Gates to ease enforcement of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy

March 30, 2010 by

Gates to ease enforcement of 'don't ask, don't tell' policyDefense Secretary Robert Gates has announced that the Pentagon will soften its policy of not allowing openly homosexual individuals to serve in the military.

Gates said that anonymous, third party complaints will no longer trigger an investigation under the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. With the new guidelines, which will go into effect in 30 days, informants must present complaints under oath and each case needs to be reviewed by a senior officer at the level of a one-star general or higher. Military leaders are also advised to ignore complaints based on simple hearsay.

Furthermore, military personnel can no longer be expelled from any branch of the armed forces based on information provided to lawyers, clergy and psychotherapists, CNN reports.

“I believe these changes represent an important improvement in the way the current law is put into practice, above all by providing a greater measure of common sense and common decency,” said Gates.

Meanwhile, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said that the new guidelines undermine the enforcement of the law, which Gates admitted can only be repealed by Congress.

“The new regulations only invite open defiance of the law which was passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton,” concluded Perkins.

GAtes and this adminstration are nuts- they are going to see a mass leaving of the present enlisted me when it time to re-up. This is just another example of the adminstration not listen to the PRO”S.
    ARROGANT socialism/communists

    • Reader

Yes, they are slick, sick, arrogant socialist/commies and THEY ARE HERE NOW. Inside our government.

TELL OUR TROOPS TO COME HOME AND HELP US FIGHT THIS BATTLE. N O W!!!!!!!!! OUR COUNTRY is being destroyed from within while you are made to run around in a desert looking for WHAT??? A now elderly man who years ago had kidney disease? IF found, then what?? We prove we win? WHAT do we win?? Honor? I don’t think so… it wasn’t intended that we find him OR receive any honor for it. IT IS A TRICK. Get your buns home and face THIS ENEMY who has free rein with us. COME ON HOME AND TAKE A STAND HERE. ALL OF YOU. The door is open for the homosexuals and they should be given the opportunity to prove their abilities…. without anyone carrying their water. Get it?

  • Doc Sarvis

I have much more faith in our military and its professionalism than you seem to have. I think this is the best military in the world and the professional men and women in it would not be phased by the Gates policy.

    • Reader

So… Is it no wonder folks are wondering if Gates is a closeted gay?

Best Military in the world? You BETCHA, and civilians are now called to PROTECT THEM, because they cannot protect themselves from whatever regulations are put on them by the likes of those pushing for open homosexuality in their foxholes and tanks and sleeping quarters, and showers, etc.

Doc, what is “professionalism” to you? If in terms of getting the job done in spite of war/military difficulties, YES, our military is very professional. The Pentagon and our leaders are now in question about THEIR professionalism. Let the Pentagon and our leaders deal with an all homosexual military and prove to the world they are right…

An opinion… Obama has just met with Putin and made some kind of a deal… surely affects Afghanistan. What if Obama pulls the troops out and enables commies to step back in again and take over. Putin would owe Obama for restoring Afghanistan to Russia and it would become a MARXIST country again… REMEMBER when the MARXISTS controlled Afghanistan before? Remember the mass graves that were later uncovered and P.O.’d Bin Laden who hates commies and went after Russia with a lot of hard fighting Afghanistanis?

There is a lot going on and we NEED our troops HOME NOW, and to FORCE the Pentagon and the leaders pushing homosexuality in our military to sit in the middle of their pie, without “normal” troops.

      • http://yahoo Dennis in KC

George W. Bush was a closeted gay.

He’s the president that gave White House press credentials to a gay male prostitute. That was Jeff “The Man Cannon” Gannon, who also had several sleepovers at the White House.

So who was he doing, W., the deserter from the National Guard, or Rove ?

        • Retired Military

CLOSETED? is that a new word you made up? When did they put computers with internet access in the mental ward at County General?

          • http://yahoo Dennis in KC

It just means that he’s one of those gay people that won’t admit it. Like a lot of other things in his life he’s too chicken to admit that he’s queer.

Who was that gay prostitute visiting when he slept over at the White House ? It was either Bush or Karl Rove.

