchanges by a 10 to 1 margin. The system will be overwhelmed and reduced to rubbish. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee will look like sages when this happens.

    • rhondareichel

They look like heroes now to me….any fool can see where this is going

  • KennyLLC

G.W. Boosh made a Youtube video that caused Obamacare coverage to shoot through the roof !
    No, wait…the Republicans did it…THAT’S IT !

    • real talk 1

      Don’t believe it .

      • KennyLLC

        It’s called ironic sarcasm.
        oh well..

  • Robert Brennan

How can Obama be a liar to be that one would have to tell the truth at least once!

    • real talk 1

      You got a point.

  • Motov

Why would the GOP touch anything as toxic as Obozocare?

    • real talk 1

      No idea

    • rhondareichel

They won’t….they should have defunded it when they had the chance

  • Al Chemist

The House needs a serious house cleaning. 2014.

    • native blood

      So too the senate

      • real talk 1

        You’re both right.

    • red55bird

Short but sweet and so very true, but it may take a revolution to get back America from the Communist blue states with no voter I.D.

      • real talk 1

        That’s no lie.

    • real talk 1

It’s the senate that needs a good cleaning .

    • fahkir1

The Senate is the one that needs cleaning.

  • native blood

My thought on the matter is: All the HMO and HC providers are merging with ACA to get those big government bucks. Most people are getting drop letters because those same companies are taking what profits they have and run. Then they will change names and join the ACA coalition. With Congress starting a “keep your policy” bill is nothing more than political Kabuki theater to try keeping Republicans from fleeing the coupe. Not necessarily to the Democrats but to the Tea Party. Just sayin’.

    • rhondareichel

It was always a giveaway to insurance companies….they were consulted to weed out their competition …I heard only 4 main companies will be left standing

  • 1baronrichsnot1

Something is fishy! Why are so many of congress and senate for this piece of crap law? It’s a truly defective, deceitful, and harbors larceny, fraud, purjury, cronyism, and is overpriced for what you get! The whole thing is a lie! Written by liars, unions, marxist, and insurance co’s,then passed by these fishy members of both houses who prop it up without reading it! I believe there is wide spread graft and corruption involved, and our reps are being bought off. bought off with fresh printed cash!!! You know that it happens, now don’t yu?

    • real talk 1

      You speak the truth. thanks

    • rhondareichel

Not Ted Cruz…..we might as well default because we will anyway….defund it !

  • CatGman

“Some Democrats, including the authors of a similar bill Senators Mary Landireu (D-La.) and Joe Manchin, have also expressed support for the Upton effort.”
Landrieu is only doing this for damage control. She and others were lining up to vote for Obamacare. After they voted for it they stood up to defend their votes. Now, that the cat is out of the bag and we all see that it is not a cat but a skunk, they will be working on damage control. Whatever it takes to get re-elected.

    • real talk 1

      Very well put thank you.

    • Motov

      ,…and a rabid skunk too,……

    • Ted Crawford

It might also be considered noteworthy that, having voted for it, they quickly voted to exempt themselves and their staff FROM it!

  • Todd

I just received a letter (from Humana) that my existing plan was changing and would go from $145/m to $532/m.

    • rhondareichel

Hope and change….not so inspiring now

      • Todd

was it ever?… only a moron couldn’t see through the BS… people will lie to themselves endlessly for a little hype… I mean hope.

  • Jim B

‘allow health plans being offered today to continue into next year’ BULLCRAP! Kill this now before it has spreads like a cancerous tumor. The utter chaos and economic destruction this mandatory Communist program will bring upon this nation hasn’t even scratched the surface. It seems every one of these political clowns, on both sides, fails the stupid test again! THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR AMERICA…. ANY QUESTIONS?

  • Peggy

Hey don’t worry, the unions, congress and any other a** kisser of omaba is getting relief–congress is getting theirs provided to them, and unions will get credits–I wonder who gets to pay? Hey us.

  • Fedup

B.S.! Nobody in Washington will hold that scumbag’s feet to the fire. All but a handful in Washington are scared to death of that worthless communist. The majority up there are political whores in it for the power, money and easystreet retirement. They will have it made no matter what condition “the people” are in. The only solution is an armed revolution; otherwise, this great nation will be lost.
