HHS releases guidelines requiring insurance companies provide free birth control, etc.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released new guidelines today, requiring that insurance companies ensure women are provided preventive health services at no additional cost.

“Developed by the independent Institute of Medicine, the new guidelines require new health insurance plans to cover women’s preventive services such as well-woman visits, breastfeeding support, domestic violence screening, and contraception without charging a co-payment, co-insurance or a deductible,” read an HHS press release.

“The Affordable Care Act helps stop health problems before they start,” said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. “These historic guidelines are based on science and existing literature and will help ensure women get the preventive health benefits they need.”

According to an article on CNN.com, many pro-life groups are displeased with the guidelines, claiming they may undermine individual religious rights. They fear that pro-life employers may be required to provide these services against their conscience, through mandated health insurance coverage from the Affordable Care Act.

However, “[t]he Obama administration released an amendment to the prevention regulation that allows religious institutions offering health insurance to their employees the choice of whether or not to cover contraception services,” the article read.

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, chairman of Committee on Pro-Life Activities with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, told the news site that “pregnancy is not a disease, and fertility is not a pathological condition to be suppressed by any means technically possible.”

Uncle Scam is at it again. Now, we’re supposed to believe that America’s health insurance companies are bending over and smiling to make the old fart happy. BS! THAT would be a prime example of the tail wagging the frickin’ dog.
The old dog that’s running the junkyard now will not endure any attempts to interfere with the healthcare-killing scam that’s about to go into effect. Start the timer, please.
It won’t be long now before certain people will wake up and realize that Bummer’s healthcare scam has so many flaws in it that it TRULY isn’t what they thought was in the damned thing. Even among the so-called ‘elites,’ some of them have to be victims of Caesar’s divide and conquer. ‘Twas ever thus.

I’m OK with supporting most birth control options for men and women. What I’m against is abortion …

But according to the Supreme Court a woman has the right to murder her baby while it is still in her womb. Her body, her choice. It’s a matter of “privacy” or “murdering privately” ….

Doesn’t make sense sometimes, this brave new world of socialized medical care. Guess I need some more college…

I’m paying for the “free” birth control through higher premiums. I am NOT for this. If you can’t afford ‘em, don’t have ‘em. And, if you are irresponsible enough to have ‘em, I shouldn’t be forced at gunpoint to pay for ‘em. It’s called personal responsibility.

      • Karolyn

So what’s your answer then, Jeep? There will always be people who are ignorant and have more kids than they can afford (or who shouldn’t have ANY kids). At least if they are educated to use birth control, we won’t have to pay for their kids! You just can’t have your cake and eat it too!

There IS a way to bypass bureaucrats, progressives and other mental defectives. It’s called sterilization. That way, if you don’t want kids, you WON’T be able to have any, and you won’t waste anyone’s time talking about the “wonderful, utopian benefits given to us by the World Teachers at Planned Parenthood.”
If there was ever a bunch of people who need to step up and get sterilized, it’s the mental giants at Planned Parenthood. Any group that follows the ideas of Margaret Sanger and Hitler is a group that shouldn’t exist.
The only difference between PP and the posers at aclu (neither group serves any purpose in America) is in the fact that one group is domniated by inferior, people-hating theoreticians, and the other group is infested with shysters who should be disbarred and run out of the country.
          Any other questions?

          • Karolyn

Once again, sterilization sure sounds like communism to me!
Why not just exterminate eveybody who doesn’t agree with you and does things you don’t like!

I have mixed emotions about this. First of all, I do not believe in abortion. But with this birth control issue—perhaps there will be less unwanted children. The U.S. has a lot of neglected and hungry kids and kids suffer for what their parents do or don’t do. I think I have to go along with this issue. There are so many times that I think my dogs have a much better life than a lot of kids.

    • Karolyn

Oh, absolutely, Claire. Where I live, I see it on a daily basis. I have been pondering the question and discussing it with people: “Why do these women keep having babies?” An answer I very often get is that they know how to work the system. However, given the fact that there is a limit in SC as to how many children will be funded (other than Food Stamps), what else might influence them to have more? I think that many of them get pregnant thinking that maybe another kid will help them to keep THIS guy!

The headline is just what conservatives love to harp on others about. The birth control (and other services) is not “free”, it is payed for in our large premiums. The insurance companies are making plenty enough to toss us this little bone.

    • Jeep

Doc, what you deliberately miss is the point. Why should I (through higher premiums forced upon by govt regulation) be forced to pay for birth control to anyone? If I “need” birth control, should I not provide it for myself? It is not tossing me a bone to force higher premiums so that promiscuous teens can have care free sex. Do you have no sense of personal responsiblity?

      • Karolyn

There’s no way around it. You’re gonna pay one way or another. Which way is cheapest? You can’t force responsibility on anybody.

  • Karolyn

According to some conservatives, birth control is the end of our civilization! Talk about ridiculousness! The Catholic church is STILL on the bandwagon about birth control. My mother and father had to practice the “rhythm method” as Catholics.