          • Marc

Looks like he didn’t make it up….been around a few hundred years.

            http://www.britannica.com/bps/dictionary?query=closeted

“So… Is it no wonder folks are wondering if Gates is a closeted gay?”
        a
After doing an internet search, this is the only place I’ve found that question.
Does his family think he is ?
        http://marriage.about.com/od/politics/p/robertgates.htm

    • Retired Military

Doc, please don’t compliment the hard working military people then in the same breath kiss up to them assuming their professionalism makes them willing to accept this updated military gay policy. People have their own thoughts and beliefs on sexuality, they can’t be forced to believe something new because a very small group thinks it is a good idea. It is ridiculous to want to change something that works. BUT then, that is typical of the Left. We were taught if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. IT AIN’T BROKE!!! Go back to sipping your tea and watching Doris Day movies and leave Real Men and Women ALone instead of forcing YOUR beliefs upon us.

      • Doc Sarvis

The Real men and women of other countries have been serving with openly homosexual soldiers with no difficulties. I think enough of our soldiers to know that true American soldiers are more concerned with their duty than the issue of homosexulality. It is an insult to our soldiers to think that they can’t do better what other countries have been able to accomplish.

        • Retired Military

          IT AIN’T BROKE!!

          • Doc Sarvis

            It can be even better!

          • Retired Military

tell me WHY it is better for Tom to say “Hi, I’m your new bunkmate, I’ll be sleeping above you, and by the way I’m Gay.” And what real Benefits is this going to give Tom by openly admitting he’s gay? ANY? other than it just making him FEEL good about it?

          • Doc Sarvis

It is better to know who you are serving with as opposed to wondering who you are serving with.

          • Retired Military

That’s ONE persons opinion. It’s not Mine nor is it anyone’s that I served with that I have spoken with on this matter. It’s also the gay communities words, and words that leftist politicians are scared to dispute because they cater to whiney little minority groups.

        • Retired Military

And Other countries military?? You COMPARE them to the U.S.? Don’t insult us! How many years did you serve Doc and what branch?

          • Doc Sarvis

I’ve answered this question before – that information is classified!

          • Retired Military

Ok, refrain from the branch, how many Years did you serve, or are you still active?

          • Doc Sarvis

You must know that beyond saying that the information is “classified” revealing more information would violate my oath. Besides, that is information that does nothing to further validate my points.

          • Retired Military

I served 20 years 9 months, and held a T.S. Now tell me, HOW the heck is that breaking an Oath? I’ll assume since you won’t tell, the number of years is 0, giving you ZERO experience or understanding of the mental dicipline and stress put upon our troops already, that wondering if Tommy is staring at me every morning when I’m getting dressed because he likes what he sees is NOT an issue that should even be considered as introduced into the environment. It is just Selfish of the extreme minority to even consider introducing a situation that could ultimately cause harm to others, when the situation currently WORKS! YOU are SELFISH

          • Doc Sarvis

Careful, when you assume you make an ……….

I know what my oath says and I follow it everyday as it is my duty to my country.

There are an almost infinite number of “extreme minorities” that make up our military and have since its inception. My training gave me skills, instilled courage to fulfill the mission, and to trust my comrads. I would not trade the training or my fellow soldiers for anything. As I said before, I want to know who is serving with me and not have to wonder.

          • Joe H.

            Retired Military,
It was revealed in an earlier thread that doc served a top secret branch of the Salvation Army. Very hush-hush!!!!

          • Retired Military

Well JOE, I really didn’t want to say this, but here it goes. In the military, we call the medics DOC. And the DOC’s have to do the hold and cough move, you know the one necessary evil we all hate. DOC here says he wants to know WHO the Gays are in the military. One can only assimilate since he says that, when he is giving all those cough tests, and he KNOWs he has him a Gay one, well….lets just say DOC will probably want to be very thorough, and that test will probably last much longer than the normal one. I’m not Sayin..I’m just Sayin.

          • Doc Sarvis

To all of you homophobics; I don’t let fear run my life.

          • Joe H.

            Doc,
            No, only your urges!!!

          • Doc Sarvis

And my urge is to continue to make America greater.

