Franklin Warned Us Of Fools Like McConnell

Benjamin Franklin, apparently paraphrasing Plato, once said, “Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.”

Foolishness must be what prompted Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to kick his fellow GOP negotiators in the gut Tuesday with his announcement of a fallback plan to grant President Barack Obama the power to raise the debt limit on his own.

By signaling a willingness to surrender in the middle of negotiations, McConnell weakened the hand held by Republicans like Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who are at least going through the motions of trying to cut government spending. Statements — and unconditional surrenders — like that drive Tea Party members crazy. Or, as Michelle Malkin blogged, make them want to bang their heads against the wall.

McConnell is a fool and a big government tool and he’s one of many RINO Republicans who need to go. Unfortunately, his term runs until 2014, so we’re stuck with him for a while. That Senate Republicans would elevate McConnell to the leadership position demonstrates they still don’t get it.
