Employer Fires 22 Workers In Wake Of Obama Election

Employer Fires 22 Workers In Wake Of Obama Election
PHOTOS.COM

In October, David Siegel, owner of Westgate Resorts, emailed his employees to tell them that if President Barack Obama is re-elected and raises taxes, Siegel will have to lay off workers, downsize his company and possibly even shut down.

Now a Las Vegas employer called “David” has fired 22 of his 114 employees as a result of Obama’s election. Westgate has properties in Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and Nevada (two) and employs 7,000 people. In 2007, it employed 12,000. It’s unclear if the “David” who called into a Las Vegas radio station is Siegel.

“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional healthcare I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner,” David said.

“Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive. I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come.”

He predicted a rash of layoffs in coming months by other companies across the country as a result of Obamacare and increased taxes and regulations.

THIS ARTICLE ILLUSTRATES THE “DIVIDE” BETWEEN BUSINESS AND REPUBLICAN IDEALS VERSUS POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT.

POOR PEOPLE DO NOT CARE IF BUSINESS OWNERS HAVE TO PAY MORE TAXES. TO LAY PEOPLE OFF TELLS POOR PEOPLE THAT BUSINESS OWNER IS “CHEAP” AND “GREEDY” FOR PROFIT.

PEOPLE LIKE, David Siegel, PROVIDE “CRAFTY” DEMOCRATS WITH THE AMMUNITION NEEDED TO “BRAINWASH” THE POOR AND MISINFORMED.

The cost of health care was going up out of control for decades before this election.

It isn’t just greed. It’s CONTROL of the workforce. If people can be insured reaonably without having an employer the only surce for insurance people are more free in America.

Just another aspect of corporate control in America.

You didn’t excel in mathematics in school, did you, RS? Obamacare will decrease our freedom by requiring the working taxpayers to foot the bill for the 47%. Take away my property to redistribute it and you have reduced freedom. You leftists DO understand this, but won’t admit it.

You want to talk about CONTROL of the workforce? Look to Obamacare and you need look no further.

That is nothing more than your predictions based on your hatred of Obamacare, it has not taken effect as yet so you actually do jot know that. CBO predicates a trillion dollar or more savings for the ten years after supplementation. In effect now in Obamacare is the limitation on insurance overhead to 15 & 20% , if they are greater they have to be refunded to the person paying for the insurance premium and much was refunded this year. Before overhead was 25-40%,sure looks like savings to me, simple arithmetic, can you add & subtract? The law is entitled “The affordable care act” Time will prove you wrong. We need to do more on costs though but this is a very good start and without Obama nothing would have changed and cost would have continued its obscene increases in premiums and all know something had to be done and it was to bad that GOP did not cooperate and share in the credit. It will be better but not still good enough.

      • Vigilant

Smilee says, “CBO predicates a trillion dollar or more savings for the ten years after supplementation.”

Smilee’s knowledge of economic facts is as poor as his interpretation of the Constitution.

CBO estimates show a doubling of costs to the taxpayer and not even a dent in the deficit.

If ignorance is bliss, then Smilee’s a blissful person.

      • Mikey

Smilee, I don’t know how Obamacare will work in the long run, but I do know that since it was passed, my employer has had to make changes to my coverage, (probably due to anticipating the additional costs). I now have less coverage, and have to pay more out of my check to maintain it. Obamacare has already cost me more, and it hasn’t even been implemented yet.

      • eddie47d

The private healthcare industry has been shafting us for many generations. They have raised the costs by leaps and bounds for all these years and the thing about “Obamacare” is that the same uncontrollable private insurers are still in charge Mikey. The costs will go up because that is what they have done for years and what they know best. It isn’t about healthcare anymore its about feeding the stockholders and pleasing them.

      • Robert Smith

From Vigilant: “You want to talk about CONTROL of the workforce? Look to Obamacare and you need look no further.”

What are these folks supposed to do? They worked for decades in some cases, and now they won’t get what they earned: “2:38PM EST November 6. 2012 – Eastman Kodak won court approval Monday to quit providing health and welfare benefits to 56,000 U.S. retirees and dependents.”

        That’s from: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2012/11/05/kodak-retirees-lose-benefits/1684135/

        They need Obamacare.

