Government Set To Announce Transfer Of Gitmo Prisoners To U.S.

December 18, 2009 by

Government set to announce transfer of Gitmo prisoners to U.S.In an attempt to meet the self-imposed January deadline for closing the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, the government has said it will purchase a nearly empty state prison in Thomson, Illinois, and transfer up to 100 prisoners currently held at the Cuban base.

The official announcement to buy the Thomson Correctional Center came Tuesday.

An anonymous government official was quoted by the Chicago Tribune as saying that the decision "is an important step forward as we work to achieve our national security objectives," adding that it will help remove "a deadly recruiting tool from the hands of al-Qaida."

State officials have also pointed out that the plan would create about 2,000 new jobs and bring some $1 billion in federal funds to the area. Meanwhile, administration officials put the estimated number of new jobs at 3,800.

Just days after taking office last January Obama signed an executive order to shut down the Guantanamo Bay prison within a year and to ban harsh interrogations techniques. Since its opening in 2002, the detention center has come under international criticism from governments and human rights groups alleging prisoners were held there without due process and may have been tortured.

In recent months nearly 100 of the 210 detainees at Guantanamo have been cleared to be transferred to their home countries and other nations, and five are awaiting trial in New York.

If this administration feared another attack from within, upon American soil on their watch, then why did they issue a invitation to the very ones who can fulfill this nightmare?

It is very possible that we may see a entire city held hostage.

  • Alan Clark

    Remember the three S’s
    Shoot
    Shovel
    Shut up

    • Curtis S

lol! Alan are you a farmer? My dad was a farmer and he said the same thing about the mad cow outbreak, Shoot, shovel & shut-up. That’s probably why the rural crime rate is lower too! Great post!

  • Warrior

Good, now that Illinois is rank 45th out of 51 for the least happy places to live in the US, this should move us up the list.

  • Scott Armstrong

This is going to blow up in Americas Face.

  • http://libertydigest Sally

We should have left them in Cuba and to the hands of our military leaders who have the expertise in such matters. Not the do gooders
who don’t have a clue what it takes to get information in these dangerous times.
Do they think the country we are at war with is going to give any consideration to our service men’s treatment when captured? Can they forget 9/11 so easily? They obviously did not have anyone burned alive
in the twin towers, how humane was that? Waterboarding pails. Merle Haggard had it wrignt when he sang love it or leave it.

  • J C

Maybe they’ll just move them to one of the dozens of other Black Ops prison camps we have around the world.

  • Scott Armstrong

Hit the wrong key. What a lot of people dont know is the way detained/incarcerated people need to be taken care of.
It is Fair, Firm and Consistant. But more important is you need to be able to communicate with people. Has the Government prepared in advance staff on line to speak with these people, you need to speak the language, and I have no idea how many og these Gitmo detainees speak how ever many languages.
The local people looking for the new incoming Job,s need to realize they are not going to be the first to get these jobs, at least the one,s dealing with the terrorist one on one.
There was an incident in New York, and Officer took a detainee back to his cell to get legal documents for his attorney, the detainee (terrorist) shanked the officer in the eye with a comb that was fashioned into a comb, my understanding is the officer will never return to work due to the injuy.
These are not day school children, these people want to kill us.

Another issue that most dont understand, once these detainee,s step foot on American soil, the rule of law changes.

Let,s say a detainee is released from custody because a charging document isnt correct, we know he did what ever, but now he is on the street living in your town.

Then immigration comes into the picture, and this post detainee (terrorist) applies for polictical asylum, he may be granted if an Immigration Judge believes the detainee,s story.

But remeber this, we have so many illegals in this Country, and we dont know who half of them are, and the ones we arrest, we still dont know who a lot of them are. Some have to be search by Interpole (Inter-national Police)and some Countries wont give the USA information.

Case in point, Fidel Castro and Jimmy Carter, Jimmy to Fidel, send me those that want to come to America, Fidel did just that, people in mental hospital, and his hard core convicts, placed them on boats and sent them north, A very costly lesson, and believe me, we didnt know who we had, took years to figure out who some of them were.

America fights everyday to keep terrorist out, now we have an administration that is bringing them in.

God help us all, we are going to need it!

  • Scott Armstrong

    Warrior,
Be careful what you ask for, you may get it, and then wish you hadnt.
God Bless America and You Sir!

  • Scott Armstrong

    Sally,
Your 100% correct. They do not belong here on American Soil.
I salute you, God Bless America and you to Sally!

  • Marilyn

Just what we need – more terrorists in the United States! As Harry S. Truman was taught to say, “Manure!”

  • Scott Armstrong

    JC
Just as a FYI, the last I heard is that there is 35 Islam training camps in the United States, of the 35 camps they are in 22 States here.
As our fighting Men and Women along with others from America, are being spanked for water boarding, It make me wonder how long the course is for cutting a head of a person when he is tied up, and can not defend himself?
Black ops, CIA, water boarding, stacking naked detainees, maybe America needs to re-think our position.
God Bless America and you Too JC!
I hope your Not the One and Only JC ? LOL

  • Curtis S

Now there’s a plane they could crash into an empty field in Pennsylvania.

