Honor Those Who Died For Us

May 30, 2011 by

Honor Those Who Died For Us

Today, all across the United States of America, we take time to honor our fallen soldiers.

We honor them because they chose to defend us, and they died in that defense. We honor them because they chose to serve, even if it was unpopular or dangerous. We honor them because their blood purchased our freedom.

Poets, philosophers and journalists often talk about the price of war, but only those who have served really understand the toll military service can take on a soldier and his or her family. Too many soldiers’ families know the true price of war firsthand.

Memorial Day is a chance to honor a group of citizens that is often turned into just another series of statistics by our modern society. In a sense, we have forgotten their names. This is a great departure from human history.

The ancient Spartans were a warrior race; every man served for a time in the military. Spartan soldiers who died in war were granted a special privilege: Their graves had headstones. Their names were written on the stones so they would not be forgotten.

The ancient Norse believed warriors who died in battle were given a favored place in the afterlife. Their spirits were said to be taken to Valhalla, where they lived among their heroes and gods. For these ancient people, there was no nobler death than that of a soldier defending his people.

Minot J. Savage, a popular 1800s Unitarian preacher, once said: “The brave die never, though they sleep in dust: Their courage nerves a thousand living men.”

Modern warfare has clouded our judgment. The media give us access to the battlefield that we never had before, and our military’s actions are under more scrutiny now. While the American people should always scrutinize the government’s actions with regard to warfare and how and whether we should be conducting a particular war, we should never take out our frustrations regarding decisions made by our elected elites on the soldiers, sailors and airmen. We should venerate our modern warriors in the way of our ancestors.

A soldier who dies in battle today is no less heroic than those who came hundreds or thousands of years before. They face the same fears, even if they don’t use the same weapons. Let us remember their names and, in their memory, let us not take our freedom for granted.

To all of our soldiers, living and dead, active-duty and veterans: We honor you. We honor your sacrifice. We will remember your names.

God bless you all,

Wouldn’t it be nice if our politicians would honor our fallen soldiers by keeping the Oaths they have sworn?

    • EddieW

I have reminded my congressmen several times that they took an oath to defend the Constitution, yet they vote for the “patriot” Act (Orwellian double speak) that rips the Constitution to shreads!!

      Incensed voters ‘repudiate’ Washington’s leadership
Voters across America are fed up with Washington’s behavior, don’t believe representatives are getting the message and may just respond with demands for a constitutional amendment that would wrap duct tape around the profligate spending habits in government, according to a new poll.

    • Bell

Yes, I agree with you, CapTurbo. We as a nation need to continue to stand up for this country. This country was a blessing from God and we need also to get back to him and pray for him to stand with us.

Kissinger said pointedly that “military men were dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy.” was he right? i think in general he was right, there are a few smart ones but the majority is just how he described, what do you think?

and you still go dumbs not the right word

Happy Memorial Day to everyone! Let’s remember those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defending this country and providing us with this freedom that some people take advantage of in a bad way. Let’s fly our flags at half staff, place flags at a veterans grave, attend the parades and ceremonies. Let’s show our patriotism and respect for those that gave everything they had for this great Christian nation. GOD BLESS AMERICA! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

    • Bert Cundle

samurai… Let’s show our patriotism? I SHOW “MY” “PATRIOTISM”: EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OF EVERY DAY… BY HATEING THE CRIMINAL GOVERNMENT!
TRYING TO REESTIBLISH A CIVILIZED GOVERNMENT. FOR CIVILIZED, CITIZANS. ( NOT FOR god,OR COUNTRY!)

      • http://naver samurai

Bert, first of all can you use spell check before you post? Second, what do you mean bot for God or country? What do you think some of the core beliefs of patriotism are, hmmm? Third, you said hate? There is NO HATE in patriotism. I think you need to get off of the kool aid and sit down with these veterans, the ones you see everyday, and ask them what patriotism is. You may be surprised. Knock off the God bashing. It really shows your ignorance. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

        • April

AMEN Samurai!! Thankyou for your Patriotism for GOD and Country!!