    • keith

bullsh*t!!!as a retired marine,i’m telling you this will go over like lead balloon!this is what they want?unbeleivable!!!makes me sick, homo’s in our military, just sick, you think normal guys are going to tolerate a fag in their midst?hah, yeah right!i saw in okinawa what will happen to em,the comm guys caught one doing the nasty with another homo and from what i heard beat the living crap oughtah them both!this is going to cause a uproar in our units, the service is predominatly filled with macho guys who traditionally distain ANY homo’s and will deal with them appropiately.if they inforce this policy it will mean mass non-reups as the reguler guys are not going to put up with this!!!it’s a disaster ready to happen, mark my words.
just sick and comes from a perverted mind!

It would be wonderful if the homosexuals REPLACE the men in our military, and the lesbians replace the women.

Those people who NOW require special ACCEPTANCE and classification due to their same-sex preferences would have good jobs and be among friends. That way our normal men and women (can we still use that term, normal?) would not be needed to lose their wonderful lives in battles created by our Pentagon and government. The homosexuals would not be increasing our population at home, and we NEED our population to be increased, families to grow.

We as a country, NEED the FATHERS to be at their homes protecting their CHILDREN in our society that is attacking our children in every way; we NEED the MOTHERS to be at their homes for the same purpose. Wives NEED their husbands at home to PROVIDE for and PROTECT their homes and neighborhoods. Children NEED their mothers and/or fathers at home to be the strength of protection and source of guidance in their needs. If there are no children and the normal military personnel are not married, or are married and have no children, WE NEED them to participate in our society with their skills and ABILITIES.

LET the homosexuals HAVE the military. Let them show what they can do on their own. WE NEED a way to prove or debunk the opinions that the homosexuals are unable to fulfill the requirements of the military and combat. This would be a provable method.

ALL the normal military men and women MUST MUST MUST now leave the service and go home… get jobs (DEMAND jobs, they have the right to jobs over any illegal or non-military service person)… HELP US in THIS country to DEFEND US from those who are now attacking our children, our families, our society from within.

DON’T stay and be double stressed by war and companions you are not comfortable with or do not have confidence in. THAT is NOT “doing your duty” – YOU are NOT required to mingle in intimate circumstances with those who see you as sex objects.

There is a horrible war now on the homefront and we NEED you here. Open the military doors for the homosexuals in a manner that they will want to escape their situations within our society and be of value, approval, and acceptance, among their peers in the military.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING??? THEY WANT IT, GIVE THE MILITARY TO THEM, GET OUR NORMAL TROOPS OUT AND BACK WORKING IN OUR SOCIETY. WE NEED YOUR COUNT HERE NOW. IF YOU CAN, HURRY AND GET IN ON THE CENSUS…

    DON’T MISS IT.

    • Joe H.

      Reader,
I’m afraid if we gave total control of the military to the gays we would surely lose this country!!!

  • http://ce Frederick H

Ah yes, the usual hysteria breaks out when someone within the Administration goes out of his way to drag the US (army) out of the friggin’ 19th century and into our modern day and age. Go ask the Afghan people, for instance, whom they prefer, the current very trigger-happy American troops or the Dutch and the Belgians (both allowing gays to enlist) who’re trying to win the hearts and minds of local folk in a really civilized and respectful way. And speaking of “Sex Objects”, do YOU see Women solely or even mainly as Sex Objects? Really?

    • Retired Military

I’d say the Trigger Happy Soldiers. Afghans don’t want a queer “winning their hearts and souls”. They would rather NOBODY be in their country I’m sure. You make it sound like Martha Stewart of Holland is there hanging curtains.

      • Reader

        Thanks for the Martha laugh.
        Closing down for the day.
        thanks everybody.

    • Reader

Frederick, your distain referring to our “friggin” (is that the F word?) 19th century troops, is disrespectful to say the least… remember, they were fighting for you. Freddie, YOU go ask the Afghanistan people your important question, enlist and ask them in person :)

Please note that your accusation about our current troops is “silly” because our troops are NOT “trigger happy” they are well trained sharp shooters. Also, I heard something about the suicide rates in Holland being exceptionally high, not sure about Belgium… so they are doing SOMETHING wrong there.

