Feds Argue For Treatment Of Loughner

TUCSON, Aug. 11 (UPI) — Prosecutors in the Tucson shooting case that left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords wounded say prison officials have the right to medicate suspect Jared Lee Loughner.

In a brief to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, federal prosecutors argued an inmate awaiting trial can be medicated to reduce their dangerousness, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

The brief was filed in response to a defense argument filed for Loughner on July 27 saying prison officials needed a court order before forcing him to take anti-psychotic drugs that could also render him competent to stand trial.

Loughner, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, is charged in the Jan. 8 shooting spree that left six people dead and 13 wounded, including Giffords.

The appeals court set an Aug. 30 date for oral arguments on the issue in San Francisco.

I find it suspicious how quickly Loughner was doped up and declared incompetent to stand trial. It looks as if the feds don’t want anyone to hear what he might have to say when questioned about the shootings. It is also curious how Rep. Giffords immediately became the focal point of nearly all media coverage, even to the near exclusion of the other victims. Whatever little mention there was of the sightings of Loughner being shown around the site and dropped off there before the shootings was dropped quickly and quietly, and I don’t believe it ever was mentioned in that coverage that Judge Roll, one of those killed in the attack, had ruled just three days earlier against the Obama administration’s reported attempts to nationalize all or part of our retirement accounts. That would have potentially provided the federal government access to several trillion more dollars to steal and replace with worthless IOUs like they have done with the Social Security trust fund and other monies they have stewardship over. That, and the idiot sheriff Dupnik bloviating about the heated political rhetoric and blaming conservatives critics of the administration for the violence almost before the shell casings finished hitting the ground have me smelling a conspiracy. We’ve heard of Dupnik again since the Tucson shootings: his SWAT team hosed an ex-Marine in his own house and kept the EMTs from treating him for over an hour while he bled out from 60 gunshot wounds, but he refuses to comment until his department wraps up their investigation. His shooters initially tried to claim self-defense until it was revealed the two-tour combat veteran still had the safety engaged on his AR-15 when he was killed. Keep your eyes open step carefully-life in a police state is not going to be pleasant.