          • http://naver samurai

Anytime there, fellow patriot! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

          • Marten

God has nothing to do with the freaking WAR…IT’s men creation!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • http://naver samurai

Marten, you can still believe in God and country and never go to war. What is your point in this? If you don’t think God has anything to do with war, look up how God motivated the Persians to attack the Babylonians and conquer them. The Babylonians surrendered after their water supply was cut off, not firing a shot. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

Memorial Day is set aside so we can not only remember our fallen soldiers throughout our history and now, but a day to be grateful for the men and women who felt this country was worth fighting for and even dieing for.

This fact makes me know this country is still worth living for, and yes even though I am not in the military, I can still fight for my country and her Constitution.

I am not facing an enemy where I am in iminent danger every minute, but we are still facing an enemy of apathy, for where some of our politicians want to take us.

Last week Robert Gates stated they might need to cut the military pay.
WRONG ANSWER! They need to start with Robert Gates salary, cut it. They need to start with the salary of Congress.

Last year in the 4th quarter Congress gave their staff $21.5 million dollars in bonuses, not salaries but bonuses.

This year we, the United States is paying for the GAY FILM FESTIVAL and the after party in BULGARIA.- – - -WHAT???

We need to make our politicians be a lot more responsible and it isn’t just the Democrats here, it is also the Republicans who are doing all of this nonesense.

      REMEMBER OUR FALLEN

      • DC/Tex

You are correct, but you did not mention a couple of things, all elected officials need their salary capped at two times minimum wage, no bonuses and no time off until the country is out of debt, take their pension money and put it in social security, this will pay back some of the billions they have stolen from SS, and all past and present will immediately will draw SS same as the, real, hard working American retirees.

        • Jana

          DC/Tex,

          Great thinking.

      • Boswellian

They work very hard to keep the country running like a swiss clock,
They deserve every penny of their bonus’s,These are intelligent people.

JeffH – Good to have you back!

        • Jana

Hey, I just now noticed. Hurray. We are glad to have you back JeffH.
I noticed on another site rp got censored, finally.

          • http://naver samurai

Yes he did, but if you look at it, some posts from trever got pulled also. If Bob does anything it says “removed” on it, but I know the fool that posted these things and he has some program that can remove his posts. The man is a coward and not worthy to be called an American. Let’s not spoil this day with bad thoughts. Happy Memorial Day! JeffH, glad to see you back. You were gone for awhile, what happened? Are you OK? Keep up the good fight, fellow patriot! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

  • bob wire

Well presented, and thank you Mr. Livingston for such thoughtful words this day.

I tend to go alone and walk though the head stones before the crowds ever arrive. ~ It’s so peaceful and one can be alone with your thoughts. Sometimes I get a chill and the hair on my neck and arms stands up as I pass by. I’m never quite sure what causes this. Is it me or “The Fallen”?

  • karolyn

Every time I hear somebody say “Happy Memorial Day” it makes me cringe. There is nothing to be happy about. All I do is get teary-eyed when I think of my dad, who fought in WWII, and of all the unnecessary deaths in all the wars. I also get po’d at the guys dying in Afghanistan who shouldn’t be. BRING THEM HOME!

    • Dani Butcher

I too do not understand the “happy” part of it. I just say “have a blessed Memorial Day” and remember why we are honoring said day. My heart goes out to all that have lost a loved one to war. Bless you all.

    • Steve B

Karolyn….many of us weep today for the terrible losses of war….and if life has true meaning for us, we should weep. But it is also a time to be happy….because all those sacrifices for our freedom have kept it….and for that we should be glad. Not only should we be glad here in this country….but in many other countries as well….where American flesh and blood has stood between them and evil men who sought to take it away from them.
As a veteran myself,an infantry squad leader….knowing the thick of battle….and standing beside those who died for your freedom, I know, if they were here today your tears would have great meaning…but they would want to wipe them away….and with a gentle smile of their own, they would ask you to smile and be happy….because you are the reason they went and did what they did….love of family, love of country and love of freedom.