        Rob

    • box-bb-car

The other shoe to dropp will be when Obamacare becomes fully implemented and a large percentage of employers drop thier insurance, willing to take the fine as opposed to providing insurance (it is vastly cheaper for them to do so, in our case $2k/ employee, vs $12-14k).
Then it will become the employee who will take a pay cut as they will now have to pay for that insurance (there is no guarantee that the company will compensate the employees for the loss of this benefit, indeed, I have heard from several that look at this as being able to be added to the bottom line). This will not affect the lower wage earners as much, as much of theirs will be subsidized. However those of us in the middle and upper part of the middle class will pay the full ticket.
This will result in a reduced consumer demand as there will be dramatically less disposable income. Reduced consumer demand =reduced revenues=reduced employment. But take heart, suckers, your government masters will tax the rich more (if they have not departed)

Can we have a good discussion on the role of insurance in our lives?
Like… how much would health care cost us if insurance were illegal?
        Think that one thru carefully.
How did we stay well before insurance?
How did we pay the Doc before insurance?
How did the cost of care change AFTER insurance was invented.
What did Doc’s do about poor people paying before insurance?
It seems to me the health care crisis is ACTUALLY just a BILLING problem, how can Doc get paid full for treating poor people.
If you force coverage for everyone, (even those leading a “clean” life) how is that different from communism?.
Insurance is a wealth distributing mechanism.
And think about it. Where does the money come from to pay the wages of those employed in the insurance business come from?? You. Now if insurance was illegal the cost of administering insurance would be removed from the cost of health care. And then health care costs would go down.
Can we have a discussion about insurance?
If I smoke should I pay more for insurance? I could get cancer and then everyone could help me pay for my unclean living, and I would not get the full force of my bad decisions, but I could share those costs with those who chose clean living. I could trip and fall and someone else would feel the skinned knee. And I could live “dirty” and not get the personal consequences from how I lived my life, but rather share them with clean living people. It’s OK go eat fatty foods and get overweight and someone else will pay for your treatments?.
If there is insurance them there is a BIG WAD of money that you can target, O the doctor hurt me so I want 2 million dollars. But who pays the million dollars? insurance? all the other insurance subscribers?. If there was no big wad of money then no one would try to target it with law suits.
Remove insurance and then look at everything again. Insurance has driven the cost of simple health care thru the roof.
        INSURANCE IS THE PROBLEM.

VietNam Vet I assume that you are at least 60 if there is any truth in your name. Which side did you fight for in Vietnam? Because your inability to write and spell English could either be due to the fact you are from North Vietnam or because you are an ill-educated fool. If your real name isnt Nyugen and you are just a cracker who cannot spell it would be smart not to call people a moron because it highlights how very stupid you are. Of course your belief in the veracity of the crackpot sources you quote is indicative of your stupidity even if you could write above the level of a 3rd grader. Still you probably hold that education is a liberal plot. Why is it that there is this belief amongst the right wing (= white southern male) that truly believes that being ignorant and stupid is a virtue.

This isn’t the first article I’ve read since the election about employers laying off employees as a result of the election. I read an article last week about an employer who, as a result of Obama being reelected, would have to lay people off. He started with Obama supporters.

    • Jimmy the Greek

      Good !

  • Karolyn

So many of these guys are just plain greedy – like poppa John, who says he can’t afford to charge .14 per pizza to pay for health care, so he’ll have to lay off workers – while he lives in a 40,000 sq. ft. castle with a drawbridge and golf course. Real great humans! We are all in this together. If we all worked together, what a wonderful world it would be.

    • http://yahoo jill sparks

Karolyn, It’s apparent you have never owned a business. Regardless of what this man has accomplished and owns he has a right to defend and keep it. I suppose you would like for him to sell everything he has worked for just to pay the salaries and pay for his employees insurance. Why don’t you sell everythng you have, give it to your employee so he can give you a job. That would be fair, I mean spread the wealth around…..

      • Robert Smith

Jill bleats: “Karolyn, It’s apparent you have never owned a business. ”

I have owned a business. When i hired folks I made sure that they contributed their labors to the business so the business made more. That way I got more. They also knew that if they produced more I would pay them more. If they didn’t I fired them.

        It’s that simple.

        Rob

      • Diana

Amen, Jill. The stupidity behind these comments amaze me. Envy sure is ugly, but the bottom line is this is America, the land of OPPORTUNITY. That opportunity exists for ALL -no exceptions. We all make choices in life, some choose to better themselves while others choose to live off the government. The problem is those who make poor decisions (pun intended) don’t like the consequences they face and expect to be bailed out – - – enter Barack Hussein Obama. This election was about two different value systems – success and failure.

      • Ron r

So I wonder how much he donated to the super PAC for Romney ? You think it may have amounted to the combined salaries of all impacted ? BTW , of all his employees voted for Romney and still lost their jobs then Romney is in fact a job killer. This was just a way to do more with less. The man is un-american .

