Gert Weakens, Moves Into Northern Atlantic

MIAMI, Aug. 16 (UPI) — Tropical Storm Gert weakened Tuesday as it pushed northeastward into the northern Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Gert, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, was about 410 miles northeast of Bermuda and moving in a northeasterly direction at 22 mph, the center said in its 5 a.m. EDT advisory.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.

The center said some weakening was expected and Gert was likely to lose its tropical storm characteristics within the next 24 hours.
