Helicopter Ben Strikes Again

Helicopter Ben Strikes Again
PHOTOS.COM

I did a double take when I saw the story on CNN.com. For a moment, I thought I had clicked on the Personal Liberty website instead — something I do with great frequency. Here’s what the subhead read:

“Central banks are printing money like crazy. And inflation is gold’s best friend.”

Not much to disagree with, is there? Knowing about CNN’s liberal bias, you won’t be surprised to learn that the actual headline wasn’t nearly as kind to those of us who skew slightly to the right. It read: “Not just for lunatics.”

So while you and I (and our fellow gold bugs) might be crazy as loons, our ranks are growing every day. Welcome, former middle-of-the-roaders!

If you’re not concerned about what the money masters in Washington are doing to the U.S. dollar, you should be. It has been losing value virtually every day since the Federal Reserve was founded nearly 100 years ago. The reason why is as simple as Economics 101: When you produce more of something, the price, or value, of each individual unit goes down.

The Fed has been producing an awful lot of dollars in recent years. And Ben Bernanke, its chairman, just announced that the flood of fiat currency is about to get a whole lot worse.

At the conclusion of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting two weeks ago, the group issued an announcement that included the following:

“To support continued progress toward maximum employment and price stability, the Committee expects that a highly accommodative stance of monetary policy will remain appropriate for a considerable time after the economic recovery strengthens.”

In that Sept. 13 announcement, the committee made it clear what it meant by “highly accommodative.” It would launch a third round of quantitative easing, purchasing $40 billion worth of mortgage-backed securities every month for an indefinite period. This will be in addition to the $45 billion in Treasury bonds it is already committed to buying through Operation Twist.

How long will it last? Until “Helicopter Ben” and his buddies on the committee decide it’s no longer necessary. That could be a very long time, my friends. No wonder some pundits are referring to this third round of “quantitative easing” (Fed speak for “massive money creation”) not as QE3, but as QE Infinity.

Basically, the Fed has guaranteed that the money spigot will pour out half a trillion dollars more a year. In addition, the Fed also said that it would keep interest rates at “exceptionally low levels” by maintaining a target range for bank borrowing (the federal funds rate) of 0 to .25 percent. And it would do so, the statement said, “at least through mid-2015.”

Since Wall Street loves every short-term stimulus it sees, no matter the long-term effects on the economy, it came as no surprise the Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor’s 500 index soared to their highest levels in five years after the Fed announcement. Gold and silver also rose, along with other traditional inflation hedges, such as real estate and other commodities. Not surprisingly, the U.S. dollar dropped in value.

The Rest Of The World Jumps On The Bandwagon

But it isn’t just our own central bank that has promised more stimulus. Mario Draghi, the president of the European Central Bank, announced that the ECB would buy “unlimited” amounts of European sovereign debt, in an effort to keep stimulate the economies of Europe.

This follows a ruling by the German high court that the European Stability Mechanism does not violate the country’s constitution. The court did declare, however, that the German parliament must approve any further increases to the ESM. Currently, German is liable for about 27 percent of the 700 billion euro total, or 190 billion euros.

Last week, Japan joined the party. The Bank of Japan announced on Sept. 19 that it would expand its own stimulus program. It plans to increase the amount of debt it purchases from 70 trillion yen to about 80 trillion yen, a difference of $126 billion. It will continue its purchases throughout 2013. So Japan is also in the trillion-dollar stimulus club.

At the same time it announced its new stimulus program, the Bank of Japan also did away with its previous minimum bids for Japanese government bonds. Previously, the floor had been set at 0.1%. Under the new rules, the yield on Japanese bonds can go below zero. In other words, buyers at the end of the loan period could receive less money than they invested, making a negative return on their investment.

What’s an investor to do?

Porter Stansberry, one of my favorite analysts, warned that “the Bernanke Asset Bubble is now in full force.” Indeed, it is. In fact, there seems to be a globally coordinated plan among the world’s central bankers to “stimulate” their respective economies.

You and I may believe that the best way to do this is for government to get the heck out of the way. Let the free enterprise system do what it does so well: create new jobs and even whole new industries. Turn millions of people from tax recipients to taxpayers. And then see how a steadily improving economy can mean more prosperity for almost everyone. And, yes, even more income (taxes) for Uncle Sam.

Of course, a free and unfettered economy is the last thing the bureaucrats and money manipulators in Washington want us to have. No, their solution will continue to be the creation of a massive amount of new money and credit.

The inevitable effect will be a decline in the purchasing power of the dollar — and the euro and the yen, too. There will also be an increase in the prices of all sorts of assets, including stocks, housing and commodities.

But the biggest winner of all is likely to be gold — just as it has been for the past decade (for the past two millennia, in fact). Oh, and don’t forget its less-expensive sister, silver.

Both precious metals have come off of their all-time highs. And it’s possible they could even correct a bit further in the next few weeks.

But long term, there has never been a better way to protect the purchasing power of your savings than to exchange paper currencies for things of real and enduring value. And nothing does that job better than gold and silver.

Buy some today and some more tomorrow. When the tide of new money begins hitting, you’ll be very glad you did.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

I’m sorry Chip, but I can’t eat gold.
The rumor is that Private money (billions) are just waiting to re-enter the economy IF government would just get out of the way. Unfortunately, the American people have been sold that load for the last 30 years. So, where is the money supposed to come from?
Congress COULD have approved Billions more of economic stimulus, but the Republicans BLOCKED almost all of it – except for their “legitimate” pork. And why?
Because it contained “strings.” You know what these “strings” were? The fact that many of the “shovel ready” projects were going to be done by UNION LABOR. So, Congress decided to BLOCK those dollars that could of been earned and spent by honest, hard working, Americans.
Obama wasn’t going to give a bunch of federal dollars to unqualified contractors just so it could come back as contributions to his enemy – The Republican Party.

      What’s an investor to do?

Make sure you have 2 years food for everyone in your family then buy all the gold and silver you can get — these kind of actions by government preciptate wars, big or small.

Looks like a whooper of a war forming in the middle east, Isreal will never let the Iranian fanatic maniacs get nukes.

Time has proven. It’s not IF Iran gets nukes, it’s WHEN.
According to many here, it would seem a GOOD thing. Cause then they could destroy the people who killed JESUS. And those people own all the BANKS.
You know, I thought that if I gave you guys some alternative views, you might start thinking after a while. But, now, I really know what “Christian Conservative” really means – INSANITY.

      • DaveH

Which country has the second highest number of nukes in the world (and probably the highest number that will actually work)?
Which country has actually used nukes against another country?
Which country has military bases around the world meddling in other countries’ affairs and killing innocents?

Ask yourself this question, komrade kb, if you weren’t in a union would you consider yourself worthless?

      • KG

If i were NOT in aunion, then i would be as worthless as any other worker. But since I’m part of an oganization that fights for my dignity and rights, and spends untold millions of dollars to train and educate, I AM WORTH SOMETHING. That’s the difference between union workers and non-union workers. Those of you who wish to spread dissention, or, more like “sedition”, by saying UNIONS ARE CORRUPT, i guess Goldman Sachs is an honest business. And Enron was an example of a good business model. Oh, and the BP subcontractor who killed 11 workers by “cremating” them just to save some time are an example of good employee/employer relations? (BTW That “subcontractor was Haliburton).

What are you guys going to do once you do get rid of the unions? Share your prosperity with everyone? OFCOURSE NOT. Thanks to Ayn Rand, the crazy Russian lady who thought rich people could be selfish because they were rich.

This is classic. A Unionist actually fesses up to what he thinks about the rest of you.
KG says — “If i were NOT in aunion, then i would be as worthless as any other worker”.

Thank you for your honesty, KG. Now get back to your thuggery.

