FBI Deals With ‘Rash’ Of Employee Sexting

WASHINGTON, (UPI) —  An internal report shows widespread “sexting” among FBI employees around the United States, CNN reported Friday.

An official said the agency distributed the report, like other quarterly disciplinary reports, in hopes employees will mend their ways.

Assistant Director Candice Will described the recent activity as a “rash of sexting cases.”

“When you are given an FBI BlackBerry, it’s for official use,” she told CNN. “It’s not to text the woman in another office who you found attractive or to send a picture of yourself in a state of undress. That is not why we provide you an FBI BlackBerry.”

CNN obtained a number of reports going back several years. The reports do not list names or job titles but do give detailed descriptions of conduct that has led to dismissal, suspensions or other disciplinary action.

About 36,000 people work for the FBI. The reports showed 1,045 were disciplined between 2010 and 2012, including 85 who were fired.

Those who were dismissed included a female employee who got involved with and eventually married a drug dealer, a male employee who refused to turn over his gun when police responded to a domestic dispute at his mistress’ apartment, an employee who used a lost or stolen check card to buy gas and an employee who secretly taped a supervisor and rifled through the supervisor’s briefcase.
