FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., (UPI) – Authorities in Florida said photos on a convicted felon’s Facebook page led to his arrest on firearms charges.
Alain Ramirez, 28, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Wednesday.
Federal agents said Ramirez was arrested this year when they received a tip he was possessing firearms, despite being banned due to a 2008 conviction for felony burglary.
Agents looked at Ramirez’s Facebook page and discovered photos of him posing with firearms at his mother’s Margate home in 2011 and firing a pistol last year at a gun range in Pembroke Park.
Ramirez is due to be sentenced Sept. 20 and faces as much as 20 years in prison.