      • DaveH

KG says — “Power to the People”.
Hardly. More like Power to the minority of people who want to live off the backs of the rest of us.

You must have low self esteem KG, that explains a lot.

      • vicki

KG demonstrates why English is a difficult language by writing:
“If i were NOT in aunion, then i would be as worthless as any other worker. ”

This statement is essentially true if a bit misleading. KG is worth as much or little as he is because of his work not his union membership. He even made the point that union membership does not change his worth by saying that he is worth as much (or little) as “any other worker” which would include all those workers of the union of which he is currently a member.

Now he might get PAID more than he is worth because of union thuggery, but his worth remains the same.

      • TexasRide

KG, the unions are nothing but organizations that survive by extortion! They not only extort money from their employers, they bankrupt private business and even worse they extort money from taxpayers! The money they demand from union members create a slush fund for the democrats aka communists!

Abolish Unions, they are anti-American. They take from one group and give it to another group which is also unconstitutional. Union members are nothing less than glorified “WELFARE RECIPIENTS!”

      • Vicki

        TexasRide says:
“Abolish Unions, they are anti-American. They take from one group and give it to another group which is also unconstitutional.”

Careful there TR. The liberal progressive will come back and say that is what businesses do all the time. You have to point out that it is the FORCED taking from one group and giving to another. Just point out all the laws that force people to be in a union to work. Thus you see not only do we have crony capitalists but crony unionists too.

I know that “taking” implies force but it helps to be specific.

    • U.S.CAV

Read the “CONSTITUTION” ONLY GOLD & SILVER ARE REAL MONEY—Ignore this at your own risk. I can take my metals to any country and feed myself and my family. Gold & Silver has been money for over 6,000 years. They real enemy to freedom is your Soviet Communist mind set. I suppose you support the muslum botherhood as well.

      • DaveH

The real enemy to Free is Government Leaders and their Crony Capitalists who are taking advantage of the rest of us.
Note that Crony Capitalists are not really Capitalists at all. Rather than prospering by pleasing their consumers, they prosper by paying off Politicians (campaign donations and other bribes) and then receiving various forms of protection (favorable regulations, subsidies, price controls, tariffs, quotas, etc.) from their Crony Politicians.
Pick up a copy of this book to see some of the methods by which Crony Capitalists in both major Political Parties work hand-in-hand with their Crony Politicians to feather their nests at the expense of the rest of us:

      • Kate8

DaveH – Did you catch the story of the “Islamists” hacking into the big banks? Right. More like Al CIAda.

occupycorporatism.com. It seems that the banksters are planning to steal our money and make a run for it, leaving us high and dry. First, they got the courts to rule that they can take our money and use it to bail themselves out, or whatever…with no responsibility to repay the account holders. Once deposted, it’s theirs to do with as they please…

They won’t do a bank run now, because we are expecting it. Instead, they will be “hacked” by Arabs, or Iranians, or whoever. Our money will all be gone, and it won’t be their fault. No FDIC to cover the losses, either. And, we’ll have another reason to go to war. Meanwhile, we’ll all be broke, and will still owe the banks for our mortgages and whatnot, with no money to pay. They get to come and take all of the real estate, which is what they really want…

We must realize who is doing what, and not fall into this trap. They are after a “reorganizing” into a world system and a new currency. In this system, THEY own everything and we exist at their pleasure. They plan to have us starving, homeless and begging for them to come and make things better.

When they are perpetrating these false flags, we need to pay attention to what the other hand is doing. We must not allow ourseves to be played any longer. These people must go, one way or another, before they get to us first.

      • DaveH

This is not new, Kate. Since the beginning of our country, certain banks would fraudulently issue more “warehouse” receipts (paper money) than they had Gold to back it up. When they overdid it and got caught by people demanding gold for their receipts, the Banks got cover from Government so they didn’t have to honor the receipts. But their borrowers were still obligated to pay back their loans to the banks. So they had their cake and ate it too.
If only the majority of people would become educated about those matters.
This book by one of the greatest thinkers of our time reveals those facts and many more about the Banking System in our country’s early history:

Sorry KG, but you (Liberal Progressives) are the whiney, self-centered people, hate-filled, who want to take unfair advantage of others by using Big Government to Force your way on the rest of us. Let us institute a voluntary system — Free Markets — where property ownership is strictly observed and people must freely contract to trade their money with others (including Government) and see just how long the morally-bereft Progressives last.

Btw according to the story it was the government of the time that put Jesus upon the Cross. • JJM123

vicki – supposedly Income Tax on wages is a voluntary tax. Although I have never volunteered to be taxed or volunteered to have my wages reduced… Do you volunteer to feed the scheme or do you risk fines, penalties, property, freedom &/or huge court costs to oppose it???

It won’t be long until the educated, productive Americans that pay all your bills refuse to let you continue to confiscate everything we work to have for our own families. Your failed ideology never works.

In the end, people reject you and yours even if they have to totally wipe out what your ilk have created. The innovative and intelligent can do it all over again. Try starting over with your useless ones when many of these useless can’t even read or write.. let alone perform surgery or read a blueprint.

Why in the world would you people get so offended by the words of one KG?

Sit back and pity his evil intent, understand its ignorance, forgive it’s hatred for America and its racism of all good, and never give a reply to feed its intent to deceive.

It is legion and it grows in number by the thousands every day.

Satan can only survive if you feed it’s never ending lust for hatred.

KG is just one pawn out of millions that now instigates for the dark one in the White House.

If you ignore it on this site it will go away, if we the people ignore the evil in the White House it will infest the entire nation and world.

Evil can only exist if good men do nothing to fight it.

      • Vicki

        Matrix says:

        and

“Evil can only exist if good men do nothing to fight it.”

Which is exactly why we DO reply. Not to the deceiver but to counter the deception and help others to avoid being deceived. Also to help those who have been deceived to break from the deception.

    • DaveH

KG says — “You know what these “strings” were? The fact that many of the “shovel ready” projects were going to be done by UNION LABOR. So, Congress decided to BLOCK those dollars that could of been earned and spent by honest, hard working, Americans”.
      Union Labor…..honest, hard working Americans?
What is honest about staging a mass walkout, threatening owners with violence, intimidating the potential replacement workers (who would be happy to earn that which the Unionists are spurning), and intimidating customers of the company, all in order to coerce the Employers to pay more for the Unionists’ labor than the Market Price?
Hard working Americans? That’s a laugh. Union Protection always leads to less productivity not more.
And then when Unionists do get their higher wages, the company must get that money from somewhere. So if they can’t raise their product prices they must either lay off workers or lower the pay of the remaining workers or go out of business or move their company out of the US to survive. No company owners are in business to lose money. So the rest of us pay the price for the Unionists’ above-market wages.
You gotta love these self-centered Liberal Progressives. NOT.

      • KG

Oh and business people are NOT SELFISH? The sad fact is that the rich and powerfull have all the money. And they are NOT going to ‘Give’ it away. Many of these people think that people who make minimum wage are ‘prosperous’. Maybe in rural Mississippi. But the rest of us live in places that require a certain income just to survive.
When Regan fired the air traffic controllers, there should of been a general strike in America. But, slowly since then, we have seen the American dream turn into a nightmare. Capitol cannot exist it labor didn’t exist first. We helped you, we deserve a share of that – weither you like it or not.

      • DaveH

KG says — “Oh and business people are NOT SELFISH?”.
It’s their money, KG, unless you earn it voluntarily from them or you take it Forcefully from them. The latter makes you a thief, KG.