      • Jana

        Steve B.,
An excellent post and point of view for us to dwell on.
Thank you for your service and your encouraging words.

      • eyeswideopen

SteveB, my hope for this Memorial Day, is that the people on this site can acknowledge that Democrats died along side their brothers the,Republicans,in equal fashion. Americans, black, white, yellow, brown, and any other color you can fashion, have died for this country and we never asked each other what our political affilation was. We were brothers in arms and defended each other with our lives. I am so thankful that the Democrats in my platoon didn’t hate me for being a Republican. I think what you wrote is beautiful.

    • Sally Tipton

I don’t understand how “happy” could be attached, either. To me, it is a day of somber rememberance, not the “happy” everyone attaches to it. My parents served, as did a brother and 3 sisters, several uncles, a couple who did not return, a nephew, and my husband. I am eternally grateful to their service and sacrifice. And may God bless them and us who they protect everyday!

      • April

I look at the term “happy” for days like today, as a feeling of Gratitude; remembering our fallen heroes as well as looking forward to keeping the dreams of freedom they lived, fought, and died for alive, never letting it be taken for granted. I can imagine smiles on their faces of appreciation for us who do not let their sacrifices die in vain. Happy Memorial Day because we have our Freedom and these soldiers did not fall in vain!! God Bless America!!

God Bless All our brave men and women fighting all over the world and all those who have given their lives so we can live free in this great Christian nation. May God Bless all their families.

    • Bert Cundle

That would be the problem with this Nation!

      • http://naver samurai

If all you are going to do is say negative things on this day, you are no American! What’s that? I hear your mom calling you to go back into her basement. This is a day of rememberance, not insulting the nation. Libs, I sware! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

        • Bert Cundle

samurai: Evidance to your lack of knoledge, & Wisdom… This is NOT AN “AMERICAN” HOLLIDAY — IT’S A UNITED STATES HOLLIDAY! unless you think all solders in the world should be honored for fighting to the death for their leader, that won’t even leave the dinning table for what they believe in!

          • http://naver samurai

United States is PC and American is PIC, so what’s your point? Your post makes no sense whatsoever, plus you really need to use the spell check on your computer more often. As I’ve truthfully said before that this is a day set aside for the remembrance of those that have fought for this country and died for it. I think you need to be making the popping sound here pretty soon. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

P.S. Take your nonsense somewhere else. You’re really showing no patriotism here. You have no love for America, do you? I don’t mean the gov, I mean the country. What a waste of time protecting you for the 20 years I was in the military.

          • Jana

            Samurai,
Thanks for telling it like it is. Bert doesn’t sound very intelligent, but I was hoping.

I would like all our armed forces to know how much I honor and appreciate them. I pray that our Lord Jesus Christ will keep them safe as they try to keep us safe and free. War is a terrible thing but we must kill the enemy before they kill us and destroy our freedom. Todays forces have a much harder time as we must fight with rules while the enemy does not. Also fighting with corrupt, greedy, evil, and immoral elected officials sending them to fight their political wars and a commander in crime that is not a citizen with a forged birth certificate, it must be very tough.
    God Bless America Again!

    • vagabond

Tex. you are so right. when you have a fatassed IDIOT sitting in his airconditioned office making up STUPID rules of engagement it causes good men to die unneccesarely. anyone who doubts this should read Marcus Luttrels book LONE SURVIVER. I am sure the men who have had their hands tied by those STUPID bastards know first hand just how STUPID these R.O.E.are,the men doing the fighting know what they need to do and when they need to do it. let THEM make the R.O.E.,

      • Jana

        vagabond,
Yes, and now Robert Gates is talking about needing to cut the military pay. This would be so WRONG. Lets start with the Congress’ pay, and Robert Gates pay. Put their money where their mouth is!

    • April

      AMEN!!!

  • BrotherPatriot

    It’s Memorial Day.

Time to give thanks & appreciation for all the children of America who have given the ultimate sacrifice to help prosper the American Dream…if only that dream weren’t clouded by the fact that bankers were runnin the show & funding both sides of the war. Thus them pushing both sides into conflict actually brought about the deaths of many good people.