  • Rebecca

We have enough criminals and no where to house them. Our prisons are already overcrowded and understaffed. The United States housing these foreign inmates is an act of terrorism waiting to happen.

  • J C

Scott, first of all, the only people training on American soil should be the military, militia’s (minutemen etc.). My opinion is that Muslim training camps in the US should be the target of “live exercises” by our own military. The fact that they are here, and YOU know they are here…tells me that our own government officials are complicit in allowing this to happen. So who really is the enemy?
When Napolitano over at the DHS is willing to add Veteran’s returning from over seas to be put on watch lists, not as patriots, but as “security threats”…who really is the enemy? When the DHS is running road blocks on average Americans and restricting their freedoms…who is the real threat to liberty? All in all, my feeling is that yes we have an external enemy, but we have an internal enemy too. I get the feeling we won’t be truly secure until we are all handcuffed and gagged. And no I’m not THAT JC lol. Merry Christmas my friend.

  • Joe H.

    Scott,
now they are being persecuted for less than water boarding!!!!they gave a prisoner a fat lip and are being threatened with imprisonment!!! What a pail of bull crap!!!

  • Rod

Gosh Alan Clark, that sounds good to me! These radical left
bastards have found many ways to attempt to destroy our country.
    Americans have had enough lies.

  • http://??????????? Gwen

Political Correctness has to have been devised by an enemy of the USA. What blows my mind is that it was allowed to survive! What’s wrong with people these days? Doesn’t anyone care? We didn’t capture those terrorists( that would gladly lop off our heads, on TV)to give them Civil Rights. They are the ENEMY!!!! Just like the word “ILLEGAL”, nobody understands that word either. Give me a break!!!! WAKE UP AMERICA, while you can still wake up in a free Country.

  • Gwen

Great!!! Now our esteemed new Government is in the Prison business. Watch for the breakouts. Nothing like setting ourselves up for disaster!!

  • Michael J.

This is just part of Obama’s world wide apeasement program. Down playing domestic acts of terror perpetrated by muslims. Even the phrase “act of terror” has been softened to “man caused disasters”.
During his presidential campaign he played to the cheering crowds in Europe while apologizing for America’s so called arrogance. Since his inauguration he has traveled the globe more than any president in history.
Why? Because he sees his time as president of the United States as merely a stepping stone to his ultimate goal, which is to become United Nations Secretary General. In other words king of the fast approaching new world order.
This job demands a tough stance against torture and action against global warming.
So looking at his actions and deeds from this prospective one can begin to glean the method behind the madness.

  • Alan Clark

I suggest we begin to think of our country as an extremely valuable automobile from the past. We have come to depend on this vehicle as it has served us well for many years not to mention the fact that it has class, character and above all, it was made in the USA. Sadly, our cherished ride has developed some rust over time and instead of jumping on it and repairing it properly at the onset, we chose to simply cover it up with a little paint. Ah, that’s better, now she looks as good as new again. Problem is the stuff we covered up is still in there eating away at our body and framework. As time passes, more rust appears and we simply spray on more fresh color to hide it until one day, the doors won’t close and when we set something in the trunk it falls through to the ground.
My friends, covering this up doesn’t fix it. The proper and ONLY way is to remove the RUST completely and put in NEW METAL. There is no other way. Am I wrong? I don’t think so. I restore old cars as a hobby so I guess you could say I know what it takes to do the job right.

  • Robert

I believe former Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Peters said it best. Our soldiers should kill the enemy when they are encountered and not take them as prisoners. These people want to kill us and our brave soldiers, so it’s seems logical to kill them first and be done with them. Besides they have 67 virgins waiting for them. Wouldn’t want them to go stale now, would we?

  • J C

I would call B-HO a traitor…but he would have to be an American to qualify for that tag.

  • J C

Wouldn’t it be fun if there was a spelling mistake somewhere and there were 67 “Virginians” waiting for them? ;-)

  • Curtis S

Rebecca, the Thomson Correction Center is a maximum security prison that was built in 2001 and sat empty for five years. For the past three years, only the minimum security part of the prison has been used, but there are 1600 EMPTY maximum security cells to hold the Gitmo prisoners. You’re concerns are unwarranted.

  • Curtis S

There’s an email that floats around that covers the 72 virgin question, it’s hilarious, it’s a picture of 72 elderly Catholic nuns. Show that picture to a young muslim boy, tell him that’s his heavenly reward and he will probably lose his interest in jihad.

  • J C

Yeah and hopefully this time there would be something to prove a plane hit the ground ;-)

  • Joe H.

    Gwen,
Nothing the government runs is run right so I guess you are more right than you think!!! The tower guards probably won’t have loaded weapons!!!! Good ole’ Barney Fife and his “one” bullet!!!!!

  • Robert

72? I thought it was 67. What’s with the extra 5? Bonus time? By the way, a guy goes into a porn shop to buy a female sex doll. The store keeper says he has three varieties. A blond swede for $7,500.00, a Italian sultress for $ 5,000.00 and a Muslim slut for $5.00. Curious, the buyer asks why the Muslim doll is so cheap to which the storekeeper replies, “That one blows itself up”.