      • Marc

        http://www.who.int/mental_health/prevention/suicide_rates/en/

It would appear our suicide rate is higher than theirs.

        suicide rates per 100,00 population
        USA 17.7 males 4.5 females
Netherlands (Holland) 11.6 males 5.0 females

And what he had written was

“…the friggin’ 19th century and into our modern day …”
        not
“…our “friggin” (is that the F word?) 19th century troops,…”
        There is a difference.

    • Marc

Like the ‘Sex Objects’ comment…..was thinking along the same lines.

  • Retired Military

Serving as a Gay and SAYING your Gay is two different things. I (heterosexual) served 21years in the service, and we knew of at least two individuals that were gay at my last command for example. They were both good workers, good people everyone got along with, they lived their own private life, but they did not have to SAY they were Gay to receive all the same benefits the rest of the men got.

The military is NOT BurgerKing or WalMart. It requires a tough individual willing to follow a very disciplined atmosphere and ethics while at work. SAYING one is gay gives them NO advantage, but it does stand to interfere with the work atmosphere. You can ORDER a person to do certain things or not say certain things, but you Can NOT make people change how they think. Forcing the MAJORITY to openly accept their Co-worker is gay is Forcefully putting the troops at risk and lowering their capabilities.

The current don’t ask don’t tell has worked fine for 18 years. The truth be known, 95%+ of gays probably aren’t interested in military lifestyle anyways. WHY do we Cater to the very small minority, when it stands to put Hard Working good people at risk?

  • David

Per surveys 27% of the officer corps said they’ll leave the military or not re-up if queers are allowed to run rampant in the military. Per surveys, 10% of the enlisted said they’ll leave the military and another 14% said they likely won’t re-up if DADT is repealed. No military can sustain a 25% loss among their experienced troops and leaders and continue to function effectively. All this to appease a less-than-2%, most of whom actually don’t want to serve but rather, just make a political statement.
And exactly how will they be accomodated? Sticking a homo in the showers with actual men is like sticking a man in the showers with a woman. Same with a dyke in the showers with real women. Somebody will get hurt or killed & I think we know who. How is that “accomodating” people who’ve just chosen to NOT contain their perverted lusts? As it is, they can STILL serve. They just have to leave their fellow soldiers alone and not pursue them sexually. Imiagine THAT!

Per Frederick, (above) the Afghanis prefer the Dutch (etc.) over the Americans? Perhaps…because they’re an ineffective fighting force, unlike the US troops. Frederick, you’re a fool! Afghanis are islamists. Islamists hang queers. enuff said?

Queers want to be in the military for one reason: to have access to the young studs and young women at their physical and sexual peak. There’s no more of a “target-rich” environment than this one. If anybody takes offense at the word “queer” THEY use it, as in “LBQT” so I will too. I won’t have the enemy dictate my choice of words.

    • Reader

Bravo!! You speak the truth, and speak it clearly.

Our troops should not have to deal with this handicap being foisted by our enemies in the Pentagon and government, including the swinging Gate. CLOSE IT DOWN. COME HOME. HELP US HERE, WE ARE IN DANGER FROM WITHIN. JUST THE PRESENCE OF MOST OF OUR TROOPS AS CIVILIANS WILL MAKE A BIG IMPACT ON STOPPING THE IDIOTS RUNNING WILD IN OUR GOVERNMENT. Once the Forces fill with homosexuals we will have a true basis for removing and replacing or leaving them in the Forces.

    • Marc

Could you give a link to those surveys ?

    • Marc

Do you have a link to those surveys ?

  • Marc

‘Someone’ told me that Reader, David, Retired Military and Hank might be gay….should they be investigated and maybe kicked out of something ? After all, third party complaints should be left in, right ? (THIS IS SATIRE FOR THOSE THAT DON’T GET IT)
One of the things that has always bothered me about the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ and removing people who want to serve our country if they do tell……..forcing them to keep it secret just opens them up to possible blackmail…and endangering any military information they might have that a foreign power had an interest in.

    • Doc Sarvis

      Excellent point Marc.