I’m extremely angry about why we have to remember our fallen when so many were manipulated into the wars. Such horror brought onto humanity due to these top elites, their secret societies and their secret Agenda.

Still…let us remember it’s Memorial Day and pay respect to those brave souls who stood up for what they believed to be right.

    God Bless.

  • DavidL

Well said, Mr. Livingston. I could not agree more.God bless our men and women in uniform and all who are in public service. may they always do what is right and put the country first.

  • http://deleted Claire

I offer my heartfelt and humble appreciation to all of our troops and their families. God knows I think of them every day, and God knows I wish they would be brought back home, immediately. Enough of this travesty. Enough of this useless waste of lives and putting our troops in harm’s way, and for what? More heartache and grief? What, in all honesty, has this sham of a war proved? What has been gained? May GOD bless our troops and their families. May God place his hand on their hearts, their souls, give them strength, give them peace and bring them home safely.

    • Al Sieber

You made a very good point Claire and I go along with what you said, bring our troops home now. war has never proven anything.

      • Kate8

Claire and Al – While I am deeply grateful for the sacrifices of those who have gone before us, I, too, see only futility in all of these senseless wars. Today, wars aren’t about preserving, or even winning, liberty for anyone. They are the games of the world elite, and serve only their nefarious ends.

There is nothing to be gained from wars that never cease. When enough people come to realize this, maybe then we’ll start beating weapons into plowshares.

        God have mercy.

        • Jana

          kate8,

          Mic 4:1-4
4 But in the latter days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of Jehovah’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and peoples shall flow unto it.
          2 And many nations shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem;
3 and he will judge between many peoples, and will decide concerning strong nations afar off: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Mr. Livingston thanks. As a retired service person – I appreciate your comments and I know God will bless our men and women in the Armed Forces, Fire Fighters and Police Officers that serve us daily. I just got back from Europe and visited Normandy France. While I was there, I notice about 200 young people that was in groups of 25 with a grown up in charge. I asked a man what was going on. He told me that every year, the teachers brings they class out to the cemetery, so we can explain why FARANCE IS FREE. He stated we owe so much to our allies and the USA. we know that we could never repay them. So we come ever year to show respect. This will let the young people of our country know that freedom is not free. GOD BLESS THE USA.

  • Tommy N. Hay

Thank you all that have and are serving to protect our United States, and double thank you to those and the families of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. My prayers are that before the end of 2011 we have a complete overhaul of the election system so everyone receives a receipt of whom they vote for and since we don’t have any one in the Congress or Senate with the balls to submit that Obama gets impeached, then we have a true, honest, fair election that he doesn’t get re-elected and we also get rid of the smooth talking politician’s that say anything to keep their paychecks, and don’t represent the American people, and particularly the soldiers that died for us all. These people in office have no idea of where to make cuts and protect the true americans. Rather than try and cut benefits as social security and medicare and others that we have paid into, cut the useless pork money and the billions and billions of dollars being wasted they are giving to rogue nations such as Pakistan and many others. Use this money and the so called stimulus money to bail out social security and medicare that Americans paid for, rather than bailing out ruined corporations. We have people in our supposely elected positions selling out the American people, and this is a crying shame that we keep asking our soldiers to fight and die for representatives that won’t stand for American’s. Lets honor our soldiers this memorial day by making this the first day to demand the election system be overhauled in every state, and we get this radical muslim selfrighteous marxist out of our Oval Office. They are our protectors, now lets be their voice, for they don’t have one, when Obama shows up, they have no choice of whether to be at one of his gatherings, they are forced to, jus as they can’t pray and give thanks to god without asking if their are any atheist present. I ask this in the name of Sweet Jesus. God Protect our soldiers and give other americans wisdom to correct the evils going on. Amen

One of the prime requirements for a wannabe president should include MILITARY SERVICE. It would eliminate ‘certain’ scummies who find their way into the White House.
If you haven’t thought about it, think back 30 years or so (or look it up), and you’ll see that some prezzes could have been banned from having a chance to get into the White House. It says much about our nation when almost anyone can get into the White House. We’ve come a long way, and it’s been downhill for many, many years.
Kudos to all of our vets (especially WWII, Korea and Vietnam). Thank you for your service to America. You, unlike most of our elected types, didn’t put yourselves before the nation.