      • DaveH

KG says — “But, slowly since then, we have seen the American dream turn into a nightmare. Capitol cannot exist it labor didn’t exist first. We helped you, we deserve a share of that – weither you like it or not”.
It has turned into a nightmare, KG, because people like you have created those conditions.
“we deserve a share of that”? Why? Didn’t you negotiate and acceptable salary when the company owners graciously gave you a chance to earn a living? Shouldn’t you have been thankful for that opportunity? Instead you turned on them and took what you wanted through Force or Coercion by joining a Union.
“We helped you”? How in the world do you think causing me to pay higher product prices or having fewer jobs to choose from is helping me?
You are just a self-centered taker, KG.

      • KG

Am I to genuflect to a rich person just to survive? What, you guys want to be worshiped? F that. I’ll keep my dignity.

      • DaveH

KG says — “Am I to genuflect to a rich person just to survive? What, you guys want to be worshiped? F that. I’ll keep my dignity”.
You call that dignity, KG? Forcing your way on others? I call it Aggression and Theft. If you had any real dignity, KG, you wouldn’t even think of such a thing.
But thank you so much for revealing to the readers what Liberal Progressives are really made of.

      • vicki

        KG says:
“The sad fact is that the rich and powerfull have all the money.”

They can’t possibly have all the money. I see people that are not rich or powerfull buying stuff all the time.

KG: “And they are NOT going to ‘Give’ it away.”

And why should they? Cause you whine that it isn’t fair that they have wealth that they EARNED?

KG: “…..the rest of us live in places that require a certain income just to survive.”

Which you obviously get cause you ARE surviving there. You could of course MOVE if you don’t like it.

KG: “Capitol cannot exist it labor didn’t exist first. We helped you, we deserve a share of that – weither you like it or not.”

When you helped this improperly specified “us” did you do it out of the kindness of your heart or did you get paid?

      • KG

All business should only charge what it actually cost them to do or sell whatever they do. Then, out of the goodness of my heart, I’ll give you extra just for the privilege of buying from you.

        Yea…..right.

So, when a business overcharges someone and underpays their workers thats NOT stealing?

      • DaveH

KG says — “So, when a business overcharges someone and underpays their workers thats NOT stealing?”.
How can they do that, KG, without your voluntary acceptance? If you don’t like the price of their product, then don’t buy it. If you don’t like the wages they offer, then don’t work there. Businesses can’t yet force you to buy their products or work for them. But give you Liberal Progressives enough time and it will probably come to that.
If you think it’s easy, KG, then pool your money with your fellow Liberal Progressives and start your own business. Show us how it’s done, instead of haranguing us with your jealousy.

      • Vicki

        KG says:
“All business should only charge what it actually cost them to do or sell whatever they do.”

Why would they do this? Business is there to create wealth for the business owner.

KG: “Then, out of the goodness of my heart, I’ll give you extra just for the privilege of buying from you.”

Me? I thought we were talking about Business. Could you please stay at least close to the topic.

KG: “So, when a business overcharges someone and underpays their workers thats NOT stealing?”

Do you truly not know the meaning of “stealing”? Well it is kinda easy to get confused with all the weird advertizements that mis-use words. One that comes to mind that I have heard recently talks about mortgage interest as though the lender is “stealing” your money.

Anyway the meaning of stealing comes from the word steal which means
        http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/steal

and looking thru there we find that you may be able to use steal as you did.
        Transitive verb
3a : to seize, gain, or win by trickery, skill, or daring.

The trickery one is tricky but the skill or daring ones could be used (to mislead) in a sentence as you did. But your use of “overcharge” and “underpay” seems to indicate by context a meaning more like:
        Transitive verb
1a : to take or appropriate without right or leave and with intent to keep or make use of wrongfully.
b : to take away by force or unjust means.
c : to take surreptitiously or without permission.

So we are left to presume you mean the latter. Thus the answer is clearly NO it is not stealing. First a business can not possibly overcharge someone since you mean business as a whole and not a cashier mis entering the price of some item. This is because, unlike ObamaTax the business does not force you to pay the price. If you think the business is overcharging you walk away and buy from a competitor. To bad we don’t have that choice with ObamaTax.

Business can not possibly underpay for much the same reason. Unlike ObamaTax which enslaves all of us, doctors and patients alike, a business can not force you to work. If you do not like the pay you don’t accept the job.

If you don’t like “obamatax”, then why don’t YOU leave? I know I took a certain responsibility when I realized I’m a citizen of this society. Was it by choice? I guess it was sorta like “American by birth, Southern by the Grace of God.” I could go where “austrian” economics is the reality (Mexico) or I could choose to be a part of our society. Didn’t you take “civics” in high school?

America – some say “love it, or leave it.” Well, I love America. It’s the only place where someone can sit in their Air-conditioned house and worry about the end of the world.

I spent years trying to wake people up to the reality of what Progressives really are. All they heard from Progressives was wonderful promises about how things could be if we only followed their Pied Pipers. Most people don’t do enough research or know how to read between the lines to discover who people really are, so my efforts mostly fell on deaf ears.
But then along came Bob Livingston, with this great blog where Progressives, especially the Liberal Progressives, were allowed to speak anonymously and reveal who they truly are.
I couldn’t ask for more. Now the average readers can see for themselves the character of the Progressives who want to use Government as their proxy agents to Force their way on the rest of us, and it isn’t a pretty picture.

      • KG

Are you going to judge “progressives” by their character?

There was this one guy who was a war hero, vegitarian, loved animals and kissing babies and spurned sexual relations for the good of his country?

But then I heard of another guy who was a womaniser, smoked like a broken stove, ate whatever he wanted and was crippled?

        Which one would you choose?

You guys had YOUR crook for 8 years, my crook deserves another 4.

      • DaveH

It’s too bad you don’t do more reading and thinking, KG, because then you might know that there are Progressives (those who think Big Government is the answer) in both major Political Parties.
And yes, I judge them by their character, no matter what the political orientation.
Know that the Progressive Leaders are feathering their own nests. The Progressive Followers are just ignorant of reality.

      • KG

What reality am I ignorant of? I have bills to pay and i have to take a crap everyday just like the rest of you. I just believe that the Constitution says what its supposed to say, not what i want it to say. It starts by saying “We, the People.” So, WHO IS THE GOVERNMENT? WE ARE!

Just because I believe I actually have responsibility to my fellow citizen, somehow that makes me a communist. And because I demand a fair wage for my labor, I’m called a “thief.” And because I feel that people have the right to collectively bargain for wages and benefits that make me a “socialist.”

I am an American. And I believe that together we are stronger than apart. The Conservatives want to make everyone “rugged individualists.” But, unfortunately, not everyone is capable of that. Do you have any relatives who are crippled? My Grandmother had a stroke when she was 40 years old. That was in 1970. She just passed away last summer. She only worked about 5 years her whole life. Thank God for Social Security and Medicare. She would have had to be put to sleep if Paul Ryan has his way.

I love America. I want to see America succeed. But I do not want that success to be at the cost of our human dignity.

        • Frank Kahn

For one thing you are ignorant of the fact that unions dont bargain for FAIR wages, they demand wages that are above what the fair capitalistic economy will support. And, that is assuming that capitalism would be able to exist at all with union interference. So many on both sides of the debate over how unions should work and how they do work have different opinions based on different personal experiences.

I worked for a union shop in the 70′s, one year I was told to leave work because we were on strike. I leaned that we were on strike for a 10% pay raise (what I was told). I was making $5.00 an hour at the time and the strike lasted almost 2 months. Yea, we won, or did we? I lost $200 a week for almost 8 weeks totaling about $1600 dollars for a 50c raise. That took 3200 hours or 400 days to pay off my lost wages. The union was considerate though, we did not have to pay dues during the strike and we got $30 dollars a month for food. I dont even have to go into what impact it had on the local economy with about 25% of the local workers not having money to spend like normal for 2 months.