      • Retired Military

        Yeah.welllll..um…Doc, your dumb

        • Marc

          …great response

        • Retired Military

You Inspire me Marc. Sometimes the less you say, the more is said.

    • Retired Military

Wow, using BIG words like SATIRE is really impressive Marc. Hey, you seem like an intelligent person that would just Theorize, UNLESS he had some substantial background information on the statements he makes. So with that said, tell me just how many time there were actual blackmails committed on gay individuals in the military to keep it secret of their sexuality. You can tell me that number can’t you?

You aren’t a very good reader, that’s obvious however. I stated in my first post the two gay individuals that worked at my command were great people. Everyone got along with them. And get THIS..they received EXACTLY the same rights/privileges as their counterparts did WITHOUT announcing “Hi, I’m GAY”. So this GATES policy change would have done ZERO for them, and it will do ZERO for any gay person in the future, except…possibly endanger them…that possibility exists if we’re going to be totally honest. So REAL GOOD on your part to support a policy that makes it worse for Gays. Smart Move!

      • Marc

And just how did you know they were gay ? Or were you just assuming. As to the use of BIG words…notice that your posts have been peppered with them.
When I was in service, they didn’t post me to Germany because I had relatives in what was still the Eastern sector…a possible leverage. I had worked at the Pentagon so did have security clearance high enough to make me of possible interest if I was working in a similar position . I did serve in Vietnam and I did enlist.

        • Retired Military

WOW, HOW do you get away with divulging all that highly classified information, as DOC would put it. And HOW did we know they were Gay? Ummmmm Hello MARC, Earth to Marc…have you ever MET a Gay person? I’m not saying all of them act it, but when they do it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. And because I said “I” knew it, that didn’t mean just me, the entire Command knew it. So Dig and try to read between the lines like a Lefty would(whether your one or not), but it doesn’t change the facts of this columns post. GATE’s is an ignorant inexperienced moron when it comes to Gays in the Military.

And tell me this Marc. Why do you speak a forked tongue? You appear to want to support the Gays being openly known while serving, yet you childishly pick at me with being gay accusations in a slandering way that really is putting down gays. SO which is it? Do you support them or make fun of them?

    • Retired Military

Oh, and Marc…those last two sentences were Sarcasm.

  • Active Military

Okay as a USA 96D with 19 years 9 months of service in and a lot more to go

I can tell you that this is a big topic in service and 90% of the people I talk with about this issue don’t really care about the sexual orientation of the Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, Marine next to them.

All they care about is if they can do their job and carry their weight, professionalism has no relationship to sexual orientation, gender, race, or religion.

    • Marc

Perhaps we should hear from more active military people on this.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that ’90%’ may be a reflection of the views.

    • Retired Military

90 %? 100% of them didn’t care we had 2 gays at my command. It isn’t about their sexual orientation. What they do outside of regular duty is their business. Having them serve Openly Gay leads to MANY other things though. As it is now, don’t ask..don’t tell…nobody really discusses it, yet we all still get along. Once it is in the open, it will be Fair game for a lot of enlisted men. Oh, they will be TOLD not to be mean to the Gays, and they’ll get in trouble for it, but You CAN NOT change a persons beliefs, and it WILL induce trouble. Just like putting women onboard Navy ships, and every deployment big ships have women returning pregnant….Stuff Happens.

My point, the current system works. Let them Work in the military, just don’t talk about it. WHY bring up something that causes no beneficial gain? NONE! It is ASKING for Trouble…period. You can spin this any way you want, trouble will follow.

  • Ed Weirdness

If it’s all about the troops, why not let the troops themselves decide. If gay service personnel insist on insinuating themselves and their views into military units, those military personnel who do not share these same views, should be allowed to resign, immediately, without fear or duress. It only seems fair that is the military leadership see’s fit to oppress our military men and women with their ridiculous ‘political correctness’ policies, then those not disposed to put up with this nonsense should be allowed to honorable withdraw from further military service. I can imagine that political correctness of this sort will spell the end to our all volunteer military in very short order, and perhaps that’s what they were going for anyway, a return to compulsory military service.

