Eight Natural Ways To Battle Depression And Lift Your Mood

Each year, more than 15 million American adults suffer from depression, and its effects are not to be taken lightly. But there are eight simple things you can do to fight off the depressive blues and help restore a positive outlook.

  1. Eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables and soy products to raise your complex carbohydrate levels. This will ensure a higher level of serotonin, which is known to help lift your spirits.
  2. Eat foods like salmon and turkey. They contain high levels of protein and tryptophan, which affect your nervous system.
  3. Get out in the sun at least 10 minutes each day, but be sure to avoid overexposure.
  4. Include St. John’s wort (herb), kava kava (herb) and SAMe (amino acid supplement) in your diet regimen. They are known to help with depression.
  5. Eliminate alcohol and caffeinated drinks.
  6. Avoid eating processed foods, refined sugar or refined flour.
  7. Don’t eat foods that are high in saturated fats, like fried foods or bacon. These can make you sluggish and promote fatigue.
  8. When negative or fearful thoughts begin, start a positive and uplifting affirmation. This simple exercise can have amazing results.

    Good suggestions, except eat plenty of soy products. Soy is one of the most genetically modified crops in the world. Unfermented soy products contain compounds that are known endocrine disruptors. Avoid soy products completely unless they are organic and it is a fermented soy product.

    I agree with Matt, soy is a bad food these days. I am lactose intolerant and drank soy milk for almost 2 years before seeing a study stating that it caused hormonal and libido problems. It can cause Erictile Disfunction in some men. Before using soy I was very active in the bedroom but after 2 years of soy milk I have about 80% complete E.D. The effects have so affected me that even Viagra does little good. I now drink Almomd milk which does not have the same side effects.

    The end is near…..we got by twice….y2k and Dec 21. 2012 and now erectile dysfunction
    is staring us in the face…OHHHH woe is us….all is lost and we all are broke.NOW THE GOOD NEWS ( I just told a big fib!! ) ’nuff said..