And yes, that place had the best wages in the area, but yes you were required to be in the union to get the job. Now by some definitions that is not a capitalistic situation it is socialism. It is socialism because a small group (the union leaders) has control of the work force and by it the production of the company. The small group also controls the amount of money being paid to the workers.

Now you might mistakenly call that bargaining but it is not, it is forcing compliance with a demand through a form of extortion. You could only marginally call it bargaining if they used the threat of a strike if they did not get the raise.

Did I need the raise, NO, I was making extremely good money for that particular time in our history. Did I perform my job better because of the raise, NO, kept doing it the same as always. Did I do something to make my services more valuable, NO.

It is because I did nothing to improve the profits of the company that demanding a raise was wrong. In true capitalism, if the company is not paying its workers a sufficient wage they will have trouble finding and keeping qualified workers. This pushes the wages up through a natural progression of the needs of the company.

I also object to your using the word right. Who gave you the RIGHT to collectively bargain? And where will you find the term collective in relation to a form of government or economic ideology? The collective might be a term used in communism or socialism but it is never used in capitalist theory.

You used the term decent wage? What is a decent wage, and who determines that? Even using the ambiguous term reasonable wage is not valid for the same reason, what is it and who determines it? In capitalism only the market can determine what an acceptable wage is because it is a wage that satisfies all concerned. So NO UNIONS ALLOWED. From my perspective, unions are a lot like little kids that throw a tantrum if they dont get what they want. “mommy I want a new bicycle” “no, we cant afford it” “if you dont give it to me I’ll hold my breath till I die” “okay we will borrow some money and get you what you want”. That does not work for a families economy any better than it does for a business economy.

      • KG

I am not ignorant of the fact that unions don’t bargain for fair wages. Unions bargain for the best you can get. Just like someone who “negotiates” a salary when they get hired. Or someone who looks for a better paying job. You shoot for the stars, and then settle for something a little less. Although it amazes me when I see what Baseball Players get. And their owners are STILL very profitable. I can imagine how much money the owners were making when players were only getting about 10 -20k a year.

I worked for a company for 11 years, and every job we ever did we “lost” money. So, the next job we had to work extra hard to make up the loss. However, the owner of the company had a farmhouse in Martha’s Vinyard. And, for some reason, all the management who were issued company trucks got a new truck every two years. It was only latter that I learned we never “lost” money, we didn’t make as much as anticipated. So, our company always showed a loss. That is until negotiations. Then they would demand stupid stuff like we purchase our own batteries for our battery drills. So we would demand stuff like “coverd picknik tables shall be furnished on all jobs.” It’s a game they play. But, eventually, they would blink and offer something like a 1% raise. Even though, adjusted for inflation, most Union construction workers are still making LESS than we were in the 70′s.

I’m fortunate enough to have worked without having to go on strike. However, there were times when we had to do a “job action.” On one job, the general contractor hired some non union guys to install flooring. And this was on a State funded Prevailing wage job. So, the local labor committee put up pickets and NOBODY crossed the picket line. Next day, we had Union floor guys. And for some reason, that job was still finished on time and under budget.

Mike Moore is right when he said America is awash in cash. It’s just in the hands of the few. Are Unions extortionists? Well, we do reserve the right to withhold our labor if we are in dis agreement about something. Because that’s the only power I have as a working person. The truth is, common working people in America are looked down upon. Unions are the only chance many people at the bottom have of a good paying job with benefits. And thats why Unions are STILL needed. Nobody is going to “give” you anything. You have to fight for it.

The controversy now are the Public Sector Unions. Well, if you are a “conservative” who voted for Regan, you only have yourself to blame. When Regan started this “slow slide” down, it was started by the elimination of our Manufacturing base. And that base was highly unionized. However, in the search for “profits”, many companies decided to leave America for cheaper workers. Well, the good paying ‘private’ sector jobs kinda dissapeared. It used to be that you took a paycut to work in the public sector. But now, thanks to unionization, those public sector jobs are very attractive. So, all of you “conservatives” who are upset about the public sector unions only have YOURSELVES to blame.

        • Frank Kahn

One statement by you supports my contentions about unions destroying our economy. You brag about how good they are to the economy and then blame Reagan for losing all our manufacturing jobs to cheaper labor overseas? Well if the unions hadn’t priced American labor out of the market by increased salary demands those jobs might not have left. You can scream about the greed of corporations all you want but it is not all their fault. Your greed (union greed) is a major contributing factor.

Unions destroy capitalism, this is not my opinion it is proven fact. Just like government regulation does not help capitalism it destroys it. Capitalism can only exist and succeed if government does nothing to regulate it. It is the same concept with unions. Capitalism requires a free market exchange of supply and demand. It is driven by that concept and anything that interferes with it eventually destroys it.

KG says — “I am not ignorant of the fact that unions don’t bargain for fair wages. Unions bargain for the best you can get. Just like someone who “negotiates” a salary when they get hired. Or someone who looks for a better paying job”.
No, KG, it’s not just like someone who “negotiates” a salary or looks for a better paying job. Those both involve Voluntary actions.
What you Unionists do is more like a gang of thugs asking the victim for his wallet or else.
It would be one thing to walk out in solidarity. But it’s quite another to surround a company’s facilities harassing (and worse) potential replacement workers who would gladly take what the Unionists are spurning. And harassing the company’s potential customers. And enlisting the Force of Big Government to take the companies’ money through “good faith” negotiations which good faith only exists on the side of the company, in other words what the Unionists and their Big Government protectors will accept, damn the fact that it is the company’s property.
Here are just a few examples of the “worse” that I talked about:
        http://www.righttoworkcommittee.org/fuva1b_videofb.aspx?pid=FBSFB

The readers need simply to read enough of KG’s comments to see what Unionists think like and are capable of.

      • DaveH

When Unionists get their above market wages, it doesn’t just come out of the company’s pockets. It comes out of everybody’s pockets who pay higher prices for their products, who pay the taxes for Big Government to give special protections to Unionists (to buy their votes), who lose their jobs due to cutbacks which result from the higher wages paid to the Unionists, and who lose their jobs because their companies have had enough and exit the US to find a company-friendly country elsewhere.
There is no Free Lunch. The Union theft has to come out somewhere and that somewhere is from the rest of our pockets.

      • DaveH

KG says — “Although it amazes me when I see what Baseball Players get. And their owners are STILL very profitable”.
        Some examples of “very profitable”:
New York Yankees: Value of Franchise (what somebody would theoretically pay to buy it) — $1850 million. Operating Income $10 million. That’s a .5% return on their investment.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Value of Franchise — $1400 million. Operating Income $1.2 million. That’s a .1% (1/10th of 1 percent) return on their investment.
Boston Red Sox: Value of Franchise — $1000 million. Operating Income $25.4 million. That’s a 2.5% return on their investment.
        More team values:
        http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/

How many of you useless Socialists would put up with running a business for even a 2.5% return on your money (highest return of the first three teams on the list)?

      • KG

So, it’s not the CEO’s making billions of dollars who are at fault; you know, the ones making the actual decisions. But the Hourly line workers who are at faut. Hmm. I guess Hitler had a bad rap then.
So, what you are saying is a guy who makes 250 million a year earns every cent, but a guy making prevailing wage and has health insurance is killing the economy?
Right now, I have a million stocks in ENRON. Whats one million times zero?
Which would you rather have ; .01% of 1,000,000? Or .01% of 1,000,000,000?

And where will you find the term collective in relation to a form of government or economic ideology? The collective might be a term used in communism or socialism but it is never used in capitalist theory.”

