Green Tea, Mushrooms Can Lower Breast Cancer Risk

If you’re worried about breast cancer, a diet including lots of green tea and mushrooms may just be the winning combination to significantly lower your risk. The results of a new study published in the International Journal of Cancer stated the following:
- Women who ate more than 10 grams of fresh mushrooms per day had about 66 percent less risk of having breast cancer than women who ate no mushrooms.
- Females who consumed at least 4 grams of dried mushrooms each day had only 50 percent of the risk of breast cancer compared to those who ate none.
- Drinking green tea on top of the mushroom consumption added another level of protection—women in this category had up to an 89 percent less chance of developing breast cancer than those who didn’t consume either the mushrooms or the green tea.
Plus, lab research has shown anti-tumor characteristics in mushroom extracts, while green tea contains polyphenols—antioxidants that are known to fight breast tumors in animals.