  • Ellen

Thank-You to our REAL Military Men, again I say Thanks! I come with a lot of military loved-ones and WHAT we are there for and who, what we are protecting is of the utmost importance.
SEXUAL prefrence, SHUT-UP and pay attention on the reality and morals of life! This gay-bit and liasbians sickos are SICK & SICKLY, pushed down our throats like the healthcare was shoved down our throats. Has everyone lost there ability to live a good clean life? Have we lost our ability to enjoy life?

  • Ed Weirdness

Seriously, if ‘blackmail’, being outed by a third party were of true concern, don’t ask, don’t tell could have been left intact, and rules regarding ‘third party disclosures’ put in place. Obviously, this might place a burden on military physicians where STD and AIDS would of necessity require reporting. Funny how, if your part of the heterosexual military, there are all sorts of regulations and contrivances, and a tradition of dignity that preclude non-gay service personnel from outwardly professing their sexuality. Indeed fraternization in certain settings will get your butt a court martial.

  • Miguel Saavadera

Basically Gates is ‘Nullifying’ the current congressional law by setting the bar so high, removing witnesses, and/or intimidating wittinesses that no one is going to fulfill the second leg of “Don’t Ask (recruiter), Don’t tell (Dr, Lawyers, Clergymen and the everyday witnesses).

Basically PC in trying to ‘kowtow’ to the President.

  • kate8

All I want to know is, when is our military going to pay a visit to
the usurper-in-chief and protect us here at home. We are infested with enemies, both foreign and domestic, and unless we the people can
muster up some muscle, we are toast.

None of those in power are honoring our Constitution, to which they
all pledged their oaths. Of course, no enemy is going to honor that
pledge, so we need our heros. But they have them getting thinned out
in the middle east, so we are all sitting ducks at home.

What we’ve got here are a few hundred thousand UN soldiers at Obama’s
beck and call, just waiting for the word from him.

Wouldn’t blame the guys for not wanting to protect some of us.

    • Marc

“What we’ve got here are a few hundred thousand UN soldiers at Obama’s
beck and call, just waiting for the word from him.” Where are they ?

  • Marc

“when President Harry Truman ordered the military to integrate, only 13 percent of the troops supported his decision and General Omar Bradley told him it would ruin the Army.”

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lawrence-korb/now-is-the-time-for-gates_b_519061.html

Do you disagee with Truman’s decision on this one or did it “ruin the Army” .

    • Retired Military

LMAO!!! You are as misguided as the Korb who you quoted that line from. What the hell’s RACE gotta do with Sexual Preference? That is truly the Apples and Oranges reference if I ever heard it. MAN! you liberals have issues, and if your aren’t a liberal you should be for you think like one. If you can make ANY reference to the integrated troops, it’s also ignorant because that was when?…6 + decades ago? The world has grown a lot since then, and gotten a lot wiser. Which is WHY Gay’s don’t serve openly in the military NOW. Well, not until a Liberal Idiot took the plea from an extremely small minority of GAY PEOPLE THAT WANT TO SERVE IN THE MILITARY. That is almost an OxyMoron, with most gays being either liberal or just war haters, yet we have the ones wanting to serve, and NOW here we have them ALL overlooking the War issue, but just focusing on making sure Tommy can say “Hi, I’m Tommy, I’ll be your new bunkmate, and I’m Gay…Nice Abs you have by the way” It’s ALL about the cuddling the minorities for the liberals.

“If you can make ANY reference to the integrated troops, it’s also ignorant because that was when?…6 + decades ago? The world has grown a lot since then, and gotten a lot wiser.”

And in 6+ decades from now might we have grown and gotten a lot wiser? I don’t believe we are at the apex of our development on this moment of this day.

What, Marc. You expect to see them waving flags in the streets?

How do I know where they are lodging? Probably manning FEMA camps,
going on maneuvers beyond the public eye.

Everything Obama does he does in secret. That’s how snakes operate.

Concur on the SNAKE statement. Trained in Chicago Politics. Elections have repercussions, and man oh man does this one ever!!! We can only pray we’ll make it to 2012 before he bankrupts us.