Interestingly Collective bargaining is from1935 which makes it rather a socialist activity. There is even a special department of the federal government overseeing how it works. Straight out of the definition of Socialism.
        http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/collective_bargaining

What is odd is that this law claims to give people a right (which is impossible cause peoples rights come from God not government) Laws are for PROTECTING rights not granting them. If law granted a right then the law could be changed taking away that right. Such an object is not a right, it is a privilege.

People already have the right to bargain collectively. It’s rights there in the 1st Amendment. Freedom of Association. That means that people have the right to get together and agree to associate with a company, or not.

Where Unions run afoul of the Constitution is forcing people to be members. Where the 1935 law runs afoul of the Constitution is forcing companies to negotiate with only certain employees “The NLRA requires the employer to bargain with the appointed representative of its employees. ” – See link above.

Unions also run afoul of Freedom of Association when they use force to stop people from working in spite of a strike. I am sure there are many other instances but that is enough to make the point.

      • KG

Umm. You seem kinda smart. What does the word UNION mean? I mean, America is known as “the UNITED states? When Bush declared hie “private’ war against Sadam and Iraq, did he ask you for permission? I want my tax money back – I personally received no benefit, so, why not?

        Thanks for confirming our point.

KG: “Mike Moore is right when he said America is awash in cash. It’s just in the hands of the few.”

The few, the proud. The Central Bankers.

KG: “Are Unions extortionists? Well, we do reserve the right to withhold our labor if we are in dis agreement about something.”

As is your right. Where you and unions get into trouble is when you FORCE others to withhold their labor. (Your example of the non union floor installers)

KG: “Because that’s the only power I have as a working person.”

You have a lot more power than that. Stop whining about what owners make and start your own company. Pay workers what you “know” to be a fair wage. Lead by example.

KG: “And thats why Unions are STILL needed. Nobody is going to “give” you anything. You have to fight for it.”

And this statement sums up all that is wrong with your position. Nobody is going to give you anything but you do not have to fight for it. You can earn it.

The fact that you say you have to fight implies that you have to use force.

KG: “It used to be that you took a paycut to work in the public sector. But now, thanks to unionization, those public sector jobs are very attractive.”

Interesting that you consider paying someone more to create nothing a good thing.

Too bad KG, you can’t eat paper either! But, since you don’t like gold, buy a big wheelbarrow. You’re going to need it to wheel your paper money to the store, to wait in line for whatever food is available. By the way, neither gold nor paper money provide much in the way of dietary fiber, but gold doesn’t contain any possibly toxic ink, although it can be toxic in large quantities if you eat it. Much better to exchange it for food.

KG…the most telling statement of Chip’s monologue is “It [dollar] has been losing value virtually every day since the Federal Reserve was founded nearly 100 years ago.”

Of curse it has. In any consumer based capitalist society inflation is needed as part of the system itself. it’s built in otherwise the model will not work. The question is not whether inflation will occur, but what the inflation rate will be. 2’3% is optimal, 5-8% is something to pay attention to, anything above 8% is worrisome and economy will be slowed down.

Bernanke is willing to accept inflation to adjust values and create a confidence and impression of wealth returning to home values. He’s betting on consumer confidence returning, the people in the Middle Class feeling safer, and going forth and being what they are … the Job Creators. On the flip side, he’ll accept having to slow down the economy by raising the rates later on … hoping he can control the growth when people return to spending money.

In theory, it’s a dangerous game which will probably work as long as Europe doesn’t also do the same. Toss in China with the entire Wet undergoing a sudden simulataneous with the US expansion and recovery and things could get dicey. Even if such occurs, China needs to be in the mix. Such is looking less and less likely as it begins the next cycle in its transition to a market economy…an economic slow down followed then by budgetary issues dealing with an aging population, an infrastructure requiring attention, and social unrest due to concentrations of wealth.

All one has to do to figure out Bernanke’s models is look at the Lost Decade Japan went through in the 1990′s and read Bernanke’s studies he published. His final report on that decade became the one which solidified his credentials.

I thought it was business, especially small business, that created jobs. Helicopter Ben is playing with fire, pumping 40 billion a month into the economy on top of QE2 is asking for inflationary problems later on. Momo…small business hires more employees and expands quicker than the monolithic oligarchy of Big Corporate America. But to succeed in any business, the product has to be bought. If there aren't the consumers spending money buying, there is no market for small business to service.

Your second point is exactly the risk Bernanke is running. he's betting that with the imagery of wealth creation..i.e. values "increasing", the Job Creators will begin spending…and he [Bernanke] can balance the expansion with the inflation which will arrive. It's not whether we will hit 5-8%, it is a question of when. Bernanke is betting inflation will come AFTER the recovery is in place and well under way. Then ease into monetary control and slowly balance everything out.

The danger is a triple world wide recovery (US/Europe/China) which I don't see occurring. Europe chose the wrong method to battle the Great Recession. They chose what the GOP and TPers are screaming…and China is catching a cold which may turn into the flu if they aren't careful.

As long as we don't have a double whammy of the Middle Class having tax increases and a sudden significant decrease in "impact" government spending , we should be OK in the long run. Especially if we build in a cushion with decreasing the budget deficits by increasing taxes on the wealthy. Any of the proposed tax increases on the wealthy will have little, if any, impact on our economic job recovery.

So Bernanke is shooting for the “imagery of wealth creation”, in other words he wants to trick people into spending money! Just FYI, people are continuing to de-leverage. They are trying to get rid of old debt, not create new debt. That bet Bernancke is placing is the hope that this hoax will work. You do understand, Flashy, that he;s playing a very dangerous game, which from where I sit could go wrong at any minute.

In the long run, as you Keynesians like to say, we’re all dead! As far as increasing taxes on the wealthy, you could confiscate all the wealth from all the billionaires and millionaires in this country and it wouldn’t cover one year’s budget deficit.

The Federal Reserve Bank is our worst enemy and it needs to be abolished!

We have given a group of global elites unrestricted power to make decisions for our country. They own our currency to do with it whatever they choose…We must “buy” our money from them. These global elites are the ones that own the majority of our debt…NOT China!

People never hear about what the Federal Reserve really does or who owns it..Do our politicians ever talk about how it works. No one controls the Federal Reserve printing presses except its private owners…the global elites that want to rule the world.

Bernake flies in and tells our government what “they” are going to do to our economy!
This time he has told the United States that THEY have decided to spend $40 Billion a month of our money to buy Mortgage backed securities…for an unlimited amount of time.
This is a ploy to bankrupt our country….faster! We are lingering too long, they need to speed-up the process. This QE III will make a lot of progress toward finishing us off, as well.

Do you have any idea what you’re talking about, KG? Nobody kills starving people. They might save them with charity or by providing them a job, but killing is an aggressive action on the part of a killer, not the passive act of letting somebody suffer their own fate.
And like it or not, KG, if you’d take some time to read this book, you’d find that your kind of politics leads to starving people, not the other way around. You’re so blinded by your lust for other peoples’ money that you fail to do the necessary thinking:

The Jewish banks go bankrupt, and then get bailed out with tax payers money, and in return the banks reposess your house because the banks screwed up the economy.

This financial system is the biggest criminal system on earth, and yet the people support it and the jewish owenrs.
    When will America wake up?
At least the people in Europe are starting to see what a criminal scame the banks are.
But in the US of sleepy A ,,We love Israel. We love the Jews”
If the people do not wake up very soon and start taking action, then your downfall is guaranteed.

Woodrow Wilson was the President who signed the Federal Reserve act into law. In later years he lamented his decision.

I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.
    [Source: Woodrow Wilson]

Just before passage of the Federal Reserve Act, Congressman Charles A. Lindbergh Sr. declared:

This Act (the Federal Reserve Act, Dec. 23rd 1913) establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the President signs the Bill, the invisible government of the Monetary Power will be legalised… The worst legislative crime of the ages is perpetrated by this banking and currency Bill…

I get confused sometimes with the use of the term race. I know that the Jewish faith is grounded in the original sons of Jacob Israel, but I fail to see how that makes a Religion a race of people. It would seem more of an ideological grouping of people.

