Fast And Furious Investigation Continues

Fast And Furious Investigation Continues

The first convictions in the Department of Justice’s fatally flawed Fast and Furious gunwalking scheme were made in a Federal court on Monday; the investigation into the operation continues.

Jacob Wayne Chambers and Jacob Anthony Montelongo each pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge, and Montelongo also pleaded guilty to dealing guns without a license, according to The Associated Press.

The pair admitted that they were part of a 20-person smuggling ring that trafficked guns to Mexico for the Sinaloa drug cartel.

Chambers bought 79 guns from “straw” dealers in Arizona between September 2009 and December 2009 and got paid $50 for each AK-47 and $100 for a .50-caliber rifle he sold to the cartel. Montelongo purchased 109 guns in Arizona from January 2010 to July 2010 and was paid $50 for pistols, $100 for rifles and $150 each for six .50-caliber rifles.

The two face up to five years in prison and a fine as high as $250,000 when they are sentenced in May.

The convictions come as Congressional Republicans, led by House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), continue their probe into Justice Department officials’ knowledge of the operation. On Monday, Issa cried foul when Patrick Cunningham, the chief of the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Arizona, was excused from a deposition when he refused to give more than his name and title after saying last week that he would not testify and did not have to according to the 5th Amendment.

According to Fox News, Issa speculated that Cunningham’s dodging testimony about the operation was “a major escalation of the department’s culpability” in a letter he wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder.

Also this week, Republicans in the Arizona Legislature formed their own committee to investigate Fast and Furious. U.S. Attorney for Arizona Dennis Burke was fired due to fallout surrounding the scandal, and the lawmakers hope to learn more about the impact that Fast and Furious had on their State, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

It’s about time. Keep the ball rolling now, all the way to the WH!

    • Vigilant

As expected, the lowest level of criminals get it first, the runners. It remains to be seen whether the higher ups will suffer justice.

It would be interesting to see, given Obama’s complete disregard for the Constitution, whether he will pardon Holder for all crimes he’s convicted of AFTER Obama leaves office

      • Vigilant

“The first convictions in the Department of Justice’s fatally flawed Fast and Furious gunwalking scheme were made in a Federal court on Monday.”

How ironic that Federal lawyers from the Dept. of Justice prosecuted the case. So it was the Attorney General’s own people who dropped the hammer on the criminals. That, to me, is the height of hypocrisy.

        • mqira

I can see it now…..Obama gives full pardon to all these people, Eric Holder ends up with a show on Fox in 5 years!

Sounds a bit like the Iran-Contra affair! ALL were pardoned, the only one who went to jail was a citizen protesting the scandal, by taking a street sign named after John Poindexter: see below

“In Poindexter’s hometown of Odon, Indiana, a street was renamed to John Poindexter Street. Bill Breeden, a former minister, stole the street’s sign in protest of the Iran-Contra Affair. He claimed that he was holding it for a ransom of $30 million, in reference to the amount of money given to Iran to transfer to the Contras. He was later arrested and confined to prison, making him, as satirically noted by Howard Zinn, “the only person to be imprisoned as a result of the Iran-Contra Scandal.”[93]

      Book ‘em, Dan-o !

Whats disgusting about this whole thing is, that as long as obama is president he can protect eric holder. After that the whole thing will go away. If another president gets elected in 2012, iSSa should continue and jail the whole bunch of them. The sorriest thing is obama was probably involved also!!!!!

    • JUKEBOX

If the new Republican Justice Department would pardon these convicted men for their testimony, I believe you might get all the way to the top.

      • vicki

They would not know anything to testify to.

  • Sirian

This is but another chapter of the story that is gradually coming into the light. Next page please. . .

    • Vigilant

I truly wonder whether anything substantive will come out of this. AG John Mitchell’s post-Watergate prison sentence was for crimes that pale into insignificance when compared with the excesses of the current AG.

If Obama does not offload Holder before the election, it will show just how desensitized we have become to high crimes and misdemeanors at the highest levels of government.

But after Clinton was not convicted for a proven case of perjury, what else could we expect?

      • ChristyK

Obama will continue to protect Holder because Holder knows that Obama was involved in the whole thing. If Obama abandons Holder, Holder will squeal. They are defending each other because it is their only hope.

  • Jimmy

5 years isn’t nearly enough they should get at least 1 year for every gun they purchased/sold!!!!!

  • David in MA

Can obozo free them before he himself goes to jail?
(Or will he want familure faces around him at Gitmo?)

  • Steve

Please don’t tell us that U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke was fired.

He stepped down. Now, he and his family will collect his pension and health care benefits( Major Medical, Prescription, Eye & Dental Care) for the rest of his life.

More than likely he received a lump sum pay-out for his unused sick time, as part of his golden parachute.

Burke should be prosecuted under the Rico statutes for running a continually profiting criminal enterprise.

If anyone who’s last name ended in a vowel did this, the Justice Department would be all over it.

This Justice Department is filled with scumbags and they should all be in jail – not putting other people there.