      “April 1984
April 5-13: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in association with 34 other US government agencies, holds an exercise dubbed REX-84, shorthand for Readiness Exercise 1984. A related exercise, Night Train 84, is held simultaneously. The exercise is primarily to see how quickly and efficiently the US can declare martial law and round up and detain tens of thousands of dissident citizens in case of a “national security emergency.” ……….. In April 2002, Garden Plot will be considered one of the major emergency plans for use by the Department of Homeland Security; plans to build numerous detention camps across America, putatively for a massive and chaotic influx of illegal immigrants, will be contracted to oil and construction giant Halliburton. So that was under President Ronald Reagan and President George Bush.
It was ok for Republican Administrations ?
You’d think someone would notice ” a few hundred thousand UN soldiers “

  • Seriously

One question…Gates is SO for this terrible new Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy…IS HE GAY HIMSELF???? MUST BE!! Some straight females in the military are ALREADY being harassed by certain gay females. This policy is just going to make it WORSE now!

    • Marc

Does his family think he is ? This is the only place (this site) I’ve seen that commented on. commenthttp://marriage.about.com/od/politics/p/robertgates.htm

    • Doc Sarvis

And a lot of straight females continue to be harrassed by males. Those who do not have the discipline to conduct themselves correctly should be punished or washed out.

  • HHH

Hey Retired Military… when did you have the labotomy??? And to the others… show the evidence of your claims…..

    • Marc

That’s why I try to supply the sources of information that I put on here….is it all correct ? Can’t really know but it’s better than spouting figures without backing it up just a little.

  • kate8

Retired Military, there are more of us out here who respect you than there are those who do not.

I believe that you are a man of honor. I’m sorry that after years of service, this nation has come to where we are today: The very thing
that you served to protect us from.

While our men and women serve overseas, we are sold out here at home.
I hope you don’t feel that it was all for naught. There are millions
of us that will stand shoulder to shoulder with you and every other
military person who refuses to turn against the principles for which
    America has always stood.

    Godspeed.

  • john

i hate to alarm anyone but people are people. a stupid person once asked me if i was homosexial and i said no iam baptist. i myself believe the only time a peson is gay or straight or what ever their into is when performing in sex itself. any other time we are just people trying to live out our lives till the lord takes us. people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. by the way, there has been gay people in our service way before this crap all started. thats my story and iam sticking to it

    • Joe H.

      john,
Yes, there have been gays in the military for a long time, but you miss the point. They haven’t been OPENLY gay. In other words, they haven’t FLAUNTED the fact!!!!

      • john

even if i was gay even though iam not i dont believe people would just for the hell of it say,OH LOOK IAM A FAG which is in real terms a pile of wood. i believe people will continue to do their job in the military just has most jobs without still screaming iam a fag. remember, just about every family has a gay person especially large familys or with their ralatives. NOTHING NEW ABOUT THIS. its been here since day one

      • keith

not if they wanted to remain healthy and w/o broken bones are worse!

        • Marc

do you always attack what scares you?

  • http://ce Frederick H

Dear folks, ever since the USA decided THEY had to solve the world’s military problems oversees, gays have been part of the game and they still are. The only point being that nobody straight was supposed to know who was who. Now that the Obama administration wants to break with this TOTAlly HYPOCRITICAL state of affairs, the conservatives start screaming their heads off. So typical!!! More than TWENTY COUNTRIES around the globe are allowing openly gays to enlist nowadays. No complaints over there, no corruption of nicely hetero military men. So, only in backward conservative America this whole thing will count as a major issue, of course. Talk about primitive thinking and lame provincialism. Ugh!

    • john

fred your right. us americans want to seal ourselfs in this imaginary box because if it has nothing to do with me just leave me the hell alone. it seems everybody cant tolerate anything that doesnt pertain to them. we as a people are so fast to judge, I try very hard to leave that to the lord. we all have to answer. also if any one has any religion in their bones i hav yet to find anything JESUS said any thing about gays or otherwise in the new testament. if iam wrong please set me straight.