“We honor them because their blood purchased our freedom.” Wrong!
The only blood necessary to purchase our freedom was shed at Calvary 2000 years ago. To say that 1.5 million young Americans(most in their teens and 20s) had to die on the field of battle for our freedom is mockery of the shed blood of Christ.

    • Steve B

      To Michael R….
You sir are an ingrate. Jesus himself said “What greater sacrifice can a man make than to lay down his life for his brother”. He had a heart….do you?

        • Jana

          MichaelR,
Its funny how you quote Psalms and David was a warrior.

          2 Sam 8:5
5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

          2 Sam 10:18
18 Then the Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand horsemen of the Syrians, and struck Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.

          1 Chron 19:18-19
8 But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
19 And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
          KJV

Hmmm, God called David a man after His own heart.

          • MichaelR

Israel was on the battlefield all the time because she was apostate all the time. God granted temporary victories to Israel under rightous kings and judges. It may be argued that God has done the same for America in the past: The Revolution, the war of 1812. But we must get beyond tempoary victories and strive to fullfill the Great Commission which is to diciple and baptize the nations. We will not do this at the point of a gun. ” Not by might, not by power but by My Spirit says the Lord”. “Now the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, and PEACE!!!!

I understand the lies you posted Bert. How does the Bible have nothing to do with our country when so much of our founding is based on the Bible, God, and Christianity. Since you have to be ignorant and stray from the subject, I’ll ask you just one question. Name the 3 places in the Constitution that mentions Jesus or makes references to God? I’ll be waiting for your answer, but I’ll probably just hear crickets. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

But I bet your Dad is watching you from Heaven right now and hoping and praying soo very hard that you get your thinking straightened out so that you can see your Dad again and hug his neck, and he can say to you,”You made it Son, welcome home.” I believe your Dad is in Heaven because he is a hero. GOD and the Bible has everything to do with the USA as well as the whole world, because we have the opportunity to become knowlegable about history and aware of the consequences so we are wise not to repeat mistakes. I hope you do accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. It won;t make life easier, but you can go thru the hardships without hurting so deeply. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and quit feeling sorry for yourself. Best Wishes to you!

Freedom IS a state of mind!

      • JeffH

karolyn, Sorry, can’t buy into that one.

        freedom:
        1. ability to act freely: a state in which somebody is able to act and live as he or she chooses, without being subject to any undue restraints or restrictions
        2. release from captivity or slavery: release or rescue from being physically bound, or from being confined, enslaved, captured, or imprisoned
        3. country’s right to self-rule: a country’s right to rule itself, without interference from, or domination by, another country or power

Hope you were able to enjoy this holiday.

        • karolyn

Hey Jeff – Somebody has to be in our office even on holidays. That’s OK; I try to enjoy every day!

As far as freedom goes, we had this discussion some time ago here. I can’t remember who it was who agreed with me; he was a conservative Christian; and we don’t always agree. Haven’t seen him lately. At any rate, we both hold the view that even imprisonment cannot take one’s freedom away if one is free in his mind. I remember a movie a long time ago about a soldier who practiced meditation and was ostracized by his unit until they witnessed him able to hold up his arms horizontally for an inordinate length of time as punishment without let-up. He just removed himself from the physical. That is freedom from the bonds of the world. But then again there is physical freedom and mental freedom, two diffrent things; so we’re both right.

          • karolyn

The movie was in 1970 – Jan Mchael Vincent as a hippie in the Marines. I will always remember that scene.

          • Bert Cundle

I Can’t do what I want to do… when I am under the Threat of Punishment. ( With the Power to inforce) By our Criminal Government!

  • Buddy

It seems that we conveniently forget that there were other brave and courageous people who died in service to their governments, also. The devastation of wars doesn’t only visit us, in the USA, but is a scourge for both friend and foe alike.