  • BOB REIN

yep!!!!! the ball is rolling…the problem is it isn.t rolling up hill……if anyone out there thinks that any high ranking official at A.T.F. , the Justice Department or the WhiteHouse, is actually going to prosecuted and sent to jail for their criminal involvement in operation “fast & furious” , is either smoking crack cocaine or is from another planet…They are refusing to turn over documents and to testify and hiding behind the fifth amendment. Who is going to prosecute them???? The justice Department!!! The mainstream media (a mouth piece for this administration) as usual, remains silent and refuses to inform the American public who, for the most part, think “fast and furious” is a new video game or movie… Our A.T.F. agents were murdered and hundreds of Mexican citizens were gunned down with these weapons. All were “collateral damage” of a scheme devised by this administration to further their desire to obtain a tighter grip on the second amendment and gun control….This scheme was initiated from the start to convince the American public that tighter gun control was needed to stop the flow of firearms into the hands of the Mexican Drug Cartels. If you will do your research you will discover that Obama, Hillary, and Holder were all pushing for increased gun control using the fabricated scenario that all these weapons that were going to the drug cartels were coming from the United States, contrary to prior intelligence information that they were not. The gun dealers in the United States were told by the Justice Department to sell the guns, field agents of the ATF etc. when questioning the sanity of this operation were told to “stand down” (shut up) or be transferred. None of these firearms could be tracked once in Mexico , so from a law enforcement standpoint, this operation made no sense…but from a political standpoint is was a “masterpiece”…Everything was proceeding as planned until a few brave and honorable field agents in the ATF “blew the whistle”, and exposed this travesty ….Their reward was forced retirement, threats and demotion…Higher ATF officials that were co-conspirators of this administration were promoted and transferred to Washington. So when this “dog and pony show” is over a few suspects who actually bought the guns and sold the guns will be prosecuted, maybe a few low ranking officials will receive a reprimand, and the business of breaking down the United States Constitution and enslaving the American people will continue…God save us and this Republic from the criminals within.

If anyone hasn’t managed to figure it out yet, it’s a) America or b) Obummer and Holder. I choose America. Obummer and his stooge can have free passage to any country that’s retarded enough to want them.

    • Honestly

Retarded is not a very nice word to use considering there are people in this country that really are retarded and they do have feelings. Maybe a better word could be used in the future.

  • Jimmy the Greek

Them boys were working cheap ! if i were to sell a gun i would want $1,000. markup for a pistol and $2,000. mark up for a AK-47 and i dam sure would not get the guns at a gun dealer or have my ID used in any of the buys them boys are stupid .

    • JUKEBOX

They were probably promised immunity by their ATF or JD handlers, then were doublecrossed.

    • eddie47d

Why do you always provide us with assumptions Jukebox instead of hard facts? Your lack of credibility is always incredible. I see nothing wrong with going after Holder and I say make them all accountable. That includes any gun dealer in America who breaks the law, sells under the table, sells to straw buyers, causes a death from that illegal purchase or otherwise is a crook themselves. Time to make them responsible or close them down.

      • vicki

They (Licensed Firearms Dealers) were responsible citizens. They were going to refuse to sell till the GOVERNMENT told them to go ahead.

      • eddie47d

There is more than this government deal that went bad that puts weapons in the pipeline.

      • Dennis48e

eddie knows he cannot get to the gun owners so he has to blame the dealers and hope to close them down. If there were just half as many bad dealers as eddie implies the courts would be clogged with cases involving them.

      • JC

The greatest underlying truth of this whole thing is that it was staged to bring in stricter gun control. That’s the real crime.
Why would these cartels with literally “billions” at their disposal need to smuggle their guns in from Fred’s Sporting Goods, when they can fly in 747′s full of any kind of armament you can think of from the eastern bloc?
The very premise that America is responsible is ridiculous on its face.

  • BGinTN

Is This How Governors Are Respected By Obama?

Or How Much Respect He Has For The People of Arizonia?

    http://conservativebyte.com/2012/01/obama-brewer-have-tense-exchange-in-arizona/

Did I see correctly, he just rudely walked away from her.
Arizonia, how are you fgoing to vote in 2012?

    • BGinTN

      “going”, sorry.

    • JUKEBOX

He just proved what a narcisistic, egotistical SOB he really is.

  • Robert

Semms like all the people who are appointed Attorney General for the United States turn to sh-eet. This also happened to Gonzales under the Bush Admin. They all should be held accountable. But then again, the more power you are entrusted with, the less you have to worry about being prosecuted for crimes that the rest of us peons would be in prisoned for for years.

  • Kerry

When will the congress impeach the Attorney General Eric Holder? Since he sealed everything on Obama’s records he must be impeached to open them and give Obama a treason trial followed by a good ol American Firing squad and shoot this Kenyan muslim, queer, crack smoking, Kaffer, Dead, Dead, Dead!!!!!!!

    • Realist

Let’s hope DHS doesn’t start tracking ips with the above comment.

  • PATRIOT 101

“Botched Gunrunning Operation” !?!? This is what this is constantly called by FOX NEWS. It is actually a criminal enterprise that stretches from Mexico to the White House!
Americans will never be told the truth on this scandal, and when (and if)they are, the people that would have cared will be dead of old age, or in Prison camps.

  • Les

I know, lets water board Patrick Cunningham, enhanced interrogations worked really well to get information from known terrorists and since we all know it’s not really torture, why not try it out on someone we know is hiding the truth. rotflmao

  • lee

They are the ones creating all kinds of problems with guns and crime. The whole administration is above the law.The polititions in office are supposed to be working for we the people, and to abide, and uphold the constitution of the USA. instead they want to change it to fit thier agenda. Its a shame.thanks… Lee

  • Terry Elliott

I hope they fire this racist little punk, then indict him, prosecute him, find him guilty & incarcerate his sorry black ass!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kathryn

They want to take away our second amendment rights while selling 50 cals to the Mexican drug dealers for $ 150.00, next they’ll be using this as a poster child for why stupid Americans don’t need guns only the federal government, military and cops do. Law abiding citizens aren’t the ones out here selling guns to druggies and robbing people. Why don’t you idiots go after the criminals instead of the taxpayers, that by the way pay your salaries. We need to go on a firing spree in DC. and our cities. Fire them all and start over fresh. It would fill some prison space, but we’d still save money in the long run on not being screwed by these people daily.