      • Marc

There are references to it in the Bible..do an internet search…although do not know of any remarks specifically attributed to Jesus. Also be aware that various versions of the Bible seem to translate it somewhat differently. ( King James Version, Revised Standard Version, Phillips Modern English, New English Bible Version, possibly others )

        • john

marc i dont need the internet to look up information that is all ready in the bible. the only place i know of is in the old testament. there is nothing in the new testament refering to homosexuals or bisexuals or any other sexuals that we probubly can make up. we are good on that. the lord Jesus foregave us of our sins as long as we repent

          • Marc

There are sections in the New Testament that refer to it and are said to be Disciples speaking “in His authority” as I believe they call it.

  • http://bori_cuba@bellsouth.net Al-70

To all AMERICA: Please understand we have more important problems in Wash. DC than the subject of he want to be she and she want to be he. The gays should seek help in the mind first.

  • Active Military

Most of the time (at least in the enlisted ranks) everyone knows who is gay in the unit.

Some people seem to be under this false impression that lifting DADT will suddenly turn homosexuals into raging/rampaging flaunter, and that they will suddenly be hitting on everyone that moves. Regardless of sexual orientation usually the only ones throwing their sexuality in other peoples faces are the ones that are insecure with themselves.

Take a walk if you can through a military office or barracks, you will see pictures on desks, walls ect. of (all the straights) family, boy/girl friends. They (family, boy/girl friends) get to come to unit events, picnics, greet and wave goodbye to their spouses for deployments.

Because of good ole DADT if your homosexual you can’t do any of that, unless you want to be kicked out of the service. So tell me how that is a good policy?

If DADT is lifted will there be some harassment, odds are yes, after all you have phobics of all types and those that attack anything they don’t understand or agree with. But if the leadership from the NCO up does their job it won’t last, and the ones that don’t do their jobs will get discharged or leave the service.

    • Joe H.

Don’t think that the harrasment won’t continue. With the constant influx of new troops, it will continue. take a combat situation, all it would take is one instance of hesitation on the part of a soldier to a gay platoon leader or platoon sargent to cause the deaths of a whole platoon! I realize that they would courtmartial the troop buyt it would then be too late, the damage would be done!!!!

    • keith

whoo-boy,john wayne would just shoot em all like dogs!!!

  • http://Verizon.net Bud Grounds

Doc: I held one of the highest clearance/access one could hold in the U.S. Government and my actual job was not reflected that way in my military records. To this day I cannot travel to a communist bloc country without State Department authorization. Nowhere does it tell me that I could not state how many years I served, I just could not even tell my wife what my actual job was. Was yours in the U.S. Military or civilian department or are you talking about service to another country?

Regarding gays in the military. I had no problems with gays in a work environment although I almost got blown up in basic training when a gay dropped a grenade instead of throwing it over the wall. I managed to get just far enough away and received only cuts from the blast and hearing loss for a time. In Viet Nam during the TET Offensive, a gay freaked and started spraying fire in all directions. This is not to say that a person who is not gay wouldn’t do the same as we had shell shocks from battle that did this as well. I don’t think anybody actually knows how they will react in a combat situation until they experience it. Anxiety and adrenalin levels rise markedly.

Blackmail is not an issue as this could be reported without repercussion but I believe the policy in effect is the best way. Being caught in the overt act, not mannerisms or speech, should be the only reason gays are forced out. The military is a different environment and expect there will be issues if a gay person does push the envelope with an openly gay policy. I have friends who are gay but we don’t discuss our feelings on the subject out of mutual respect
that our private lives are our own business.

Wow! Sure is a lit of closed minded thinking on here in response to the support for repealing DADT. I consider myself a conservative libertarian, I was front and center last month on Capitol Hill with other Tea Partiers protesting on the weekend that the health care bill was passed, but the kind of talk on this post and the replies really go against the tru. Libertarian spirit or ideal–shame on you! I say, if someone is willing to serve and die for this country let them do so without having to lie about their sexuality. Honestly, is a fairy gay boy signs up to join the military for the cute boys then he isn’t going to make it through boot camp, but if a true guy is joining to honor and defend this great country, he’s going to prove himself through boot camp regardless whether he is gay or straight. Gays are already serving and putting their lives on the line, let’s respect the work they are doing and their sacrifice and honor them by saying you will still be respected for what you do and not judged based upon a part, let me reiterate that, a part of who they are. God Bless America and our troops–straight and gay.