Perhaps we need to consider enlarging our views to include all brave people who took (and take) up arms on behalf of their societies. Sure, there may be many people who pursue the violence of war, because of being insane, but in all probability, most participants are rational, sincere collectivists.

    • Cawmun Cents

So your rationale is to honor the enemies of our nation as well?Shall I give a shout out to Hitler, and Tojo as well? They served their societies. What moronic fantasy are you living in?I suppose we should erect a thank you statue to Bendict Arnold?Or perhaps we should honor those who stole secret documents from the State department?Yeah…lets throw them a holiday too. Please keep your worldly collectivism to yourself on a day whch we,as Americans honor our fallen troops. You have 364 other days with which to spout your vitriol.Use them to be subjective in your petty way.Just not today boy.-CC.

      • eddie47d

C.C. I think you misread his feelings and it had nothing to do with honoring evil leaders of the world. Men on both sides are forced into war to defend their governments and many do so against their will. So their bravery should be noted when appropriate. Think of our Civil War and the 600,000 who died. All were brave no matter what the outcome. There are always exceptions in every conflict such as Japanese troops on Bataan but most were doing the job of their masters.

        • independant thinker

You are wrong on this one eddie.

“Perhaps we need to consider enlarging our views to include all brave people who took (and take) up arms on behalf of their societies.”

This sentence indicates he wants us to consider honoring those whose beliefs are diametricly opposite of ours if they fought for their country. We should not honor them but should have respect for the citizens of their countries if they want to honor those who fought for their country.

          • JeffH

independant thinker, you are correct on this. It’s almost to simple.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our(United States of America) nation’s service.

        • Cawmun Cents

This day is to remember America’s fallen heroes. And those who currently serve as well.Dont cheapen it by insisting that we honor everyones troops on this day. This day is for OUR solidiers and sailors and airmen. If I were to honr any others…it would not be on this day.-CC.

Wether our military is used for nefarious purposes by our government must not be the justifying argument to detract, nor rob, the honour and expression of thanks that is due to our military men and women! You are being childish in you comment. SMSgt Z may be rather colorful but that doesn’t mean he didn’t serve or wasn’t in Nam. Maybe he is the one on medication from the war and is upset about something.Too many soldiers come back with severe problems and the suicide rate has increased from the need for repeated deployment. Not everyone can shake their war experiences and return intact. There are many unsung heros who just can’t get it together. About 85% of those who served in the Vietnam theater never saw combat and all but a few served honorably. As we once served, so they serve today.

Men and women have always started their journeys to harm’s way for diverse reasons. As they finish their tour, most shrug off their sacrifices and don’t look back for years. Some find themselves on a new road called rehabilitation and are reminded regularly of the cost of war, the price they paid. Many, those honored on this day, have to rely on the living to bring reason to their sacrifice.

But as it’s been since the days of Andrew Jackson ended, reason is supplanted by hollow speeches that are filled with empty words that are themselves fouled by the traitorous actions of the political class.

If Americans were to truly honor the fallen defenders, we would not be filling the ballot box with the names of the republican or democrat chosen. We would be throwing ourselves into the political breach, running for every office available in order to deny those political criminals any further access to the tools of change they so adeptly wield as they strip US of not only our American culture but our memory of it.

Let us be determined for Victory so that those who have died in service to our Nation will never again be spoken of by those who do not believe in US as a Nation blessed by God as they pursue their path of darkness under the third world leadership of the UN.

Rather, let US recognize our power and reclaim our birthright of self governance in accordance with God’s Word and Will.

We owe the political class nothing. They deserve far less.

It is time to restore Honor and Reason to those who died believing they were defending their Country from our enemy. It is time we defend their actions and beliefs by voting out the enemy within.