    • JRD3123

I’m sure you speak from experience. Tell us about how you overcame government rules and regulations to make your business prosper while paying your taxes and healthcare for your employees, employees that made more than you. That is the story I want to hear.

      • Robert Smith

Jill asks: “Tell us about how you overcame government rules and regulations to make your business prosper ”

All I asked for was a LEVEL playing field. ALL businesses were responsible for their taxes, etc.

America doesn’t have a level playing field in the world market. Japan, England, and other car producing countries don’t have to pay for inusrance for their employees because of the much less expensive universal health care they have.

As a businessman I would be relieved if I don’t have to worry about health care for my employees. Then I would be able to concentrate on my product, NOT on that aspect of controlling employees.

        Rob

      • momo

Hey Smith, I own a business and the health care for my employees is up 10 percent, I’m so glad Obamacare is holding down costs—NOT!

    • RobinPC

I think your free Obama cell phone is ringing, better answer it and give that opinion to the person that called you on his/her free Obama cell phone. Why do people always want to penalize someone that had success in their life. I wish I had a mansion like that, I would close the draw bridge fast and let the Oboma freebie people suffer BIG time.

      • Robert Smith

Robin asks: “Why do people always want to penalize someone that had success in their life….”

If I had to pay taxes on $5,000,000 I’d feel much better than paying taxes on $50,000.

Maybe you should recalibrate your greed.

        Rob

      • eddie47d

RobinPC obviously is ignorant in how Siegel got his wealth. Although he started out helping people buying into purchasing a “second home” or a piece of the American dream it turned into an expensive proposition for millions of others. This is another case of where the Middle Class got sucked into buying into the Timeshare Industry without realizing they paid too much.Unfortunetly there are suckers born every minute and David Siegel promised them rainbows instead many eneded up with expensive albatrosses and debt.

Here is just how strong people believe and hate Obama! ~ Tell me got how normal this behavior is,

Saturday after she allegedly chased her husband around a Gilbert parking lot in an SUV during an argument over the presidential election.

The woman finally ran over her husband, leaving him with critical injuries.
According to a Gilbert police report, the argument started over her husband’s lack of voter participation in the recent election.

Holly Solomon, 28, apparently believed her family was going to face hardship as a result of President Barack Obama’s re-election.

Solomon’s husband, Daniel Solomon, told police his wife “just hated Obama” and was very angry he was re-elected and blamed the President for problems her family is going through.

Witnesses reported a lot of yelling just before Holly got into a Jeep SUV and began chasing her husband through the parking lot near Gilbert and Elliot roads.
“He got out of the car and she was screaming at him. And he started walking away and she started driving in circles around him and she wouldn’t let him go so finally he took off to try to get away and she ran into him,” a called told a 911 dispatcher.

Daniel reportedly took refuge behind a light pole while Holly drove around the pole several times while continuing to yell at him.
Police said Daniel tried to run away toward Gilbert Road as Holly pursued him in the vehicle.
She eventually struck her husband and he was pinned underneath, between the vehicle and a curb.
Daniel was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center and remains there in critical condition, according to police.

Holly was taken into custody and booked into jail for domestic violence charges of aggravated assault.
Police said there were no indications that Holly was impaired by alcohol or drugs during the incident.
According to a police report, Daniel told police his wife is six months pregnant.

Not too long ago, there was an interview posted with George McGovern, who, in retirement, had tried to open a business. He went broke. He made the comment that had he realized how onerous the regulatioins were, he never would have voted for them.

And this is one of the greatest arguements for term limits and having all laws apply equally to Congress. If our representatives had to go back to being regular citizens subject to what they have passed, they might have a different view of things. 12 years cumulative should be plenty for elected positions, and civil service positions should be limited to 20 years. For every year of service, you must abstain from business dealings with the government for a like number of years (no lobbying, no being on the board of a government supplier etc)

Karolyn, you are SO RIGHT.greed, arrogance and IGNORANCE from people who think that ,they and only they, made their business successful. I remember when i was a young businessman and thought the same way. Then somewhere along with time and experience, i grew up and realized my success, in great measure, was due to the employess and others who helped with advice, investment and labour. Some day hopefully we will change our attitude and diiscover that SUCCESS really means, much more than how much profit we make. So many people remind me of “Scrooge” and those who beleive that “Greed is Good”. Life has taught me otherwise, thankfully. Be proud of yourself Karolyn.