Since I have not seen anyone show anywhere in the Bible how the separate races of man were created (everyone came from One set of parents), I dont know how to address the idea that a White Jew and a Black Jew are genetically (racially) connected. That is of course, unless you simply say the are both members of the human race. But then, that removes them as a separate race of humans. I would say the same about the nation of Islam, it is more of an ideology than a race. So everyone who says it is racist to be against Jews or Muslims are full of BS.

Now there is the term antisemitism, which is more closely related to bigotry than racism. To bundle a set of people into a specific group mentality is wrong. To say all Jews are evil banksters who want to rule the world is WRONG. To say we should get rid of all Jews in this country (does Hitler come to mind?) is WRONG. Should we pay to ship them all to where they belong (where is that), or just kill them all (like Hitler)?

When a person advocates eliminating a specific group from our nation they are going against our own constitution as well as God’s law. Today we get rid of the Jews because their success in the banking industry is bad for our country. Tomorrow we can get rid of the Atheists because their sins are bad for our country. The next day we can get rid of all the stupid people because they cant understand our way of life.

What group of people do I classify you as so I can get rid of your kind of people too?

It is not about what you think, want or like, it is about everyone’s rights.

Dont know who to quote here but a famous person said “when the rights of one person is lost, the rights of everyone are gone.”. Maybe I got the exact words wrong and should not be in quotes but you get the meaning.

Atheists dont believe in sins is not the same as saying they dont have sins.

          • http://smoovious.wordpress.com Smoovious Laxness

            that’s just rediculous…

sins are acts that go counter to the belief system you subscribe to…

you subscribe to a belief system that includes the concept of sin…

athiests, don’t subscribe to a belief system that includes the concept of sin…

therefore, actions that you take that are against your belief system, are sins

actions that athiests take that are against your belief system, are not since, because they don’t subscribe to that belief system. you can’t impose your system on someone else and make their actions sins, if their actions are not counter to their belief system.

you would only be projecting your system which only applies to you, and others who chose to subscribe to your system, on others, who do not.

athiests just don’t have sins. it isn’t part of their belief structure.

            – Smoov

          • Frank Kahn

I attempted to find your definition of sin in 5 different dictionaries and failed. If you have some proof for your opinion of what sin is then please provide a link. All sources I found link it to crimes against God which covers everyone whether they believe in him or not. Even the most liberal (non God related) definition said something about living badly, which would cover atheists also.

          • http://smoovious.wordpress.com Smoovious Laxness

You’re looking to a dictionary for that?

Ok… the dictionary definition is of course 100% accurate… which has nothing to do with what I said…

You pre-suppose that everyone believes in god when you say someone has sin.

A person who doesn’t believe in the concept of a god in the first place, has little use for the concept of ‘sin’, as well.

If you believe their actions to be sins, that’s of course, up to you, but that is between you and your god, through your eyes. Your belief in your god and in sin, does not place that burden on someone else, just because you think it does, and that others should accept that placement upon them, even if they don’t believe in your system.

Please stop looking to dictionaries for questions of theology. It isn’t a dictionary’s purpose to get into the philosophy of a word it defines.

            – Smoov

          • Frank Kahn

And you should stop prevaricating about the subject. To acknowledge the existence of something has no bearing on its reality. The word sin as I use it is correct. I did not say they will go to Hell because of it. They sin just like everyone else, the perceived consequences is not the question here. It is a fact based on American English definition. I can care less what they believe, nor was my saying to get rid of them because of it serious, I was just pointing out the error of saying you should get rid of someone based on their personal beliefs or some other broad grouping idea.

Words have meanings, which sometimes are misused, but using them in their correct context is always acceptable. Calling different colored people a different race is wrong because they are all part of the human race (species).

          • http://smoovious.wordpress.com Smoovious Laxness

As an athiest myself, I can assure you… I’m not a sinner, and have no sin in me…

I can also say, using the same reasoning you are using for yourself to say other people are sinners and have sin, that you yourself aren’t a sinner either and have no sin, and not to worry about it, because there is no such thing as ‘sin’.

You’re a joke, KG. Unionists did not give us shorter work-weeks. Unionists did not end Child labor. Both came as a result of increased productivity in times when the Markets still had a modicum of Freedom and capital investment allowed workers (thanks to the company owners) to produce more with their labor and earn more. Unionists deplete the capital that contributes to that higher productivity, thus decreasing the productivity, which results inevitably in worse working conditions, not better.

      You’re referring to the Liberty Rig on Gaul Island. . . have you verified this beyond all possible doubt?         { as it’s all within the text of “UN Agenda 21″ for anyone to find}
That is; only if one has done the researched on UN AG 21 platform ~ as well can comprehended the overall ramifications of UN AG 21.

Again ~ do as you so wish.

** To any of you who want to better understand what you face, then you have the keys, but its up to YOU to think and act.

Peace & Love be with you.

      • Sirian

        Time,
I’m not arguing with you either it’s simply a matter that exists within the parameters of one mans story. Lindsey Williams is merely relaying what he supposedly was “told” by someone else. Someone supposedly at a higher level within BP. If that may be the actual truth, great! Undeniably, Truth has no agenda.
So, all I wish, and expect, is that this story could be verified with enough evidence to prove it’s actual truthfulness. Do I discount this altogether? NO, it’s simply again, one mans story that up to now has not and presumedly can not be verified.
Could this be tied into Agenda 21? Believe it or not, I agree with you, very possible. [BTW, as a note . . . I’m fully aware of Agenda 21 and it’s several offshoots.]
Still, if there is evidence out there that will back his message please provide a link to it. I would love to see and read that too.
Remember, what one man says, one man’s tale, with no “hard copy” evidence to back it, remains questionable. You need to accept that it could be very misleading also. An intentional re-direction by him or perhaps the same unwittingly. Evidence is vital, no?

Again, the euro provided a disciplinary framework and an early curb on the deficit, in contrast to the budget recklessness of countries that are victims of monetary nationalism, and specifically, the United States and especially the United Kingdom, which closed with a public deficit of 10.1 percent of GDP in 2010 and 8.8 percent in 2011, which on a worldwide scale was only exceeded by Greece and Egypt. Despite such bloated deficits and fiscal-stimulus packages, unemployment in the United Kingdom and the United States remains at record (or very high) levels, and their respective economies are just not getting off the ground.

  • Glen

Only one additional point on KG’s tirade since most of it already seems so inane as to make response needless. The Jews have long been accused of killing Jesus by those who forget that it was Roman (i.e. Italian) soldiers who committed the deed and a Roman who ordered it done though the Jewish leadership did request it. However, the overarching truth is that WE ALL killed him. If not for his death and resurrection, we would have no hope. It might be more honest to ignore who did what and simply be glad that it gave us the hope that we now have.

There 2 “kinds” of christians: born again, who live with a new nature who can not sin, and religious (in name only) “christians” who brought a bad name to the real followers of Christ. There is “fool’s gold” “fool’s christian”. You need to be born again, sealed with the Holy Spirit to get discernment to diferentiate between the 2. Is the light from above who is going to open your “spiritual eyes”.

Today you see jews who are atheist, zionist, religious (try to aproach God by what they can do), born again christian jews (true followers of Abraham – the father of faith) who accepted Messiah and who are waiting for His comming return to restore the Kingdom in the milenium. There are not the Christian Jews who are bankers and hold the real power in Israel or Europe or US. Those with the real power and under the infuence of Satan will be punished very soon at His glorious comming – not for what they are doing now but for rejecting the Messiah – same like the gentiles doing the same thing.

