‘Frankenfoods’ for dinner?

September 22, 2008 by

Do you know where your food comes from?Genetically engineered (GE) animals could be on their way to a dinner table near you soon, following new guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA has published proposed rules for how it plans to regulate producers of genetically modified foods – labeled "frankenfoods" by some critics – who are marketing their products for public consumption.

Scientists create GE animals by inserting the gene from one species into the DNA of another. In doing this, they aim to create superior breeds that are resistant to disease, can grow faster or contain more nutrients.

However, some have raised questions about the role of science to interfere with nature – and now there are concerns that the public may not even be aware of where their food comes from.

It came as a surprise to some consumer groups that the FDA is not planning to label many products to differentiate them from conventional meat.

"It is incomprehensible to us that FDA does not view these animals differently from their conventional counterparts," commented Jean Halloran of the Consumers Union.

She added that people have a "right to know" if they are eating a product derived from "pigs that have been engineered with mouse genes."

Sorry to take so long to get back to you…I bookmarked this but never looked again.

I was eating for years at a restaurant that used canola oil liberally in it’s cooking. Every day, I’d leave there with sniffles and sneezing, which would clear up after about ten minutes. Thiskind of made me wonder, but didn’t bother me all that much. Then for another reason, I stopped eating there.

Before I explain what happened, I have to say, I had very healthy hair as a young person, but am now 64, and have been losing hair for years. I thought this was natural, having to clean out the drain of the shower every day of hair that almost blocked the drain if I didn’t do it regularly.

Then, I stopped eating at this particular restaurant, and about two weeks later, I noticed there was NO MORE HAIR in the drain every day! What the heck? What could have been the cause of that? I then recalled that I wasn’t eating at this restaurant here in Los Angeles, that liberally used canola oil in all it’s frying of eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, etc. And I tell you the absolute truth, NOT ONE HAIR has been visible in the drain every day now for over two months!

To be fair, I haven’t found another restaurant nearby that I favor, so have been eating at home, but do occasionally go out to other restaurants, and there still eat eggs, potatoes, bacon or sausage, mostly rye toast.

But personally, I think it was the genetically-modified canola oil.

I stopped eating at a particular restaurant that used GMO-Canola oil to cook with, and I stopped losing hair! Try it yourself if you see hair in the drain after showering. I thought that was normal until it stopped. Could it be that it was a steady diet of GMO foods that was causing this?