    • Jon

It’s easy to say that businesses can raise prices indefinitely to cover costs. Guess what– the customers go somewhere else or learn to do without. My last business may have failed anyway, with the economy the way it is. For quite a while, my employees took home more pay than I did. But when I was floundering, the Obama administration threw me in anvil instead of a life preserver. When I closed the doors, at least my employees got unemployment pay, which I didn’t. I don’t even count in the unemployment numbers the polls are so proud of. But I’m not asking for sympathy or a hand out. I gambled and lost. But I do get irritated by people like you who risk nothing yet criticize those who do.

      • Chester

Jon, having your employees take home more money than you do is one of the risks of owning and operating your own business. Have been in that boat a time or two myself, when my paid help actually had more money to spend as he pleased than I did. But, I was the one responsible for seeing to it he had a place to work, incidentally, where I could work as well, and seeing to it all the bills were paid. Again, that is one of the pains of being an entrepreneur. I have talked with people who make a living figuring things out, and each employee you hire will cost you between two and three times his or her wages, all a part of what you have to figure as your total overhead..

When that business fails due to incompetence, it’s called the risks of entrepreneurship. When that business fails due to onerous government regulation and confiscatory taxation, that’s called “criminal.”

Obamacare is clearly in the latter category.

      • Robert Smith

Vigelant claims: “When that business fails due to onerous government regulation and confiscatory taxation, that’s called “criminal.”

Really? Tell us which “onerous” rules killed the business. Were those rules any different for the dead business than those for businesses in the same field that it was competing against for sales, employees, or any other factors?

Why blame Obama for one’s own failure? Ohhhhhhhh, I get it. If they win it’s all on them, if they lose it’s Obama.

Thanks for leading me to that insight.

        Rob

What a thing to say that ‘many of these guys are greedy’. _Perhaps some are, however, the cost of running a small business is astromonical. Every employee costs much more than just what he/she earns on his paycheck.
Employers pay additional Taxes, healthcare, retirement plans, utilities, rent, materials (paper, soap, cleaning people), wages for himself, building maintenance etc. These may not be fixed dollar expenses by any means. Anyone who owns or has a business to run is aware that adding additional expenses reduces the bottom line in more than just a few cents!
Why are there all these layoffs and many more to come? Does the slogan ‘spread the wealth’ ring a bell? If you work hard for yourself and your family do you want to have it taken away from you to give to others who are not interested in working for themselves? I don’t. And, NO I am not wealthy, just proud to be responsible. Yes, there are people who need help at times, but not to make it a lifesyle of dependance, so he (Obama) can expect to re-elected by the takers and unrealistic, under informed voters.
This country was made Strong and Great by hard working people and risk takers who sacrificed much to make it. Not to have it taken away. We cannot afford Obama to run this country. It will be the end of Freedom as we know it. Quite possibly the next Great Depression is just around the corner and over 50% of voters are welcoming pain and misery with open arms! A sad obituary for a once Great Country.

and In Australia its getting so expensive for employers that the only way to retire is to go bankrupt or keep the business running until you can find another sap who thinks he can do better to take it over.

Employers have to pay PAYROLL TAX to the States, imagine that as a tax? Superannuation levey of 9% on wages going up to 12% is not a 3% increase but a 33% increase which might knock out a few more businesses or send the work to China where such taxes and levies dont exist. Workers compensation levys, maternity leave paternity leave paid for by the emplioyers ontop of 4 weeks annual leave plus holiday leave loading 17.5% and sick leave paid, public holidays paid, and a multitude of other clever payments in the building & construction industries which are now retrenching staff…300 home builders did not renew their registrations this year in the State of Victoria and building workers are already starting to get laid off by Christmas due to lack of home building jobs on their books tells the story of employers going on strike and closing down. So much for our clever politicians in our federal government who were all once union representatives and raised on bullying the employers to pay more to their workers.

Increasing wages in the private sector had the effect of increasing wages for both men and women government workers who cant lose their jobs, but private jobs are lost…with fewer people enjoying those wage increases with most jobs going overseas to cheaper producers, but the government workers dont lose their jobs or have their wages reduced…so we have less tax payers paying more each to cover the wages of useless government ‘workers’ dictators keeping their office chairs warm.

Despite the efforts of the ‘entitled’ and privileged non-workers, those who own something and worked for their success still have the right to live in a castle and lay off people instead of adding .14 to the price of a pizza. This is trickle down economics at its best. As Obama’s people say,”Elections mean something.” This best way to illustrate that is to let the people who are destroying the country and its freedoms with their votes be the first to suffer the consequesnces of their votes. It’s not the responsibility of business owners to save the people from their decisions. The Obama unemployment numbers doctored during the last four years to exclude those unemployed people who had finally given up all hope of finding work will pale in comparison to what lies ahead as a result of Obamacare. Tou got what you wanted, enjoy it.