According to Romans 2: 28&29 and Revelations 2:9 & 3:9, the people we call Christians are the real Jews. Jew is the nickname for the children of Judah. According to prophecies, there would be a line between King David and Christ and it would come through the children of Judah. The line would continue with believers of Christ until Christ’s second coming. Born again Jews or Christians. The rest of the tribes forsook God when they split from doing his will.1 Kings 11.They’re called the “lost” tribes. God has thing to say they are Jews and are not. This does not mean all descendant coming out the line of Judah are better people. We’re all the until we reach the age of reason. That’s decision time. Jerusalem as we know it will be utterly destroyed Matt: 1, 1-8. Revelations references a new Jerusalem coming down from heaven. The people calling themselves Jews are all idolators, the same as the Pharisee’s at the time of Christ when they wanted a “real” savior to get them back their land. He came to save souls, not real estate.

If you had twenty, twenty dollar gold pieces from years gone by, you would be able to buy a $37,000.00 automobile today with them. The value of the coins hasn’t gone up, the value of those paper the government issues has gone DOWN. They cal it inflation, I call it counterfeiting. When the American people were allowed to own gold and silver coins, they actually owned a commodity they could use as a medium of exchange. They owned it and the government had interest in it. Legitimate paper money would be backed by the commodity referenced on it’s face. A twenty dollar “receipt” or certificate would have that much gold on deposit any time the paper holder wanted it. With that legitimate system, the purchasing power of money would increase, as illiustrated above. You wouldn’t need a pay raise because your money would be worth more because of the genius of American industry. A Baker use to make loaves of bread one at a time. Now a Baker can make thousands of loaves in the same time.

With the Federal Reserve system, the people no longer own money. They are issued FRN’s, NOTES, creating an obligation to repay reprinted on them, payable to the Federal Reserve. If you own gold, the purchasing power of gold will continue to increase, hedging on the value of the pieces of paper. If you have paper, you’ll more of it to buy gold. The only way the price gold can go down is for the government to increase the value of their paper and they can’t do that printing more of it. When they issue more paper the value of the new prints is the same as paper in circulation. That’s what they pay their bills with. When the market knows there’s more paper out their, the paper you presently have will decrease. It’s a form of tax. God’s rules of economics are unbreakable.

You have to segregate Jews, Israeli’s and Zionist. Todays Zionist run parallel to the Pharisee’s of Christ times. The Pharisee’s wanted a savior of their land, not a Savior of their souls. The Zionist want Jerusalem, Samaria and Judea for themselves, even though there is absolutely no scripture to back their claim. There’s about 35,000 Jews living in Iran who wouldn’t set foot in what we call Israel. Theodor Herz’l's, the founder of todays Zionist, claims are completely without scriptual foundation. Christ described the Pharisee’s and his decription of them fits todays Zionist’s. Read Romans 2: 28&29 and Revelations 2:9 and 3:9

Dave H. Your pure libertarianism will never work. Government is a necessary evil. Who will enforce property rights? Mine and those of similar persuasions private Army against yours? There is a happy medium somewhere in between what you espouse and where we are today. We started getting away from it in the mid 1800′s, Government power as slowly inched it’s way to where it was in 1980, Slowed down a little, then rapidly increased under Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama. We may be beyond the point of no return until their is another violent revolution. Unfortunately their armies have much more powerful weapons than does yours or mine. What will you do? Instead of spending all of your time on this web site, and I am sure others, may I suggest you spend your time being more productive and prepare yourself and your loved ones for the coming wars and human sacrifice that is sure to follow these recent events. We both know they have to reduce the population, otherwise they might loose control of the masses. Hide your books, food, weapons and ammo. The will be coming for all of it in the very near future.

Have I ever said do away with all Government, CC?
Who protects us from monopoly Government when it aids and protects its favorite Crony Capitalists?
In a respectful voluntary world, like Libertarians advocate, Government would be empowered only to protect the property rights of others, and not much else. Even there, private local courts would suffice to keep the peace in most situations. And the Prosperity that would result from much less Government (they’re Very Expensive, you know) and Free Markets would satisfy the vast majority of people thus leaving only a very few malcontents to deal with.
Murray Rothbard wrote a very fine book outlining how Libertarian ideals would work. But get out your dictionary:

CC says — “Unfortunately their armies have much more powerful weapons than does yours or mine”.
If we were allowed to be fully armed, local organizations (strictly monitered) could provide every bit as much protection against outside invasion as our Leviathan Government does. The only difference would be that we would have a Government who is afraid of the people, not a people who are afraid of their Government like we have now.

CC says — “Instead of spending all of your time on this web site”.
The pen is mightier than the sword, CC. An informed populace is much more likely to lead to peace and prosperity, than an ignorant hunkered-down paranoid populace.

what i don’t get is…. the total debts that are owed are greater than the amount of money available to pay them off. this is for all people, all companies and all govts worldwide. wherever you go there isn’t enough money. this is because of interest. for example i have paid 24,000 so far toward my trailer (yes laugh) but still owe 18,000 even though the trailer’s cost was 36,000. (still laughing? some pick-up trucks cost that. you can see trucks like that at any community food pantry. their payments have them strapped so in they go, free groceries!) but overlooked is that debt doesn’t go up with inflation, or even with all this quantitative easing. if your mortgage balance is 200,000 it is exactly that, they don’t have an inflation escalator where suddenly it is now 250,000. so why don’t they take all this money they’re printing up and pay off everyone’s debts? it’s not a dog chasing its tail, there is a fixed set amount that is owed and all they have to do is print up that much money and pay all the debt off. i don’t think a struggling truck stop waitress would object to that, but what she does hate is where ben’s money is printed up in the trillions (along with obama’s 787 billion in ahem shovel ready stimulus) and what does she see of it? what she does see is the gas she’s buying is at $4 instead of $2. so why not just set a date and say all debts public and private are now paid off. any economists out there to refute this?

    • Vicki

That struggling truck stop waitress benefits from larger tips as food prices also go up. She can also demand and get paid more base rate just as any other worker can. This is the problem that people don’t understand. Supply and demand affect EVERYTHING. Including the (fiat) paper used for “money”.

This is exactly why every one of us in every State in the Union needs to call our Senators and DEMAND that they back the ‘Audit the Fed’ bill, Harry Reid is trying to sweep under his desk. We have got to get involved and unite if we want to put a stop to the Fed’s counterfeiting. All they are doing, with the Government’s blessings, is substituting worthless paper for worthless paper. All of it is counterfeit, yet we the people are being handed deficits of billions of dollars to be paid through our labor. How does the Fed get away with? How have they gotten along with robbing us for so long. We have become a Nation of sheep. It is time we stand up and Demand the transparency we were promised … in all arenas, I might add.

We need to lobby that the Federal Reserve gets abolished, and that we get back to a sound monetary system consisting of Gold as money so Government Leaders and Bankers can’t willy-nilly rob us of our earned wealth.
      http://library.mises.org/books/Ron%20Paul/Case%20for%20Gold.pdf

      • http://wildeyguns.com The Christian American

If that happened, the money would be ours not governments. The only role the government would play in money would be to sure it was ligitimate. In 1864 the secret service was founded to do just that, make sure the paper money was 100% backed by gold or silver.