    • Jay

I feel for your hurt.I said I would never back a nother politicl war

says he only feels free in his jail cell, maybe he should stay there
for ever. It sounds like he isn`t playing with a full deck. You have to have laws and people have to obay them. You friend must not believe
in laws,so let him set it out in jail and feel all that great freedom he thinks he has. I don`t know if you have failed to grasp the American dream or not,it sounds like you did`t. It`s been there all along and the people that wanted to work for it and not depend on
the goverment prospered and have enjoyed a life of freedom, not living in a jail cell. Now we have a president that would like to take the freedoms we have and our prosperous way of life and spread the wealth. This might be the life for you, but it`s not for the majority
    of American`s.

I would like to add a note from what Mr. Livingston said…

“The media gives us access to the battlefield that we never had before, and our military’s actions are under more scrutiny now. While the American people should always scrutinize the government’s actions with regard to warfare and how and whether we should be conducting a particular war”…

…did not Obama skip Congressional approval and send our military into more harms way…& why?

Ummm…yeah…more proof of the villian & usurper. He who thinks he is above the law is going to get his leash yanked in by the American People…this I predict.

Rick Kerns, unfortunately, a majority of our politicians dishonor that oath unlike our military personel.

Are you familiar with The Oath Keepers, a non-partisan association of currently serving military, reserves, National Guard, veterans, Peace Officers, and Fire Fighters who will fulfill the Oath they swore, with the support of like minded citizens who take an Oath to stand with them, to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God.

100% agree Jeff H and Brother Patriot! Keep up the good fight, fellow patriots! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

            Totally agree here!!

Hey Kerns: My nephew who just recently finished a tour as a Recruiting Officer for the USAF had told me a very disturbing piece of information a couple of years back that really shocked me. He said that the oath the new recruits were required to swear was allegance to the Commander In Chief and the Constitution was omitted. This is what Hitler did in Germany. This was by my understanding done by executive order of GDUBUYA, when the “Patriot Scam” was enacted. When was the last time you re-upped? r.p. ABF1 USN

Sorry dude, but 2 years ago Obama bin Laden was in office. If you’re the same r.p. that was on the thread about Palin, then your not in the navy nor are you a veteran. Don’t you dare disgrace this country like that! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

A day to remeber our war heroes.
Here are four that come to mind:

    1. Marine Corps General Smedley Butler — who twice won the Congressional Medal of Honor, and wrote one of the best anti-war books: War Is a Racket;

    2. Army Warrant Officer Hugh Tompson, a helicopter pilot who came upon the ongoing My Lai massacre in Vietnam. He ordered his gunnery crew to open fire on any American soldiers who continued the killing of Vietnamese civilians, thus ending the slaughter;

    3. Army Private Bradley Manning who, it is alleged, came into possession of “classified” information (i.e., information the government didn’t want the American public to know about) and, allegedly, turned this information over to Julian Assange for distribution on “WikiLeaks.” Manning will not be available for any public recognition of his heroism, as he is reportedly being held, incommunicado, in an Army prison, guarded by other military men for whom the word “hero” would not be applicable.

    4. World War II Navy hero John F. Kennedy who in later years stated:

“War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.”

i41;When you left that gathering of family and friends that weren’t as well versed in the whole political scheme of things.I wonder if they really realized your true genius with your comments on politics and the whole nature of your surrounding world?

    • libertytrain

Jopa, felt a need to exercise that superiority attitude you’re feeling?

      • http://naver samurai

He’s actually quite inferior! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

        • eddie47d

Why are you patronizing i41′s vile comments and constant mudslinging. He is the one with the false superiority or a daily hangover.

          • http://naver samurai

Sorry Ed, but I was talking about jopa. Enough said! FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!

It all gets a little confusing some times but any one killed while defending our country or helping people any where that need help should be honered for giving their life.I am not sure north korea, vietnam or irac was nessary but it happened and is in the past. This atact on 911 by these bunch of muslum dogs shows no respect for the help that the u.s. gave afgav. when russia invaded their country. It may have been easier to deal with russia than these rabbid idiots. The bible says that there will be wars and rumors of wars for ever and i think as long as there are people that will be correct. Any body that falls in defence of their self, family, friends and country should be honered.