      • Deerinwater

“This best way to illustrate that is to let the people who are destroying the country and its freedoms with their votes be the first to suffer the consequences of their votes”

And I suppose that is the way you see it happening?

Well Sir, ~ that is in deed a twisted narrow view and understanding about what has been taking place in our nation since 1983.

Wasting my time to protest your statement will be all you will ever get from me.

We American’s have bailed out Wall Street , fought two insane wars with a 7 trillion dollars price tag , killing 9,700 Coalition forces from your G Damn vote ~ !!! and you come here with that lame crap?

You come across as just a noise, greedy end of a long gut.

  • Dave

Is this how you run your business ? Legislating morals is not freedom. Filling needs
Is what creates wealth, government can only squander it.

    • Robert Smith

Hey Dave, you posted: “Filling needs Is what creates wealth, government can only squander it.”

Tell that to the “union thugs” who did all the rescuing after Sandy.

      Tell that to our military.

Tell that to all the desk jockies who labor to make sure the EARNED social security checks get out.

Tell that to your local libraian.

      Rob

      • RobinPC

Finally, a REAL Obama lover. Did you get your free cell phone yet?

      • momo

So tell us Smith how government creates wealth?

      • eddie47d

David Siegel is no more than a person who didn’t get his way and is seeking revenge. He has the money and power to do so and is continuing a long tradition of Corporate owners who seek out whipping boys.(employees). Same old snick from the robber barons who as in the past have little respect for those who work for them. Those 122 workers are his “useful idiots” and are expendable for his grander plans.

      • eddie47d

I better correct my typo (122 workers should be 22).

      • Vigilant

Eddie, please check http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/watercooler/2012/nov/8/picket-companies-plan-massive-layoffs-obamacare-be/ And those are just medical/scientific companies.

The massive layoffs planned and in the process have nothing to do with revenge. Tell me why a business owner would cut off his nose to spite his face, if he’s engaged in a profitable business with no threat of rising costs.

“Revenge?” C’mon, what sort of revenge, and against whom, do layoffs affect? How does Obama suffer?

Those business owners are not pie-in-the-sky Pollyannas when it comes to making a profit. They seek a more successful business, increased employment and a good retirement. They’re not about to unnecessarily jeopardize that by laying off workers unless they absolutely have to.

      • rb

Union people that rescued people from Sandy? Haven’t seen em. My Mother, who is 78 years old, has been working with the Red Cross in New Jersey for three weeks with no heat. Nothing but a generator to run some lights. There are 350 homeless people in the shelter she is helping to run. People like her are the ones who are really rescuing the victoms of Sandy. The Union people are doing the job they get paid to do while volunteers stay around the clock to try to help people pick up the pieces of their shattered lives! Get it right.

      • Vigilant

eddie says, “David Siegel is no more than a person who didn’t get his way and is seeking revenge.”

And how do you explain the unprecedented drops on the DJIA after both the 2008 and 2012 elections? Revenge?

      • eddie47d

Are you that naive Vigilant? The CEOs are loaded with money and their salaries went up 7-15% under Obama. Siegel is one of those CEOs and is biting the hand that fed him. His gamble is that Romney would only make him even wealthier. That is how those scoundrels operate. The drop in the DJ has little to do with how Siegel thinks.

      • Robert Smith

momo asks: “So tell us Smith how government creates wealth?”

It provides protection through the military so our businesses can operate.

It provides infrastructure like roads so business can move freely about.

It provides legal structure to minimize predatory practices.

It provides police to help with a well regulated society to minimize looting.

It provides supervision through drug laws to minimize drug usage by the population (at least in theory).

It provides most of the education of our population to offer a fine workforce for them to hire from.

its all garbage. The fact is I agree with both sides. I would not have a problem taxing the rich more if our famous elected people didn’t waste it on pet programs. The fact is the money never goes where they say its going to go the public knows this. They tell you its going to education, and infrastructure or what every the people want at that time HOWEVER it never goes there. I say where did the 6 trillion go the 1st cycle it went right to the bankers pockets some of the richest people in the world not where they said it would go.

What the poor fail to realize like it does not compute the rich provide the jobs poor people do not by choices. Rich people take risk and many poor people are happy collecting their check week to week. Many rich people do not take salaries for themselves in an effort to grow the company.

