Experts recommend vitamin K for digestive health Among the alphabet of vitamins that exist, few people are aware of the vital role that vitamin K plays in overall health. However, as new research continues to emerge, nutrition experts are recommending that more individuals increase their intake of this vital nutrient.

Vitamin K is central to digestive health. It plays an important role in the absorption of other key vitamins and miners such as fatty acids, which have been shown to support heart health, and calcium, which is critical to bone health, according to research from Oregon State University.

Ann Carey Tobin, registered family physician in Albany, N.Y., recently wrote an article in the Times-Union about the benefit of Vitamin K. She said that, by increasing digestive health and the absorption of other key nutrients, the vitamin could help seniors support their bone health as they age.

Oregon State researchers say that deficiencies of vitamin K may be rare, but that individuals can reduce their chances of experiencing low levels by eating more dark green, leafy vegetables or taking nutritional supplements.

    I think any article or ad touting vitamin K should also warn that people taking Coumadin [Warfarin] should not take this vitamin or foods containing it since it will definitely interfere with this medicine.

      You are so right. Be very careful taking this vitemin because it is used in some patients to make their blood clot ! People with artery clogging problems should be very careful or stay away from it altogether. Check with your local health food store to find other nutrients as good for you if not better for your particular situation. I would just eat dark green leafy veggies and not use a suppliment of this because it is too easy to get too much when doing this on your own. If you are taking a blood thinner you do not want to take anything to cause your blood to clot. Simply eating greens is much better for most people.

      At the same time, the Vitamin k for kids would make their blood so thick, you would have to take a spoon to get a sample.

      I was looking a little myself and found this info – so just go buy some of these vegetables and you’re good to go!

      Instead of taking this suppliment I would recommend that you try vitamin D3 and durring the flu season take Olive Leaf extract. It is marvelous. Start now to get it built up in your system before the cold and flu season gets a good start. Also if you are having problems with digestion try using Papine tabs with your meal! They work good and are nothard on the body. I have forund that most of us today are deficient in vitamin D3. We sit in houses in the hot weather and are all bundled up in the cold weather or we work inside during any weather so we don’t get the sun on us that we need. If you start taking the vitamin D3 everyday and during the cold and flu season you take Olive Leaf extract You will be pleasantly surprised at how much better your immune system is working, but it doesn’t happen over night it takes time so get started now and in five or six months let me know if you don’t notice a big difference. A lot of people are afraid they will get and over dose of vitamin D but that is not the case. Use your head and take just one a day and you will be good to go.

    VIT. K CAN BE FOUND IN THE CENTRUM VITAMINS. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE STRAIGHT VIT. K ANYWHERE ELSE OTHER THAN A PRESCRIPTION. THERE ARE DIFFERENT CENTRUM VITAMINS FOR MEN AND WOMEN, AND JUST ANYONE. CHECK THE STRENGHT OF THE VITAMIN K ON EACH BEFORE PURCHASING.
