Whoopi Goldberg wants people to start using the N-word.

The controversy over the word has come to the forefront in media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case. Recently, CNN reporters have used the word during live broadcasts.

CNN’s Don Lemon wants reporters to use the word if they are quoting what has been said by others. He thinks “the N-word” softens it. Goldberg agrees.

On ABC’s “The View,” Goldberg weighed in on the situation:

Do not eliminate it. It’s part of our history. Every time people try to sort of make it sound better or more acceptable, let’s call it what it is.

I am bleeped, ever since the word was buried, you know, there was a whole ceremony with a whole funeral — people buried it. Ever since then, you cannot say the word on television. …It’s part of the culture. Let us speak on it and say this is what it is.

Goldberg was bleeped when she used the word on ABC’s broadcast.