The rich pay more we as poor people pay more. The rich do not loose ever. The poor people or at least most of them do not consider the time, energy and sacrifices the company owners make sure some have had their lucky breaks but most risk everything money and family for a dream of a better life. I could not even comment how much time Mr Livingston works every day, the heart, and soul he puts into the information he provides you ask as poor person and they say tax the crap out of him. Its wrong in every since of the word I predict it will get much, much worse in the future as we continue to rack out massive amounts of debt. It is my opinion people voted for themselves and not for the future of our children. One demographic voted because they were afraid that medicare and medicaid would be destroyed, the other voted because of no deportation policy and the final group voted for all the freebies that have been offered down the pike. The two most important things Gas and Food are not even counted or manipulated to under report.

  • Howard McTaggart

This is just the tip of the iceberg as more and companies realize to stay in the black they are going to have to make cuts, as I seem to recall the main objective of his election was supposed to be the economic issue well because the main hero to liberal economics seems to be Keynes his theories of high taxes and increased spending is how the democrats think they will fix the economic issues unfortunately in the real world it does not work that way increased corperate costs mean lower revenue means something has gotta give to stay in the black, and that means the number of employees will be reduced, and unemployment is going to be a big issue, its not greed, its economic expediency, businesses need to try to survive and in order to do this there needs to be a balance of assets and expenses. Expenses get too high assets will need to be reduced. So don’t blame businesses blame Obama’s policies. You should of voted for Romney

    • eddie47d

David Siegel is worth over a billion and made his fortune in the Timeshare business. They are some of the worst lying scoundrels to ever set foot on this earth. In that business they are full of pie in the sky promises and offer you the world but once the deal is over you are screwed. There were over 10,000 consumer complaint in Florida alone last year within the Timeshare Industry. That doesn’t say too much about those who run the business (aka; scam) David Siegel made that promise over a year ago to fire some employees. So this is not an economic issue but a political issue for him. His man who he did donate to (had plenty of money for that) didn’t win so now he is out to prove a point. Can’t back down on a promise now can we? He made it clear to his employees that he will track anyone who voted for Obama and those names would be reported to him (bumper stickers, word of mouth, etc) Apparently he has undercover goons working for his fiefdom and you better tow the line or else. Seems like he and Romney use the same tactics so remember Romney’s quote “I enjoy firing people”!

  • Steve E

At least it was Hispanics that David laid off. Most of them voted for Obama anyway, so they just did it to themselves. I know many small business owners who say they will have to lay off some people. Many say they are going to lay off the Obama voters first. There is some justice in this world.

  • G Smith

Doesn’t that mean those that are still there will have to work that much more? Employers love high unemployment. It’s a supply and demand thing and they use this as an excuse to get rid of older more expensive employees in exchange for younger cheaper ones.

  • Chester

Steve, I take it you are a firm non-believer in the idea of your vote being private. For sure it seems that way, as you are bragging about how you would lay off the people who voted for Obama first. Tell me truthfully, exactly HOW do you know who voted for whom? Seems as if you are doing a lot more digging than you would like someone doing to you.

    • Steve E

It has nothing to do with the private vote. They can still vote in private. Most of the time you can tell an Obama voter, because they run their mouth. There are also other signs that a true conservative can discern from a person when he is a modern liberal or progressive.

      • Jimmy the Greek

Voting should no be secret ! the voting machine should spray a colored dot on your forehead with a ink that would not wash off for 90 days , so every one knows who voted for who , That way we would know whose house should be set on fire in the middle of the night !

      • deerinwater

Jimmy the Greek , you are a sick and twisted man with such an attitude. May you never, ever be called or confused as an American Patriot.

    • http://Google SeenItAll

Some leave their voting paraphanalia all around their work area if permitted, others still have their Obama-Biden stickers on their cars. Some have been stupid enough to proclaim their support for Obama. Now they can put their wallet where their vote is and enjoy the full implicatons of their vote.

  • Chester

G Smith, you have it exactly right. This is also the reason the employers can hire so many part time people, then schedule them no more than twenty-four hours in advance. This means that if you have one part time job and want to keep it, you can NOT have another part time job, as quite often the two of them will want you to work at close enough to the same time on the same day that one of them will be left out. When that happens, it is usually the worker who gets left out for not showing up on demand.

  • Rocco

David is a punk. The rich have got richer under Obama, as they always will. They just hate not being in control of everything. The fact of the matter is the rich need the poor and middle class as much, if not more, as we need them.Very competitive and ego driven people will create jobs, as much for power as money. And the rest of us will fill those jobs because we are not risk takers and are less driven. It is the circle of life. So enjoy the ride because the whinning and complaining about who is president and that liberals suck and conservatives bits, don’t mean a thing.

  • rb

The small business people I know have all said they will be scaling back their businesses. I know one who will be cutting all employees to less than full time in order to keep the doors open. I had been going to bring on a full time employee in 2013 but will at best bring on a 1/2 time employee. Greedy or not guys it’s the business owners who pay people to work for them. If that isn’t profitable the business owner won’t employ people at all. We tried that in Michigan for 10 years. We lost 25% of our population.