Deaths throughout U.S. history from Independence Day to Iraqi Freedom

Here is a listing of the estimates or totals thus far of U.S. casualties in the various conflicts that have been a part of our country’s history provided by the U.S. Army Military History Institute. The statistics reflect only reported war deaths and exclude those wounded and/or missing. “The Civil War still maintains the highest American casualty total of any conflict. Interesting to note the staggering number of losses in World War Two when compared to that of World War One – the former being the so-called ‘War to End All Wars.’ Then there’s the ‘Forgotten War’ in Korea – this nickname despite the near-37,000 reported casualties in the conflict.

“In its first 100 years of existence, more than 683,000 Americans lost their lives, with the Civil War accounting for 623,026 of that total (91.2%). Comparatively, in the next 100 years, a further 626,000 Americans died through two World Wars and several more localized conflicts (with World War Two representing 65% of that total). Using this comparison, the Civil War might very well be the most important war that America has ever fought.”

    Major Conflicts and Totals

    War of Independence (1775-1783) 25,000
    War of 1812 (1812-1815) 20,000
    Mexican-American War (1846-1848) 13,283
    Civil War (1861-1865) 623,026
    World War One (1917-1918) 116,708
    World War Two (1941-1945) 407,316
    Korean War (1950-1953) 36,914
    Vietnam War (1964-1973) 58,169
    Afghanistan (2002-2010) 1,084 and counting…
    Iraq (2003-2010) 4,400 and counting…

    “OUR HIGHEST AND BEST GOOD”
    May 20, 2011

Today is Memorial Day. Memorial of what? That we as a species send our youngest and bravest out to do battle, for what? Not just the USA, but all countries of the world. It takes two (sides or individuals) to fight. The men and women of both sides of the fight, for what they aren’t sure, have wives/husbands, mothers, children, and a country. Both sides are willing to give up the most precious commodity they have…their lives! To fight a war they didn’t ask for and they know nothing about. Oh yes they were told they were fighting for their country, but why? They were told to hate the ones on the other side, but why? Yes we Memorialize those that went, and either came back in a box or destroyed either mentally, physically or spiritually. We Memorialize the fact that they stood were you or I would not stand. They gave all they had to give while we sat here and mis-used what they stood for, Our Highest and Best Good.”

“Our highest and best good”, what is that? Is it using this most beautiful fruitful of all planets to destruction?

We have grown as a species like petulant children. We have mis-used, over used and abused this planet we live on and then we wonder why we are hearing all of the talk about dooms day. WE are building our own dooms day. This ol’ planet we call earth is going to shake her shoulders and we will be gone. Just like that in a blink of any eye.

We have polluted her air, water and earth. We have become like a growing cancer on her skin. And even though we see this happening we sit back and continue to use all of the resources she so generously gave. Have we driven our cars less?, Used less oil? Looked for alternatives to plastics? Stopped throwing our trash in the streets, and road ways not to mention the oceans, lakes, rivers and streams?

Some of you reading this may see nothing wrong with the way we live. Big, BIG T.V.’S, our cell phones, computers and all the rest. We would kinda like the planet cleaned up but we will “LET GEORGE” do it. If you lived through the 50’s you will know what I mean. This has no reference to the Bush’s. It means that we depend on someone else to do the job. We don’t care who, just as long as they talk a good game.

Some of you reading this have dropped out of trying to wake up your fellow man due to FEAR. You have let big brother intimidate you into being quite and hiding your head in the sand thinking you will ride out the trouble unnoticed. YOU WON’T. When you have fear you are saying you are a victim. And a victim consciousness is being a slave to the very thing you say you hate. There is no sand deep enough to hide your head in believe me.

When some of you read this you will think,” gee that individual is weird.” But know this; you attract to you what is in your Heart/Mind. If you live in fear because of the thought/s for what you believe, then you believe you are a victim. If you are a victim then you attract to you what you have feared. And the circle goes round. On the other hand, if you believe in THE HIGHEST AND BEST GOOD for all species and the earth itself then that is what you will attract to you.

That would be THE HIGHEST AND BEST GOOD we could do in remembrance of our military past and present this MEMORIAL DAY.

Thank you to all who and are serving.