  • Nathan B

I agree with Chip, except that it is not that gold is getting more valuable. Gold and silver and any other precious metal has an inherent value due to a) it’s usefulness(including aesthetic use i.e. jewelry) and b) its scarcity. That value, like the existence of the metal is finite, a fixed point in space and time to borrow a phrase if you will. What is fluctuating is the value of the dollar in comparison to the value of gold. Compare if you will, the dollar value of a troy oz of gold in 1971 when we left the gold standard as compared to the dollar value of that same oz now. That oz of gold has not changed. It is still the same oz that existed 31 yrs ago. So in reality its value is unchanged, as there hasn’t been any huge deposits of gold found that have really massively increased the total amount of known gold in existence. In 71, I believe that oz was worth approximately $35. Compare that to the same oz now. It had a huge increase in value, right? Wrong. What you’re seeing is the amount the dollar has lost in value. The dollar is paper currency, nothing more nothing less. It’s value is also at least partially determined by its scarcity. However, since the deviation from the gold standard, you can see the amount of money that has been injected into the economy (use deficit spending over the years) has skyrocketed. This is where the value has gone. Add to that fractional reserve banking, which basically makes every bank a mini-FED, and what you’ll find is that a) the dollar is nigh on worthless in reality and b) there exists more debt than there is money. What does that matter, we just pay it back, right? Wrong. You can’t pay it all back because there’s not enough money to pay it back. So the only recourse is to borrow from someone else (another country) to pay back your own country’s central bank. But that doesn’t get rid of the debt, that simply shifts who owns the debt, much like banks buying and selling loans and mortgages. The economy/money supply is similar to an electric circuit or a closed loop fluid system. It only contains what is put into it, no more no less. If I have an empty system, inject 40 gallons of fluid into it, I can’t expect to be able to draw out 60 gallons, no matter how many times it circulates. And that right there is the fundamental flaw in the FED. That from its inception, it has loaned out (regardless of what is said about giving, transfers, injections, etc; it’s still a loan) with interest. If the FED controls all the money flow, and only puts in a given amount (even when they add more and more like QE3), it’s accruing interest and therefore more money is due back than was ever put in. Now I’m not a hater, just a skeptic, so to me that is nothing more than an attempt at an economic perpetual motion device. It can’t keep going forever. And it won’t. QE3 is indeed part of a last ditch effort to keep a scuttled ship afloat. What’s truly sad is the two candidates that might have at least steered the ship back towards land instead of into deeper waters, one has been denied the nomination, the other has been marginalized.

In the end, we get what we ask for, right?

“it was prophesied he would be killed by his own people, so why hate the great-great-great”-”-”-”-”-”-” grandsons and daughters of the ones who fulfilled the prophesy?”
As a Christian I do not hate the Jews for killing their Savior. Indeed, prophecy was fulfilled as will it be in the future when he comes again in power and glory. At that time they will all understand that they did indeed kill him, which I don’t think they now do know or accept. When he comes as is recorded in Ezekiel the whole Jewish nation will morn because of the prints in his hands and feet and fall to the ground in astonishment and worship him. (Which by the way does not seem to be far in the distance.) But that matters not. What matters is where we are personally in relation to our standing with him when he does get here or when we leave this life. What will happen is set in stone and none of us can change it. All we can do is pick sides. Either you believe and follow Christ as we know him and try to do your best where ever you find yourself or don’t and follow the “Antichrists”. That is what all this turmoil is about. Choose your side wisely, your choice will have eternal consequences and that is a long time to live with a mistake.

As far as KC is concerned, you should read the 10 commandments again. Especially the one which states “Thou shall not Covet”. You are being conditioned by someone who benefits from trying to stir you up. They can not exist with out creating contention. What’s worse is you are paying them your good money every month in the form of dues to do it. You could probably invest that money a lot better.

  • HSMom2004

It would be wonderful if all people could understand money effectively. No, one cannot eat gold, but it makes a good standard bartering tool for other goods one may need. People who clamor for more money doing basic jobs do not understand that paying them more for that as a standard across-the-board policy rather than based on the merit of the quality of their work only increases the costs of goods so that they wind up working the same amount (or even more) to cover the costs of the goods they wish to buy. The paycheck may have more or higher digits on it, but the value – the amount those digits are worth by virtue of what they can purchase – is the same or even less. By virtue of the social taxes we pay in for medicare and social security, the employee pays half and their employer pays half. That means that when the employer is coerced into giving a non-merit-based raise through legislation or unions then the employer is taxed additionally for the cost of products created by paying the employees more and paying additional money into the social taxes that the employee does not see, as well as matching more in 401(K) or other such funds. How does the business owner recoup these costs, by raising the cost of goods sold. So while it looks like bigger numbers coming in, the costs have increased. There is a point at which consumers will balk at a given price and will not purchase certain items at that price. At this point, the business owner must decide if he will increase production without incurring additional costs so that he can make the same amount by selling more or reduce the costs of production, usually by laying off laborers, or close the business and lay off everyone.
People need to look at how many hours it takes to earn whatever they are purchasing. Understanding that you are trading labor for dollars and then trading those dollars for whatever you desire, it is your hours that are being bartered. How many hours did it take you to be able to pay for X before? How many does it take now (and wait a few months for the economy to catch up)? When pay raises for the lowest levels are required through legislation or unions, those with more experience who are getting paid above “minimum wage” may not get a raise and in effect get a reduced income because they can no longer purchase as much with their hour of work as they could before.
Certainly, one needs to purchase the necessary food supplies first to allow one to sustain oneself until one can plant a garden or what have you should an emergency occur; however, precious metals hold their value because one can purchase the same amount of X regardless of the way our fiat money moves. Also, if everyone were to grow a garden, people may still need other items. If everyone had a bumper crop of zucchini but not much else made, trading zucchini is not going to work as well for X as having some gold to trade for clothing or other needed articles.
Understanding that bank notes seldom represent the actual amount of precious metals the bank has is what causes bank runs when on a precious metal basis.
If people do not understand these fundamentals, read “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” or watch “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Buying gold is a gamble, the risk of which I don’t care to take. During the great depression, FDR made the possession of gold illegal. I would not put that past the Obama regime at all. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, the only precious metals I intend to invest in is lead and copper jacketed lead.
If hyperinflation results from the Fed turning on the printing presses, or from the modern equivalent, their computers telling banks’ computers that deposits have been made that have nothing backing them up, neither gold nor silver will do anyone a bit of good. If a loaf of bread increases in price from around a dollar to 1 trillion dollars (it happened with the deutsch mark after WW1), or if inflation increases to 3000% per annum (it happened in Argentina in 1989) then paper money or electronic deposits won’t mean a thing. And when the federal government makes possession of gold or silver a crime, then coins and ingots won’t mean a thing.
Ammo, on the other hand, can put food on the table, providing you live in or close to a rural area.

The world banks are held captive by what we do with the dollar, The dollar is the world’s Soverign currency. It’s the money they trade with. When countries of the world no longer want America dollars we are done… That is why

Foreign countries don’t have to devalue their currency, we’re doing it for them. They can’t print counterfeit dollars, like the district of criminals can. Countries like Brazil and China enter into agreements to us the other countries currency. That’s fine so long as their trade is only between them but the dollar being the world’s soverign currency they have to use for the most part. Countries like the one’s making like BRICS, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, are trying to get a basket of their currencies to replace the worthless dollar. The dollar has value because we have the most guns, plain and simple.

I read the bginning of this and it should say “Central banks are counterfeiting money and counterfeit money is gold’s best friend”. This government learned a lesson from the communist leader Lenin. Change words and the definition of words and you can make things that would be repugnant sound good or not understood by the people. Example: Counterfeit money is the same as inflated monrey. QE3, Quantitative Ease, is the same as saying lots of counterfeit money. Contract people is the same mercenaries. Abortion is the same as murder in the womb. Government aid is the same as stealing from one person and giving a portion of the loot to someone else, for their cooperation of course. When applied to us, they revert back to the right words to prosecute us. Lenin recognized that people think in words and how they interpret words is who they are. We’re blind to the truth when it comes to this system of government. Our Constitution was written in truth, that’s why they’re constantly changing it or abandoning it.