    • http://Google SeenItAll

Thanks for explaining reality to the masses. Too many peope believe they can achieve success with the election of certain politicians or the passage of mandatory legislation, all designed to provide for them. Like water, however, reality seeks its own level. If businesses are not profitable they do not hire. If they are losing money, they lay off. They are not employment agencies, they are there to earn a profit. Government created the 28 hour work week by making it unprofitable to to hire full time. They thought they would force businesses to provide full employment packages to everyone by setting a benchmark based on the number of hours worked in a week. A noble thought, but not one centered in reality. People lost income as their hours were cut back. The government lhas earned nothing over the years, except how to destroy a free economy through overregulation. Increasing unemployment is always the result.

  • steve

can’t wait to see the unemployment numbers for nov and dec. just in time for xmas. looks like obama is getting the last laugh. you need to get in line now for some of obama’s stash.

  • Jimmy the Greek

I well not be taking any fright into any state that voted blue ! And i can do it because i own the trucks , I stopped running out to California because of the [comment has been edited] regulations , and i have no problem running the south east from Texas , I don’t give a rats rear end it the blue states starve , and would not raise i finger to help them even if they were attacked by the china

    • Steve E

      Amen.

    • deerinwater

Well, I would not want to support you in any way, myself, you can run your freight into the sea as far as I’m concerned. You are not necessary and over value your importance.

This notion of entitlement and self importance is indicative of “these” extremist that are far too socially clumsy to identify with the right or left but more with just being stupid and wearing it like a badge of honor.

Texas was once Blue and she will be Blue once again, giving you reason to dismiss yourself from our beautiful state before you stink the place up.

      • Jimmy the Greek

You may be right ! With all the wet backs coming over the border and you liberals kissing there rear ends , However I well fight to the death before i learn to speak wet back .

        • Deerinwater

Well Sir, I don’t know anything about kissing a$$ but Texas has flown under 6 flags and we are a national border state where the indigenous peoples continue to habitat and thrive. This is their home, regardless of which flag is present flown or where the river is at. They are Americans and fought by my side in the jungles of Southeast Asia and I honor and respect them as individuals and their culture.

In my few years as a Mariner, longshoreman, I’ve spent more time interfacing with many cultures and race of people then most. It’s not uncommon to be in the company of a crew of seamen that speak three different languages on a single ship. I confess, it is something demanding on the mind and body not to mention your own diet of choice.

An able body seaman learns to not sweat the small stuff ~ as floating vessels are an unnatural event and mother nature is working 24/7 to pull, ship, cargo and crew down into her dark belly. We learn to depend on each other as the task at hand to too lager to do alone and I would only die trying.

Jimmy the Greek, you are a person void respect for humankind and that will be between you and God to sort out. You will receive all that you have earned before you go. I’m certain.

  • Carol Brink

Our private insurance company has notified us that they expect their costs of Obama care to increase our premium. Were we not told that those of us who already had insurance would not be affected by Obama no care insurance? I am not surprised…just disgusted in the stupid people who never cared enought to know what they were voting for. Don’t ever tell me that the people have wisdom and will do what is right. Well, they too are going to be more than surprised when they learn that Obama no care is not free.

  • A Lutz

Isn’t it just horrible that other people who can not otherwise afford healthcare will be able to, now? Doesn’t it just suck that you might have to SHARE your healthcare? Terrible. Just awful. Caring for the poor. Horrible. Making healthcare more affordable for everyone since there will be fewer uninsured Americans having their healthcare unpaid. Sinful.

    Democrats: The Party of “We”.
    Repubs: the party of “me”.

““I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional healthcare I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner”

If a company is doing well they do not lay off anyone. As long as the company has people that need their skills, shutting down is not one of the options. If this person is doing this and blaming it on Obama, he is lying.

  • Deerinwater

I think that it would be wrong to confuse David Siegel, vindictive actions and attempt to apply it to a nation full of many employers.

There were many threats , veiled and not so veiled what was promised to happen if Obama won this election.

To work for such an employer could not have been overly rewarding.

Never the less, this type of behavior will happen. ~ This is his way of making a statement. ~

I could do the same thing, ~ Make a decision that affect many and blame my actions and decision on election results.

  • deerinwater

““Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive. I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come.”
He predicted a rash of layoffs in coming months by other companies across the country as a result of Obamacare and increased taxes and regulations.”

May the Bird of Paradise fly up his nose.

