Film Documents A Year Of Eating Local Food

A film premiering next month at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, chronicles an Alabama couple’s attempt to live for a year on food grown only in their home State.

The documentary, “Eating Alabama,” could serve as a valuable crash course for Americans who are concerned about the increasingly nutrient lacking and unnatural nature of mass-produced foodstuffs.

Andrew Grace, the filmmaker, and his wife, Rashmi, declined to buy foods that had been sold into the mainstream food processing and manufacturing system. According to The Birmingham News, the couple crisscrossed the State meeting with farmers and trying to understand where their food came from.

The couple’s focus throughout the filming of the documentary was to eat local and seasonal foods, and to put away what they would need during the winter months. Grace and his wife grew their own garden and tried different things like raising chickens and hunting for meat in addition to buying local farm goods.