  • Bob

    To all,

Just hold on a wisker here, David Seigel was interviewed after the election and stated he did not, yes, “DID NOT” lay off any employees after the election, in fact he said “I gave them all a raise.” No bull here, I know this is a hot topic, but look up the interview yourselfs it was on CNBS, perhaps someone can dig it up. Not trying to make trouble, just stating what I saw.

  • deerinwater

It’s funny, ~ I’m setting here tonight ~and it just hit me, ~ any serious need to defend our president has now came to an end. WOW! what a revelation. For 5 years it been tooth and nail. Defend, defend, counter attack ~ oblique attack, attack from the rear, bait and attack, scissor attack, fall back, reload , ambush, reload, and defend some more!

Oh!~ I’m sure issues will continue to come flowing in, there is no stopping that. But Obama will serve us 8 years and lay a foundation down on which long term economic growth might take root and we all might prosper and not just the select few.

I doubt if Obama or any future president will address the Banking System in a truly meaningful way ~ it seems the people that try ~die from unknown causes or just random violate acts by a singe person or so it is claimed. Who knows, maybe in 20 years Rand Paul will pick up his fathers banner and give it a try.

In much the same way Ronnie Reagan’s efforts rewarded and richly blessed Clinton’s tenure, so too shall it be for a future Presidential administration to be blessed by Obama’s hard work against great odds and fevered opposition. For it takes that amount of time to harvest both the rewards and penalties for a nation of our size.

But let us make no mistake, ~these are some very wealthy people walking around out there that has screwed both us and our system of government over and should be in jail today. They believe that they are untouchable and they are not done! The only thing that satisfies their greed, is only more greed, They are still out there, spinning their magic spell, bribing, influence peddling, looking for a way to steal by the train load.

As far as the GOP party goes, they have finally cooked their own goose with the American people with their victims attitude and defeatist mindset. People are tied of hearing that crap! Fear is best for controlling peasants, Americans are not peasants as hard as the GOP attempts to make as many as they possibly can.

Americans don’t want to feel like they are victims! They don’t like it! They don’t want to feel that they have been defeated. ~ When the GOP works so hard to make Americans feel that way, it just pi$$es them off, ~ it does not make them want to go vote for the people who has just pi$$ed them off.

It is not the working middle class that is attempting to line their pockets and milk the life out of our Nation, with parlor tricks, disingenuous intentions wrapped in the national flag while displaying the Holy Cross. It’s the 2% and their voting 20% lap dogs that feel more entitled then the rest of us Americans.

While it is noteworthy, that Hitler managed to wrangle himself into office with only a very noise 27% of the popular vote. ~ at 22% and declining , I’m think that maybe this forward scourge of the greedy dysfunctional’s as been stopped for now.

I’m pooped ! ~ think I’ll redirect my focus to family and my rich good fortune to be born in a nation that still respects personal freedom and honest hard work.

    Night, Deerinwater ~ out

Here is just another example of “true love” an a disgruntled Mitt Romney voter. This would be funny if it was so tragic and the power and influence “Fox News” has on simpler minds.

It would be so nice if the bitter right wing conservative loons actually cared about the country instead of their ideology. But alas… No…

We have an aging babyboomer population that uses more HC and the young people entering the workforce are not enough in number to offset the BB’s.

Are conservatives really this ignorant to reality?

    Since Obama was elected:

US Companies are making record profits
Stock Market is back over 13K
    Unemloyment is going down.

We smell what scum like David Siegal is shoveling… Not buying his BS.

  • Jeremy Leochner

It is very sad when a person with power ruins other peoples lives based on their own petty political beliefs. Obama is not doing anything to hurt businesses. Men like this are panicking and losing site of the reality. I apologize if I offend. However it is one thing to express your political beliefs and seek to affect change. Its quite another when you express your beliefs by threatening and then firing people based on your speculations of what is going to happen rather then on what has or is. And in this case this mans actions did not affect only himself, it affected his employees who had no say in the matter. The only one causing “a rash of layoffs” is Mr. Siegel.

  • ranger09

Its the general Public that pays for all this over priced junk, The Health care industry is just flat out over priced for the average American. And costs just keep on rising Its called drive a MB instead of a Cad, while the dumb bells are lucky to even have anything to drive, I was going to say chev or Ford but even the prices on them are overpriced. When was the last time you took your car or Truck into the dealership and came out with a bill under 1000.00. AND I DO NOT MEAN MAJOR WORK. wHY IN A BAD ECONOMY DOES EVERY THING PEOPLE NEED OR IS REQUIRED TO PAY, GOVT COSTS. KEEP GOING UP INSTEAD OF DOWN
